Despite Sotamayor's Absurd Lack Of Covid-19 Knowledge, USSC Seems Skeptical Of Biden Vaccine Mandates

FRIDAY, JAN 07, 2022 - 02:47 PM

Update (1446ET): Aside from the utter lack of basic knowledge of Covid-19 exhibited by some of the USSC Justices (see below), the court seemed skeptical of the Biden administration's claim that it has the authority to force vaccine mandates on over 84 million private sector employees.

"OSHA’s sweeping regulatory dictate," will "irreparably injure the very businesses that Americans have counted on to widely distribute COVID-19 vaccines and protective equipment to save lives—and to keep them fed, clothed, and sustained during this now two-year-long pandemic," argued the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) vs. the Department of Labor, in the Court's first hearing.

The mandate will "convert hundreds of thousands of businesses into de facto public health agencies for two-thirds of America’s private employees," the continued.'

In the second case, Biden v. Missouri, the federal government is attempting to lift lower court stays which have blocked the enforcement of a Nov. 4, 2021 emergency regulation from the Department of Health and Human Services, the Epoch Times reports.

Overreach?
Via Matthew Vadum via The Epoch Times
uring oral arguments on the private sector mandate, Chief Justice John Roberts said the federal government appears to be overreaching.

The executive branch is attempting to “cover the waterfront” by imposing COVID-19 policies on the population at large instead of leaving the matter to Congress, Roberts said.

“This has been referred to … as a workaround,” he said. “This is something that the federal government hasn’t done before.”

This pandemic “sounds like the sort of thing that states will be responding to or should be and Congress should be responding to or should be, rather than agency by agency the federal government and the executive branch acting alone,” the chief justice said.

Justice Neil Gorsuch said health regulations normally fall to the states.

“If there is an ambiguity, why isn’t this a major question that therefore belongs to the people’s representatives in the states and in the halls of Congress?” he said.

NFIB attorney Scott A. Keller said OSHA’s “economy-wide, one-size-fits-all mandate covering 84 million Americans is not a necessary and indispensable use of OSHA’s extraordinary emergency power which this court has recognized is narrowly circumscribed.”

Keller noted that three days ago the U.S. Postal Service told OSHA that the mandate requirements “are so burdensome for employers that the federal government is now seeking an exemption from its own mandate for the Postal Service.”

“That’s because OSHA’s economy-wide mandate would cause permanent worker displacement rippling through our national economy, which is already experiencing labor shortages and fragile supply lines. OSHA has never before mandated vaccines or widespread testing,” he said.

OSHA, “a single federal agency tasked with occupational standards, cannot commandeer businesses economy-wide,” Keller said.

Justice Elena Kagan said federal agencies have expertise in disease management and suggested OSHA has the authority to make the mandate because “this is a pandemic in which nearly a million people have died.”

“It is by far the greatest public health danger that this country has faced in the last century. More and more people are dying every day; more and more people are getting sick every day,” she said.

Keller said he did not contest “that COVID is a grave danger … but the agency has to consider and explain alternatives.” OSHA, instead “jumped immediately to a vaccine or testing mandate.”

The second hearing, dealing with the health care worker mandate, was underway at press time.

Update (1143ET): The Supreme Court, which is hearing arguments over vaccine mandates, displayed a stunning lack of knowledge of basic Covid-19 facts during today's oral arguments.

The worst offender - Justice Sotamayor - who not only claimed that there are "100,000 children in serious condition," with many on ventilators (there are 3,342 per HHS with many or most being incidental covid positives alongside other conditions), but that Omicron is as deadly as Delta.
This is just absolutely astonishing. "100,000 children in serious condition," per Sotomayor. Where do these people obtain their misinformation? The current national pediatric COVID census per HHS is 3,342. Many/most incidental.

Sotomayor claims simultaneously that the vaccine is necessary prevent severe illness (and does so) but that unvaccinated pose risk to other unvaccinated and vaccinated. No logical consistency here.

The "wise Latina" also posited: "Why is a human spewing a virus not like a machine spewing sparks?"
"Why is a human spewing a virus not like a machine spewing sparks?" Sotomayor is...um. Wow.

The country would have been lost forever if Hillary had had 4 years to appoint judges. https://t.co/DrwHZdJAbx

Meanwhile:
This stunningly ignorant amicus brief, filed by medical organizations in favor of the OSHA vax mandate, is the end of the credibility of public health. Is it really possible that scientists in those organizations are so unaware of the underlying science about which they write? https://t.co/KmGs3HWEFQ

So the fate of one of the most medically authoritarian schemes in US history is now in the hands of people who have no clue how this virus behaves.

The Supreme Court on Friday is scheduled to hear at least two hours of arguments beginning at 10 a.m. EST after GOP state officials and business groups filed requests to block President Joe Biden's vaccine mandate for employers who have more than 100 workers, as well as a similar requirement for healthcare facilities.

Listen live here.
Justice Sonia Sotomayor has chosen to participate in the arguments from her chambers, and two arguing attorneys, the solicitors general of Ohio and Louisiana, will also participate remotely by telephone, a court spokeswoman said.
The justices spent most of the pandemic working remotely but returned to in-person arguments in October. All nine are fully vaccinated, the court said. The court remains closed to the public due to the pandemic. -Reuters
The plaintiffs have argued that the Biden administration exceeded its authority by imposing requirements that were never authorized by Congress, and that it f ailed to follow the proper administrative rules for issuing emergency regulations.

Of note - and possible relevance to the argument; in July, Biden explicitly stated that people who take the vaccine will not get COVID-19, a statement we know (and knew at the time) was false.

Under one of the Biden policies, OSHA required that businesses employing more than 100 employees need to require vaccinations or weekly testing - which would apply to more than 80 million workers nationwide.

Taking the lead in trying to block the mandate is the state of Ohio and the National Federation of Independent Business. Meanwhile, several religious groups, including the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, have filed similar cases.

The second policy under consideration by the Supreme Court requires that approximately 10.3 million workers across 76,000 healthcare facilities receive the vaccine.

Watch: McDonald's Kiosk Denies Man Service Over Vaccine Status

FRIDAY, JAN 07, 2022 - 09:40 PM
Highly vaccinated and "boosted" Israel was among the world's first countries to impose a vaccine passport requirement on its population, which the government calls a 'Green Pass'. And yet the pandemic has continued there unabated, and all that average citizens are left with is immensely curtailed freedoms.

As a glaring case in point, Israelis apparently can't even order a Big Mac from an automatic kiosk at McDonald's unless their Green Pass status is up to date.

Most recently, this means a citizen has to have not just been double-jabbed, but they have to have received the booster. This also as Israel has approved a second booster for the immunocompromised and elderly. Watch the absurdity unfold:

View: https://twitter.com/i/status/1478154099463897089
.49 min

"Mcdonald’s appears to be the first food provider in Israel to deny customers who do not have proof of vaccination," one local news source comments on the disturbing video.

"Activist Shlomo Walfish went to the McDonald’s in Bet Shemesh to try to order food," the report descsribed. "The computer that takes orders then denied him service after selecting that he does not have a green passport."

With the green pass system, other public venues like bars, gyms, and theaters are denying people access; however, this could be a first example of a machine literally being programed to halt service to unvaccinated people - or at least those without proper vaccine "credentials".

And we are being told this is all in the name of public "health" and "safety"... No Covid passport = no food.

Supplies Still Limited More Than A Year After Monoclonal Antibodies Authorized For Treating COVID-19

FRIDAY, JAN 07, 2022 - 06:40 PM
Authored by Meiling Lee via The Epoch Times (emphasis ours),

Despite being the only authorized outpatient medical therapy for preventing the worsening of COVID-19 symptoms in high-risk patients, there remains no steady supply of monoclonal antibodies from the federal government a year after its approval for use by medical regulators.

Dr. Aldo Calvo, Medical Director of Family Medicine at Broward Health, shows a Regeneron monoclonal antibody infusion bag during a news conference at the Hospital in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., on Aug. 19, 2021. (Joe Cavaretta/South Florida Sun-Sentinel via AP)

Rolled out in the same month as the COVID-19 vaccines, monoclonal antibody therapies have not gotten the attention that vaccine treatments have after they were billed as the thing to get America out of the pandemic.

Even today, President Joe Biden continues to mostly focus on vaccinating children, providing boosters to every adult, and increase testing as part of his “new actions” to combat the COVID-19 pandemic during the winter.

Dr. Marc Siegel, a practicing internist and a professor of medicine at NYU’s Langone Medical Center, says vaccines alone cannot bring America out of the pandemic. More breakthrough cases are occurring with the Delta and Omicron variants, and hospitalizations are rising this winter.

More than 206 million Americans are fully vaccinated and 72 million people have received a booster dose as of Jan. 5. Individuals are considered fully vaccinated if they received two doses of the messenger RNA vaccines or a single shot of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine.

Siegel said that the Biden administration has not been able to deliver any therapeutics for early treatment of people with mild or moderate COVID-19 because of the administration’s “obsessive focus on the vaccines to the exclusion of all else.”

When it comes to therapeutics, the Biden team’s results are even more anemic,” Siegel wrote in an op-ed in USA Today. “Paxlovid, Pfizer’s new protease inhibitor wonder drug, has been approved but is scarce.”

“Ditto monoclonal antibodies, the synthetic neutralizing antibodies that have been so helpful in patients at high risk of complications or hospitalizations.

Omicron is most susceptible to sotrovimab, made by GlaxoSmithKline, but in most states, it is almost impossible to find,” he added.

The Epoch Times has reached out to the Biden administration for comment.

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has delivered over 197,000 courses of the monoclonal antibody treatments to state and territorial health departments, and to federal entities for the week of Jan. 3. This comes after the agency briefly paused distribution of the treatments on Dec. 23.

Lack of Public Messaging

The monoclonal antibody therapies have been shown to be effective in preventing severe disease or hospitalization in high-risk patients with mild to moderate COVID-19. They are different from the convalescent plasma from a recovered COVID-19 patient, in that monoclonal antibodies are “created [in a lab] to specifically target an essential part of the infectious process,” according to physicians from the University of Michigan Health System.

As of Dec. 16, 2021, the National Institutes of Health does not recommend convalescent plasma for treating hospitalized patients without impaired humoral immunity.

The first monoclonal antibody treatments were issued emergency use authorization (EUA) in November 2020, but there seemed to be little interest in utilizing the therapy when the focus was on the campaign to vaccinate every person aged 16 and older by federal and state governments.

The lack of messaging around monoclonal antibody treatments from federal authorities resulted in people being unaware of the short timeframe to receive these effective therapies (within 10 days of experiencing the first symptoms) and some hospitals refusing to use them. This led to low demand for the monoclonal antibodies at a time when it should have been utilized to help alleviate strain on hospitals, as the United States was reporting over 100,000 people hospitalized for or with COVID-19 by the end of December 2020.

A screenshot of the hospitalization rate on Dec. 31, 2020. (Our World in Data/The Epoch Times)

Dr. Peter McCullough, an internist, cardiologist, and epidemiologist, said in an interview with EpochTV’s “American Thought Leaders” program that he was “shocked with the lack of fanfare on the monoclonal antibodies, there was almost no uptake.”

He added, “We heard reports that over 80 percent of the supply was sitting on the shelves. Nursing homes weren’t informed, urgent cares weren’t supplied, hospitals weren’t in supply. There wasn’t any messaging.”

The Epoch Times reached out to the CDC for comment about the lack of messaging around the COVID-19 therapeutics and was told to contact the FDA, who did not reply by press time.

Due to the low uptake, the HHS allowed authorized health care providers to order the therapies directly from the supplier from February 2021 to Sept. 13, 2021. But the emergence of the Delta variant and waning vaccine effectiveness saw increased demand for the therapies, leading the HHS to announce it would revert back to taking control of distribution.

The number of monoclonal antibodies allocated to each state and territory would be based on the case numbers, hospitalizations, and utilizations, a distribution system that is still being used today.

In the Sept. 13 announcement, the HHS claimed that the Delta variant caused a surge in monoclonal antibody therapy uses, “particularly in areas of the country with low vaccination rates,” without further clarification.

Looking at the statistics from the HHS itself and comparing the vaccination rate and monoclonal antibodies distributed to the 12 most populated states did not always show a correlation between a low vaccination rate with more uptake of the therapies.

Screenshot of monoclonal antibody therapy allocations for the 12 most populated states (The Epoch Times)

The emergence of the Omicron variant further added to the confusion on whether certain antibody therapies should continue to be used and if they would still be effective clinically, particularly when the HHS halted the allocation of the therapies two days before Christmas.

HHS issued a notice on Dec. 23 that it would halt distribution of the REGEN-COV and Eli Lilly antibody therapies, based on in-vitro or “test-tube” studies—which have yet to be independently peer-reviewed—which found the antibody treatments may not be as effective against the Omicron variant, leaving GlakoSmithKline’s sotrovimab as the only available treatment.

