Would using organic potatoes from the grocery store work? Assuming we can find any.

Yes, those would absolutely work. Even "regular" potatoes will work. I've read a lot of places that they spray something on the grocery store potatoes that keep them from sprouting. But over 2 years ago I had 2 bags of potatoes that I bought at the grocery store start sprouting (one russet and 1 red). So I said what the heck, let's see what happens. So I planted them. They turned out fine. In fact I planted some of both varieties a few weeks ago that are direct descendants of those potatoes.

Read up on how to get them to sprout and how to plant them, etc. But what's the worst that could happen? ;)

Bill Gates Calls for Complete National Shutdown

Microsoft founder Bill Gates has called for a nationwide shutdown in an effort to combat the spread of the Wuhan coronavirus.

The Hill reports that Microsoft founder and billionaire philanthropist has called on a nationwide lockdown of the United States in an op-ed in the Washington Post. Gates states that he has spoken with experts through his charity who have stated that national policy would be more effective than multiple states issuing stay-at-home others while others remain open. Gates argues that the country needs a “consistent nationwide approach to shutting down.”

Gates writes in the op-ed: “Despite urging from public health experts, some states and counties haven’t shut down completely. In some states, beaches are still open; in others, restaurants still serve sit-down meals.”
“This is a recipe for disaster. Because people can travel freely across state lines, so can the virus. The country’s leaders need to be clear: Shutdown anywhere means shutdown everywhere,” he added. “Until the case numbers start to go down across America — which could take 10 weeks or more — no one can continue business as usual or relax the shutdown.”

Gates also stated that while a vaccine for the virus could be available within 18 months, “creating a vaccine is only half the battle.” Gates wrote: “We can start now by building the facilities where these vaccines will be made. Because many of the top candidates are made using unique equipment, we’ll have to build facilities for each of them, knowing that some won’t get used.”

He added: “Private companies can’t take that kind of risk, but the federal government can. It’s a great sign that the administration made deals this week with at least two companies to prepare for vaccine manufacturing. I hope more deals will follow.”

States including New York, New Jersey, and Washington have all issued stay-at-home orders while other states have issued less restrictive guidelines.

Impeachment Manager Adam Schiff Wants ‘9/11 Commission’ on Coronavirus: ‘What Went Wrong’?

Rep. Adam Schiff, D-Calif., Chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, right, accompanied by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi of Calif., left, speaks about the House impeachment inquiry into President Donald Trump at a news conference on Capitol Hill in Washington, Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2019. Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) said Monday he will introduce a bill to create a “nonpartisan commission” to study “our mistakes” on coronavirus — which spread while Schiff was leading the effort to impeach and remove the president.

As Breitbart News has noted, Democrats handed over the articles of impeachment against President Donald Trump on the very day the first coronavirus victim landed in the U.S. from China. Congress spent the next 20 days on the impeachment trial, led by Schiff as head impeachment manager and chair of the House Intelligence Committee. It was not until Trump was acquitted Feb. 5 that a House Foreign Affairs subcommittee held a hearing on coronavirus.

View: https://twitter.com/RepAdamSchiff/status/1245352023433887744

Throughout the 20 days of the impeachment trial, while Schiff and his team were preoccupied with trying to remove the president from office, Trump took several actions aimed at fighting the coronavirus.

Trump imposed his travel ban on China Jan. 31 — the day the Senate voted on witnesses in the impeachement trial.

Sen. Tom Cotton (R-AR), one of the only legislators to raise the alarm on coronavirus, told the Arkansas Gazette in January that he was breaking the rules and skipping to trial to work with the administration on the coronavirus issue.

Schiff, as chair of the House Intelligence Committee, receives briefings on threats facing the United States.

His proposed new bill would create a “9/11 Commission”-style inquiry into how the U.S. dealt with coronavirus.

