Scott Gottlieb: Start lifting the indoor mask mandates now

ALLAHPUNDIT May 07, 2021 12:44 PM ET

C’mon, bro. You know how hypercautious the CDC is about lifting restrictions.

Indoor mask mandates aren’t going away until 2022 at the earliest.

Still, it’s nice to see an expert as respected as Gottlieb taking the bull by the horns. “How this seems to work is Gottlieb says it, a couple of weeks later a lib-shaming piece gets published in The Atlantic, and three weeks after that Biden tells the CDC to do something,” Patrick Ruffini half-joked about Gottlieb’s influence this morning. That’s an exaggeration but not a huge one: Gottlieb has consistently been more aggressive on matters like ending outdoor mask mandates and easing restrictions in schools than the federal bureaucracy has, only to have that bureaucracy catch up to his position within a month or two.

Makes you wonder how much the CDC is being guided by “science” versus how much it’s waiting for other scientists to provide it with public political cover before relaxing precautions.

Gottlieb is now ready to lift mask mandates not just outdoors but indoors too:

To a layman, that seems borderline reckless. No one thinks we’ve reached herd immunity yet. Less than half the population has been vaccinated. Even if you assume that another 20 percent of Americans have natural immunity from having been infected by COVID, more than a third of the country is still vulnerable. Do we really want to ditch indoor mask mandates under those circumstances?

Well, maybe. Read Kyle Smith’s take if you missed it yesterday. If everyone at risk from COVID has now had a meaningful opportunity to get vaccinated, by what logic should we keep restrictions in place? What are we waiting for? Besides, herd immunity isn’t a magical threshold. We’ve already acquired some degree of it, notes Ashish Jha. But, he adds, taking precautions can still help slow the spread even as immunity continues to build in the population:
Real-world evidence from Israel and the United Kingdom suggests that even without hitting the herd immunity threshold, vaccination can drive infections way down. Why? Because immunity in a population is not like an on-off switch. As populations begin to build up immunity, infection spread begins to slow. If people practice even modest levels of public health measures such as mask-wearing indoors or avoiding large crowds, it may be enough to drive infection numbers down substantially. To stretch the fire metaphor, even if you don’t have the flames surrounded on all sides, a little bit of a drizzle combined with some firebreaks may be enough to keep it from burning out of control.
Gottlieb is ready to get rid of one of those firebreaks, the indoor mask mandate, with unpredictable results at a moment when the country is still seeing more than 40,000 cases per day. One argument in his defense is that he’s simply calling for an end to mandates, not for an end to mask-wearing indoors. The unvaccinated could still wear theirs voluntarily to protect themselves while the vaccinated could ditch them to show off their new freedom. The problem with that logic, however, is that it wouldn’t play out that way in reality. Rather the opposite:

Screen-Shot-2021-05-07-at-11.21.40-AM.png

Note the second and third lines especially. That phenomenon has been borne out in poll after poll: The vaccinated remain cautious about socializing even after being (partially) dosed while the anti-vaxxers are prepared to throw caution to the wind and get back to normal. Here’s an even more absurd result from the same poll:

Screen-Shot-2021-05-07-at-10.47.13-AM.png

In this case people were asked how safe it is for the vaccinated to do certain activities — yet those who have themselves been partially vaxxed are more likely to believe it’s unsafe for them to socialize indoors with unvaccinated people than unvaccinated people are.

Lift the indoor mask mandate, in other words, and we’re apt to see the unvaccinated going barefaced while the vaxxed continue to mask up. Which sounds like a recipe for outbreaks, if not a new national wave.

Jha predicts in his op-ed that the national case count will continue to slide but that we’ll go on seeing localized outbreaks due to disparities in vaccination rates between different communities. No doubt. I’ve written before about the “two-track pandemic” that’s shaping up in which blue states achieve herd immunity or something close to it due to higher rates of vaccine uptake while red states lag behind. This graph bears that out and suggests we may see regional waves going forward:

Screen-Shot-2021-05-07-at-10.46.21-AM.png

The northeast and west coast should be wave-proof by fall. The midwest is a mixed bag. The south? Not great.

Ultimately I think Gottlieb’s worried about the public health bureaucracy preserving what’s left of its credibility in case restrictions need to be imposed this fall or winter. If you’re not willing to relax restrictions when cases are declining, he’s thinking, then you can’t expect people to pay attention when you say it’s time to tighten them as cases begin to rise again. Realistically, though, is there any scenario in which Americans will tolerate 2020-style restrictions this fall, no matter how bad things get? Maybe they’d accept an indoor mask mandate being reimposed, but barring the emergence of a monster variant it’s hard to believe that anything resembling a lockdown would be tolerated again. Am I wrong?

Joe Biden’s White House Covid Coordinator Jeffrey Zients admitted the US government is creating a caste system wherein vaccinated individuals will have more freedoms and privileges than non-vaccinated people.

“I think everyone is tired and wearing a mask can be a pain but we’re gettin there,” Zientz said during an appearance on CNN’s “State of the Union” on Sunday. “The CDC guidance across time will allow vaccinated people more and more privileges to take off that mask.”

“15 days to slow the spread” has turned into: mandatory mask mandates and vaccine passports in order to ‘return to normal life.’

How will people know if others are vaccinated or not?

Immunaband company introduced new blue silicone wristbands that will carry your Covid vax card information. The company is hoping this will catch on and that Americans will rush to purchase their wristband to let others know you’ve been vaccinated.

These wristbands will do until the microchips are rolled out and made mandatory.

“ImmunaBand,” the blue silicone wristband, has a built-in QR code that will carry your Covid vax info and will let others know you are safe to be around – that’s according to the company that created the product.

Dr. Fauci Says Mask-Wearing will Likely Become Permanent (VIDEO)

By Cristina Laila

Remember when Dr. Fauci said masks don’t work?

Now Fauci is suggesting mask-wearing will become permanent.

Fauci appeared on NBC’s “Meet the Press” on Sunday and told host Chuck Todd that thanks to mask-wearing, the seasonal flu was pretty much non-existent this year.

The seasonal flu was just recoded into Covid so medical facilities can make more money, but Fauci gets paid big bucks to lie and push CCP propaganda so here we are.

“We’ve had practically a non-existent flu season this year merely because people were doing the kinds of public health things that were directed predominantly against COVID-19,” Fauci said with a straight face.

“So it is conceivable that as we go on, a year or two or more from now, that during certain seasonal periods when you have respiratory-borne viruses like the flu, people might actually elect to wear masks to diminish the likelihood that you’ll spread these respiratory-borne diseases,” Fauci added.

The Covid tyranny stops when we say it stops.

Ok,
"Immunobands will work until microchips are rolled out and made Mandatory"...Did I just read that correctly?

Now tell me that there is not a nefarious plan behind all these things. We are growing incrementally closer to that "mark" that we have read about in the book of Revelation.

The origin of COVID: Did people or nature open Pandora’s box at Wuhan?
By Nicholas Wade | May 5, 2021

The COVID-19 pandemic has disrupted lives the world over for more than a year. Its death toll will soon reach three million people. Yet the origin of pandemic remains uncertain: The political agendas of governments and scientists have generated thick clouds of obfuscation, which the mainstream press seems helpless to dispel.

In what follows I will sort through the available scientific facts, which hold many clues as to what happened, and provide readers with the evidence to make their own judgments. I will then try to assess the complex issue of blame, which starts with, but extends far beyond, the government of China.

By the end of this article, you may have learned a lot about the molecular biology of viruses. I will try to keep this process as painless as possible. But the science cannot be avoided because for now, and probably for a long time hence, it offers the only sure thread through the maze.

The virus that caused the pandemic is known officially as SARS-CoV-2, but can be called SARS2 for short. As many people know, there are two main theories about its origin. One is that it jumped naturally from wildlife to people. The other is that the virus was under study in a lab, from which it escaped. It matters a great deal which is the case if we hope to prevent a second such occurrence.

I’ll describe the two theories, explain why each is plausible, and then ask which provides the better explanation of the available facts. It’s important to note that so far there is no direct evidence for either theory. Each depends on a set of reasonable conjectures but so far lacks proof. So I have only clues, not conclusions, to offer. But those clues point in a specific direction. And having inferred that direction, I’m going to delineate some of the strands in this tangled skein of disaster.

A tale of two theories. After the pandemic first broke out in December 2019, Chinese authorities reported that many cases had occurred in the wet market?—?a place selling wild animals for meat?—?in Wuhan. This reminded experts of the SARS1 epidemic of 2002, in which a bat virus had spread first to civets, an animal sold in wet markets, and from civets to people. A similar bat virus caused a second epidemic, known as MERS, in 2012. This time the intermediary host animal was camels.

The decoding of the virus’s genome showed it belonged a viral family known as beta-coronaviruses, to which the SARS1 and MERS viruses also belong. The relationship supported the idea that, like them, it was a natural virus that had managed to jump from bats, via another animal host, to people. The wet market connection, the major point of similarity with the SARS1 and MERS epidemics, was soon broken: Chinese researchers found earlier cases in Wuhan with no link to the wet market. But that seemed not to matter when so much further evidence in support of natural emergence was expected shortly.

Wuhan, however, is home of the Wuhan Institute of Virology, a leading world center for research on coronaviruses. So the possibility that the SARS2 virus had escaped from the lab could not be ruled out. Two reasonable scenarios of origin were on the table.

From early on, public and media perceptions were shaped in favor of the natural emergence scenario by strong statements from two scientific groups. These statements were not at first examined as critically as they should have been.

“We stand together to strongly condemn conspiracy theories suggesting that COVID-19 does not have a natural origin,” a group of virologists and others wrote in the Lancet on February 19, 2020, when it was really far too soon for anyone to be sure what had happened. Scientists “overwhelmingly conclude that this coronavirus originated in wildlife,” they said, with a stirring rallying call for readers to stand with Chinese colleagues on the frontline of fighting the disease.

Contrary to the letter writers’ assertion, the idea that the virus might have escaped from a lab invoked accident, not conspiracy. It surely needed to be explored, not rejected out of hand. A defining mark of good scientists is that they go to great pains to distinguish between what they know and what they don’t know. By this criterion, the signatories of the Lancet letter were behaving as poor scientists: They were assuring the public of facts they could not know for sure were true.

It later turned out that the Lancet letter had been organized and drafted by Peter Daszak, president of the EcoHealth Alliance of New York. Daszak’s organization funded coronavirus research at the Wuhan Institute of Virology. If the SARS2 virus had indeed escaped from research he funded, Daszak would be potentially culpable. This acute conflict of interest was not declared to the Lancet’s readers. To the contrary, the letter concluded, “We declare no competing interests.”

Virologists like Daszak had much at stake in the assigning of blame for the pandemic. For 20 years, mostly beneath the public’s attention, they had been playing a dangerous game. In their laboratories they routinely created viruses more dangerous than those that exist in nature. They argued that they could do so safely, and that by getting ahead of nature they could predict and prevent natural “spillovers,” the cross-over of viruses from an animal host to people. If SARS2 had indeed escaped from such a laboratory experiment, a savage blowback could be expected, and the storm of public indignation would affect virologists everywhere, not just in China. “It would shatter the scientific edifice top to bottom,” an MIT Technology Review editor, Antonio Regalado, said in March 2020.

