ALERT Look Out Below! China’s Heavy-Lift Rocket Due For Uncontrolled Reentry Within Days

So it is re-entering if you seen a contrail
I told Grandson to keep an eye out, he's outside with the neighbor kids playing basketball....he came running in out of breath said, he's glad I warned him, cause he thought it was an alien invasion. I went outside without my phone but I could see a long line of white objects streaking across the sky. It was awesome and scary all at the same time!!!!wish i could've snapped a pic!

ETA: Daughter is researching. Nasa said it could happen again in another 90 minutes....from when I saw it at 9:30, so maybe again at 11 pm e.s.t.

I confess I'm dubious of your description. At any rate, the next pass is not going to be visible in your overhead. Do the math.

I described what I saw. I've NEVER seen anything like that! dubious, as in you doubt what I saw? or doubt my description??? smh, never mind! It looked like a long line of white objects in a straight line, like a zipper and then disappeared. guess it was cicada's, yeah, that's it, cicada's!!!

Goodness. If doubt does this to you, how do you handle actual disagreement?

That sounds like Star link, almost.

My apologies! I didn't know what starlink even was, all I know was that I saw something pretty amazing. I handle disagreement my admitting when I am wrong.

What does an orbital debris reentry look like? And how do you know if what you saw was manmade or a meteor? #spacedebris #LongMarch5B Read more on the differences here:

Our latest prediction for #LongMarch5B CZ-5B rocket body reentry is:   09 May 2021 07:00 UTC ± 11 hours along one of the ground tracks shown here. Still too early to determine a meaningful debris footprint. Follow this page for updates:  https://aerospace.org/reentries/cz-5

Well, as just a moment ago it looks like reentry at 0330 +/- 4 hours Eastern tonight.

I'm still wondering why NORAD isn't all over this Like Donkey Kong. It's their schtick, right?

Maybe we will see more attention if the Chi-Com hurtling, out of control, space object had DC in it's boresight?

Then we would see institutional . . . :hof:

Until then,

You can change the time zones to your local.

Yes, but the 0330 +/-4 hrs is UTC (on 9th) not Eastern as you had posted.

That changes to 11:30 PM Eastern (8th), 10:30 PM Central, etc. +/- 4 hrs as I posted.

I'm in Central, so it could be anywhere from 6:30 PM (8th) to 2:30 AM (9th) my time. (unless it changes again)

It seems pretty clear that it won't be coming down anywhere over the continental US. I'm sure they're watching it, to collect information if nothing else.

Are you sure?

The plotted orbital path covers the southern half of the U.S.

US Military Expects Chinese Rocket Debris To Hit Turkmenistan
by Tyler Durden

Saturday, May 08, 2021 - 01:29 PM
CNN is reporting Saturday that the debris from China's Long March 5B Rocket is expected based on current predictions to land somewhere in Turkmenistan, according to the US military. It's been expected to re-enter Earth's atmosphere Saturday or Sunday, driving fears that 20 tons of debris could fall on populated areas:
CNN's Jim Sciutto said the "latest information has this coming down to Earth in Turkmenistan in central Asia. The timing of this is tomorrow evening 7pm eastern time.. this would be early Sunday morning hours in central Asia... in potentially populated areas - that's the issue here.
The rocket will be one of the largest objects to descend from low Earth orbit in an uncontrolled re-entry. Coordinates given in a tweet by a popular open source space monitoring site also suggested the rocket would fall over Turkmenistan perhaps on Sunday, however, both the monitor and the US military admit that estimates will "continue to vary wildly."

Later revised estimates also pointed to a possible Indian Ocean location, which would be optimal given the risk of debris falling dangerously over inhabited areas on land.
As we described earlier on Friday a spokesman for China's Foreign Ministry said that authorities are closely monitoring the rocket and played down the risks hyped up by western media.
"To my knowledge, the upper stage of this rocket has been deactivated, which means that most of its parts will burn up upon re-entry, making the likelihood of damage to aviation or ground facilities and activities extremely low," spokesman Wang Wenbin told reporters.
This is something which, though very rare, has happened in the recent past. In May of 2020, a Chinese Long March 5B made a similarly uncontrolled re-entry, resulting in debris raining down on inhabited areas of the Ivory Coast.

US Space Command said that it too is carefully tracking the rocket's location during the uncontrolled re-entry, but stressed that it "cannot be pinpointed until within hours of its re-entry," currently projected to happen on Saturday.
The US military went so far as to clarify that no, it does not have orders to shoot down the rocket at this time - though we can imagine plans would change if it were confirmed to be hurling toward New York City or Washington DC. "We have the capability to do a lot of things but we don't have a plan to shoot it down as we speak," Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin told reporters Thursday.

The Long March 5B rocket was launched on April 28 to send key components to China's new next-generation space station. Still, there are already ten more supply missions to the new space station planned, suggesting the likelihood of many more such scenarios to come.

Turkmenistan is primarily desert, good place for it to land. I wonder though; I remember when Mir came down the last few orbits "wobbled". Between the atmospheric drag and geomagnetic pull on the spacecraft, this "confirmed" crash of the debris could be entirely wrong. It could "go long" and still hit a populated area somewhere downrange of the current track.

Can't see how there's really much that can be predicted for a crash site. It's big, and it depends a lot on how much it breaks up once it starts hitting some atmosphere. They might figure out (closer to splash-down) which orbit it will come down in, but where along that line? Not so sure.