Schiff broke the news of his bill with David Ignatius of the Washington Post — the same columnist who broke the news in January 2017 that incoming National Security Advisor Michael Flynn had spoken with then-Russian ambassador Sergey Kislyak. Flynn had been “unmasked” in transcripts of wiretapped telephone conversations.

Much of Ignatius’s article on Schiff’s bill focuses on Ambassador Richard Grenell, whom Ignatius accuses — citing “[c]areer officials” — of “trying to shape intelligence that might challenge or embarrass Trump” on coronavirus. Grenell, who served as U.S. ambassador to Germany, was recently named acting Director of National Intelligence.

Maybe you could tell them how to convert a stamping press and welders to making N95 masks? It’s not like retooling making fenders from the 2019 models to the 2020 models not to mention sourcing the raw materials which are totally different.

True, Hfcomms. GM has the technological ability to make damned near anything- but the production of these masks is a placebo- for workers, those in need, and the MSM. Produce quality masks, even if low rate at first- THEN ramp up production. These things, N-95 & N-100, will be needed for years... Make enough of those cloth travesties, and you can turn them into teabags, or whatever...

Very Glad You're Here! Stay Safe, Stay Well, Hfcomms...

Well, I guess the first question is, do they have the materials on hand or in the pipeline to produce n95 masks? Or the Machines to produce them? Or do they have machines which could be adapted to such use?

Do they even have the expertise on hand anymore in the US to make the machines that make the masks? I really don't know - serious question.

What about lead times? Is this going to be over in 2 months? 2 years?

See where I'm going with this?

Again, social engineering placebo in effect. Makes folks happy to see "something" done, while keeping some of the work force busy. However, how well are they protecting their work force, and by extension, their families and communities?

This too shall pass.
But beans put nitrogen into the soil. Useful when one can't buy fertilizer. One should also not grow the same crop in the same soil, hear after year.
Beans also store better long term. I can store dry beans for years . Potatoes only last till spring.

It’s also a comparison of a wet food to a dry one, but even cooked, you don’t get as much from a patch of ground with beans or grains as you do with potatoes. However....if you expect to need to garden for years, you are going to need to rotate crops. So grow half the patch in grains and legumes for dry storage, use 1/4 of the patch for potatoes, and the other quarter of the patch in the rest of your vegetables. Rotate the patches every year.

If you have a large yard, cut it in half, put a chicken coop in the middle, and run the chickens on one side while you garden on the other side. Switch sides each year. Or for a smaller yard, keep a few hens in a chicken tractor in the garden, and move them around to empty spots. They will eat bugs and weeds, and add fertilizer.

We have one existing plant pre Corona, full production for the hospitals that supported them while others chose China or Mexico.

There is short term stop gap and longer term move to local production, manufactures won’t tool up if the big hospitals and hospital distributors are planning to move back to cheaper Chinese as soon as crisis over.

The one plant in Texas expanded during the 2009 flu and all but three hospitals went back to China as soon as it was over. He almost lost the company. He said he will not do it again.