A second statement that had enormous influence in shaping public attitudes was a letter (in other words an opinion piece, not a scientific article) published on 17 March 2020 in the journal Nature Medicine. Its authors were a group of virologists led by Kristian G. Andersen of the Scripps Research Institute. “Our analyses clearly show that SARS-CoV-2 is not a laboratory construct or a purposefully manipulated virus,” the five virologists declared in the second paragraph of their letter.

Unfortunately, this was another case of poor science, in the sense defined above. True, some older methods of cutting and pasting viral genomes retain tell-tale signs of manipulation. But newer methods, called “no-see-um” or “seamless” approaches, leave no defining marks. Nor do other methods for manipulating viruses such as serial passage, the repeated transfer of viruses from one culture of cells to another. If a virus has been manipulated, whether with a seamless method or by serial passage, there is no way of knowing that this is the case. Andersen and his colleagues were assuring their readers of something they could not know.

The discussion part of their letter begins, “It is improbable that SARS-CoV-2 emerged through laboratory manipulation of a related SARS-CoV-like coronavirus.” But wait, didn’t the lead say the virus had clearly not been manipulated? The authors’ degree of certainty seemed to slip several notches when it came to laying out their reasoning.

The reason for the slippage is clear once the technical language has been penetrated. The two reasons the authors give for supposing manipulation to be improbable are decidedly inconclusive.

First, they say that the spike protein of SARS2 binds very well to its target, the human ACE2 receptor, but does so in a different way from that which physical calculations suggest would be the best fit. Therefore the virus must have arisen by natural selection, not manipulation.

If this argument seems hard to grasp, it’s because it’s so strained. The authors’ basic assumption, not spelt out, is that anyone trying to make a bat virus bind to human cells could do so in only one way. First they would calculate the strongest possible fit between the human ACE2 receptor and the spike protein with which the virus latches onto it. They would then design the spike protein accordingly (by selecting the right string of amino acid units that compose it). Since the SARS2 spike protein is not of this calculated best design, the Andersen paper says, therefore it can’t have been manipulated.

But this ignores the way that virologists do in fact get spike proteins to bind to chosen targets, which is not by calculation but by splicing in spike protein genes from other viruses or by serial passage. With serial passage, each time the virus’s progeny are transferred to new cell cultures or animals, the more successful are selected until one emerges that makes a really tight bind to human cells. Natural selection has done all the heavy lifting. The Andersen paper’s speculation about designing a viral spike protein through calculation has no bearing on whether or not the virus was manipulated by one of the other two methods.

The authors’ second argument against manipulation is even more contrived. Although most living things use DNA as their hereditary material, a number of viruses use RNA, DNA’s close chemical cousin. But RNA is difficult to manipulate, so researchers working on coronaviruses, which are RNA-based, will first convert the RNA genome to DNA. They manipulate the DNA version, whether by adding or altering genes, and then arrange for the manipulated DNA genome to be converted back into infectious RNA.

Only a certain number of these DNA backbones have been described in the scientific literature. Anyone manipulating the SARS2 virus “would probably” have used one of these known backbones, the Andersen group writes, and since SARS2 is not derived from any of them, therefore it was not manipulated. But the argument is conspicuously inconclusive. DNA backbones are quite easy to make, so it’s obviously possible that SARS2 was manipulated using an unpublished DNA backbone.

And that’s it. These are the two arguments made by the Andersen group in support of their declaration that the SARS2 virus was clearly not manipulated. And this conclusion, grounded in nothing but two inconclusive speculations, convinced the world’s press that SARS2 could not have escaped from a lab. A technical critique of the Andersen letter takes it down in harsher words.

Science is supposedly a self-correcting community of experts who constantly check each other’s work. So why didn’t other virologists point out that the Andersen group’s argument was full of absurdly large holes? Perhaps because in today’s universities speech can be very costly. Careers can be destroyed for stepping out of line. Any virologist who challenges the community’s declared view risks having his next grant application turned down by the panel of fellow virologists that advises the government grant distribution agency.

The Daszak and Andersen letters were really political, not scientific, statements, yet were amazingly effective. Articles in the mainstream press repeatedly stated that a consensus of experts had ruled lab escape out of the question or extremely unlikely. Their authors relied for the most part on the Daszak and Andersen letters, failing to understand the yawning gaps in their arguments. Mainstream newspapers all have science journalists on their staff, as do the major networks, and these specialist reporters are supposed to be able to question scientists and check their assertions. But the Daszak and Andersen assertions went largely unchallenged.

Doubts about natural emergence. Natural emergence was the media’s preferred theory until around February 2021 and the visit by a World Health Organization (WHO) commission to China. The commission’s composition and access were heavily controlled by the Chinese authorities. Its members, who included the ubiquitous Daszak, kept asserting before, during, and after their visit that lab escape was extremely unlikely. But this was not quite the propaganda victory the Chinese authorities may have been hoping for. What became clear was that the Chinese had no evidence to offer the commission in support of the natural emergence theory.

This was surprising because both the SARS1 and MERS viruses had left copious traces in the environment. The intermediary host species of SARS1 was identified within four months of the epidemic’s outbreak, and the host of MERS within nine months. Yet some 15 months after the SARS2 pandemic began, and after a presumably intensive search, Chinese researchers had failed to find either the original bat population, or the intermediate species to which SARS2 might have jumped, or any serological evidence that any Chinese population, including that of Wuhan, had ever been exposed to the virus prior to December 2019. Natural emergence remained a conjecture which, however plausible to begin with, had gained not a shred of supporting evidence in over a year.

And as long as that remains the case, it’s logical to pay serious attention to the alternative conjecture, that SARS2 escaped from a lab.

Why would anyone want to create a novel virus capable of causing a pandemic? Ever since virologists gained the tools for manipulating a virus’s genes, they have argued they could get ahead of a potential pandemic by exploring how close a given animal virus might be to making the jump to humans. And that justified lab experiments in enhancing the ability of dangerous animal viruses to infect people, virologists asserted.

With this rationale, they have recreated the 1918 flu virus, shown how the almost extinct polio virus can be synthesized from its published DNA sequence, and introduced a smallpox gene into a related virus.

These enhancements of viral capabilities are known blandly as gain-of-function experiments. With coronaviruses, there was particular interest in the spike proteins, which jut out all around the spherical surface of the virus and pretty much determine which species of animal it will target. In 2000 Dutch researchers, for instance, earned the gratitude of rodents everywhere by genetically engineering the spike protein of a mouse coronavirus so that it would attack only cats.
The spike proteins on the coronavirus’s surface determine which animal it can infect. Image credit: CDC.gov

Virologists started studying bat coronaviruses in earnest after these turned out to be the source of both the SARS1 and MERS epidemics. In particular, researchers wanted to understand what changes needed to occur in a bat virus’s spike proteins before it could infect people.

Researchers at the Wuhan Institute of Virology, led by China’s leading expert on bat viruses, Shi Zheng-li or “Bat Lady,” mounted frequent expeditions to the bat-infested caves of Yunnan in southern China and collected around a hundred different bat coronaviruses.

Shi then teamed up with Ralph S. Baric, an eminent coronavirus researcher at the University of North Carolina. Their work focused on enhancing the ability of bat viruses to attack humans so as to “examine the emergence potential (that is, the potential to infect humans) of circulating bat CoVs [coronaviruses].” In pursuit of this aim, in November 2015 they created a novel virus by taking the backbone of the SARS1 virus and replacing its spike protein with one from a bat virus (known as SHC014-CoV). This manufactured virus was able to infect the cells of the human airway, at least when tested against a lab culture of such cells.

The SHC014-CoV/SARS1 virus is known as a chimera because its genome contains genetic material from two strains of virus. If the SARS2 virus were to have been cooked up in Shi’s lab, then its direct prototype would have been the SHC014-CoV/SARS1 chimera, the potential danger of which concerned many observers and prompted intense discussion.

“If the virus escaped, nobody could predict the trajectory,” said Simon Wain-Hobson, a virologist at the Pasteur Institute in Paris.

Baric and Shi referred to the obvious risks in their paper but argued they should be weighed against the benefit of foreshadowing future spillovers. Scientific review panels, they wrote, “may deem similar studies building chimeric viruses based on circulating strains too risky to pursue.” Given various restrictions being placed on gain-of function (GOF) research, matters had arrived in their view at “a crossroads of GOF research concerns; the potential to prepare for and mitigate future outbreaks must be weighed against the risk of creating more dangerous pathogens. In developing policies moving forward, it is important to consider the value of the data generated by these studies and whether these types of chimeric virus studies warrant further investigation versus the inherent risks involved.”

That statement was made in 2015. From the hindsight of 2021, one can say that the value of gain-of-function studies in preventing the SARS2 epidemic was zero. The risk was catastrophic, if indeed the SARS2 virus was generated in a gain-of-function experiment.

Inside the Wuhan Institute of Virology. Baric had developed, and taught Shi, a general method for engineering bat coronaviruses to attack other species. The specific targets were human cells grown in cultures and humanized mice. These laboratory mice, a cheap and ethical stand-in for human subjects, are genetically engineered to carry the human version of a protein called ACE2 that studs the surface of cells that line the airways.

Shi returned to her lab at the Wuhan Institute of Virology and resumed the work she had started on genetically engineering coronaviruses to attack human cells. How can we be so sure?

Because, by a strange twist in the story, her work was funded by the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), a part of the US National Institutes of Health (NIH). And grant proposals that funded her work, which are a matter of public record, specify exactly what she planned to do with the money.

The grants were assigned to the prime contractor, Daszak of the EcoHealth Alliance, who subcontracted them to Shi. Here are extracts from the grants for fiscal years 2018 and 2019. (“CoV” stands for coronavirus and “S protein” refers to the virus’s spike protein.)

“Test predictions of CoV inter-species transmission. Predictive models of host range (i.e. emergence potential) will be tested experimentally using reverse genetics, pseudovirus and receptor binding assays, and virus infection experiments across a range of cell cultures from different species and humanized mice.”

China was preparing for a Third World War with biological weapons - including coronavirus - SIX years ago, according to dossier produced by the People's Liberation Army in 2015 and uncovered by the US State Department
By Tom Pyman For Mailonline and Mark Nicol
Published: 02:47 EDT, 8 May 2021 | Updated: 10:00 EDT, 8 May 2021
  • Beijing has considered the military potential of SARS coronaviruses since 2015
  • The bombshell document was accessed by US State Department investigators
  • Scientists examined manipulation of diseases 'in a way never seen before'
  • Foreign affairs committee's Tom Tugendhat says evidence is a 'major concern'

Chinese scientists have been preparing for a Third World War fought with biological and genetic weapons including coronavirus for the last six years, according to a document obtained by US investigators.

The bombshell paper, accessed by the US State Department, insists they will be 'the core weapon for victory' in such a conflict, even outlining the perfect conditions to release a bioweapon, and documenting the impact it would have on 'the enemy's medical system'.