The Epoch Times has reached out to both the drug manufacturers for comment.

Eli Lily didn’t respond and Regeneron directed us to their Dec. 16 press release (pdf), which states, “While Regeneron’s currently authorized REGEN-COV antibodies have diminished potency against Omicron, they are active against Delta, which currently is the most prevalent variant in the U.S.”

The company said it is awaiting approval for a clinical trial of its “next generation” monoclonal antibodies that would be active against the Omicron variant and all variants of concerns.

Efficacy With Omicron?
Florida’s State Surgeon General Dr. Joseph A. Lapado says that the findings of one study conducted in a lab don’t necessarily conclude the same outcome in humans.

So the laboratory evidence was indicating the affinity of the antibodies, such as the Regeneron antibodies for the Omicron variant were diminished … but that’s not the same thing as concluding that the Regeneron monoclonal antibodies will not work in a patient with Omicron,” Lapado said at a press conference on Jan. 3.

He added, “So, there’s a difference between laboratory data and clinical data. And they made the decision to withhold medication based on laboratory data, but we care about clinical outcomes. The decisions should be based, obviously, on clinical data, which is why they’ve reversed [the pause].”

HHS then lifted the pause eight days later on Dec. 31, allowing all states and territories to continue ordering the treatments, citing that “the prevalence of COVID-19 variants remain dynamic.” The decision was also “in light of recent National Institutes of Health (NIH) clinical guidelines published on Dec. 30, 2021, and the significant variability in the prevalence of the Omicron Variant of Concern (VOC),” it added.

The NIH is recommending a three-day course of intravenous remdesivir as a treatment option for nonhospitalized patients with mild to moderate COVID-19 who are at high risk of severe illness when Omicron is more than 80 percent prevalent in a region.

The recommendation was based on the PINETREE trial, which found an 87 percent relative reduction in the risk of hospitalizations and deaths compared to the placebo group. However, there was not a significant difference in the safety profile of both groups as “adverse events occurred in 42.3 [percent] of the patients in the remdesivir group and in 46.3 [percent] of those in the placebo group.”

Remdesivir is approved by the FDA for patients requiring hospitalization. Experts recommend physicians perform “close kidney monitoring when prescribing remdesivir” and be aware that the drug may cause kidney disorders. In addition, the NIH says that every patient should be given a liver function test and a prothrombin time test (to measure the length of time it takes blood to clot) prior to receiving remdesivir.

TSA Checkpoints Close Amid COVID Outbreak, Adding To Travel Woes

FRIDAY, JAN 07, 2022 - 05:40 PM

Besides airline crews calling out sick and inclement weather canceling nearly 20,000 flights since Christmas Eve, travelers now have to contend with the closure of security checkpoints at airports.

Traveling by air has been an absolute nightmare this past holiday season. It could worsen as staffing issues tied to the COVID-19 pandemic resulted in two Transportation Security Administration (TSA) checkpoint closures at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport.

"Beginning at 4 a.m. Jan, 7, the B & D Security Checkpoints in Terminal 4 will be closed. A & C will remain open. Wait times for non-PreCheck passengers could be up to 30 minutes & passengers should plan their arrivals accordingly," Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport tweeted.

1641619917442.png

The temporary closure of the security checkpoints should increase wait times for travelers entering the airport.

"We are monitoring this closely, and this situation only seems to affect Phoenix Sky Harbor for now," R. Carter Langston, TSA spokesman, said in a statement.
"Communities and transportation systems have been hard hit by increasing COVID infections, and we continue to encourage those who are ill to stay home and get tested. Compliance with the federal face mask requirement, social distancing, and checkpoint modifications remain in place for those who choose to travel," Langston added.
At the moment, 3,300 employees or about 5% of TSA staff have been infected by the virus. It appears Phoenix Sky Harbor is the only US airport so far that has closed security checkpoints due to staffing issues. Are more closures imminent?

Pentagon Further Tightens COVID Restrictions After Secretary Austin Tests Positive

FRIDAY, JAN 07, 2022 - 03:43 PM
Authored by Jack Phillips via The Epoch Times,

The Department of Defense (DOD) on Friday tightened its COVID-19 restrictions in the midst of a rise in cases nationwide and days after Secretary Lloyd Austin tested positive for the virus.

Starting Jan. 10 at 5:00 a.m., the Pentagon will reduce its occupancy limit to 25 percent or fewer, while social distancing will stay at six feet. Personnel, including fully vaccinated people, will have to wear a mask indoors unless alone in an office, eating or drinking, or in several other circumstances, according to two memorandums issued by the DOD.

In a memo to staff (pdf), Deputy Defense Secretary Kathleen Hicks told all supervisors to use the maximum number of telework opportunities as well as flexible scheduling.
“It is my intent for you to comply with this limit to the fullest extent possible,” Hicks wrote in the directive.
“We are experiencing a rapidly evolving situation and your carefully considered requests for exception from the occupancy rate may be granted by the [Director of Administration and Management of the U.S. Department of Defense] but must be limited to mission-critical activities and must explain why alternatives to a higher occupancy rate are insufficient.”
DOD staff members’ “continued diligence and adherence to occupancy limits will aid in reducing the surge of new cases,” Hicks claimed.

For the past several months, the Pentagon operated under a directive that allows 40 percent of personnel to work in the building while the rest teleworked.
“Significant upward trends, the rise in positive case counts, including the current spread of the Omicron variant, as well as the consideration that the majority of our workforce is fully vaccinated, weighed heavily in the decision to adjust safety plans,” Michael Donley, the Director of Administration and Management, in a memo to senior Pentagon leadership, wrote in a separate memo (pdf).
While data has suggested that Omicron can easily spread, data and studies have shown it appears to cause fewer deaths and hospitalizations than previously dominant variants. Studies have also suggested that the strain can easily infect fully vaccinated and boosted individuals.

An official with the World Health Organization, citing studies, said earlier this week that because Omicron primarily infects the upper respiratory tract, it’s less likely to cause severe pneumonia.

And the latest directive will allow the DOD to “maintain force health protection measures mitigating the spread of COVID-19 in our own communities, among our military personnel, DOD civilian employees, and on-site contractor workforce,” Donley also wrote.

Earlier this week, Austin confirmed that he tested positive for COVID-19, caused by the CCP (Chinese Communist Party) virus. Austin, who is fully vaccinated and received a booster dose in October 2021, said he has mild symptoms.

Citi To Fire All Unvaxx'd Unless They Comply With Mandate By Jan 14

FRIDAY, JAN 07, 2022 - 02:40 PM

Citigroup has just become the first Wall Street megabank to give the anti-vaxxers among its 70K employees an ultimatum: either get vaccinated (and turn over the appropriate proper documentation), or find somewhere else to work.

As Wall Street banks struggle to find a strategy to bring workers back to the office without putting them at risk of getting COVID, the bank has decided that Citi employees who don't comply with this mandate by Jan. 14 will be placed on unpaid leave, and their last day of employment will come at the end of the month, according to a message to Citigroup staff seen by Bloomberg.

This is by far the most restrictive requirement among Wall Street firms. But whether or not it will help the financial services industry bring workers back to the office more quickly remains to be seen.

On top of this, Citi is holding bonus payments over workers' heads, saying that any employees who refuse the vaccine also won't receive bonus payments for 2021 unless they sign a legal document giving up their right to sue Citigroup, presumably for wrongful termination since the legality of employer vaccine mandates is still being chewed over by SCOTUS.

Workers who are forced out by the vaccination policy can apply for other jobs at Citi in the future, but they shouldn't bother if they don't "see the light" and get vaccinated.
"You are welcome to apply for other roles at Citi in the future as long as you are compliant with Citi’s vaccination policy," the company said in the memo.
According to Bloomberg, more than 90% of Citigroup’s staffers in the US have already been vaccinated. Any workers who haven't gotten their shots are welcome to apply for religious or medical exemptions. Although it's not clear what those applying for an exemption will do during the period between the start of the vaccine mandate, and whenever Citi finishes analyzing all the applications for an exemption.

Unsurprisingly, Citi is already facing public backlash for its decision to push out anti-vaxxers. One Twitter user questioned if Citi would take responsibility for any vaccine-induced medical issues (like the 'almost harmless' inflammation of the heart that has been associated with mRNA vaccines and younger users).

And what's next? Will Citibank extend this mandate to its vaccinated customers?
will @Citibank be requiring all US employees to also obtain the 4th booster shot? Is @Citibank taking liability for any and all potential adverse events (alebit very rare)? Will @Citibank also be expanding this vaccine mandate to its customers and those with citi credit cards?
— cryptobacool (@cryptobacool) January 7, 2022
One Citi worker complained on LinkedIn that this policy feels like a huge "overreach" since most of his direct reports don't work in the same state as him.
"I’ve been sitting at home for two years now, I rarely go to the office, my direct reports are states away -- this felt like a huge overreach," said George Pagano, who spent five years in Citigroup’s operations and technology division before departing in November due to the mandate.
"When it comes to promoting the company at the expense of having to threaten to fire people the week after Christmas, it just seemed to be a bit too much."
Finally, Citi is imposing its mandate as constitutionality of vaccine mandates is still debatable. As one source told Bloomberg, most companies are waiting to see how SCOTUS rules.
"It’s extremely onerous for employers," Paul said, noting challenges in obtaining tests and tracking the data.
"Because of these burdens, there are a lot of employers that are just waiting to see what the Supreme Court does before they go ahead and roll out their plans."
While Citi's office workers must adhere to the Jan. 14 deadline, workers in the company's office branches will have a little more leeway. To try and make the mandate more palatable, Citi has taken measures including bringing in medical experts to educate staff, holding town halls with human-resources leaders and handing out prizes for vaccinated workers. It also offered paid time off for workers hoping to get the shot.

Earlier this week, Goldman Sachs became the latest Wall Street megabank to abandon its plans to return employees to its offices.

Citi has already faced legal challenges over its vaccine mandate, which it first announced back in November after President Biden called on corporations to coerce their workers into getting the jabs. Of course, the rate of vaccination will differ dramatically by state, as many workers in New York are already facing pressure from the government to get the vaccines, while workers in Florida and Texas have been afforded much more leniency.

Unfortunately, the world has learned over the last year that the vaccines aren't nearly as effective as Pfizer and Moderna (and President Biden) originally led the public to believe. So hopefully whoever came up with this idea at Citi isn't disappointed when it has no impact on the number of workers afflicted by virus.

South African Researchers Say Omicron Might Mark The End Of COVID Pandemic

FRIDAY, JAN 07, 2022 - 02:01 PM

In late November, as the early details of the South African variant emerged (more transmissible, and "extremely mild"), we noted that this "could be a blessing in disguise as it pushes out the much more dangerous (and more stable) delta strain," and could mark the beginning of the end of the global fearmongering over a virus that over 99% of the infected are expected to survive.

And now, a team of researchers from South Africa confirmed Friday that omicron might mark the end of the COVID pandemic (before SARS-CoV-2 simply becomes another endemic, largely seasonal sickness), shrouding the present global surge in a patina of optimism.

To wit, a study of patients infected with COVID at a large hospital in Pretoria, the city where the first outbreak of the omicron variant was recorded, revealed a short-lived wave that moved with "unprecedented speed" and caused much milder illness than earlier strains.
“If this pattern continues and is repeated globally, we are likely to see a complete decoupling of case and death rates,” the researchers said.
And for the sickest patients, the study showed that just 4.5% of patients hospitalized with COVID died during the current wave compared with 21% in earlier waves, according to a statement on the website of the South African Medical Research Council. What's more, this time around, fewer people were admitted to hospital ICUs, and hospital stays were "significantly shorter." Initially, the rate of admissions climbed rapidly, but it began to decline within 33 days of the first omicron admission analyzed. A snapshot of patients in the hospital on Dec. 14 and 15 showed that almost two-thirds of those infected with COVID had been admitted for other reasons (raising further questions about how many of the deaths they reported should really be considered "COVID deaths".

Ultimately, the study at Biko analyzed records of 466 patients from the current wave and 3,976 from previous waves of the pandemic. It also found the following, according to Bloomberg:
  • Hospital stays averaged 4 days compared with 8.8 in previous waves
  • The mean age of those admitted was 39 compared with almost 50 in earlier waves
  • Admissions to intensive-care units dropped to 1% of patients from 4.3%
  • Admissions peaked at 108 compared with 213 during the delta wave
Now that cases are plunging in South Africa, the researchers were able to confirm that the omicron wave had "a lower admission per case ratio, lower death rate and lower rates of admission to the ICU compared to previous waves."