FOAF info:
CORONA ADVICE FROM A RETIRED RESPIRATORY THERAPIST: for people experiencing mild to moderate respiratory symptoms with or without a COVID19 diagnosis
Since they are calling on Respiratory therapists to help fight the Coronavirus, and I am a retired one, too old to work in a hospital setting. I'm gonna share some common sense wisdom with those that have the virus and trying to stay home. If my advice is followed as given you will improve your chances of not ending up in the hospital on a ventilator. This applies to the otherwise generally healthy population, so use discretion.
1. Only high temperatures kill a virus, so let your fever run high. Tylenol will bring your fever down allowing the virus to live longer. They are saying that ibuprofen, Advil etc will actually exacerbate the virus. Use common sense and don't let fever go over 103 or 104 if you got the guts. If it gets higher than that take your Tylenol, not ibuprofen or Advil to keep it regulated. It helps to keep the house warm and cover up with blankets so the body does not have to work so hard to generate the heat. It usually takes about 3 days of this to break the fever.
2. The body is going to dehydrate with the elevated temperature so you must rehydrate yourself regularly, whether you like it or not. Gatorade with real sugar, or Pedialyte with real sugar for kids, works well. Why the sugar? Sugar will give your body back the energy it is using up to create the fever. The electrolytes and fluid you are losing will also be replenished by the Gatorade. If you don't do this and end up in the hospital they will start an IV and give you D5W (sugar water) and Normal Saline to replenish electrolytes. Gatorade is much cheaper, pain-free, and comes in an assortment of flavors
3. You must keep your lungs moist. Best done by taking long steamy showers on a regular basis, if your wheezing or congested use a real minty toothpaste and brush your teeth while taking the steamy shower and deep breath through your mouth. This will provide some bronchial dilation and help loosen the phlegm. Force your self to cough into a wet washcloth pressed firmly over your mouth and nose, which will cause greater pressure in your lungs forcing them to expand more and break loose more of the congestion.
4. Eat healthily and regularly. Gotta keep your strength up.
5. Once the fever breaks, start moving around to get the body back in shape and blood circulating.
6. Deep breath on a regular basis, even when it hurts. If you don't it becomes easy to develop pneumonia. Pursed lip breathing really helps. That's breathing in deep and slow then exhaling through tight lips as if your blowing out a candle, blow until you have completely emptied your lungs and you will be able to breathe in an even deeper breath. This helps keep lungs expanded as well as increase your oxygen level.
7. Remember that every medication you take is merely relieving the symptoms, not making you well.
8. If you're still dying go to ER.
I've been doing these things for myself and my family for over 40 years and kept them out of the hospital, all are healthy and still living today.
Thank you all for sharing. We gotta help one another.

Sideshow crackdown during coronavirus
Oakland police cracked down on a sideshow because of the large crowd gathering

OAKLAND, Calif. - Despite the need to social distance and a statewide shelter-in-place, Oakland police said that about 450 people gathered over the weekend to watch drivers perform dangerous and illegal stunts.

Not only that, but the crowds on Sunday were big and the spectators were not practicing social distancing.

One sideshow drew dozens of observers near 55th Avenue and Foothill Boulevard, while another happened at 38th Avenue and International Boulevard, according to social-media posts and videos.

Video posted by Oakland Side Show Muscle Cars showed people, mostly young men, defying the stay-at-home order, and instead, crowding intersections, and cheering the sideshows.

In one scene, a gray car with three or four people inside, circled around the street around and around, with onlookers snapping photos, drinking beers and cheering. Smoke billowed from the burning tires.

Oakland police say they arrested three people, cited 14 others and towed 12 cars.

Those that have the ability to manufacture to these needs, must gear-up, and produce for survival- for a very, very, long period of time. The chinee are NEVER to be trusted, nor are their products to be allowed for sale in the US, or to our allies... They are a scourge that must be removed from the face of the earth... Toss in islam, and I'll be happier, and feel safer...

I'll guess half a billion cases in the wild, and about forty million dead. Those orders of magnitude, anyway.

IF I were a gambler, I'd say closer to a billion cases in the wild, with half that going to be dead by the end of the year... The disease ain't the biggest cause of death- starvation and collapse of society/civilization, will be the results from CV...

Here We Go Again: China Puts County On Lockdown After New Corona Cluster Emerges

China is no longer fixed.
Having lied for the past two months about the severity and the extent of coronavirus pandemic which its virologists started in Wuhan, eager to convey the message that the crisis "under control" just so people return to work, full of hope and enthusiasm, rejoicing at the surge in China's just as fabricated PMI numbers, and willing to work their asses off (with Beijing generously willing to risk everyone's lives as the alternative is a complete collapse in China's economy) earlier today the US finally cracked down on the relentless barrage of Chinese lies, when US intelligence accused China of deliberately lying about its coronavirus figures.
Then, in a miraculous coincidence, just moments later Reuters reported that a county in central China's Henan province announced on Wednesday it had "virtually banned all outbound movement of people, following several cases of coronavirus infection in the area."
According to a post on its social media account, Jia county - which has a population of about 600,000 - said that no one can travel out of Jia county without proper authorization. Additionally, residents are not allowed to leave their homes for work unless they have clearance to do so.