This latest evidence that Beijing considered the military potential of SARS coronaviruses from as early as 2015 has also raised fresh fears over the cause of Covid-19, with some officials still believing the virus could have escaped from a Chinese lab.

The dossier by People's Liberation Army scientists and health officials, details of which were reported in The Australian, examined the manipulation of diseases to make weapons 'in a way never seen before'.

Senior government figures say it 'raises major concerns' over the intentions of those close to Chinese President Xi Jinping amid growing fears about the country's lack of regulation over its activity in laboratories.

The authors of the document insist that a third world war 'will be biological', unlike the first two wars which were described as chemical and nuclear respectively.

Referencing research which suggested the two atomic bombs dropped on Japan forced them to surrender, and bringing about the end of WWII, they claim bioweapons will be 'the core weapon for victory' in a third world war.

The document also outlines the ideal conditions to release a bioweapon and cause maximum damage.

The scientists say such attacks should not be carried out in the middle of a clear day, as intense sunlight can damage the pathogens, while rain or snow can affect the aerosol particles.

Instead, it should be released at night, or at dawn, dusk, or under cloudy weather, with 'a stable wind direction...so that the aerosol can float into the target area'.

Meanwhile, the research also notes that such an attack would result in a surge of patients requiring hospital treatment, which then 'could cause the enemy's medical system to collapse'.

Other concerns include China's 'Gain of Function' research at the Wuhan Institute of Virology - near where the first Covid outbreak was discovered - at which virologists are creating new viruses said to be more transmissible and more lethal.

MP Tom Tugendhat, chairman of the foreign affairs committee, said: 'This document raises major concerns about the ambitions of some of those who advise the top party leadership. Even under the tightest controls these weapons are dangerous.'

Chemical weapons expert Hamish de Bretton-Gordon said: 'China has thwarted all attempts to regulate and police its laboratories where such experimentation may have taken place.'

The revelation from the book What Really Happened in Wuhan was reported yesterday.

The document, New Species of Man-Made Viruses as Genetic Bioweapons, says: 'Following developments in other scientific fields, there have been major advances in the delivery of biological agents.

'For example, the new-found ability to freeze-dry micro-organisms has made it possible to store biological agents and aerosolise them during attacks.'

It has 18 authors who were working at 'high-risk' labs, analysts say.

Australian Strategic Policy Institute executive director Peter Jennings also raised concerns over China's biological research into coronaviruses potentially being weaponised in future.

'There is no clear distinction for research capability because whether it's used offensively or defensively is not a decision these scientists would take,' he said.

'If you are building skills ostensibly to protect your military from a biological attack, you're at the same time giving your military a capacity to use these weapons offensively. You can't separate the two.'

Intelligence agencies suspect Covid-19 may be the result of an inadvertent Wuhan lab leak. But as yet there is no evidence to suggest it was intentionally released.

Only this week, Brazil President Jair Bolsonaro appeared to strongly criticise China by accusing it of creating Covid to spark a chemical 'warfare.'

The comments were made during a press conference on Wednesday as the hardline leader sought to further distance himself from the growing attacks over his domestic handling of a pandemic that has produced the second-highest death toll in the world.

'It's a new virus. Nobody knows whether it was born in a laboratory or because a human ate some animal they shouldn't have,' Bolsonaro said.

'But it is there. The military knows what chemical, bacteriological and radiological warfare. Are we not facing a new war? Which country has grown its GDP the most? I will not tell you.'

While Bolsonaro did not name China in his speech, data from the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development showed that China was the only G20 member whose GDP showed a growth during the pandemic in 2020, expanding by 2.3%.

And the World Health Organization chief said as recently as March that all theories on the origins of Covid-19 remained open after reading the WHO-China study – despite the claim the report dismissed the notion that the virus escaped from a lab as 'extremely unlikely'.

Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said all of the hypotheses are 'on the table' and require further investigation after reading the report from the international experts' mission to Wuhan.

But his comments came just hours after it emerged the report dismissed the lab leak theory and said the transmission of the virus from bats to humans through another animal is the most likely scenario.

The report's release was repeatedly delayed, raising questions about whether the Chinese side was trying to skew the conclusions to prevent blame for the pandemic falling on China.

Critics including ex-President Trump have accused the WHO of parroting Chinese propaganda on the virus since the outbreak was first announced to the world.

The comments by Dr Tedros came after New York Republican Representative Lee Zeldin slammed China for 'covering up to the world the pandemic's origins', while the WHO 'has played along time and time again'.

Meanwhile, Dr Anthony Fauci, President Biden's chief medical adviser, revealed he has 'concerns' over the WHO's controversial fact-finding mission.

Repeated delays in the report's release raised questions about whether the Chinese side was trying to skew its conclusions.

'We've got real concerns about the methodology and the process that went into that report, including the fact that the government in Beijing apparently helped to write it,' U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken said in a recent CNN interview.

China rejected that criticism and accused the US of 'exerting political pressure' on the fact-finding mission experts.

'The US has been speaking out on the report. By doing this, isn't the U.S. trying to exert political pressure on the members of the WHO expert group?' asked Foreign Ministry spokesperson Zhao Lijian.

Here is a video of the reporter at the Australian who broke this story and who has a book coming out in the fall about the topic discussing this report.

Friend of the family just died of a stroke the next day after their 2nd mRNA shot.

I stopped hearing about folks dying from Covid, now it seems to be vaccine related deaths or coincidences for those who are inclined to think that way.

HB,
Thanks for posting the articles. I read the long one...have to finish the rest later. I could feel my blood coming to a boil the more that I read.

All that I can say is this...I pray that these people who have done and are doing these evil things will burn for the lives that they have damaged, ruined and murdered.

Playing around and manipulating genetics of differing species of animals and viruses (to increase GOF) in the name of "saving humanity" from the next big pandemic and then lying and trying to cover their tracks are the signs of psychopaths.

May God have mercy on us and put an end to these who practice such wickedness.

With Kind Regards,

Wyoming Governor Bans Vaccine Passports, Says Vaccines Are ‘Personal Choice, Based Upon Personal Circumstances’

By Cassandra Fairbanks

vaccine passport

Wyoming Governor Mark Gordon has signed a directive banning vaccine passports in his state.

The Republican governor said that vaccines are a “personal choice, based upon personal circumstances.”

“Vaccine passport programs have the potential to politicize a decision that should not be politicized,” Gordon said in a statement. “They would divide our citizens at a time when unity in fighting the virus is essential, and harm those who are medically unable to receive the vaccine.”

His directive tells Wyoming’s cities, towns, counties and private businesses to provide full access to places and services regardless of a person’s vaccine status.

Alabama, Minnesota and South Carolina have also passed “COVID-19 Vaccine Bill of Rights,” which “prohibit mandatory COVID-19 vaccinations and prohibits businesses from requiring any person to receive COVID-19 vaccines.”

Governors in other states including Arkansas, Arizona, Florida, Idaho, Montana, Texas and South Dakota have also issued executive orders prohibiting vaccine passports and requirements.

BIG NEWS: Peer Reviewed Study Demonstrates Efficacy of Ivermectin in Prophylactis and Treatment of COVID — And It Won’t Kill You!

By Jim Hoft
Published May 10, 2021 at 7:40am
covid-2-600x271.jpg

A peer-reviewed study found that ivermectin can end the COVID pandemic. The medicine was found to “significantly reduces the risk of contracting the deadly respiratory disease when used regularly.”

Like hydroxychloroquine the drug is well known to doctors. It has been used as an antiparasitic.

The peer-reviewed study on its effectiveness was published in the American Journal of Therapeutics.

And the good news is that ivermectin won’t kill you!

The The Weather Channel thought this was important enough to publish:
A peer-reviewed research has claimed that global ivermectin use can end the COVID-19 pandemic, as the medicine significantly reduces the risk of contracting the deadly respiratory disease when used regularly.

The common antiparasitic ivermectin is being touted as a miracle cure for COVID-19 by doctors and campaigners the world over.
Peer reviewed by medical experts that included three US government senior scientists and published in the American Journal of Therapeutics, the research is the most comprehensive review of the available data taken from clinical, in vitro, animal, and real-world studies.
Led by the Front Line COVID-19 Critical Care Alliance (FLCCC), a group of medical and scientific experts reviewed published peer-reviewed studies, manuscripts, expert meta-analyses, and epidemiological analyses of regions with ivermectin distribution efforts all showing that ivermectin is an effective prophylaxis and treatment for COVID-19.
“We did the work that the medical authorities failed to do, we conducted the most comprehensive review of the available data on ivermectin,” said Pierre Kory, MD, president and chief medical officer of the FLCCC. “We applied the gold standard to qualify the data reviewed before concluding that ivermectin can end this pandemic.”
A focus of the manuscript was on the 27 controlled trials available in January 2021, 15 of which were randomised controlled trials (RCT’s).

Indian COVID Strain Declared "Global Concern" As Data Show It's Vaccine-Resistant

MONDAY, MAY 10, 2021 - 12:20 PM
During the WHO's Monday press conference, Maria Van Kerkhove, the scientist in charge of the agency's COVID-19 response, declared that COVID-19 variant B.1.617, which was first isolated in India and is believed to be driving that country's brutal second wave, is a "variant of global concern".

There's apparently some new data that's presently being peer-reviewed which shows that B.1.617 is indeed more transmissible than earlier strains of the virus.
"There is some available information to suggest increased transmissibility," Van Kerkhove said.
Though examples of every major mutant strain have been discovered across India, local public health authorities have been growing increasingly concerned about B.1.617, suspecting that the variant strain might be even more infectious than B.1.1.7, the mutant strain otherwise known as "the Kent Strain", after the part of the UK where it was first identified.

Over the weekend, the Indian Express reported that the B.1.617 variant was been found to be driving much of the spread in the outbreak in Odisha, comprising roughly 50% of cases reported. Interestingly, not a single sample of the UK variant B.1.1.7 or the triple-mutant B.1.618 (which was recently found to be more prevalent in West Bengal) has been found in Odisha, suggesting that the original India strain is spreading the fastest.

B.1.617 is also the dominant variant in India’s hardest-hit state, Maharashtra.
Dr. Kerkhove explained that the WHO's data appears to support the conclusion that B.1.617 is not only more infectious, but also resistant to vaccinations, as a surprising number of patients who have already been fully vaccinated have been found to be infected with the strain.

Meanwhile, shortly after the press conference concluded, the FT reported that a new study showing that B.1.617 has "modest ability" to avoid antibodies elicited by the Pfizer jab, though an extensive vaccination campaign is likely to reduce transmissions, a study has found. The B.1.6.1.7 variant, one version of which was elevated to a "variant of concern" by Public Health England last week, first emerged in the state of Maharashtra in late 2020 or early 2021 and has spread throughout India and to at least 40 countries.

The variant includes mutations that appear to make it more transmissible and less susceptible to vaccines than the virus that first emerged in Wuhan last year.
One such mutation "confers partial evasion" of antibodies generated by the Pfizer vaccine, according to a paper — which has yet to be peer-reviewed — but is set to be published this week by researchers from India, South Africa, Japan and the UK.