The researchers at the Steve Biko Academic Hospital in Pretoria said this behavior could be a sign that the pandemic is coming to an end.
That suggests “omicron may be a harbinger of the end of the epidemic phase of the Covid pandemic, ushering in its endemic phase.”
Think about it. All these people who are sick right now (it seems like practically the entire world has fallen ill with COVID over the past month, whether they had been vaccinated or not) will emerge with more antibodies and more natural protection that humans have needed to build in order to protect themselves from the virus long term.

Just take a look at COVID cases vs. deaths in the US; while the number of people sickened and calling out of work has created congestion across the economy (and forced hospitals in some states to turn to the National Guard for assistance), far fewer people are dying due to omicron, which is believed to be the variant behind nearly all of the new cases being diagnosed in the US, and elsewhere.

Airline stocks in the US are now headed for their best week since November thanks to the newfound optimism.

Data from South Africa, the first country to report the arrival of omicron, is being closely watched by the rest of the world for any insights into how the omicron wave might pan out. As we noted a week ago, South Africa dialed back its COVID restrictions after new cases cratered.

All of this supports what the WHO and its leader, Dr. Tedros Adhanom, said about booster shots. While President Biden and the CDC open the door to second booster jabs (the CDC just cut the recommended time between shots to 5 months from 6), the WHO has warned against it, saying shots should first go to the developing world, and that no country could "boost" its way out of the pandemic.

Although if the South Africa data is any guide, pretty soon they won't have to.

Mayo Clinic Fires 700 Unvaccinated Employees Weeks After Nurses' Warning

FRIDAY, JAN 07, 2022 - 01:01 PM
Authored by Jack Phillips via The Epoch Times (emphasis ours),

The Mayo Clinic in Minnesota fired 700 unvaccinated health care workers on Tuesday, despite nurses at the clinic issuing a warning several weeks ago about staffing issues.
“While Mayo Clinic is saddened to lose valuable employees, we need to take all steps necessary to keep our patients, workforce, visitors, and communities safe,” the Mayo Clinic said in a statement Tuesday in confirming the mass firings.
“If individuals released from employment choose to get vaccinated at a later date, the opportunity exists for them to apply and return to Mayo Clinic for future job openings.”

Health care workers are seen in a recent file photo. (Ariana Drehsler/AFP via Getty Images)

The employees had until Monday to get the COVID-19 vaccine. Officials said the 700 workers who were terminated represent approximately 1 percent of the Mayo Clinic’s 70,000 employees.

“While final numbers are still not available, nearly 99 percent of staff across all Mayo Clinic locations have complied with the required vaccination program, meaning they have been vaccinated or have received medical or religious exemptions,” said the Clinic in its statement.

Outside of Minnesota, the Mayo Clinic operates hospitals in Wisconsin, Arizona, Florida, and Iowa. The Mayo Clinic is the largest employer in Minnesota.

“Based on science and data, it’s clear that vaccination keeps people out of the hospital and saves lives. That’s true for everyone in our communities—and it’s especially true for the many patients with serious or complex diseases who seek care at Mayo Clinic each day,” added the Mayo Clinic, without noting that studies and data suggest the COVID-19 Omicron variant appears to easily infect fully vaccinated individuals.

Some longtime Mayo Clinic employees who were fired for not receiving the vaccine told Twincities.com that they wouldn’t comment on the firings because they fear “community retaliation against either themselves or their families.”

Several months ago, President Joe Biden announced that health care facilities that receive Medicaid and Medicare funding would have to impose a vaccine mandate for all their employees or risk losing federal funding. About a week ago, the Centers for Medicaid & Medicare Services reversed its policy and announced it would begin enforcing the vaccine mandate in about half of all U.S. states, including Minnesota.

The agency, in a memorandum, said it modified the compliance dates for its mandates, meaning that facilities that apply have to comply with the mandate’s first phase. All health care staff needs to have obtained the first dose of the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine, or the single-shot Johnson & Johnson vaccine by Jan. 27, 2022—or 30 days after the CMS memorandum was issued.

In mid-December, nurses represented by the Minnesota Nurses Association held a press conference to call on hospital CEOs to address staffing concerns.

“To our patients, I want to say this: Nurses will be here when you need us,” Mary C. Turner, union president and a COVID-19 intensive care unit nurse, said at the news conference on Dec. 20. “To our hospital CEOs and elected officials, please hear us: Nurses need more than words, we need action to address the crisis of staffing and retention in Minnesota hospitals.”

Top epidemiologist Harvey Risch blasts Fauci's COVID strategy, CDC data and research

"Dr. Fauci has interests that do not align with the public health interests of the United States," epidemiologist Harvey Risch says.
Updated: January 7, 2022 - 11:22pm

President Biden can claim that COVID-19 remains a "pandemic of the unvaccinated" partly because "the CDC has played fast and loose with a lot of studies and data," Yale School of Public Health epidemiologist Harvey Risch says.

"We have not been careful or objective with our data," he told the John Solomon Reports podcast Friday. "We don't even know, for example, the mortality from COVID," which the CDC pegs at more than 800,000.

Risch noted the agency told physicians to put COVID on death certificates regardless of whether they think the infection played a role. Hospitalizations have also conflated admissions "with" and "from" COVID, he said.

As a member of a committee advising Connecticut early in the pandemic, Risch urged ignoring case counts and focusing on hospitalizations and deaths. That advice was largely ignored until the current "sky-high" yet mild Omicron variant wave, but now "finally people are waking up to say that the cases don't matter," he said.

The U.K. is among countries that more carefully track COVID, according to Risch. Its data show vaccinated adults constitute the majority of cases, "and it's not a hospitalization of the unvaccinated" either.

While vaccines are a "potential and reasonable component" of COVID mitigation, those developed are "somewhat ineffective" and their large-scale deployment has driven an unexpected number of "mutant strains" extending the pandemic and causing higher mortality, Risch said.

President Biden's chief medical advisor Anthony Fauci, longtime director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, not only isn't trained in public health but "has interests that do not align with the public health interests of the United States," Risch argued.

Fauci's opposition to generic anti-pneumonia drug Bactrim during the AIDS pandemic "led to the deaths of 17,000 people in New York City," Risch alleged.

Instead, he recalled, Fauci favored AZT, "a terrible medication that required a treatment against the treatment" but "made large amounts of financial profits" for the drugmaker, "and he's done the same thing ever since."

"He's been canonized" as a public health guru "because of his political abilities, but not because of expertise," Risch claimed.

The "original sin" of the pandemic is suppressing early outpatient treatment. The U.S. should have "released the strategic national stockpile of hydroxychloroquine" and promoted ivermectin and other inexpensive drugs that are used in combination to take out the "evasive beasts" early in viral infection, he said.

These treatments have been discredited through "fake studies" intended to "distort the playing field" toward expensive patent medications and vaccines, he said.

Among the problems: randomized controlled trials with such a small number of "events" in treatment and control arms that they "could easily happen by chance"; studying healthcare workers who are "too healthy" for treatment to matter; and studying hospitalized patients rather than early outpatient treatment.

"And then you have people like Dr. Fauci and the major media saying, 'See, here's the proof that hydroxychloroquine doesn't work'" based on studies in settings where it's not intended as treatment, Risch said. The FDA's website prominently warns against hydroxychloroquine usage in outpatients, with a "small text" disclaimer citing study of hospitalized patients.

"It has no systematic data about hydroxychloroquine use in outpatients because it blocked that usage in March of 2020. "This is a fraud" that has "biased the entire world" against a drug with a better 50-year safety profile than Tylenol or aspirin, Risch said.

The "high-priced" outpatient treatments that did get federal approval are much worse: Molnupiravir is a "dangerous drug," and Paxlovid is prone to "interactions with other common medications," Risch charged. (Molnupiravir, for example, has been blocked from India's COVID treatment protocol for safety issues.)

Federal regulators, medical journals and many doctors have been captured by the pharmaceutical industry, which started with "freebies" in the 1970s and is now holding the purse strings for much research, Risch said.

The FDA's budget is heavily reliant on these "clients," and the CDC designs research to reach a predetermined conclusion that it then publishes in its "non-peer reviewed Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report," he said. "It looks like science, but it's not science."

Supreme Court justices make puzzling claims about COVID stats in challenges to vaccine mandates

Justice Sotomayor wildly overstates child hospitalizations with COVID. Justice Breyer claim about unvaccinated hospitalizations appears to be pre-Omicron.

Updated: January 7, 2022 - 11:09pm

President Biden's assertion that COVID-19 remains a "pandemic of the unvaccinated" may be challenged by ongoing global research, but not by certain members of the U.S. Supreme Court.

In oral arguments Friday, liberal justices made questionable and unchallenged factual assertions to defend the Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA) vaccine-or-test mandate for large employers and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) healthcare worker vaccine mandate.

The National Federation of Independent Businesses and Ohio are seeking a halt to the Jan. 10 enforcement deadline given by OSHA, while Missouri and Louisiana want the high court to keep in place injunctions against CMS by trial courts.

Justice Sonia Sotomayor repeatedly denied the OSHA mandate was a "mandate" because of the test option, but her claim that 100,000 children were in "serious condition" with COVID — more than the total number hospitalized since August — drew particular bafflement.

Observers noted the current federal child hospitalization count is 3,342.

American Commitment CEO Phil Kerpen tweeted that many or most were "incidental" to their hospitalization, echoing a distinction recently made by Dr. Anthony Fauci and CDC Director Rochelle Walensky.

Justice Stephen Breyer at one point claimed 750 million people tested positive for COVID Thursday, misstating his repeated claim that 750,000 tested positive.

The daily average Thursday was about 611,000.

Breyer also claimed 99% of hospitalized patients were unvaccinated, possibly referring to figures from January-August 2021, before the Omicron variant wave hit the fully vaccinated.

OSHA's emergency temporary standard (ETS) for employers with more than 100 employees is focused on "a different pandemic" — the Delta variant wave of last summer, attorney Scott Keller argued for the National Federation of Independent Businesses.

He's vaccinated and boosted, but "vaccines do not appear to be very effective in stopping transmissions" in the Omicron wave, Keller said.

Even some federal entities want out of the mandate, he added, citing exemptions sought by the U.S. Postal Service and Amtrak.

OSHA itself estimates 1-3% of workers will quit rather than get vaccinated or get tested weekly and wear masks.

"We all know what the best policy is," Justice Elena Kagan told Keller in defense of OSHA. "The best way to prevent spread is to get vaccinated," and the second best is to wear masks. Why then, the lawyer retorted, didn't OSHA didn't mandate vaccinations for healthcare workers in its June ETS?

Sotomayor insisted that humans were no different than machinery for the purpose of OSHA's authority. Using the example of a machine that shoots off sparks, she asked "why is a human not like a machine if it's spewing virus?"

Conservative justices alluded to White House Chief of Staff Ron Klain admitting the OSHA mandate was a "workaround" for President Biden's lack of authority to mandate private sector vaccinations.

Chief Justice John Roberts asked Solicitor General Elizabeth Prelogar why the mandates should be "particularized" to OSHA and CMS. It looks like the government is trying to "work across the waterfront, and it's just going agency by agency" with vaccine mandates.

Justice Samuel Alito suggested the OSHA mandate was like "squeez[ing] an elephant into a mouse hole." Alluding to adverse event reports following COVID vaccination, Alito asked if OSHA has previously approved safety regulations that impose "extra risk" to some groups.

The feds are relying on the 50-year-old Occupational Safety and Health Act to justify a mandate for 80 million employees to mitigate round-the-clock infection risks, when "Congress has had a year" to specifically grant OSHA that authority, Justice Neil Gorsuch said.

That law specifically grants OSHA authority to protect employees from "grave danger" caused by "physically hazardous agents" and it mentions immunizations, Prelogar responded: Unvaccinated workers both cause and are at highest risk of that grave danger.

She told a skeptical Gorsuch that OSHA didn't mandate vaccines for influenza because it's "seasonal" and not anywhere near the same risk as COVID, or for polio because "virtually all workers are vaccinated" against it already.

The right-left split was less apparent in the CMS healthcare worker mandate challenged by Missouri and Louisiana, given that it involves conditions on federal money and standing issues.

Roberts and Sotomayor each noted the states agreed to let the Department of Health and Human Services impose health and safety requirements for patients in return for the money. Alito wasn't sure the funding conditions clearly conveyed that workers might be subject to a vaccine requirement.

Justice Brett Kavanaugh asked whether the states had standing given that the regulation applies to facilities accepting CMS funds, who did not challenge it.

Kagan returned to her argument from the OSHA case that mandating vaccinations might actually prompt the return of workers who left their workplaces for fear of COVID. Missouri Deputy Solicitor General Jesus Osete had warned that rural states could suffer even worse shortages of healthcare workers if some quit rather than get vaccinated.