According to local media reports, on March 29, Henan Province broke its 30-day streak of reporting no new coronavirus cases, saying one person tested positive after a trip to Pingdingshan, where Jia County is located. Specifically, on Saturday, Henan province reported one confirmed case in Luohe city; local authorities said the infected person had been in contact with two doctors based in Jia county who later tested positive for the virus even though they had showed no symptoms.
As a result, Bloomberg adds that starting April 1, all residential compounds will be under "closed-off management" and all residents need to wear masks and have temperature taken entering or exiting the compounds.
And so the virus is back to China, despite the best intentions of the Chinese World Health Organization and its Beijing sponsors to make it seem that China had managed to defeat the virus.
Needless to say this is a problem, because the risk of stop-start restrictions on people’s movements mean that any calls for a V-shaped rebound in global economies and stocks can now be ignored as China will soon be forced to go through the entire shut down exercise all over again.

Indeed, as Bloomberg's Simon Flint wrote presciently overnight, "as China’s economy restarts, there is every risk infection rates to tick higher once again, requiring renewed control measures and potentially the beginning of a stop-start pattern of lockdowns followed by eased restrictions."

"Multiply that pattern by the growing number of countries in lockdown - and the unknown impact of a rampant virus in nations with fewer restrictions - and the much hoped for V-shaped recovery could quickly become a series of W’s"... and since "there is no blueprint for jump-starting a stalled economy in the midst of a global pandemic, a fresh waves of infections following production restarts could quickly snuff out any rally in global stocks."

In other words, back to square one we go, only maybe this time China will tell the truth.

Is ANYONE fighting for us, or our allies?
Does anybody have the brains and balls to stop the chinee?
If not, we'll have been betrayed, and we're doomed.

Gear-up, pack heavy, walk light, an' take shit from nobody...
The cavalry ain't comin', and YOU are responsible for your own life, and that of your family.
Always be ready to fight and kill, to protect yourself and family.
Half measures don't get you a little bit pregnant, or a little bit dead...
Survivor guilt is a fools game.
Always prepare for the worst, hope for the best, and move on...
Life always moves on- don't get left behind.

The above are just a few things to ponder, as you check your ammo, supplies, clean
and maintain your weapons and gear. Be assiduous in your tasks, as resupply may
become impossible... Repair EVERYTHING- as you don't know when, or if, you'll need it...

ALWAYS be ready for ANYTHING! Danger comes from anywhere, and it won't be what
you expect... Learn to sleep with "one eye open." Situational awareness is your absolute
priority... Anything else will get you, and others, dead...

They have pushed back our peak influx from 4/6 - 4/13 to 4/13 and on. Slowing? I dunno. Doesn't read good though.

I'm really angry with Rush Limbaugh today. Just found out the 78 year old neighbor who cuts our grass is positive and in the hospital. Super nice guy whom I've known all my life. When he cut our grass about a week ago we talked a bit and he told me he believed what Rush had to say was true. No need to worry and he and his wife were not going to stay home and be a part of this. Rush said this and that and it was all way overplayed and really the whole virus wasn't a big deal.... it was all just a way to get at Trump. All the old country folks around here listen to Rush and he is going to end up killing people if he is still downplaying this.
There's actually a thread on here talking about this. I've always liked him, but I am dismayed with how he has down-played this. He has an audience of millions who trust him. It affects me personally because a person in my household is blowing this off, in part, because of Rush. So here I am, in a high risk category, and it's a battle at my house right now. Rush has tarnished his legacy with this, as far as I am concerned.