Ravindra Gupta, professor of clinical microbiology at the University of Cambridge and one of the study’s authors, told a press conference on Monday the variant discovered in India has mutations that "enable immune escape" and that "we should be assuming it’s as transmissible" as the one first identified in the UK. To be sure, the vaccines "will still protect against severe disease,” he added.

While it might not seem like it at first, this is actually good news for Pfizer. Though it's definitely bad news for humanity.

MONDAY, MAY 10, 2021 - 05:50 PM
Authored by Michael Brendan Dougherty via NationalReview.com,

You probably know someone who never got COVID but whose whole life was transformed by the pandemic; it now has a meaning.

They were the most cautious, the most locked down, the most disgusted by “deniers” in the White House or in their extended family.

They didn’t see their adult parents for over a year. They refused in-person-learning options for their kids.

The pandemic warped their relationship to their neighbors, whom they now treated as vectors of disease, and even as moral cretins because they did yard work without a mask.

They posted their second “Fauci ouchie” on Instagram a month ago.

But they are still double-masking or even putting goggles on their children, even infants, because they read something about COVID spreading through their eyes.

CDC Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky speaks before the House Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Crisis on Capitol Hill, April 15, 2021. (Amr Alfiky/Pool via Reuters)

At some point, the pandemic - the provisional and practical judgments in favor of caution that can justify restrictive behaviors - became an unshakeable moral purpose. Actual weighing of risks went out the window: There’s a deadly disease out there; my actions can contribute to the end of the disease or to its spreading in perpetuity.

It’s as if a circuit has been fused. While caution and restrictive behavior can be justified by a conscience informed by the risks, the human mind can also make calculations based on superstition. And one frighteningly common one is the equation of science with truth, fear with realism, and caution with virtue.

In individuals, we can easily observe these sorts of calculations, with personal tragedies large and small: people who missed out on one last comforting grasp of the hands before a loved one died, or whose marriages were wrecked by the atmosphere of fear and paranoia. But the problem is clearly social as well as political.

Once the truth-caution-virtue circuit was fused, we found it much harder to introduce good news and new information. We lost the capacity to acknowledge the provisional nature of our judgments. The fact that a huge portion of the vulnerable population in America has been vaccinated — in many counties well over 70 percent of people 65 and older are now fully vaccinated —doesn’t change behavior as fast as the news about the virus altered our behavior last spring.

This is made worse because the “costs” of much mitigating behavior are mostly diffuse. They are in the depressed business environment for entertainment, food, and tourism. Or we see them in the heightened levels of depression that people experience because of prolonged social isolation. Many people who had the financial option of making their lockdown super-tight simply don’t go out enough to realize how free and sociable most people in their community have been. They have become unused to the risks and the pleasures of life that the less fearful or the more essential workers never could get away from.

And this faulty equivalence of truth, fear, and caution doesn’t afflict only individuals or the environment of major cities. It afflicts our institutions. It is why the Centers for Disease Control can get bullied by the teachers’ union into delaying its recommendation to fully reopen schools. The teachers’ unions have no public-health expertise, no special knowledge of epidemiology. What they had on their side was a pervasive reflex that more caution can never be wrong or harmful.

The association of danger with permissiveness has warped the “expert class” that is supposed to inform the public. Throughout the pandemic, public-health officials have betrayed their view that they do not trust the public with good news; they seem to fear that an inch given will be a mile taken. And so, even during one of the most successful vaccine rollouts in the world, CDC director Rochelle Walensky warned of “impending doom” just a month ago. But no doom was in the offing.

And the expert class has also corrupted itself. The short circuit of the pandemic has led to a dramatic tightening of groupthink among public-health pundits. One would normally expect that a variety of experts would come up with a variety of recommendations, precisely because, like everyone else, they value the risks differently. But instead, public-health pontificators have tried to guard their authority with an ersatz sheen of unanimity.

When Dr. Martin Kulldorff expressed his view that the pause of Johnson & Johnson’s vaccine would do more harm than good, the CDC threw him off its vaccine-safety advisory committee. Four days later, Johnson & Johnson’s vaccine was made available again, but the visible dissent was too much to abide.

Kulldorff had pioneered many of the processes by which the CDC detects the safety of vaccines. But he had expressed his view that the urge to vaccinate everyone was as superstitious as being anti-vaccine. Twitter, preposterously, put a misinformation tag on this tweet, based on the superstition that there is only one valid “expert” answer — and no valid debates among experts. Kulldorff’s worst crime, apparently, was expressing his views in person in the presence of Governor Ron DeSantis of Florida.

I used to think that the COVID era would snap to a close once vaccines removed the danger from the most vulnerable — and that the human urge to connect would assert itself dramatically in a new roaring ’20s. Now I’m not so sure. A significant portion of the public and some of our leading institutions have internalized entirely new habits of thought and life. The circuit between truth, science, fear, and caution and virtue needs to be unwired — and reprogrammed.

EXCLUSIVE: The Massive Infiltration of U.S. Virus Research by China’s Military

By Joe Hoft
Published May 11, 2021 at 9:26am

by Lawrence Sellin and Anna Chen

The following is one example of a much larger problem, not just at this institution, but all across the United States involving billions of taxpayer dollars in knowledge, skills and research grants being fed into China’s virus research laboratories, no doubt, some going to its biowarfare program.

The University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) in Galveston is a major virus research center heavily funded by the National Institutes of Health, especially Dr. Anthony Fauci’s National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases.

In August 2020, UTMB was designated by Anthony Fauci as one of the ten Centers for Research in Emerging Infectious Diseases and newly funded by a NIAID grant totaling $82 million.

Perhaps not coincidentally, Fauci also designated Peter Daszak’s EcoHealth Alliance, a long-time collaborator with the Wuhan Institute of Virology, as another Center for Research in Emerging Infectious Diseases, awarding it $7.5 million.

UTMB is also the home of the Department of Defense-funded Center for Biodefense and Emerging Infectious Diseases.

UTMB has one of the few Biosafety Level 4 facilities for containing and conducting research on the world’s most dangerous viruses.

One does not need to dig very deeply to find that UTMB has been infiltrated by scientists of People’s Liberation Army, some believed to be linked to China’s biowarfare program.

This is happening right now, not something that happened ten years ago.

Case in point using a single COVID-19 scientific article published on January 20, 2021:

“Ubiquitination of SARS-CoV-2 ORF7a promotes antagonism of interferon response” authored by Zengguo Cao, Hongjie Xia, Ricardo Rajsbaum, Xianzhu Xia, Hualei Wang and Pei-Yong Shi.

Pei-Yong-Shi.jpg

The senior author, Pei-Yong Shi, was trained in the People’s Republic of China and now is a Professor in the Department of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology at UTMB. Since 2007, he has been an Honorary Professor at the Wuhan Institute of Virology.

The first author, Zengguo Cao, who works with Pei-Yong Shi at UTMB, lists another affiliation, the Key Laboratory of Zoonosis Research, Ministry of Education, College of Veterinary Medicine, Jilin University, Changchun, China.
Zengguo Cao leaves out the fact that he works at the People’s Liberation Army’s Military Veterinary Research Institute.

The second author, Hongjie Xia, who also works with Pei-Yong Shi at UTMB, collaborated with Chinese military scientists while working at Wuhan University.

The fourth and fifth authors, Xianzhu Xia and Hualei Wang are both associated with the People’s Liberation Army’s Military Veterinary Research Institute.

It is critical to note, that the People’s Liberation Army’s Military Veterinary Research Institute is believed to be an important component of China’s biowarfare program, led by veterinary General Jin Ningyi.

China-Virologists-and-Military.jpg

A PLA scientist working under General Jin Ningyi, Biao He, was a key member of the team, which isolated and characterized bat coronaviruses ZC45 and ZXC21, claimed by Chinese whistleblower Dr. Limeng Yan to be the backbone of the laboratory-created COVID-19 virus.

What has been described above is only a tiny part of the massive infiltration of U.S. virus research programs by China’s military.

To be continued.

Rand Paul Rips Into Dr. Fauci About Funding the Wuhan Virology Institute Lab – Arrogant Fauci Hits Back! (VIDEO)

By Cristina Laila
Published May 11, 2021 at 11:07am
IMG_0976.jpg

The Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee held a hearing on the efforts to combat COVID-19 on Tuesday.

Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) ripped into Dr. Fauci on Tuesday about funding the Wuhan lab.

Since May 2020, The Gateway Pundit has been reporting on Dr. Anthony Fauci’s likely illegal funding of coronavirus projects at the Wuhan Virology Center.

It is clear that they successfully isolated the coronavirus in the lab and were actively experimenting with species-to-species transmission.

It’s also important to note that back in 2017 we had solid intelligence about a viral leak in a high-security Chinese virology R&D center that resulted in the SARS virus getting out and killing people.

In May 2020, TGP reported this: The leader of the US task force overseeing the country’s response to the China coronavirus, Dr. Tony Fauci, was the one who funded the Wuhan bat virus work and kept it going.

Last month Washington Post columnist Josh Rogan said Fauci needs to provide answers about his involvement with the Wuhan lab.

“Dr. Fauci and the National Institutes of Health were responsible for using taxpayer dollars for gain of function research, to weaponize viruses to make them more contagious and more deadly.” he said.

Rand Paul confronted Fauci on Tuesday: “Dr. Fauci, do you still support funding of the NIH funding of the lab in Wuhan?”

Arrogant Fauci shot back at the Kentucky lawmaker: “Senator Paul, with all due respect, you are entirely and completely incorrect that the NIH has not ever and does not now fund gain of function research in the Wuhan institute.”

Rand Paul would not back down and really got under Fauci’s skin!

Bombshell Report Reveals CDC Risk of Covid Transmission Outdoors Greatly Exaggerated

By Cristina Laila
Published May 11, 2021 at 11:55am
CDC.jpeg

A bombshell report from the New York Times revealed the CDC greatly exaggerated the risk of Covid transmission while outdoors.

According to the NY Times, the 10% transmission rate was based “partly on a misclassification” of some transmission in Singapore in a setting with a mix of indoors and outdoors.

The real outdoor transmission rate is 1% or less!

“There are limited data on outdoor transmission,” a CDC official told the Times.

“The data we do have supports the hypothesis that the risk of outdoor transmission is low. 10 percent is a conservative estimate from a recent systematic review of peer-reviewed papers. CDC cannot provide the specific risk level for every activity in every community and errs on the side of protection when it comes to recommending steps to protect health. It is important for people and communities to consider their own situations and risks and to take appropriate steps to protect their health.”

Senator Susan Collins confronted CDC Director Rochelle Walensky about the report and said it is yet another example of conflicting guidance coming out of the agency Tuesday during a hearing.

“The topline result was less than 10%, published in the Journal of Infectious Diseases, one of our top infectious disease journals,” Walensky said. “That is where that came from, it was from a published study that synthesized studies from many places.”

Susan Collins said she doesn’t trust the CDC anymore.

Dozens more bodies have washed up on the banks of the Ganges in northern India as the country struggles with a second Covid wave.