Biden bends to DeSantis, sends additional monoclonal antibody treatments to Florida

Florida governor has demanded Biden administration “get out of the way” of Florida’s efforts to provide early treatment.
By Bethany Blankley
Updated: January 7, 2022 - 9:24pm

The Biden administration is delivering an additional 30,000 monoclonal antibody (mAbs) doses to Florida. And another 15,000 doses of Regeneron have been secured for Floridians to support new monoclonal antibody sites, Gov. Ron DeSantis announced.

DeSantis has demanded that the Biden administration “get out of the way” of Florida’s efforts to provide early treatment for the coronavirus and release more monoclonal antibody drugs to Florida.

When discussing coronavirus efforts with other governors on Monday, President Joe Biden said, "My message to the governors is simple. If you need something, say something. We're going to have your back any way we can.”

On the same day, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services said Florida’s mAbs allocation for the week was nearly 2,000 doses less than its allocation last week, and nearly 10,000 doses less than New York’s.

Florida had requested at least 30,000 doses per week more than it had been allocated by the administration to support new mAbs sites in Duval, Collier, Miami-Dade, Broward, Palm Beach, and Seminole counties.

On Tuesday, HHS notified the state’s Department of Health that logistical preparation to send 30,000 additional doses was under way.

“After pressure from Florida, the federal government has begun planning to send 30,000 additional doses to our state, so we can stand up new sites and expand capacity at existing sites,” DeSantis said. “We expect the Biden Administration to follow through so Floridians will have access to these life-saving treatments.”

The announcements come after the governor, Florida’s Surgeon General and GOP congressional delegation called on the Biden administration to change its approach to allocating and delivering mAbs.

In late December, Florida Surgeon General Joseph Ladapo accused the administration of “actively preventing the effective distribution of monoclonal antibody treatments in the U.S.” after the HHS and the FDA announced Regeneron and Eli Lilly mAbs wouldn’t be available to states beginning Jan. 3, 2022.

“The sudden suspension of multiple monoclonal antibody therapy treatments from distribution to Florida removes a health care provider’s ability to decide the best treatment options for their patients in this state,” Ladapo wrote in a letter to HHS Secretary Xavier Becerra Dec. 28. “This shortsightedness is especially evident given that the federal government effectively prohibited states from purchasing these monoclonal antibodies and serving their populations directly.”

Florida’s GOP congressional delegation argued the “administration’s mAbs distribution policy continues to be shortsighted and burdensome on states and healthcare providers.”

On Dec. 31, HHS announced it was withholding mAbs by controlling their allocation and the amount a state or healthcare provider could receive, as well as prohibiting states from ordering them directly from drug manufacturers, a move criticized by DeSantis, Ladapo and others.

Because the Biden administration “decided to take full control of the supply of monoclonals, then dramatically cut Florida’s supply,” Florida began purchasing mAbs directly from the pharmaceutical company GlaxoSmithKline, the governor’s office said, “but the Biden Administration took control of this treatment as well.”

In response to his letter, Ladapo says the administration reversed its decision and is allowing states to continue to order mAbs through the allocation system.

“However, Florida needs at least 30,000 more doses per week than it is receiving through the allocation system to expand capacity at existing monoclonal antibody treatment sites and open new sites to treat 250-300 patients per day at each site,” he said.

“Prior to the federal government takeover of the monoclonal market, Florida successfully distributed approximately 30,000 doses per week when we managed our own supply,” DeSantis said. “After failing to ‘shut down the virus,’ the Biden Administration has come to the realization that there is not a federal solution to COVID-19, and releasing the federal stranglehold on these effective treatments is a good first step.”

David Corn: COVID Deaths Are Basically Deaths of Choice by the Unvaccinated

PAM KEY7 Jan 2022466

Video 2:50 min

Mother Jones Washington bureau chief David Corn said Friday on MSNBC’s “The Beat” that the COVID-19 deaths of the unvaccinated were deaths of choice.

Corn said, “We’re not all the way there, but it is a tremendous accomplishment with the economy and everybody else, not just Joe Biden, that we got a long way back. Labor market got tight, good news people who are working because some wages are going up, and some people able to quit jobs in order to find better jobs. So all in all, I think the economic picture is not fantastic, but it’s much better than it was a year ago. And you could say the same thing about COVID. We still have a problem with COVID, but far fewer deaths, and the deaths are basically deaths almost of choice, people who are unvaccinated.”

Melber said, “Wow.”

Corn continued, “If you’re vaccinated, you know, you’re much less of a risk today.

Schools are largely open in most places. Businesses are largely open, there are some more restrictions that we don’t know what’s going to happen in the next two months, but by and large, we’re in a much better place than a year ago. You know, I have some sympathy for Joe Biden in the White House because I don’t think they’re getting a lot of credit, part of a larger narrative especially up against the Trump bizarre cult, Fox and others saying that we’re basically going off the cliff right now.”

Poll: Vaccinated and Boosted Americans Are Most Concerned About Coronavirus

Americans who have gotten vaccinated and boosted against coronavirus are the most “personally concerned about the coronavirus threat,” according to a Rasmussen poll released on Friday.

The report states:
Interestingly, being vaccinated against COVID-19 doesn’t relieve concerns about the disease – in fact, the opposite appears to be true. Vaccinated Americans are more concerned about the coronavirus threat than the unvaccinated, and those who have gotten COVID-19 vaccine booster shots are most concerned.
Among unvaccinated Americans, only 36 percent are concerned about coronavirus, including 13 percent who are very concerned. Vaccinated respondents are much more wary, with 75 percent saying they are worried about coronavirus, including 41 percent who are very concerned.

Eighty-one percent of those who have gotten the booster say they are still concerned about the coronavirus threat, “including 48 percent who are very concerned.” The survey was conducted with 1,000 American adults on January 2-3 during an ongoing spike in omicron variant cases nationwide.

Overall, 64 percent of respondents say they are “personally concerned about the coronavirus threat,” including 33 percent who are “very concerned.” In contrast, 33 percent are not worried, including 12 percent who are “not at all concerned about COVID-19.”

Unsurprisingly, more Democrats (52 percent) than Republicans (22 percent) and unaffiliated voters (26 percent) are “very concerned” about the virus. Democrats are also more likely to be vaccinated and to have received a booster shot.

The poll, which has a margin of sampling error is +/- 3 percentage points with a 95 percent level of confidence, found that 74 percent of Americans say they are already vaccinated and two-thirds of those say they have received booster shots.

Overall, 49 percent of U.S. adults say they are both vaccinated and boosted, while 22 percent say they have not gotten the jab.

Despite higher total vaccination rates, another poll found that most Americans support a bill in Congress aimed at blocking President Joe Biden’s vaccine mandate for American workers. Roughly 51 percent said they support the bill, followed by 40.6 percent who said they do not and 8.3 percent who remain unsure. The percentage that supports the bill rises to 55.8 percent when the “unsure” option is removed.

Brnovich: If Vax Mandate Stands, We’ll Never Get that Power Back from Feds, They Could Have Diet Rules Next

On Friday’s broadcast of the Fox News Channel’s “America’s Newsroom,” Arizona Attorney General Mark Brnovich (R) said that the Biden administration’s logic in defending the vaccine mandate is that they “can literally threaten every single person’s livelihood in this country if they don’t kowtow to the dictates of the federal government.” Brnovich also said that under the guise of health, “are they going to tell contractors their employees can’t eat Chicago deep dish pizza, are they going to tell you how much caffeine or soda you can drink every morning?”

Brnovich said, “As we as citizens, as we as representatives of our respective states cede this authority to the federal government, you will never get it back. And under the logic of the Biden administration, they can literally threaten every single person’s livelihood in this country if they don’t kowtow to the dictates of the federal government. And so, what’s next in the future, under the guise of health care, are they going to tell contractors their employees can’t eat Chicago deep dish pizza, are they going to tell you how much caffeine or soda you can drink every morning? I mean, so this is really, truly a dangerous precedent, this notion that the federal government, under ‘public health and safety’ is going to essentially dictate to every single American that they must do something or lose their livelihood, lose their benefits, lose their life savings.”

America’s Frontline Doctors File Brief in the Supreme Court Case to be Heard Today on Biden’s COVID-19 Vaccine Mandate for Health Care Workers at Facilities Receiving Federal Funding

By Joe Hoft
Published January 7, 2022 at 8:00am
Americas-Frontline-Doctors-1.jpg

America’s Frontline Doctors (AFLDS) filed a brief for a case going before the Supreme Court today. The Supreme Court will hear oral arguments on the Biden administration’s COVID-19 vaccine mandate for health care workers at facilities that receive federal funding.'

From the AFLDS:
As you are likely aware, the medical consensus on the COVID-19 “vaccine” effectiveness is that they do not prevent the spread of SARS-CoV-2. As you also may know, AFLDS recently filed a brief with the Supreme Court noting that these injections are merely a personal treatment choice, and not a public health measure at all. With over 50 other citations, AFLDS’ brief breaks new legal ground.

We want to remind you that the SCOTUS has scheduled one hour of oral argument on the OSHA mandate tomorrow, Friday, January 7, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. EST. A second hour of oral argument on the CMS mandate for healthcare workers will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. EST.
The following is in their brief:
It is the consensus of the medical community that the currently available Covid-19 vaccine injections do not prevent the spread of SARS-CoV-2. Relevant federal agencies have repeatedly acknowledged this consensus. Therefore, there is no scientific or legal justification for OSHA to segregate injected and un-injected people. Indeed, since the Covid-19 injections do not confer immunity upon the recipients, but are claimed to merely reduce the symptoms of the disease, they do not fall within the long-established definition of a vaccine at all. They are instead treatments and must be analyzed as such under the law.

Even if OSHA possessed the statutory and constitutional authority to issue the ETS now challenged before the Court, which it does not, the substantive due process clause of the Fifth Amendment would require the federal government to establish that the OSHA ETS is narrowly tailored to meet a compelling state interest. This is a standard it cannot meet.

STUDY: Covid Vaccine Can Alter Menstrual Cycle

By Cristina Laila
Published January 7, 2022 at 1:10pm
towfiqu-barbhuiya-cOH3j5lQDYo-unsplash-1-scaled.jpg

This is totally normal.

Last April researchers began investigating the link between COVID and menstruation after THOUSANDS of women reported changes to their cycle after getting the coronavirus vaccine.

Women who received the Covid vaccine reported to have spotting in between their cycle, shortened cycles and lengthened cycles.

However, anyone who spoke about a link between Covid vaccines and menstrual problems/fertility issues was labeled a “conspiracy theorist.”

According to a new study published in the journal Obstetrics & Gynecology, many women vaccinated against Covid saw a change in their menstrual cycle.

CONCLUSION:
“Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) vaccination is associated with a small change in cycle length but not menses length.”

The New York Post reported:
Following reports from scores of women online who said that the COVID vaccine had altered their menstrual cycles, a government-funded study has ultimately confirmed their claims.

Now, a new study published Thursday in the journal Obstetrics & Gynecology has revealed that many of those vaccinated against COVID-19 saw a slight delay — by less than one day, on average — in the onset of their menstrual periods, compared to unvaccinated women.

However, it did not substantially affect the number of bleeding days, according to findings from more than 4,000 participants.

About 2,400 participants were vaccinated with either the Pfizer (55%), Moderna (35%) or Johnson & Johnson (7%) vaccines. The remaining 1,500 women were unvaccinated and included in the study as a control group.

The average increase in women’s cycles after the first vaccine dose was 0.64-day (about 15.36 hours), and 0.79-day (about 18.96 hours) following the second dose.

Will The Covid Generation Forgive Us For Allowing State-Mandated Child Abuse?

By Jim Hoft
Published January 7, 2022 at 3:47pm
Screen-Shot-2022-01-07-at-12.58.53-AM.jpg
Guest post by Tom Malone

“There can be no keener revelation of a society’s soul than the way it treats its children.” – Nelson Mandela

Is that headline too harsh?

Given the systematic abuse of children under the pretext of “protecting them from Covid” — using measures predominantly initiated and enforced by Democrats in blue states and cities — I don’t think so.

For two years, children have been terrorized with fear, isolated from their friends, denied an education, forced to wear useless and dehumanizing masks, and denied their athletic and artistic pursuits. They were taught to view everyone around them as a deadly bio-hazard and warned that if they didn’t go along with all the rules they might kill Grandma. They were even denied in-person treatment for mental health and social support services.

Older children and young adults have seen their social lives as well as their dreams and careers go up in smoke. Colleges have been turned into prisons, where they force young people to take dangerous, experimental injections for entry, and then turn around and put them in solitary confinement for “catching Covid,” even though the vast majority have no symptoms and their fellow students have been vaccinated. Hey, what can you expect for $60,000 per year?

All for a respiratory virus that is less of a threat to them than the common flu.

None of this was done “for the children.” It was done partially as a cynical power grab by the political left (“never let a good crisis go to waste”), and partially to assuage the irrational fears of hysterical adults who are caught up in a mass hysteria of historic proportions. The disgusting phrase we keep hearing from some that “children are resilient,” is nothing more than a rationalization used by uncaring adults who are not very resilient themselves.

