dozen half eggs now cost 7.00 here. Simply ridiculous
I am loving my feathered family members more every time one of you posts the current price of eggs…

On the other hand, if anybody were to post the current price of chicken layer feed (currently about $15 per 50 pound bag)… well, that is not so pleasant to think about…

But I still love my backyard collection of butt nugget layers….

Mid-South this AM --- Eggs at Aldi, $4.43 a dozen
The store was pretty much wiped out. They haven't had any multi-grain bread or store brand Lucky Charms in 5 weeks, and when you have a husband like mine who complains about everything, it matters. They didn't have any plain bagels, no bacon, and there were other empty shelves. They didn't have the variety of pizza that I wanted. I forgot some things because there were so many people just standing in the middle of the aisles.
At WM, all of the store brand cough and cold meds were gone. I had to re-stock with name brand.
They didn't have any Krusteaz corn bread mix 2 weeks ago, this time all they had was the little boxes of Jiffy.
I went to the aisle the Hot Hands were supposed to be on, and they didn't have any, but they had a big display in the front of sporting goods when I went out.
They only had 2 boxes of plain Ritz left.
Only 2 check out aisles open. A man in front of me tried 3 credit cards before he finally got the machine to take one of them.
I know it's only a week 'til Christmas but I didn't have a running vehicle last week. Glad that's over with.

As many of you already know, I frequently utilize my local food bank’s mobile food pantry events to lessen my grocery budget. The money I do not spend at the grocery store gets sent to my wife’s cancer treatment center, so they will continue to provide her with her expensive, lifesaving treatment.

Well, today was the last one I will go to this year.

I didn’t plan a big holiday dinner. It is just the two of us, so I figured I would just fix whatever the food bank gave us.

Our food bank is good to us, for which I am grateful.

But I was not expecting what they gave us, this Monday before Christmas! Talk about an early Christmas gift!

When I got home and looked into my trunk, they had loaded it with:

TWO WHOLE, FROZEN TURKEYS
Two whole, frozen hens

6 cans of mixed fruit
6 cans of mixed vegetables
6 cans of Cream of Chicken soup
6 cans of Pasta sauce

2 bags of apples
2 small bags of very small onions
6 fresh bell peppers
2 bags of fresh, seedless grapes
2 fresh, whole pineapples

4 packages of fat free sour cream

2 huge bottles of hand sanitizer
An entire case (12 bottles) of body wash

So I guess I will be making my wife a really nice Christmas dinner. I have some canned cranberry sauce already, which will go great with the turkey. I will probably make some Stove Top stuffing to go with the turkey, and a side dish of some mixed vegetables.

Who knows - if I get really industious, I might even bake a couple of apples for our dessert...

(N MN) Just got an Aldi email ad this morning - they have their Appleton Farms spiral sliced half-hams on sale for .85/lb.

I was headed in to do a Walmart pickup anyway this morning before the next hell-scape weather system hits tomorrow, so will stop and check it out. That's gonna do it before Christmas. With below zero temps, 40-50 mph winds plus 3 days of more snow - with a strong warning from the NWS and the power companies that wind and all the cement ice/snow weighing down the trees and lines is going to start another swarm of power outages.......calling it good enough and focusing on keeping the house warm and all bodies and souls neatly spliced together.

Same in middle-Tennessee. I've been using it for spaghetti, Salisbury steak, tacos, chili, etc. It's good. I must limit my red meat because of gout and usually use ground pork, but using this lets me cheat a little and get the texture and browning of ground beef. Ground pork just doesn't caramelize like beef.

It's pretty good for hamburgers. But I'm used to eating ground pork burgers, so YMMV.
in reference to your gout comment..... have you ever heard of 'tart cherry'?

Agree, eggs have really gone up recently. Wife was grumbling about picking some of the eggland's best. 1 1/2 dozen was $ 6.79 at giant locally.
We are currently supplying 6 families with eggs. Yeah 6. They get them for free as they are excess and are told as long as we have enough and a surplus they can ask and we are happy to give.

Any pissing around or grumbling and you are blacklisted.

Amazing how nice people can be if prompted.

note: wife is dropping of eggs and meyer lemons to 4 families today.....

Yeah but it actually ( with scraps ) is a net positive for us. Despite paying $14 per bag.

We are getting 77 eggs weekly and are using 1 bag per week. We know this as we now have a 35 gallon drum we fill with one bag per week.

Anyways, we are down to less than $ 0.20 per egg right now. So we are running less than $2.50 per dozen. Also to be fair, we do treats, so a better price is more like $ 4.00, but either way, it works and is cheaper than the store.

I never thought I would say that one....

Great for you! I am glad to hear that you are getting what you need.

Around here they are on the 4th food drive for people. Drive up and get a full dinner for 4 plus. Usually we have 1 or 2. A lot are hurting.

My Walmart pickup this morning went without a hitch - everything in stock, but it was mostly just "nice to have" bits and bobs for Christmas. Must admit. Aldi looked worse than I've ever seen it. Checked and they did still have butter and eggs, got my .85/lb spiral ham, and a few fresh veg and snacky type things for the storm and Christmas Eve. Still..lots of holes. Nobody would starve shopping there, but it always pays to be a nimble cook. Part of the problem might have been" last minute before a three day blizzard" thing too.

McConnell: "I'm pretty proud of the fact that with a Democratic president, Democratic House, and Democratic Senate, we were able to achieve through this Omnibus spending bill essentially all of our priorities."

The @GOP (RINOs) sold you down the river and now they are bragging about it. This, and not Trump, is why the Red Wave failed to materialize.

Wish I would've seen this earlier. Ad expires today and it's too late to go! Life is hard. :-)

I haven't hit Aldis for a while, figured when they announced their - what was it 30% increase, the cost of the time and gas to get there outweighed the savings. Might make an exception for some under a buck protein though! I've cleaned a lil bit of freezer space hoping to find something.

oh yeah. my big "savings" was finding ground beef for under 3 bucks a pound. Yup, 2.99, but no matter which maff ya use, that is under three!

Ordered a wee prime rib too, thinking I might be cajoled into a holiday spirit, since I found myself wanting to make a road trip to see Christmas lights. It was "only" 12 bucks per pound, which seemed to run a bit less than I expected. Also have a few frozen best choice turkeys here @ 99cents- but frankly, throw me in the stockade, I don't care, I'm tired o' canning turkeys right now, and I'm going to let that opportunity pass on to bless others.

Eggs run me a stubbed toe and tango with the rooster- and gf had extra to contribute for the special baking, so, I'm good there. The generic Cream cheese is a buck and a half, and butter runs bout four bucks. Decided to do my own cheese balls, crackers n snack mixes this year, as well as the petit fours n truffles, but not certain that is going to lower the price any.

We normally drink Folgers Columbian coffee, because hubby likes it. The last can I opened two days ago tastes like crap. It hardly resembles coffee. Even hubby noticed it is off (and obviously his coffee taste buds are iffy).

I can't find the receipt, but I am going to call them. The can says good until some time in 2024. I'm not drinking it, bleah.

Oh, and it was $5.99 for the smallest can.

Yeah, I've noticed the same. It's touchy to get it browned "right" without turning it into pebbles. And the texture is still some different than beef and it seems to be a lighter flavor. Grilling makes it easier to caramelize, for me anyway. But I've grown used to ground pork because I don't care for ground chicken and ground turkey smells like a sweaty locker room while cooking (my wife's words). :lkick:
Why was your wife in a sweaty locker room?