More than 50 bodies have been discovered in Gahmar, Uttar Pradesh over the past few days.

On Monday, at least 40 bodies were pulled from the river some 55km (34 miles) downstream from Gahmar.

How the bodies got there is unclear, but it is thought they are Covid-19 victims. Their identities are unknown.

On Tuesday, a local journalist told BBC Hindi that bodies have been washing up on embankments in the village of Gahmar for several days.

Locals claimed they had been complaining about the smell for the past few days but authorities had only taken action upon hearing the news about the bodies found downstream in the state of Bihar on Monday.

Police in Gahmar have been pulling bodies out of the river with sticks. About 25-30 heavily decomposed bodies have been pulled out and buried since midnight.

More here, pretty grim:

Gov. DeSantis Files Lawsuit Against CDC For Economic Damage To Florida Businesses
May 10, 2021

Written by Martin Walsh
OPINION: This article contains commentary which reflects the author's opinion

Florida Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis is going after the Biden administration directly this week.

DeSantis has filed a lawsuit against the Centers for Disease Control in federal court that aims to hold the CDC accountable for inflicting economic damage to Florida businesses with draconian lockdown measures.

“But I can tell you this, our state was predicted to get hit worse on Covid economically than any other state because of our service economy and our tourism base,” DeSantis said.

“And what we were able to do by keeping Florida open, we saved hundreds of thousands of jobs in the restaurant, hotel, hospitality industry. We saved thousands of businesses,” he continued.

DeSantis declared: “You know how I know that? Because every time I go out, someone will come up to me and say, ‘Thank you for saving my job,’ or ‘Thank you for saving my business.’ So we’ve been able now with 4.7 percent unemployment, that’s significantly less than the national average of 6% and way less than lockdown states like New York and California have.”

“So we’re doing it right. We obviously want to make sure those folks are able to succeed in terms of getting the people they need, but just think of where we could be. I mean, this is a good problem to have compared to seeing people — in some parts of the country, these businesses are dead,” he continued.

“They’re never coming back. This is the heavy hand of the government crushing family businesses, ruining jobs, and destroying millions of people’s lives. We chose another path in Florida; it was the right path; it was the successful path, and yes, we want to make sure that these things are — there are actually restaurants that have to close one day a week because they don’t have enough folks,” he said.

“So that is fundamentally unfair,” he continued.

“It makes no sense and we are suing the CDC right now. We have a hearing coming up in federal court. But I can tell you, I want the cruises going. I want the cruise ships going; I think it’s vital for our economy. There are tens of thousands of folks that are impacted by this issue,” he declared.

“When we announced the lawsuit in Miami, I’ll never forget it,” DeSantis added.
“We had a bunch of folks behind me, kind of like this, but they were all people who worked in the industry, and not just worked for the cruise lines. You have all these smaller businesses that support this industry, and one of the ladies went up there. She said, ‘You know, we were told two weeks. It was hard for us, but we were there. We wanted to do our part.’ Here we are a year later. And she’s like ‘You know, there’s been a lot of toll in our community because of Covid. We’ve had a lot of deaths, but they’re not deaths from Covid. They’re deaths from despair’,” he said.

DeSantis also specifically blamed the CDC for making decisions based on politics and not science.

“This has implications for potentially any industry and look, with all due respect to the CDC, I mean if you look at some of the stuff that they’ve done on school openings, where they’re basically doing the teacher’s union’s bidding when they say these kids should be masked in summer camp outdoors,” the governor said.

“I’m sorry, that’s not science, that’s politics.”

Florida Parents Scorch Seminole County School Board Over Mask Mandate

By The Scoop
Published May 12, 2021 at 8:15pm

Tuesday night’s Seminole County School Board meeting was a scorching debate over face mask requirements for children.

The Seminole School district has decided to vote on repealing the mask mandate next month while many parents are demanding for it to be repealed now.

One parent stood at the podium to say, “You think holding our children hostage to these mask mandates, which have been proven to be ineffective to prevent COVID, time and time again, is helping your case to keep our students in a hostage situation where it seems your only concern is the teachers union? Yeah, I said it! Teachers union! That’s who you guys are protecting. Then force masks on them!”

Leslie Kirshenbaum who stood at the podium also noted how Chick-Fil-A ended their mask policies for employees and the University of Florida ending their mask policy that was effective immediately.

“We voted you in. We thought you would have the best interest of our children, but it seems you’re playing politics instead. It’s no secret you don’t work for us, but for the teachers union. You’re supposed to do what’s right by our children. So protect them by taking these masks off! And as a requirement, let them be a choice,” Kirshenbaum continued.

During that meeting, a woman was asked to leave after questioning a Superintendent if he was vaccinated which he thought was inappropriate according to footage posted by Fox 35 on Twitter.

Another parent, Jessica Tillman also stated to the board, “We have repeatedly provided you with research articles, data, and information that clearly states children should not be masked. You continue to ignore all of it. This policy has nothing to do with kids’ health. It’s based on irrational fear. Our governor has provided you with data, recommendations, and research offered by credible sources and you ignore it with no explanation of why. Our governor is now suing the CDC for their masking children recommendations.”

“So where is your support, data, and research that you are using to continue making our children? Continuance and false sense of security are neglectful excuses to keep this in place. The Commissioner of the Florida Department of Education sent you a letter stating there was no difference in data for districts with or without a mandate. It is shameful that you refuse to discuss this policy with any supporting details or data and turn a blind eye to actual facts and research. You allow teachers who have been fully vaccinated for months to continue to wear a mask and a face shield, fear-mongering, healthy children,” Tillman questioned.

“The tide is turning against coronavirus-restricting measures in Central Florida’s public schools. Both Volusia and Seminole County started the process of ending their mask mandates for students and faculty this week. At the same time, Orange County Public Schools axed an online education program that had kept kids out of in-person schools through the pandemic,” Orlando Weekly reported.

The outlet also found that Seminole Country decided after the long debate, they will start on the path towards ending the mask mandate. The school board is required to wait 28 days before voting on ‘an eventual repeal of their mask policy.’

“Many in the audience, while in favor of removing the mandate, told WESH 2 News they didn’t think the school board went far enough,” reported by WESH.

“They’re voting yes, but it’s not going to benefit the children for the remaining days of school, and I think that it’s a cop out,” one parent told the outlet.

Published online 2020 Mar 6.

Abstract

Tissue engineering is a promising strategy for the repair and regeneration of damaged tissues or organs. Biomaterials are one of the most important components in tissue engineering. Recently, magnetic hydrogels, which are fabricated using iron oxide-based particles and different types of hydrogel matrices, are becoming more and more attractive in biomedical applications by taking advantage of their biocompatibility, controlled architectures, and smart response to magnetic field remotely. In this literature review, the aim is to summarize the current development of magnetically sensitive smart hydrogels in tissue engineering, which is of great importance but has not yet been comprehensively viewed.

Introduction

Tissue engineering, a branch of regenerative medicine, refers to the application of supporting cells, material scaffolds, bioactive molecules, or their combinations to repair and reconstruct tissues and organs. Hydrogels have been shown to be one of the most applicable biomaterials in tissue engineering (Kabu et al., 2015; Madl et al., 2017, 2019; Deng et al., 2019) mainly attributed to their inner 3D network microstructures, moderate biocompatibility, and good water content feature, which are analogous with those of the natural tissue (Cui Z.K. et al., 2019; Zhu et al., 2019). Meanwhile, hydrogel-based drug delivery systems for numerous therapeutic agents, with high water content, low interfacial tension with biological fluids, and soft consistency, have been shown to be more stable, economical, and efficient in comparison with conventional delivery systems (Li and Mooney, 2016; Moore and Hartgerink, 2017; Cheng et al., 2019; Fan et al., 2019; Zheng et al., 2019). Considering the above advantages, hydrogels have been conducted into the biomedical application to provide a tunable three-dimensional scaffold for cell adhesion, migration, and/or differentiation, and they could also be designed as the platform for the controlled release of cytokines and drugs in tissue engineering and drug delivery (Huang et al., 2017; Jiang et al., 2017; Hsu et al., 2019; Wei et al., 2019; Zheng et al., 2019).

Hydrogel first appeared in a literature as early as in 1894 (Van Bemmelen, 1894); however, the “hydrogel” described at that time was not the same form of hydrogels used nowadays; it was a type of a colloidal gel made from inorganic salts. Later on, the term “hydrogel” was applied for describing a 3D network of hydrophilic native polymers and gums by physical or chemical crosslinking approaches, and its application heavily relied on water availability in the environment (Lee et al., 2013). The current generation of hydrogel in the biological field was first performed by Wichterle and LÍm (1960), indicating that glycoldimethacrylate-based hydrophilic gels exhibited adjustable mechanical properties and water content. From then on, more and more hydrogels have been developed, and the smart hydrogels were then introduced in different fields of biological science, such as drug delivery, bioseparation, biosensor, and tissue engineering. Smart hydrogels are described as they respond directly to the changes of environmental conditions (Wichterle and LÍm, 1960), and numerous studies of smart hydrogels in the applications of nanotechnology, drug delivery, and tissue engineering have been put into effect in the last few decades (Li X. et al., 2019; Li Z. et al., 2019; Zhang Y. et al., 2019).

Recently, magnetically responsive hydrogel, as one kind of smart hydrogels, has been introduced into biomedical applications in improving the biological activities of cells, tissues, or organs. This is mainly attributed to its magnetic responsiveness to external magnetic field and obtaining functional structures to remotely regulate physical, biochemical, and mechanical properties of the milieu surrounding the cells, tissues, or organs (Abdeen et al., 2016; Antman-Passig and Shefi, 2016; Rodkate and Rutnakornpituk, 2016; Bannerman et al., 2017; Omidinia-Anarkoli et al., 2017; Xie et al., 2017; Silva et al., 2018; Tay et al., 2018; Wang et al., 2018; Bowser and Moore, 2019; Ceylan et al., 2019; Luo et al., 2019). Recent studies have represented that magnetic hydrogel could act as an excellent drug release and targeting system. For example, Gao et al. (2019) fabricated a magnetic hydrogel based on ferromagnetic vortex-domain iron oxide and suggested that this unique magnetic hydrogel could significantly suppress the local breast tumor recurrences. Manjua et al. (2019) developed magnetic responsive poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) hydrogels, which could be motivated by ON/OFF magnetic field and non-invasively regulated protein sorption and motility, indicating a promising application for tissue engineering, drug delivery, or biosensor system. Moreover, a composite magnetic hydrogel prepared by a combination of a self-healing chitosan/alginate hydrogel and magnetic gelatin microspheres could be used as a suitable platform for tissue engineering and drug delivery (Chen X. et al., 2019a). In comparison with magnetic hydrogels, various kinds of smart biomaterials (e.g., scaffolds, biofilms, other smart hydrogels), which are activated by external stimuli, such as light, pH, temperature, stress, or charge, have great potential in biomedical applications (Chen H. et al., 2019; Cui L. et al., 2019; Wu C. et al., 2019; Zhao et al., 2019; Yang et al., 2020). However, the long response time and less precisely controlled architectures of these stimuli-responsive smart biomaterials are the two main limitations.