In a recent segment on Face The Nation, CBS News reporter Jan Crawford correctly stated that the impact of Covid policies on children was the most under-reported story of the year:
But I mean, even teenagers, you know, a healthy teenager has a one in a million chance of getting, and dying from COVID, which is way lower than, you know, dying in a car wreck on a road trip. But they have suffered and sacrificed the most, especially kids and underrepresented at risk communities.

And now we have the Surgeon General saying there’s a mental health crisis among our kids. The risk of suicide — suicide attempts among girls now up 51% this year, black kids nearly twice as likely as white kids to die by suicide.

I mean, school closures, lockdowns, cancellation of sports. You couldn’t even go on a playground in the D.C. area without cops scurrying . . . shooing the kids off.

A tremendous negative impact on kids, and it’s been an afterthought.

You know, it’s hurt their dreams, their future learning loss, risk of abuse, their mental health. And now, with our knowledge, our vaccines.

If our policies don’t reflect a more measured and reasonable approach for our children, they will be paying for our generation’s decisions, the rest of their lives. And that, to me, is the greatest underreported story of the past year.
The latest outrage is the edict from the new Mayor of New York, Eric Adams, requiring children to wear N95 masks to attend school. Apparently, he’s decided that merely abusing children by forcing them to wear any old cloth mask is not enough — now they need to be tortured by being forced to wear extremely uncomfortable and suffocating N95 masks.

And now, as the “safe and effective” vaccine narrative blows up like the Hindenburg — and the number of people killed and injured from these shots becomes too enormous for all but the most dishonest to ignore — Democrats are still pushing to inject our kids. Why are they hell-bent on injecting children with a dangerous, experimental treatment that has zero medical benefit and does not even prevent them from spreading the virus if they catch it?

In some cities, most notably NYC, “New Normal” segregationists are even mandating that children take the experimental shot or they can’t eat in a restaurant — and they’re hauling out 5-year-old offenders!

Screen-Shot-2022-01-07-at-12.55.03-AM.jpg

Incredibly, in the FDA hearing on approving the vaccines for 5 – 12 year olds, panel member Dr. Eric Rubin said: “We’re never gonna learn about how safe the vaccine is until we start giving it. That’s just the way it goes.”

This is how callous and cavalier they are with our children’s lives.

This past week, without even citing clinical trials, the FDA approved the use of “boosters” in children aged 12 and older. In other words, they are just winging it.

This is nothing short of unlawful medical experimentation on children — children who cannot possibly provide informed consent.

None of this makes any sense and we have already seen far too many vaccine-related deaths among children and young adults.

What’s the real reason they are going after children with these shots?

We have a pretty good idea why the pharmaceutical companies want to enroll children into this experiment. As RFK Jr. explains in the clip below, unless the vaccines get placed on the childhood vaccination schedule, the vaccine makers will lose their legal immunity from liability.

As evil as that is, that seems to be why big pharma and their puppet, Tony Fauci, are pushing for this. But why would any sane politician, public health official, teacher, or medical professional go along with it if they cared about children?

Are they really that caught up in the delusional mass formation?

The tragedy is, too many parents blindly obey these “authorities” and will follow their lead. I can only imagine the level of regret that many of them will feel when they finally snap out of their trance and realize what they’ve done.

Will their children forgive them?

For the sake of all the children and young people all over the world who have suffered too much for too long due to these unscientific and abusive measures, I hope we all snap out of it soon and then hold the perpetrators to account.

In the meantime, we need to get our children out of schools, cities, and states that are enforcing these cruel and irrational mandates.

Children’s lives matter.

State-Sponsored Racism: FDA Guidelines Instruct Healthcare Providers to Prioritize Racial Minorities Over Whites For Access to Scarce Covid Treatments

By Julian Conradson
Published January 7, 2022 at 9:46pm
FDA.jpg

In several states like New York, Minnesota, Utah, and even Texas, non-white citizens are receiving priority for scarce monoclonal antibody treatments and Covid oral antiviral pills, regardless of their age or underlying conditions, thanks to Marxist health-equity policies that have been implemented by the local governments.

This ‘rationing based on race’ policy has sparked intense backlash against the states which have implemented them, but the idea did not start within local health departments – the destructive scheme actually came directly from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), according to the agency’s own documents.

The FDA’s emergency use authorizations for monoclonal antibodies and oral antivirals specify that the treatments have only been authorized for “high risk” patients. The agency included guidelines on what factors would qualify a patient to receive the therapeutics, and unsurprisingly, one of the main determinations was their race.

Even though the FDA’s guidelines are nonbinding and unenforceable, they have been used by the local state governments as justification for implementing the racist policy.

Racism – FDA approved – because, it’s for your health.

From The Washington Free Beacon:
The FDA “fact sheet” for Sotrovimab, the only monoclonal antibody effective against the Omicron variant, states that ‘race or ethnicity’ can ‘place individual patients at high risk for progression to severe COVID-19.’

The fact sheet for Paxlovid, Pfizer’s new antiviral pill, uses the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s definition of ‘high risk, which states that ‘systemic health and social inequities’ have put minorities ‘at increased risk of getting sick and dying from COVID-19.’

The guidance sheets are nonbinding and do not require clinicians to racially allocate the drugs. But states have nonetheless relied on them to justify race-based triage.

“The FDA has acknowledged that in addition to certain underlying health conditions, race and ethnicity ‘may also place individual patients at high risk for progression to severe COVID-19,’ Minnesota’s plan reads. ‘FDA’s acknowledgment means that race and ethnicity alone, apart from other underlying health conditions, may be considered in determining eligibility for [monoclonal antibodies].'”
How is this even legal in America?

The FDA declined to comment on either state’s plan, saying only that “there are no limitations on the authorizations that would restrict their use in individuals based on race,” according to The Washington Free Beacon.

Almost TWO FULL YEARS since ‘fifteen days to slow the spread,’ America still has not been allowed to put this manufactured pandemic in the rearview mirror.

Despite promising that he would ‘shut down the virus instead of ‘shutting down the country,’ Biden and his completely incompetent regime have overseen more deaths than there were in 2020, new lockdowns, tyrannical mandates, and several new ‘variants’ that have restarted the proverbial pandemic clock for the public health regime.

Keep in mind, this is all with a vaccine that has been available throughout Biden’s entire fraudulent presidency.

The shortage of treatments, which is being driven by the FDA’s refusal to approve effective drugs like Ivermectin for use on Covid-19, has been compounded by Biden’s bonehead decision to cut off the procurement of several treatments like monoclonal antibodies.

Because of the limited availability of Covid treatments, the Federal government has been rationing the supply as it distributes to the individual states, which has caused some areas to experience major shortages, especially as the highly transmissible, yet common-cold-like Omicron variant continues to spread.

You would think that after two full years, we as a nation – one that landed a man on the moon from concept to completion in less than 10 years (and that was before the pocket calculator had been invented) – would have this mild flu-like virus somewhat under control by now, but thanks to the Brandon Administration, there aren’t even enough early treatment drugs to go around.

So naturally, the woke Marxists are rationing potentially life-saving treatments based on skin color.

How far we have fallen.

Government Deception: Up to 3.8 Million 'Fully Vaccinated' Austrians To Be Declared 'Unvaccinated'

Amy Mek
January 8, 2022

1_Tzf1DmKl8LbsIjmlPcV8eA-1200x630.png

How do the previously “vaccinated” feel about being declared anti-social, right-wing radicals by their government with the stroke of a pen?

On Thursday, January 6, 2021, the Austrian government announced its new plans to force citizens into receiving more than two mRNA injections that are deceptively labeled as “vaccines.” The unelected Chancellor Karl Nehammer has reduced the “Green Passports” validity to six months. As a result, millions of citizens who were considered “fully vaccinated” six months ago are now classified as “unvaccinated” by the government. The only way to get the document reissued for those who have lost their Green Pass is to receive a booster injection.

Despite the “vaccine” and “boosters” not protecting people from Covid and increasing the chances of infection from Omicron, the controversial Chancellor’s new measures will ban those presumed to be “unvaccinated” from social life.

For example, only “vaccinated” people or those who have recovered within the last six months can visit restaurants, hotels, shops and access community centers and sports halls. Furthermore, the Chancellor is mandating citizens to wear N95 Masks in most outdoor locations, as well as a tightening of restrictions against unvaccinated, unrecovered individuals in retail settings.

This announcement follows the breaking news that the “fully vaccinated” and “boosted” Chancellor Karl Nehammer has tested positive for Covid. Ironically, he met his government’s current definition of “fully vaccinated” when he became infected.

Fines and Jail for the ‘Unvaccinated’
Starting February 1, 2022, Austria will become the first European country to mandate citizens to be “fully vaccinated.” Unvaccinated people, including children as young as 14-years-old, can be fined up to 2000 euros each time they are caught out in public without the proper vaccine documentation. In addition, the government can ticket the same individuals several times a day. As reported previously at RAIR Foundation USA, If you refuse to pay your fine, offenders will be thrown in a special prison for unvaccinated people for up to one year.

In response to the government’s freedom crushing restrictions and mandates, tens of thousands of Austrians have taken to the streets to protest. In addition, Austrians have been begging for people worldwide to shine a spotlight on their government’s mistreatment of them.

Militarized Police State
Austria’s newly unelected Chancellor, Karl Nehammer, is the former chief of police and has implemented police state-like measures in recent months. The leader continues to implement measures and appoint leaders to “battle” Covid, which many call “tyrannical and totalitarian.”

On December 23, 2021, the Chancellor announced the appointment of Major General Rudolf Striedinger to co-lead a new office for the “nationwide Covid crisis coordination” (GECKO). The new GECKO task force is supposed to support the government in the fight against “Omikron.”

The General appeared dressed for battle in his military uniform at the announcement. The appointment of Major General and his new task force comes shortly before the country’s vaccine mandate law will take effect.

In January, the General caused an uproar when he fought to regulate soldiers’ public expression of opinion. As a result of his actions, a decree was formulated to restrict the soldier’s freedom of expression and prohibit any criticism of the federal government.

The General argued that soldiers were making inappropriate appearances on the internet. For example, a female soldier spread Covid theories online that were not in lockstep with the state’s narrative.

Citizens Were Sold a Pack of Lies
Around 3.8 million Austrians were considered “fully vaccinated six months ago.”

They trusted Austria’s former ÖVP (Austrian People’s Party) Chancellor, Sebastian Kurz, and the Greens that if they received double injections, Covid would be over.

Those who received the jabs believed they would have done their part to contain the virus, and soon everything would be back to normal.

Sadly, the “vaccinated” were sold multiple lies. Six months later, nothing is back to normal or fine. Now their new ÖVP Chancellor Nehammer has declared all of these people to be unvaccinated.

These newly classified “unvaccinated” people who thought they were doing their civic duty are now, according to their government, endangering others, possibly even right-wing extremists or worse.

How do the previously “vaccinated” feel about being declared anti-social, right-wing radicals by their government with the stroke of a pen?

Austrians seem to be faced with three options: force their unelected government to abdicate, refuse to get jabbed and go to prison, or take the third, fourth, fifth, sixth, etc., until the government hands down new mandates.

No Surprise, Everyone is Getting COVID-19

by Dr. Peter McCullough | Jan 7, 2022 | Healthcare, Politics,
covid.png

It should come as no surprise that in large numbers, it seems almost everyone is contracting COVID-19, the Omicron variant. The US CDC anticipates this new strain to account for 93% or more of the current cases. Fortunately, infection with this strain produces a considerably less severe illness than the prior variants, particularly the Delta strain.

Those naturally immune and vaccinated can expect a mild and brief illness characterized by nasal congestion, runny nose, fever, and viral malaise. The unvaccinated and COVID-19 naive may have slightly more pronounced symptoms. Low rates of hospitalization and death are expected, particularly with early treatment. Most patients now get through the illness with simple over-the-counter measures and without the need for prescription medications or monoclonal antibodies.

By now, everyone should know the most effective initial treatment to handle the rapidly replicating Omicron virus in the nasal cavity is nasal and oral rinses with viricidal solutions. For severe cases in seniors or those with many background medications, the monoclonal antibody to seek is sotrivimab from GSK. This product was designed to be more effective against mutant strains.

The lead agents are dilute povidone-iodine (1:10 dilution from a 10% povidone-iodine bottled product) or dilute hydrogen peroxide (1:3 dilution from standard off the shelf bottle). These solutions must be sniffed back in a good quantity to the back of the throat and then spit out and done twice in each nostril up to every four hours when sick. The remainder of the solution can be gargled and then spit out. None should be swallowed.

At the two-year mark in the pandemic, no one in the world should be surprised or scrambling for supplies the day they come home with a positive COVID-19 test result.