Magnetic hydrogels are usually made of a matrix hydrogel and a magnetic component that was incorporated into the matrix. Recently, superparamagnetic and biocompatible iron oxide-based magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs) are most commonly incorporated into polymer matrices to prepare magnetically responsive hydrogels for their application in tissue engineering, such as γ-Fe2O3, Fe3O4, and cobalt ferrite nanoparticles (CoFe2O4) (Zhang and Song, 2016; Rose et al., 2017; Ceylan et al., 2019). Magnetite (Fe3O4) is a compound of two kinds of iron sites with 1/3 of Fe2+ and 2/3 of Fe3+. The intervalence charge transfer between Fe2+ and Fe3+ induces absorption throughout the ultraviolet–visible spectral region and the infrared spectral region, which generates a black appearance in color (Barrow et al., 2017). Maghemite (γ-Fe2O3), with a brown-orange color pattern, is an oxidative product of magnetite (Fe3O4) when the temperature is below 200°C (Tang et al., 2003). In terms of CoFe2O4, previous studies have shown that the concentration of 20% was toxic, whereas at 10% the toxicity was insignificant. Moreover, 10% (w/w) of CoFe2O4 could maximize magnetic response because of numerous amounts of nanoparticles, developing biocompatible biomaterials (Goncalves et al., 2015; Brito-Pereira et al., 2018). For example, Hermenegildo et al. (2019) designed a novel CoFe2O4/Methacrylated Gellan Gum/poly(vinylidene fluoride) hydrogel, which created a promising microenvironment for tissue stimulation.

In this literature review, we aim to summarize the preparation methods and current development of magnetically sensitive smart hydrogels in tissue engineering, especially in bone, cartilage, and neural tissue engineering, which are of great importance but have not yet been comprehensively reviewed.

Applications in Other Organs

Besides the bone, cartilage, and nerve organs, magnetic hydrogels are also introduced into other organs, such as the heart, skin, and muscle, in order to evaluate the therapeutic potential. Namdari and Eatemadi (2017) designed a magnetic hydrogel by dissolving Fe3O4 and curcumin into the N-isopropylacrylamide-methacrylic acid (NIPAAM-MAA) hydrogel. The resulting magnetic hydrogel nanocomposite was able to reduce the doxorubicin-induced cardiac toxicity and hold the cardioprotective capability. Cezar et al. (2016) fabricated a ferrogel scaffold by using RGD peptides modified alginate and iron oxide. The magnetic ferrogel showed fatigue resistance and in combination with magnetic stimulation (6,510 Gauss, 5 min at 1 Hz every 12 h) could mechanically activate and promote severely injured muscle tissue regeneration. Rose et al. (2018) developed a magnetic hybrid hydrogel by blending the MNPs into the Gly-Arg-Gly-Asp-Ser-Pro-Cys (GRGDSPC) modified six-arm-PEG gel for fibroblast alignment, which is crucial for the wound healing.

Injectable Magnetic Hydrogel's Application in Tissue Engineering

Recently, the magnetic hydrogels as injectable systems have displayed great potential for tissue repair and magnetic drug targeting. Various kinds of cells and molecules can be encapsulated homogeneously into the magnetic hydrogels and then targeted to the pathological sites with minimal invasiveness (Wu et al., 2018; Chen X. et al., 2019b; Shi et al., 2019; Wu H. et al., 2019; Xu et al., 2019). Several polymers, including ionic-response polymers (e.g., sodium alginate), natural biocompatible polymers (e.g., chitosan), and synthetic polymers (e.g., polyacrylic acid), conjugated with the magnetic particles have been used to fabricate the injectable hydrogels for therapeutic applications (Jalili et al., 2017; Hu et al., 2018; Amini-Fazl et al., 2019). These magnetic hydrogels could be guided to the diseased sites via external magnetic fields and exert a drug release influence there. Meanwhile, this kind of magnetic hydrogel is mainly targeted for the cancer therapy due to the hyperthermia effect under the applied magnetic field.

The Metabolism of Magnetic Particles From the Magnetic Biomaterials

Although numerous studies have shown that magnetic biomaterials exhibited biocompatibility both in vitro and in vivo, the cytotoxicity and long-term fate of magnetic particles embedded within the magnetic hydrogels in vivo must be taken for consideration. No identical criteria have been made to evaluate this important issue of magnetic hydrogels since the fabrication process and physicochemical properties vary in many aspects. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in the United States had approved several MNPs in the clinical applications, such as the treatment of anemia caused by chronic kidney disease and the magnetic resonance imaging, and these MNPs could be removed quickly by the liver (Laconte et al., 2005; Ventola, 2017). The clearance of magnetic particles in vivo depends on the size of the particle. In detail, particles smaller than 5.5 nm could be removed quickly through the kidney (Sun et al., 2008), particles up to 200 nm could be sequestered by phagocytes of the spleen (Chen and Weiss, 1973), and particles larger than 5 μm could be cleared via the lymphatic system (Arruebo et al., 2007). In addition, magnetic fields have proven to control the anisotropic feature, constitution, and the degradation rate in the magnetic hydrogels (Huang J. et al., 2018; Silva et al., 2018). All these factors are crucial for the released amounts of magnetic particles from the magnetic constructs and the impact on organs. More efforts are needed to develop more controllable magnetic hydrogels for in vivo applications.

Conclusions and Perspectives

The magnetically responsive smart hydrogels have emerged as an immensely potential biomaterial for developing bioaligned actuators. Benefiting from their intriguing features, including but not limited to quick response, mimetic native tissues, appealing mechanical properties, and biocompatibility, magnetic hydrogels have undergone unparalleled advances in biomedical fields, such as bone, cartilage, nerve, heart, muscle tissue engineering, and so on. However, the properties of magnetic particles, such as size, shape, composition, crystallinity, and so on, should be further modified in order to avoid overheating when cell-laden hydrogels are assembled. Meanwhile, the hydrogel matrices used in magnetic hydrogels need to be further evaluated by mimicking the native architectures of tissues and organs, which holds great potential for the preclinical treatment. Therefore, combined strategies should be developed to create more and more smart hydrogels in tissue engineering (Figure 8).

Future perspectives should focus on dealing with the existing difficulties. In addition, more attention should be taken into consideration in evaluating the magnetic hydrogels' pharmacokinetics/toxicokinetics, metabolism, biodegradation in vivo, and so on, which are of great significance in the applications of tissue engineering.

JUST IN: CDC Says Fully Vaccinated People Don’t Have to Wear Face Masks Indoors

By Cristina Laila

The CDC announced on Thursday that fully vaccinated people don’t have to wear masks indoors.

“If you are fully vaccinated, you are protected, and you can start doing the things that you stopped doing because of the pandemic,” CDC Director Rochelle Walensky will say at a White House press briefing, according to the Associated Press.

Under the new guidance, people will still be required to wear masks in ‘crowded’ public places such as planes, buses, hospitals, prisons etc.
It is unclear how businesses are going to differentiate between vaccinated and unvaccinated people.

According to the White House, more than 154 million Americans, or approximately 46% of the population have received at least their first dose of the Covid vaccine.

Some businesses are requiring their employees to wear a blue wristband to prove they have been vaccinated.

Immunaband company introduced new blue silicone wristbands that will carry your Covid vax card information. The company is hoping this will catch on and that Americans will rush to purchase their wristband to let others know you’ve been vaccinated.

These wristbands will do until the microchips are rolled out and made mandatory.

BOOM! Senator Rand Paul: “Dr. Fauci Could be Culpable for the Entire Pandemic” (VIDEO)

By Jim Hoft

On Tuesday the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee held a hearing on the efforts to combat COVID-19.

As Cristina reported earlier, Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) ripped into Dr. Fauci about funding the Wuhan laboratory in Wuhan, China.

In May 2020, TGP reported this: The leader of the US task force overseeing the country’s response to the China coronavirus, Dr. Tony Fauci, was the one who funded the Wuhan bat virus work and kept it going.

** The video is here.

Tuesday night on Rob Schmitt Tonight Senator Rand Paul responded to Dr. Fauci’s statements from today’s hearing.
Senator Paul rightfully accused Dr. Fauci of being dishonest while under oath.

rand-paul-fox-and-friends.jpg

On Thursday morning Senator Paul took things one step further accusing Dr. Tony Fauci of potentially being culpable for the entire pandemic!
WOW!

Senator Paul:
It’s even worse than your point out. The person they hired to investigate the lab for the WHO perspective is the guy who gave the money. So NIH gave the money to EcoHealth. The head of EcoHealth – they got him to investigate whether Wuhan was doing anything inappropriate in their lab. But if they were then wouldn’t he be culpable? Doesn’t he have a self interest in smoothing things over. I’m not saying he did cover things up but you wouldn’t appoint someone who is in the line of the supply chain of giving the money to them. Ultimately here’s the rub. I don’t know whether it came from the lab. But who could be culpable? Dr. Fauci could be culpable for the entire pandemic!

Commanding General at Fort Campbell Issues New Guidelines – Unvaccinated Soldiers Cannot Take Pass or Leave Base – Considered Non-Deployable

By Jim Hoft

Recently, Commanding General MG JP McGee issued new guidelines for unvaccinated soldiers of the 101st Airborne Division during a virtual town hall Tuesday night.

As of today, unvaccinated soldiers can not take a pass and can not take Leave (which is earned from time served). And, according to our source, unvaccinated soldiers are now considered non-deployable.

Previous to this, there was a 20 mile restriction on pass and leave policy. From our source, “This is essentially taking any choice away from soldiers who have sworn an oath to protect and defend this great country. Absolutely embarrassing how they handle something like this.”

Clarksville Now reported:

In a livestreamed town hall event, Maj. Gen. McGee announced that soldiers choosing to remain unvaccinated should not “not consider things business as usual,” when making travel plans this summer.

“It would be irresponsible of me to allow soldiers to travel unvaccinated throughout the United States and bring that back and have an impact on our soldiers, their families and our overall operational readiness. I’m sure that’s not gonna be a popular decision for some, and that’s quite alright,” McGee said.

McGee said he and his staff are considering a range of options, including limited range of travel and increased reporting requirements for soldiers; however, no final decisions have been made as to restrictions.

Soldiers who are fully vaccinated should expect more freedom of travel, according to McGee’s update.

CDC recommends fully vaccinated people no longer have to wear mask indoors or outdoors

The mask recommends come with few exceptions including in hospitals, planes and prisons.

By Joseph Weber
Updated: May 13, 2021 - 2:21pm

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced Thursday that fully vaccinated people no longer have to wear a COVID mask indoors or outdoors, with a few exceptions.

The changes comes after roughly a year of people in the U.S. – and around the world – wearing a mask to prevent the spread of the virus, which has killed over 3.3 million people worldwide since first detected and reported out of China in late-2019, early-2020.

The CDC changes comes amid a worldwide vaccination program in which roughly 35 percent of the U.S. population has been fully vaccinated.