On this week’s program, we have “Nurse Rona” Michelle, who has developed a broad following on social media and in local practice where she has helped so many with early home management of COVID-19, particularly our seniors, where the intensity and duration of symptoms are reduced, and by that mechanism, the risks of hospitalization and death are lowered.

We also have the return of our music segment where listeners send in suggested music reflecting the issues of the day. This week we have contributions by Matt Brevner and guitarist legend Eric Clapton with his most recent release “Heart of a Child.”

New data shows 51% of patients in NYC hospitalized *with* Covid not *for* Covid

New York has finally released hospital data that breaks out hospitalizations *with* Covid vs. those *from* Covid, finding 57% of cases statewide are “admitted due to Covid or complications from Covid”:

  • The Data That Unravels OSHA’s Justification Of The Vax Mandate

The Supreme Court heard oral arguments over Biden's nationwide vaccine mandate. There's data that was widely ignored that should invalidate the entire argument of the need for forcing people to get The Jab.

The Supreme Court heard oral arguments over Biden's nationwide vaccine mandate. There's data that was widely ignored that should invalidate the entire argument of the need for forcing people to get The Jab.

The oral arguments over Joe Biden’s nationwide Covid-19 vaccine mandate took place before the Supreme Court today. The result of this case is over whether a business of at least 100 people will be forced to mandate The Jab for all of their employees.

The argumentation from the attorney’s representing OSHA (The Biden Regime) is that this is an unprecedented pandemic and the only viable way out is to get everyone vaccinated. In regards to the workplace, OSHA is attempting to claim that their concern is for the unvaccinated… essentially they are protecting the unvaccinated by forcing them to become vaccinated. Because that makes perfect since… right?

I would like to point out several facts and data points that should completely obliterate the claims made by OSHA’s attorneys.

First of all, the claim was repeatedly made that this is an unprecedented pandemic which is causing death at much higher rates than virtually anything we’ve faced to-date. Fortunately for us, that’s been refuted many times over.

Let’s forget the fact that countless number of deaths occurred because of a lack of early treatment. Let’s also forget that many people died of other causes, but also tested positive for Covid, which results in a Covid death.

Forgetting those glaring data discrepancies, let’s take a look at the current fatality rate. According to a report by the United Kingdom Health Department, Omicron has a fatality rate of approximately 0.15%. That’s 100 times lower than the fatality rate of the Delta Variant. For comparison, the flu has a fatality rate of 0.15%. Essentially, it’s as deadly as the flu.

Now, Delta was much more deadly, so the rationale that OSHA is making before the Supreme Court is using out-dated data to justify the vax mandates.

According to the data, the death rate has dropped so significantly, there should be zero emergency claim for mandating The Jab.

The next reason the Biden Administration’s justification for the vaccine mandates is not valid is the claim that was made repeatedly about how The Jab protects the vaccinated. The lawyers continually stated and implied that the “vaccine” will stop the spread of Covid, keeping the vaccinated from contracting and spreading the virus to others. Even Dictator Fraudci is now refuting that claim, as he is calling on even the vaxxed to wear masks indoors to “protect” them from contracting and spreading the virus to others.

We all understand that The Jab doesn’t stop you from catching Covid. Nor does it stop you from spreading it. It also doesn’t keep you out of the hospital. And you can still die from Covid even if you’re fully vaccinated. To claim that this is how we stop Covid in light of the massive spike of Omicron cases among the fully-vaccinated is nothing but ridiculous and a flat-out lie.

And finally, we must also point it out the inherent risks in getting the Jab, especially compared to the extremely mild cases of Omicron. OSHA is using data from Delta in order to justify their mandate, despite the vast majority of cases being Omicron. If we look at VAERS, we are seeing tens of thousands of deaths and hundreds of thousands of adverse reactions from the Poison Death Shot.

The risk does not outweigh the reward, especially in light of Omicron. These points should clearly unravel OSHA’s entire claim that any sort of mandate is justified.

San Fran Teachers’ Union: Shut Down the Whole System for Omicron

'All across the City, restaurants, venues, offices, and even some private schools are shutting down or halting reopening... '

Teachers in the San Francisco United School District (SFUSD) have planned what they are calling a “Sick Out,” in order to avoid teaching, Breitbart reported.

They believe that the SFUSD has failed to protect them from the Omicron variant by cancelling school and expecting them to teach children in classrooms.

Hundreds of teachers signed a petition complaining about their jobs, and the associated risk of catching a cold.

“The new Omicron surge is resulting in a staggering spike of new cases,” they wrote. “All across the City, restaurants, venues, offices, and even some private schools are shutting down or halting reopening. And yet, in SFUSD, there have been no calls to halt or even slow our return to schools as Omicron continues to surge unabated.”

They also emphasized their desire to “defend the most vulnerable members of our community,” most of whom seem to be teachers who spend their “blood, sweat, and tears to compensate for the incompetence, greed, and complacence” of school district leaders.

They then proceeded to write a list of demands, rounded out by a two-week extension of Christmas break.

“We would ideally like a two week pause before school starts to allow time for testing and sufficient masks and rapid testing supplies to be sent to ALL sites and district offices. That is still the safest course of action,” they concluded.

The Omicron variant has caused a deep divide among leftists in recent weeks, as the establishment looks to return to normal and the far-left tries to continue the lockdowns.

President Joe Biden and Mayor Lori Lightfoot both reprimanded the Chicago Teachers’ Union earlier this week for attempting to avoid going back to the classroom.

Complicating matters, Chicago and San Francisco both received millions of tax dollars to keep schools open and are now misappropriating those funds.

They have instead decided to spend that money on the development of Critical Race Theory-based curricula.

MEDIA BLACKOUT: 5,000 Show Up Strong to NY Capital to Protest Vaccine Mandates

On Wednesday, January 5th, approximately 5,000 passionate and peaceful protestors marched to the New York Capital in Albany, protesting the overreaching vaccination and masking mandates

On Wednesday, January 5th, approximately 5,000 passionate and peaceful protestors marched to the New York Capital in Albany, protesting the overreaching vaccination and masking mandates. The rally was conducted in response to the New York governor’s decision to extend the mask and vaccine requirements to February 1st.

2022.01.07-08.16-lifezette-61d89f8c59be8.jpg

The rally was accordingly titled “Show Up Strong,” as the large, boisterous crowd marched and cheered. William Castro, New York Department of Education Administrator – who received a religious exemption – stated, “Freedom fighters across New York band together against governmental tyranny and push for medical liberty”. Though the rally focused on the entirety of the unconstitutional mandates, numerous individuals possessed posters and signs expressing specific concerns for child vaccination. Catherine Carr, a nurse who lost her job due to vaccine refusal and an attendee of the rally, claimed she saw many mothers with their children actively protesting at the rally, the mothers, Carr states, in a “momma bear mode”. In accommodation to these acts and signs, a copious number of American flags decorated the crowd, all being held high. The rally seems to have begun as groups gathered to form the march, which proceeded towards New York’s Capital in Albany.

Once at their destination, the march halted and continued their protest at the Capital, with a small band performing at the steps of the building. The crowd cheered and sang along to the band’s performance while maintaining a respectful yet energetic atmosphere. Michael Kane, a special education teacher, and speaker at the rally, said, “the energy was fantastic,” and that despite the hostile and freezing weather that day, citizens found refuge amongst themselves as the crowd huddled close for warmth, proceeding to be outspoken in defense of their rights. According to Kane, five other speakers could not attend the rally due to traffic conditions. Regardless of the climate threats many faced that day, upwards of 4,000 protestors felt the need to attend the rally. Kane claims this is a sign that people are “coming to their senses” and that it is time to have a reasonable optimism about the future. As a speaker at the event, Kane had the pleasure of welcoming other speakers to the center stage, presumably at the foot of the Capital. New York Transit and Labor Leader, Tarmell Thompson – who is fully vaccinated – was called onto the stage and upon arrival, he ripped his COVID vaccination card to pieces in front of the crowd.

In direct retaliation to the outspoken individuals demanding their rights be respected and maintained, the Medical Society of the State of New York stated on the 5th, “MSSNY continues to be grateful for the science that has made the COVID-19 vaccines a reality.” (MSSNY, 2022). This statement continued with, “We unreservedly support the COVID-19 vaccine mandate for all healthcare workers,” and “With new cases in children in the U.S. continuing at a high level, we encourage parents to vaccinate their school-aged children.” (MSSNY, 2022).

Instances like the “Show Up Strong” rally and officials within the MSSNY combating each other are testaments that American citizens are having to demand that their constitutional rights be recognized. Even with these pressing forces, Carr states that “It may not look like we’re winning, but we are,” as she referenced how many lawsuits are being filed against the mandates and won.

Our rights are precious, as is the capability to believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, which was bestowed upon us so that we may glorify Him. Let our eyes be on the Lord as we find a resting place at His feet, and may we utilize our divine rights to glorify and uphold His Truth in these challenging times.

New Research Appears to Confirm That Omi-Con Came From MICE, Indicating Likely Laboratory Origins

New Research Appears to Confirm That Omi-Con Came From MICE, Indicating Likely Laboratory Origins

Scientists from several Chinese research institutions claim to have found evidence that the new Omicron (Moronic) variant of the Wuhan coronavirus (Covid-19) may have come from mice, indicating possible laboratory origins.

This so-called mutation supposedly has 45 points that diverge from the B.1.1 lineage, which is different from the B.1.617.2 lineage of the Delta variant, which the media honed in on back in the summer and fall.

“We found that the Omicron spike protein sequence was subjected to stronger positive selection than that of any reported SARS-CoV-2 variants known to evolve persistently in human hosts, suggesting a possibility of host-jumping,” the scientists wrote in their paper.

“The molecular spectrum of mutations (i.e., the relative frequency of the 12 types of base substitutions) acquired by the progenitor of Omicron was significantly different from the spectrum for viruses that evolved in human patients, but resembled the spectra associated with virus evolution in a mouse cellular environment.”

They further found that the mutations inherent to the Moronic spike protein significantly overlap with SARS-CoV-2 mutation known to promote adaptation to mouse hosts. It has a particular affinity for the mouse cell entry receptor, they claim.

“Collectively, our results suggest that the progenitor of Omicron jumped from humans to mice, rapidly accumulated mutations conducive to infecting that host, then jumped back into humans, indicating an inter-species evolutionary trajectory for the Omicron outbreak,” the study further states.

Will Omicron end the plandemic once and for all?
As you probably well know, the origins debate is a highly contentious one. Those pushing the plandemic claim the virus originated in bat stew, while the other side says it was more than likely created in a lab.

The evidence would seem to point strongly at laboratory origins for the original novel coronavirus. The same now appears to be true for Moronic, [word scramble] which more than likely does not occur randomly in nature.

There is also some speculation that Moronic may be a “white hat” operation to put an end to the plandemic once and for all.

If it really is the case that Moronic is a very mild form of the novel coronavirus that produces minimal, if any symptoms, then it stands to generate long-term protection against other mutated forms of the virus whenever they emerge.

In a recent press release, the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) admitted that cases of Moronic in that state have been extremely mild and of no real concern.

A major outbreak of it would pretty much be a good thing if it means that everyone exposed will develop permanent immunity to all forms of SARS-CoV-2.

It is also speculated that Moronic could be a “fully vaccinated” disease, seeing as how most of the people testing “positive” for it are those who took the jabs like the government told them to do.

“Humans represent the largest known reservoir of SARS-CoV-2, and frequently come in contact with other animals, including livestock animals, pets, or wild animals that invade homes searching for food and shelter,” the study further explains, suggesting that Moronic-infected animals could be spreading the mutation to humans.

“Given the ability of SARS-CoV-2 to jump across various species, it appears likely that global populations will face additional animal-derived variants until the pandemic is well under control.”

“Our study thus emphasizes the need for viral surveillance and sequencing in animals, especially those in close contact with humans. Furthermore, computational characterization of the spike RBD in animals and identification of their potentials to interact with human ACE2 will likely help to prevent future outbreaks of dangerous SARS-CoV-2 variants.”

The Failing Case for COVID-19 Mandates

Jarrett Stepman / @JarrettStepman / January 07, 2022
 width=

The recent COVID-19 outbreak is dealing a major blow to the justification for extreme vaccine mandates.

While there is some evidence that vaccines decrease the severity of COVID-19 infection, the public policy arguments to essentially force Americans to get vaccinated, under threat of losing their livelihoods is rapidly falling apart as the recent wave sweeps the country.

What we are seeing with the latest surge in cases—attributed to the omicron and delta variants of COVID-19—is that countless people who have been vaccinated and boosted are getting sick.

Plenty of left-wing media outlets have tried to make Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis seem like a reckless monster for refusing to implement harsh lockdowns and mandates since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. The pattern has repeated itself in the most recent wave.

But the reality is that there is no evidence that these policies would do anything to stop COVID-19 breakouts. If anything, Florida appears to be a refuge for Americans who want to carry on a semblance of normal life during a pandemic where there are no perfect options.