"Anyone who is fully vaccinated can participate in indoor and outdoor activities, no mater how large or small, without a mask," CDC Director Rochelle Walensky said in announcing the changes. "This an exciting and powerful moment."

The agency said in announcing the changes that 250 million Americans have now been vaccinated.

The exceptions will be in such places as hospitals, planes and prisons.

House Republicans introduce bill to fire Dr. Fauci
NEWS

House Republicans introduced a bill Wednesday to set term limits on appointees to direct the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, which would effectively fire top White House chief medical adviser Dr. Anthony Fauci.

The bill, titled the "Fauci's Incompetence Requires Early Dismissal (FIRED) Act, was introduced by Rep. Warren Davidson (R-Ohio) and co-sponsored by several House conservatives including Reps. Chip Roy (R-Texas), Andy Biggs (R-Ariz.), and Ralph Norman (R-S.C.). It would set a retroactive 12-year term limit on the NIAID director, a position held by Fauci since 1984.

Should it become law, Fauci would be forced to leave his job.

"In the wake of massive missteps by Dr. Fauci and his subordinates in the handling of the coronavirus pandemic, this bill addresses an oft-overlooked issue: The lack of accountability for unelected bureaucrats," a press statement from Davidson's office reads.

"Under Dr. Fauci's guidance, Americans have lost confidence in the National Institutes of Health and the Centers for Disease Control, leading to confusion and serious government overreach that has threatened Americans' livelihoods and freedoms. Despite successful treatment therapies, a historic vaccination development, and decreasing cases, Dr. Fauci has continued to advise healthy, low-risk Americans to continue to act as if the pandemic were out of control — after overseeing nearly a year of draconian public health policies that have decimated the U.S. economy," the statement said.

"Dr. Fauci represents everything that President Eisenhower warned us about in his farewell address: The scientific-technical elite steering the country toward their own ends," Davison said. "Americans have had decades of Dr. Fauci's leadership, and he publicly failed to respond appropriately to the COVID-19 pandemic. It is time for him to step aside so that new leadership can 'follow the science' and start reopening America.'"

The bill has no chance of becoming law with Democrats in control of Congress and President Joe Biden in the White House, but it does reflect growing frustrations among Republicans with Fauci and other Biden administration health officials.

On Tuesday, Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) clashed with Fauci during a hearing on the pandemic response over NIH funding for research conducted at the Wuhan Institute of Virology — the Chinese lab that some suspect may have contributed to the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. Paul accused Fauci of supporting risky "gain of function research," which involves manipulating naturally occurring viral diseases to be able to infect humans and studying how they might evolve.

Fauci denied that NIH ever funded the risky research, which some warn could cause a pandemic if an artificial virus is leaked or deliberately released to the public.

WHO Stands by Vaccines as It Sounds Alarm on India COVID Variant, Scientist Warns Mass Vaccination May Cause More Infectious Strains

The World Health Organization reclassified India’s variant, calling it more transmissible than earlier strains, but said there’s nothing to suggest vaccines aren’t working. However, some experts suggested the vaccines could be making matters worse.

By Megan Redshaw

'There can be no doubt that continued mass vaccination campaigns will enable new, more infectious viral variants ...'

The Defender is experiencing censorship on many social channels. Be sure to stay in touch with the news that matters by subscribing to our top news of the day. It's free.

The World Health Organization (WHO) Monday elevated India’s COVID variant B.1.617 from a “variant of interest” to a “variant of global concern.” The variant, which was first isolated in India, is believed to be driving the country’s brutal second wave.

In a follow-up statement today, the WHO said the B.1.6.1.7 variant has since spread throughout India and at least “44 countries in all six WHO regions.”

Maria Van Kerkhove, the WHO’s technical lead for COVID, said during Monday’s press conference new data under peer review shows B.1.617 is more transmissible than earlier strains of the virus.

Van Kerkhove said the variant may be able to evade some of the protections provided by vaccines, as a surprising number of patients who have already been fully vaccinated have been found to be infected with the strain.

“Even though there is increased transmissibility demonstrated by some preliminary studies, we need much more information about this virus variant in this lineage in all of the sub lineages, so we need more sequencing, targeted sequencing to be done,” Van Kerkhove said.

One version of the variant, which first emerged in the state of Maharashtra in late 2020 or early 2021, was elevated to a “variant of concern” in the UK last week.

Variants are classified as “variants of concern” when there is evidence they spread more rapidly, cause more severe disease, evade previously acquired immunity better than circulating versions of the virus, or reduce the effectiveness of public health measures, vaccines or medications.

Van Kerkhove said there was nothing to suggest diagnostics, therapeutics and vaccines don’t work.

“With millions of people around the world infected with this virus, new mutations arise every day,” Gregg Gonsalves, associate professor of epidemiology at Yale University, said in March. “Unless we vaccinate the world, we leave the playing field open to more and more mutations, which could churn out variants that could evade our current vaccines and require booster shots to deal with them.”

Quarraisha Abdool Karim, associate scientific director of the Centre for the Aids Programme of Research in South Africa and professor in clinical epidemiology at Columbia University, said scientists, advocates and decision-maker must ensure that as many people are vaccinated all over the world and as soon as possible so that everyone will be safe from COVID and prepared for the next pandemic.

New variant evades Pfizer vaccine
After the WHO’s press conference, the Financial Times reported on a new study that showed the B.1.617 variant has “modest ability” to avoid antibodies elicited by Pfizer’s COVID vaccine, though an extensive vaccination campaign is likely to reduce transmissions.

Research by Ravindra Gupta, a virologist at the University of Cambridge, UK, suggests antibodies are slightly less effective against the variant than against others. The team collected blood serum from nine people who had received one dose of the Pfizer vaccine and tested it against a harmless carrier virus modified to contain the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein, with the mutations from B.1.617.

Gupta’s team discovered neutralizing antibodies generated by vaccinated individuals were about 80% less potent against some of the mutations in B.1.617.

Researchers also found that healthcare workers in Delhi vaccinated with the Oxford–AstraZeneca vaccine were reinfected mostly with the B.1.617 variant.

A German team tested serum from 15 people who were previously infected with SARS-CoV-2, and found their antibodies neutralized B.1.617 about 50% less effectively than previously circulating strains. When they tested serum from participants who received two doses of the Pfizer vaccine, they found antibodies were about 67% less potent against B.1.617.

According to vaccinologist Philip Krause, chair of the WHO working group on COVID-19 vaccines, if vaccine-resistant SARS-CoV-2 strains emerge, vaccines might need to be updated and regulators might balk at authorizing them without seeing updated safety and efficacy data. If new variants circulate alongside older strains, multivalent vaccines, effective against several lineages, might be needed.

“The not-so-good news is that the rapid evolution of these variants suggests that if it is possible for the virus to evolve into a vaccine-resistant phenotype, this may happen sooner than we like,” said Krause.

Mass vaccination could cause highly infectious variants
Geert Vanden Bossche, Ph.D., certified expert in biology and virology and seasoned vaccine developer who’s worked with GSK Biologicals, Novartis Vaccines, Solvay Biologicals and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, argued in a letter to the WHO that mass infection prevention and mass vaccination with leaky COVID-19 vaccines in the midst of the pandemic will only breed highly infectious variants.

Vanden Bossche’s concerns center around the notion that a combination of lockdowns and extreme selection pressure on the virus induced by the intense global mass vaccination program might diminish the number of cases, hospitalizations and deaths in the short-term, but ultimately could induce the creation of more concerning mutants.

Selection pressure will cause greater convergence in mutations that affect the critical spike protein of the virus that is responsible for breaking through the mucosal surfaces of our airways, the route used by the virus to enter the human body. The virus will outsmart the highly specific antigen-based vaccines that are being used and tweaked, dependent on the circulating variants leading to an increase in serious and potentially lethal cases — in effect, an out-of-control pandemic.

This is the result of what Vanden Bossche calls “immune escape” — incomplete sterilization of the virus by the human immune system or following vaccination resulting in more people who have had COVID remaining susceptible to reinfection.

Immune escape induces vaccine companies to further refine vaccines that will add, not reduce, the selection pressure, producing ever more transmissible and potentially deadly variants.

“There can be no doubt that continued mass vaccination campaigns will enable new, more infectious viral variants to become increasingly dominant and ultimately result in a dramatic incline in new cases despite enhanced vaccine coverage rates,” Vanden Bossche said. He added that mass vaccination could “lead to complete resistance of circulating variants to the current vaccines.”

California likely to keep some mask mandates, governor says

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — California is likely to have "guidelines and mandates" for wearing masks indoors after the state fully reopens next month, Gov. Gavin Newsom said Wednesday, appearing to walk back comments from the previous day that indicated masks would be gone in nearly all situations.

California's mask requirements took effect in June 2020. Last month, Newsom announced he would lift most restrictions on business and activities on June 15 if the state's coronavirus cases remained low but said masks orders would stay in effect.

Then, in an interview Tuesday, he said California once the state fully reopens it will look "a lot like the world we entered into before the pandemic."
"We're not wearing face coverings. We're not restricted in any way, shape or form from doing the old things that we used to do, save for huge, large-scale indoor convention events like that, where we use our common sense," Newsom said in an interview with Fox 11 in Los Angeles, adding there will be "no mandates" and "no restrictions on businesses large and small."

A day later, while touting billions more for K-12 education in Monterey, he altered his words, saying the state "will still have likely some mask guidelines and mandates" for indoor activities.
"But we hope sooner than later, that those will be lifted as well," he said. "The bottom line is, we'll go back to most broad strokes semblance of normalcy, if we continue down this path."
California now requires people to wear a mask when gathering indoors with people who are not vaccinated. Fully vaccinated people can meet indoors without wearing a mask. They also don't have to wear a mask outdoors, except when attending large gatherings such as sporting events, festivals and concerts.

California has a host of other rules for businesses and other public places. Those rules vary by county, with the more severe restrictions imposed on places where the virus is most widespread.

Newsom has been under pressure to relax coronavirus restrictions as the number of new cases decline. He will likely face a recall election later this year, an effort fueled mostly by anger over his handling of the pandemic.

Newsom's comments on Tuesday and his remarks on Wednesday seemed to conflict with what the state has planned for mask mandates. Just two months ago, Newsom criticized Republican Texas Gov. Greg Abbot for lifting that state's mask mandate, calling it " absolutely reckless."

Meanwhile, a state board that sets rules for workplaces is considering changing its mask rules later this month. Those proposed rules would not require people to wear masks indoors if all workers are fully vaccinated and no one has coronavirus symptoms, the Sacramento Bee reported.

Asked to clarify Newsom's comments, Ali Bay, spokeswoman for the California Department of Public Health, said the state will "continue to update face coverings guidance as appropriate, with the goal of continuing to loosen restrictions as more people get vaccinated." She urged Californians to continue to follow the state's current mask guidelines.

The rate of people testing positive for the coronavirus in California is just 1.1%, the lowest in the nation. More than 14.6 million people are fully vaccinated against the coronavirus, and another 5.1 million are partially vaccinated.
Still, some public health experts say it's smart to wear masks in public places.
"I can't imagine completely abandoning all masking," said Dr. Brad Pollock, associate dean for public health sciences at the University of California, Davis School of Medicine. "If we have no COVID left in the community, that's one thing. But I don't think that's going to happen."