Some far-left politicians appear to be happily taking advantage of the haven Florida has created.

Are Florida’s less restrictive policies creating a dangerous environment compared to places that went all in on mandates?

Let’s look at the example of New York.

The state has one of the highest vaccination rates in the country. It also has a statewide proof of vaccination or mask requirement. New York City has a proof of vaccination requirement for indoor businesses and dining.

Yet, the state and certainly the city is being hit by an enormous wave of Covid cases.

On Monday, 14% of NYPD officers were out sick according to the New York Post. Most had COVID-19 or flu-like symptoms.

“The FDNY said 30 percent of its 4,200 EMS staff and 18 percent of its 11,000 firefighters were sick,” the Post reported.

While sickness numbers for many other city agencies haven’t been reported, it’s likely that they are very high.

This, after the city put thousands of its workers on leave due to their vaccine requirements. Now, presumably with a nearly entirely vaccinated staff, they are dealing with a serious shortage of healthy workers.

Could the city maybe use some of those workers put on leave from the mandates?

Health care providers could perhaps also use some of the thousands of people who lost their jobs in New York because they wouldn’t get the vaccines.

New York has taken the vaccine mandate a step further, implementing a private sector vaccine mandate that just went into effect. Former Mayor Bill de Blasio may not have cared about the mandate’s impact on private businesses, but there is no doubt those businesses will feel the staff crunch.

Many businesses—restaurants in particular—have already been forced to make their staff check vaccine papers at the door. This policy now seems farcical in the face of the clear inability of the vaccine to stop people from getting sick.

It’s a performative act for the sake of compliance that does little for public safety.

It’s not just New York that’s implemented strict policies while dealing with a huge COVID-19 outbreak. Washington, D.C., which also has highly restrictive COVID-19 policies, is likewise facing a surge right now. It’s hard not to see a similar situation not playing out all over the country this winter.

The bottom line is this. It’s become clear that a significant number of Americans will get sick with COVID-19 this season, vaccine or not. Given the numbers we are seeing in New York and elsewhere it’s hard to argue that highly restrictive and intrusive mandates are stopping that reality.

The justification that the Biden administration and other state and local governments have used to implement the mandates, even beyond the legal and constitutional issues, is crumbling.

Perhaps this is why Biden’s approval on COVID-19—one of the very few issues where he was above water—is dropping sharply. Draconian COVID-19 policies of increasingly dubious effectiveness are remaining popular only among the strongly ideologically committed.

The test now is to see how leaders and policymakers will respond. Will they stick with the repressive mandates, or will they adjust to reality?

Exclusive — AE4HF Co-Founder on Vaccine Mandate: ‘If We Don’t Take a Stand, We Could Lose This Nation for Our Children’

“We could lose this country” if corporate and government vaccine mandates are not legally defeated, Sherry Walker, pilot and co-founder of Airline Employees for Health Freedom (AE4HF), said on Wednesday’s edition of SiriusXM’s Breitbart News Daily with host Alex Marlow.

Walker explained her rationale for launching AE4HF to challenge vaccine mandates.

She remarked, “I looked down the hall at my 16-year-old and I realized that someday he’s going be faced with medical choices that his boss is going to impose on him if I don’t do something. He’s going look back at me, and he’s going to say, ‘Mom, 10 years ago you had a chance to stop this. Why didn’t you fix it?’ And so that’s why I’m fighting. If we all keep in mind that if we don’t take a stand, we could lose this nation for our children — yeah — that motivates me every day makes me get up and get going.

Walker said United Airlines “could have easily” market demand for domestic flights around Christmas if not for manufactured shortages of pilots and crew driven by CEO Scott Kirby’s imposition of a vaccine mandate on the company’s employees. Kirby blamed “exposure” to COVID-19 for the company’s cancellation of hundreds of flights on December 24 and 25.

17:00 min

She stated, “We had advance notice through company contacts that the airline was facing its normal holiday labor shortages. Add in omicron, and the warnings were 25 to 30 percent reduction in staffing. So as the weekend approached — the 23rd, 24th, 25th, and 26th — we started doing some calculations. If Mr. Kirby would merely put the 354 pilots that I have on the street willing to work back to work, we could have covered over 1,200 flights.”

She continued, “Well, you still need flight attendants — so about four-to-one on the flight attendant side [of the ratio] — drops that number to about 850. So we could have easily gotten our customers, who we dearly appreciate and love, to their destinations to be with their families for the holidays had he merely ended his direct draconian policy of indefinite unpaid leave.”

Walker described Kirby’s public declarations of his corporate vaccine mandate decree as a “marketing campaign” wrapped up as a safety measure.

View: https://twitter.com/i/status/1436302343419670535
1:46 min

“We found that the notifications that they [United Airlines was] bragging to the frequent flyers that we would be an all-vaccinated airline by December,” she recalled. “We believe it’s a marketing campaign. When you threaten people’s livelihoods for that purpose — not for a fair opportunity — that’s what motivates me.

Walker noted how United Airlines became increasingly invasive in its questioning of pilots and crew seeking exemptions from the corporate vaccine mandate on religious grounds.

She said, “As we went down through the process, the rules of the game changed. First, you had to have a letter from your pastor. ‘Well, no. Now you have to have a letter of somebody who knows you.’ ‘Well, now we have to ask you questions about your faith and why you can take an aspirin, but you can’t take a shot.’ The whole things just seemed to be leading to something sinister.”

Medical Experts Reveal the Scientific Reason Why Covid Vaccines Cannot ‘Stop the Spread’ or Prevent Infection

January 6, 2022
by Kyle Becker
shutterstock_1663832209-810x455.jpg

Written by Kyle Becker

It’s a lie that Americans were told repeatedly in the all-out government and media effort to get every living being in the United States jabbed: “Vaccines stop the spread.”

President Biden himself told the known lie in October 2021, and even “fact checkers” wouldn’t back him up.

“We’re making sure healthcare workers are vaccinated because if you seek care at a healthcare facility, you should have the certainty that the people providing that care are protected from COVID and cannot spread it to you,” Biden claimed.

It is important to note that this was a deliberate lie to mislead the American people into taking the vaccines, regardless of individual risk. CDC Director Rochelle Walensky had admitted a month earlier that the Covid vaccines didn’t prevent the spread of the virus.

“Our vaccines are working exceptionally well,” Walensky claimed. “They continue to work well for Delta with regard to severe illness and death, they prevent it. But what they can’t do anymore is prevent transmission.”

The viral loads in the vaccinated and unvaccinated proved to be similar, as the CDC stated in a document released in July.

“Today, some of those data were published in CDC’s Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report (MMWR), demonstrating that Delta infection resulted in similarly high SARS-CoV-2 viral loads in vaccinated and unvaccinated people,” the CDC report said. “High viral loads suggest an increased risk of transmission and raised concern that, unlike with other variants, vaccinated people infected with Delta can transmit the virus.”

Since then, Covid vaccines have become major vectors for both the Omicron and the Delta variants. Indeed, in September, Becker News reported that higher vaccination rates appeared to correlate with more Covid-19 infections. This trend was confirmed by a Harvard-led study of 68 nations and 2,947 counties in the United States that was published in the European Journal of Epidemiology in December.

But the question remains: Why? Was the inability of the “vaccines” to stop infections or the spread an oversight on the part of scientists or was it an inherent flaw in the mRNA shots’ mechanism?

More importantly, was this a design flaw or did the vaccines work exactly as intended?

Two highly esteemed doctors have produced scientific findings that show that not only do these mRNA shots fail to stop the spread of an airborne virus like Covid-19, they are unable to prevent transmission.

First, let’s get the backgrounds of the medical researchers. Apparently, since truth is publicly associated with “authority,” especially among the scientifically illiterate, let us examine the credentials. According to their short biographies, they are quite impressive.

“Dr. Bhakdi has spent his life practicing, teaching and researching medical microbiology and infectious diseases,” the Doctors for Covid ethics website states. “He chaired the Institute of Medical Microbiology and Hygiene at the Johannes Gutenberg Unversity of Mainz, Germany, from 1990 until his retirement in 2012. He has published over 300 research articles in the fields of immunology, bacteriology, virology and parasitology, and served from 1990 to 2012 as Editor-in-Chief of Medical Microbiology and Immunology, one of the first scientific journals of this field that was founded by Robert Koch in 1887.”

“Dr. Arne Burkhardt is a pathologist who has taught at the Universities of Hamburg, Berne and Tübingen,” the article continues. “He was invited for visiting professorships/study visits in Japan (Nihon University), the United States (Brookhaven National Institute), Korea, Sweden, Malaysia and Turkey. He headed the Institute of Pathology in Reutlingen for 18 years. Subsquently, he worked as an independent practicing pathologist with consulting contracts with laboratories in the US. Burkhardt has published more than 150 scientific articles in German and international scientific journals as well as contributions to handbooks in German, English and Japanese. Over many years he has audited and certified institutes of pathology in Germany.

The article then states why these mRNA shots are incapable of stopping infection and transmission of Covid-19.

“A fundamental mistake underlying the development of the COVID-19 vaccines was to neglect the functional distinction between the two major categories of antibodies which the body produces in order to protect itself from pathogenic microbes,” the doctors note.

“The first category (secretory IgA) is produced by immune cells (lymphocytes) which are located directly underneath the mucous membranes that line the respiratory and intestinal tract,” they point out. “The antibodies produced by these lymphocytes are secreted through and to the surface of the mucous membranes. These antibodies are thus on site to meet air-borne viruses, and they may be able to prevent viral binding and infection of the cells.”

“The second category of antibodies (IgG and circulating IgA) occur in the bloodstream,” the doctors go on. “These antibodies protect the internal organs of the body from infectious agents that try to spread via the bloodstream.”

“Vaccines that are injected into the muscle – i.e., the interior of the body – will only induce IgG and circulating IgA, not secretory IgA. Such antibodies cannot and will not effectively protect the mucous membranes from infection by SARS-CoV-2,” the article continues. “Thus, the currently observed ‘breakthrough infections’ among vaccinated individuals merely confirm the fundamental design flaws of the vaccines.”

“Measurements of antibodies in the blood can never yield any information on the true status of immunity against infection of the respiratory tract,” they add.

“The inability of vaccine-induced antibodies to prevent coronavirus infections has been reported in recent scientific publications.”

In other words, there was never a time when any scientist could claim these “vaccines” could “prevent transmission” based on any empirical evidence. They either lied about claiming they knew that they could stop transmission or they deliberately designed the “vaccines” to be vectors for virus transmission in order to justify universal vaccine mandates.

Thus, while the scientific data suggest the mRNA shots being marketed as ‘vaccines’ may correlate with a lowered risk of hospitalization and death among the ‘at-risk’ segment of the population, the vaccines are not an impediment to infection or transmission.

Therefore, vaccine mandates and vaccine passports are irrelevant from a public policy standpoint. They do nothing but balkanize society, violate individuals’ health rights, and introduce more long-term medical unknowns for Americans who are not significantly at-risk from Covid-19 (such as those who are young or have natural immunity).

UK Gov't Admits Evidence For Face Masks Stopping COVID Spread In Schools "Not Conclusive"

SATURDAY, JAN 08, 2022 - 08:45 AM

The latest example of why people shouldn't blindly follow 'the science...as decreed by bureaucrats', arrived Friday, when Bloomberg reported that a study undertaken by the British government to justify forcing children to wear masks in schools has forced them to admit that the evidence for the efficacy of face masks stopping the spread of COVID-19 in schools is "not conclusive."

Data from the Department of Education stated that whilst not conclusive, there are now a number of scientific studies which consider the association between COVID-19 and the use of face coverings specifically in education.

The study cited by the department didn’t provide proof of a statistically significant decline in absences.

The research compared 123 U.K. schools that used masks with about 1,200 others that didn’t during the Covid wave fueled by the delta variant.

Schools with face-covering rules in October 2021 saw their absence rate drop by 2.3 percentage points, to 3%, two to three weeks later.

In schools that didn’t use masks, absences fell by 1.7 percentage points, to 3.6%.

As BBC reports, the study concluded that this difference was not statistically significant and the greater reduction in schools where masks were worn could be down to chance.

One epidemiologist quoted by Bloomberg said the government's data didn't provide strong enough evidence to justify requiring face coverings in schools.

"The study and research outlined in this report does not provide strong justification for introducing this policy in schools," said Sarah Lewis, professor of molecular epidemiology at the University of Bristol.

And they should, because forcing children to wear masks all day inhibits their ability to learn, particularly if they struggle with hearing difficulties.

Mask mandates can detract from the quality of education and exclude pupils with hearing difficulties from discussions, Lewis said.

"Where there is insufficient evidence of a benefit of a policy and evidence of harms the default should be not to intervene," she said.