Mass vaccination causing the rise of mutations and variants...gee, who would have guessed that?

I am at the point now, of keeping everyone that is not in my immediate family/household as far away from me as possible. Do not come within 3-4 feet and I do wear my mask and gloves when in contact with the public.

I work in the greenhouse and I am amazed at how many of those who have had their shots are of the opinion that all is now well with the world and they can do whatever they want b/c they have had their
"shots" without any regard for those who have not got one. (for whatever reason) They also seem to think that they are no longer able to get sick b/c of the shot. (shakes head in sad silence)

EXC: Navarro’s 9 “Indisputable” Facts Linking Fauci To COVID-19 Origin.
Is Dr. Anthony Fauci the father of the Wuhan virus? If that virus escaped from the Wuhan virology lab, it’s the most ironic yes in all of American history.

Given the importance of this topic to understand the origins of the virus– and the fact Fauci has now lied before a congressional hearing under the withering interrogation of Rand Paul – it’s worth going over a case that rests on nine indisputable facts. In some cases, the evidence for Fauci’s role in the creation of the virus even comes directly from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) website.

ONE: Fauci used NIH grant money to help fund the Wuhan Virology Lab; and

TWO, these American taxpayer funds were funneled to the Wuhan Lab through Peter Daszak and the New York City-based EcoHealth Alliance.

Under the auspices of a nearly $3.7 million grant from the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) – “Understanding the Risk of Bat Coronavirus Emergence” – 30 studies have been published since 2014. Over half of these studies count authors from Chinese Communist Party-run scientific organizations, and in 13 cases, the authors come from the Wuhan Institute of Virology.

What’s more, the studies themselves describe the grant money as going to both EcoHealth Alliance President Peter Daszak and Shi Zhengli, Director of the Wuhan Institute of Virology’s Center for Emerging Infectious Diseases.

For example, one study on the “Isolation and Characterization of a Novel Bat Coronavirus” notes that “National Institutes of Health (NIH) provided funding to Peter Daszak and Zheng-Li Shi under grant number NIAID R01AI110964.” There are seven other instances where U.S. taxpayer dollars from the NIH have been described as funding research conducted by Shi Zhengli. (Here, here, here, here, here, here, and, here.)

But there’s more.

THREE, Fauci, together with NIH Director Francis Collins, went behind the back of the Trump White House in December 2017 to overturn a 2014 Obama Administration decision to ban the use of “gain of function” tools to increase the lethality of viruses – Australian journalist Sharri Markson has revealed Fauci used a “low level” White House meeting to fly below the radar.

FOUR, before the pandemic hit, Peter Daszak bragged in a TV interview about how simple it was to use gain of function at the Wuhan lab to make viruses more deadly.

FIVE, Obama’s National Security Council recommended banning gain of function research because of the high risk that a weaponized virus might escape from even the most secure labs; SIX, deadly pathogens have routinely escaped from highest security labs, including a virus that escaped from the Beijing Virology Institute and caused the first SARS virus; and SEVEN, the US State Department warned in 2018 about a lack of safety protocols at the Wuhan lab and the possibility that Wuhan sloppiness could trigger a second SARS outbreak.

EIGHT, Fauci’s NIH helped fund the research of Ralph Barric from the University of North Carolina who used gain of function techniques with China’s infamous “Bat Lady,” Wuhan Lab virologist Shi Zhengli; and NINE, numerous experts have now agree that SARS-COV-2 most likely originated from the Wuhan lab. These experts include Centers for Disease Control Director Dr. Robert Redfield, CNN’s Sanjay Gupta, and Nicholas Wade, who has written what may well turn out to be the definitive case in support of the lab theory.

Case closed.

Except many in the mainstream media still don’t think so.

Mediaite asserted that I made a “false insinuation” that Fauci “helped create the coronavirus by funding research at the Wuhan Institute of Virology.” While citing the compromised World Health Organization, Yahoo News argued that the theory outlined above is the “least convincing.”

Fauci must immediately resign and apologize to the American people and the world for errors in judgment that in all likelihood have led to the current pandemic that has killed millions, destroyed tens of millions of jobs, and inflicted trillions of dollars in damages on the American and world economies. And the Chinese Communist Party should echo these apologies.

Fauci must likewise apologize for lying to the American public under the razor sharp questioning of Senator Rand Paul. On May 11, Fauci repeatedly and adamantly denied that he and his NIH either funded or supported gain of function activities at the Wuhan lab. Yet, this is just another one of the kind of white “masks don’t work” lies that Fauci loves to tell the American people when it is expedient.

In this case, because Fauci’s NIH funding did not go directly to the Wuhan lab but rather to the intermediaries of Daszak and Barric, Fauci wants us to believe his hands are clean. Yet, Fauci likely knew about the research Daszak was conducting in Wuhan and that Barric was in close collaboration with the Wuhan Lab’s “bat lady” – and if he didn’t, that’s even more grounds for his resignation.

The first time I met Tony Fauci was in the White House situation room when I argued on behalf of President Trump for the China travel ban and Fauci fought me tooth and nail. I was right then – and helped save hundreds of thousands of American lives. And I’m right now.

OSHA Tells Employers They May Be Liable For 'Any Adverse Reactions' If They Mandate Covid Shots

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration is informing employers that it's possible they could be held liable for "any adverse reactions" if they mandate employees take COVID-19 vaccines "as a condition of their employment."

From LifeSite, "Employers may be liable for 'any adverse reaction' from mandated coronavirus shots: OSHA":
OSHA released its new guidance on April 20 under a "Frequently Asked Questions" section of its website having to do with COVID-19 safety compliance.

The question asks whether an employer who mandates employees receive these experimental COVID-19 shots is required to record any adverse events as a result of these injections. Such recording requirements of serious work-related injuries and illness may not only leave an employer vulnerable to worker’s compensation claims, but such incidents could also impact the employer’s safety record.

The question and answer in full:

If I require my employees to take the COVID-19 vaccine as a condition of their employment, are adverse reactions to the vaccine recordable?

If you require your employees to be vaccinated as a condition of employment (i.e., for work-related reasons), then any adverse reaction to the COVID-19 vaccine is work-related. The adverse reaction is recordable if it is a new case under 29 CFR 1904.6 and meets one or more of the general recording criteria in 29 CFR 1904.7.

This clarification comes as an increasing number of employers seek to mandate the experimental injections despite possible illegality.
This is just common sense but common sense is in short supply these days.

OSHA has a disclaimer at the bottom of their FAQ stating that their guidance "is not a standard or regulation, and it creates no new legal obligations."

"The recommendations are advisory in nature, informational in content, and are intended to assist employers in providing a safe and healthful workplace."

The notion employers could require their employees to get experimental shots at all is outrageous.

“Dr. Anthony Fauci Seems to be Still Funding Gain of Function Research…The Chinese Military Is Involved In This Research” – Dr. Lawrence Sellin

Dr. Lawrence Sellin was on the War Room with Steve Bannon yesterday. The frequent contributo at The Gateway Pundit discussed the activities between China and the US related to COVID-19 and similar viruses.

On May 13, 2021, Lawrence Sellin had a wide-ranging discussion with Steve Bannon on his War Room program about Dr. Anthony Fauci’s funding of “gain of function” research, the laboratory origin of COVID-19 and the massive infiltration of U.S. virus research programs by China, in particular, the Chinese People’s Liberation Army.

Fauci’s funding of “gain of function” has gone beyond just experiments related to coronavirus, but appears to involve other, potentially more dangerous viruses. Sellin identified a 2020 study funded by Fauci involving “gain of function” research with far more deadly viruses attacking the brain and central nervous system.

Sellin provided indisputable evidence for the laboratory origin of COVID-19.
Finally, Sellin alerted War Room listeners regarding the massive infiltration of U.S. virus research programs by China, citing evidence that the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, not only actively collaborates with the Wuhan Institute of Virology, believed to be the laboratory origin of COVID-19, but conducts research together with scientists of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army, some of whom appear to be linked to China’s biowarfare program.

Dr. Lawrence Sellin shared the following with Steve Bannon at the War Room:
Let me first just say that there’s no question COVID-19 comes from the laboratory. I think the only thing we need to determine now is [whether], how it was released, whether it was an accident or intentional.
Dr. Sellin then went on to discuss a paper explaining Dr. Fauci’s actions in changing a non-deadly virus to something deadly. Four of the five grants given to support the study were provided by Dr. Fauci’s government body.
Anthony Fauci seems to be still be funding gain of function research that has occurred within the last two years. And that the Chinese military is involved in the planning and execution of this research.
Dr. Sellin comes on at the 31-minute mark in the video below:

Choosing to Trust Yourself

Every other day, we’re given contradictory, ‘authoritative,’ new advice on social distancing, masks, what’s safe, and what isn’t.

Every other day, it seems we are given new ‘authoritative’ advice on social distancing, masks, what’s safe, and what isn’t. Much of the news to which we’re exposed contradicts what we were already told.

The CDC and some top officials, who shall remain nameless, have done less than a stellar job of providing reliable public information. Some governors in large population states, have been inconsistent, partial, duplicitous, authoritarian, and, in some cases, criminal.

Who Can I turn To?
Against such a backdrop, how does John and Jane Q. Citizen move forward professionally and personally? This is not foolproof but works as well as anything we’ve seen: Trust yourself and your decisions.

Trusting yourself enhances your ability to choose based on limited or inconsistent information. A study in the 1940s of highly successful people uniformly found that they reached decisions quickly and retreated from them slowly.

A more recent study found when people make decisions based on instinct, they are happier or at least more content than those who make decisions based on careful analysis. Hmm. Too much thinking could be hazardous to your choices – and to your happiness!

Reinforcing Statements
Here is the statement that reinforces your desire to trust yourself: “I choose to trust my ability to make the right choice.” Another essential choice is choosing to feel worthy and complete, simply spoken to yourself: “I choose to feel worthy and complete.” This helps me reduce anxiety, stay calm, and feel more relaxed.
Depending on how long it has been since you’ve felt worthy and complete, you might have to make this choice for many days or weeks running – but keep at it.

By choosing to feel worthy and complete, you automatically redirect yourself to accept that there is nothing you must do. Everything is based on your choice.
If you choose to continue working on some task, even one assigned to you, the choice is made in the present moment, and not based on a prior agenda. A worthy and complete feeling yields a tremendous sense of inner harmony.

Maintaining Your Choices
As with any quest to reinforce choices you make, write or type your choices and post them, or voice record them and play them back. How many choices can you make at once? Make a few or many, there is no limit.

Choose what feels right for you. And keep choosing. While you’re waiting in a bank line, run through your choices. If you notice yourself wavering, recall the new behavior or feeling that you’ve chosen.

You can choose to overcome rituals that no longer support you, or you can make choices beyond anything others would have guessed you’d choose.

A new idea is such a rare thing. We often simply parrot what we hear and read. You can make choices that are not congruent with your history. You can makes choices that no one has ever made before.