The decision to impose the mask rules was a “really tough choice,” but one that was necessary for a few weeks, Education Secretary Nadhim Zahawi said in a Times Radio interview. But not everybody feels the same way.

The backlash to the mask mandate has intensified, even making its way to the House of Commons, where one critic pointed out that teachers aren't required to wear masks.

The situation in Britain's schools has only worsened. More than one-third of schools have at least 10% of teachers absent due to COVID reasons. And some students rebelled against the mask mandate by refusing to wear their masks.

“Sadly, we have had reports in the last 24 hours of at least six secondary schools in the north-west of England where children, in huge numbers, are refusing to take lateral flow tests or to wear masks,” said Damien McNulty, a national executive member of the National Association of Schoolmasters Union of Women Teachers.

“We’ve got one school in Lancashire where only 67 children out of 1,300 are prepared to have a lateral flow test and wear masks. This is a public health emergency,” he added.

Additionally, according to University of Oxford Professor Jim Naismith, when England dropped face mask mandates back in July and Scotland maintained them, it made “no meaningful difference” to infection rates.

Chicago Parents Sue Teachers Union Over Refusal To Educate In-Person

SATURDAY, JAN 08, 2022 - 03:30 PM
Authored by Zachary Stieber via The Epoch Times,

A group of Chicago parents this week sued the city’s teachers union over its refusal to teach classes in person.

The Chicago Teachers Union (CTU) voted on Tuesday night to only teach classes remotely, arguing the rise in COVID-19 cases and an alleged lack of protective measures made it too dangerous to instruct students inside classrooms.

Chicago Public Schools (CPS) deemed the action an illegal work stoppage and canceled classes for three consecutive days as officials negotiated with union leaders. CTU and city officials also filed competing labor complaints.

The lawsuit, filed in Cook County circuit court, offers a similar view of the union’s refusal.
The union “never sent a notice of intent to strike to CPS, the regional superintendent, or the Educational Labor Relations Board,” the suit states.

“And less than 24 hours elapsed from the time CTU members voted on its measure to authorize a strike on January 4, 2022, and when they did not show up for work in-person the next day, in contrast to the requirement under Illinois law that 10 days elapse from the vote to authorize a strike to the time a strike begins.”
The law in question, the Illinois Educational Labor Relations Act, outlines requirements for when teachers go on strike.

The union, which did not immediately return an inquiry, has said the attempt to shift to remote learning is not a strike. Tennille Evans, a teacher and union organizer, told reporters in a briefing that it’s “a work action, not a strike,” but the parents say that no part of state law, no contract, and no local ordinance authorizes the union to decide to teach virtually without approval from the Chicago Board of Education.

The parents say they’ve been harmed by the situation “because their children are being denied schooling and they have had to secure child care for their children.”

They’re asking the court to make clear that CTU’s actions amount to a strike and that the vote violated the collective bargaining agreement between the union and the city. The court should prevent CTU from continuing to authorize its members to not teach in person unless all conditions set forth in state law are met, and the agreement isn’t violated.

The parents also want the court to award them damages in the form of lost income and cost of securing child care while classes were canceled.
“Throughout this entire pandemic, our kids have paid a tremendous price for adults’ mistakes and miscalculations, and now the teachers’ union has hastily and recklessly put them on their political roller coaster again,” Laurel Golden, lead plaintiff in the lawsuit and a Chicago parent, said in a statement.

“The science is clear, and so is the desire of parents: Our kids need and deserve to be in school. This illegal strike must be ended immediately, and we must get kids back into the classroom.”
The union, meanwhile, in press releases and the briefing on Friday indicated there’s no plans at this time to end the refusal to teach in person.
“The COVID cases are spiraling out of control in every neighborhood, and that is why we ask for [remote classes],” Evans said.
Mayor Lori Lightfoot and Chicago Public Schools CEO Pedro Martinez said in a joint statement around the same time that negotiations “continued today and went into the evening,” adding, “The sessions remain productive but must be concluded this weekend.”

Omicron Could End Up Being Less Deadly Than Seasonal Flu; New US Study Finds

SATURDAY, JAN 08, 2022 - 01:30 PM
Authored by Paul Joseph Watson via Summit News,

Citing experts at the University of Washington, the MailOnline reports that Omicron’s estimated fatality rate could make it less deadly than the seasonal flu.

“No, don’t say that!” the technocrats cry in unison.
“Some experts have always maintained that the coronavirus would eventually morph into a seasonal cold-like virus as the world develops immunity through vaccines and natural infection,” reports the news outlet.

“But the emergence of the highly-mutated Omicron variant appears to have sped the process up.”
Researchers at Washington University now modeling Omicron’s impact say they expect it to kill 99 per cent fewer people than Delta.

This means the variant’s infection-fatality rate (IFR) stands at around 0.07 per cent, meaning only one in 1,430 people will die after becoming ill with Omicron.
In comparison, flu’s IFR sits between 0.01 and 0.05 per cent.

One former government advisor suggested that Omicron’s mildness renders draconian lockdown restrictions absurd.

“We should be asking whether we are justified in having any measures we would not bring for a bad flu season,” said Professor Robert Dingwall.

“If we would not have brought in the measures in November 2019, why are we doing it now? What’s the specific justification for doing it?” he asked.

1641684286487.png

“If the severity of Covid infection is falling away to the point that it is comparable with flu then we really shouldn’t have exceptional levels of intervention.”

As Will Jones writes today, despite record numbers of cases in the UK over the Christmas period, COVID ICU occupancy is less than a quarter of its peak last January.
“Whether due to greater population immunity, a milder strain, or better treatments, this is obviously very welcome,” writes Jones.

“It is also confirmation that the pandemic is well and truly over – we are basically now expending vast resources tracking the spread of a cold – and it is time for the Government to acknowledge this fact, lift all restrictions, end all emergency powers, and bring the state of emergency to an end.”
Omicron’s total failure to cause anywhere near the devastation predicted by SAGE government advisors once again proves that their alarmist nonsense should no longer be respected.

The likes of Professor Neil Ferguson said that without further restrictions, Omicron would claim 3-5,000 lives a day at its peak.

In reality, the current 7 day average for total COVID-19 deaths in the UK (almost all of which aren’t even Omicron due to its mildness) stands at 160.

They got it spectacularly wrong yet again.

Get The Courts Out Of Science

SATURDAY, JAN 08, 2022 - 12:30 PM
Authored by Jeffrey Tucker via The Brownstone Institute,

Yesterday morning I listened to the oral arguments in the case of the Biden administration’s vaccine mandates as enforced by OSHA. It was a demoralizing experience.

I heard some crazy things, such as a claim that “750 million” Americans just got Covid yesterday, and that 100,000 kids with Covid are in the hospital, many on ventilators. The correct number is 3,300 with positive tests, but not necessarily suffering from Covid. I further heard strong claims that the vaccines block disease spread, despite every bit of evidence to the contrary.
It was my first time hearing oral arguments in the Supreme Court. I might have thought that facts on the ground would actually matter to people who are holding the fate of human liberty in their hands. I might have thought that they would be getting their information from somewhere other than their political intuition, mixed with wildly inaccurate claims from bloggers and media pundits.

I was wrong. And that is deeply alarming. Or maybe it is a wake up call to us all. We have learned today that these people are no smarter than our neighbors, no more qualified to address complicated questions than our friends, and arguably far less informed than the Twittersphere about basic issues of Covid and public health.

The backdrop of today’s arguments is that 74% of Americans of all ages have had at least one shot. Meanwhile, case numbers are up 500% in many places, and 721,000 new cases have been logged throughout the country, and that’s obviously a large underestimate because it does not count at-home tests which are selling out in stores around the country.

The extremely obvious point – the most basic observation one can make about this data – is that the vaccinations are not controlling the spread. This has been granted already by the CDC and every other authority.

No matter what people say in retrospect, I seriously doubt that anyone would have predicted a future in which the pandemic highs would be reached following mass vaccination. It’s not only true in the US but also all over the world. However much they help with mitigating severe outcomes of the disease, at least for a time, they have not been successful in stopping the spread of the virus. They will not end the pandemic.

And yet, so far as I can understand this, that is the whole point of the vaccine mandate. It is to protect workers from getting Covid. There is no zero evidence that this is possible with mass mandates in the workforce. People can get and are getting Covid anywhere and everywhere, among which surely means the workplace too. The vaccine is not stopping that. What will bring this pandemic to an end will not be the vaccines but the adaptation of human immune systems, exposed and then developing resilience.

Apparently there was not one mention of natural immunity during the oral arguments, which is truly astounding. From what I could hear, there was a strangely truncated environment in which no one was willing to say certain obvious truths, almost as if a pre-set orthodoxy had been defined at the outset.

There were certain givens that simply were not questioned; namely that this is a disease without precedent, that the state can stop it, that vaccines are the best ticket we have, that the unvaccinated have absolutely no good reason to remain that way.

To be sure, the oral arguments are not what decides a case. The briefs filed for the court are much better on the side of opposing the mandates, while the briefs for the mandates are filled with untruths that are easily exploded. In the end, it is very likely that the mandate will be struck down in a 6 to 3 vote. I’m glad for that. We should be relieved.

However, we need to do some serious thinking about what is going on here.

We are talking about a mandate that profoundly affects the health and well-being of millions of people.

The question of whether someone should take the vaccine is bound up with extremely complex empirical questions, and opinions run in every direction, from those who think it is the greatest gift of modern science to those who think the vaccines themselves are not only dangerous but also unleashing ever more variants. These are matters of science and should be subject to debate, with the final choices made by individuals.

What absolutely cannot happen in any free, civilized, and stable country is to have such fundamental questions of liberty and bodily autonomy adjudicated by a panel of lawyers who have limited curiosity in the science, a lack of knowledge of facts on the ground that are available to anyone who cares, and who get their basic facts about a pandemic from TV talk shows and a prevailing media ethos that has no basis in reality.

How did we end up here?
We need the answers to this question. Certain issues should be absolutely off limits to the courts. Those issues pertain to fundamental questions concerning science and its application to human health. Of all things that need to be outside the realm of politics and the courts, it is these. The courts lack the competence.

Even if the decision goes the right way, there is no real basis for feeling relieved and secure about our future.

Liberty can win this one and lose the next one. It all depends on the court appointments. This is not how a social order can operate. We need a system in which foundational issues of health, science, and liberty are outside the scope of the court system.

I wish I knew how to get there. We’ve been on a very long trajectory in which government exercises ever more control over our lives, inch by inch, for the better part of a century. We’ve come to the point where this control is a severe threat to our capacity to live free and dignified lives without being subject to the arbitrary whims of “experts” with power.

The courts have been too acquiescent for too long. If we had a really functioning court system and a Constitution that it followed, the forced closures of March 2020 would have been struck down in hours and ruled out as incompatible with freedom itself.

My highest hope is that the majority opinion here, if it goes the right way, will not be narrow and evasive, picking apart the mandate based on technicalities, but sweeping and fundamental. It should say in no uncertain terms that this mandate should never have been issued and that the court should never have to intervene in such matters in the future.

Freedom requires at least the presumption that businesses (and all institutions) can operate without acting as proxies for the federal health police – pushing injections on their workers against their will – and that workers have the right to determine what medicines they will and will not take.

The very existence of this case in the Supreme Court reveals that something is fundamentally broken about our presumptions about the relationship between the individual and the state. It must be fixed. It won’t finally be fixed by a court but rather a dramatic cultural change that embraces certain fundamental propositions about liberty itself. We’ve played too many games and taken too many risks for too long.

Let us hope that this case awakens a culture and a world to a desperate need for dramatic reform. Human rights and public health are too important to be left in the hands of high courts.

Huge percentage of COVID hospitalizations in New York apparently not due to COVID
Breakdown in data has been source of controversy for two years.
Updated: January 8, 2022 - 10:16am

Data from the state of New York appears to indicate that a huge percentage of “hospitalizations” for COVID-19 there are not actually due to COVID-19 itself.

In a data dump from Gov. Kathy Hochul’s office, the governor shared numbers of “how many hospitalized individuals who have tested positive for COVID-19 were admitted for COVID-19/COVID-19 complications and how many were admitted for non-COVID-19 conditions.”

Statewide, the number of patients who have tested positive for COVID but where the disease “was not included as one of the reasons for admission” is 43 percent.

The distinction between patients hospitalized “due to” COVID and those merely hospitalized “with it” continues to be a source of controversy and vexation for public officials, data analysts and commentators.

Journalists and some experts have been warning for much of the pandemic that the true hospital burden of COVID-19 is being distorted by the failure to distinguish between those two categories.

U.S. public officials appear to be coming around to the distinction. Top infectious disease expert Anthony Fauci, for instance, several days ago acknowledged that a high proportion of pediatric COVID hospitalizations actually involve children “hospitalized with COVID as opposed to because of COVID.”
