I love my pitt. He's 12 years old and would give his life to defend us. Smartest and best dog I've ever had, but then again he was properly trained at a young age. He does not go out without a leash. People need to be responsible with their dogs- training, supervising, and leashing them.Nothing wrong with PitBulls it's the stupid ass owners.
Although there is some bonus points, people cross the street when I am walking my pitbull, it's like a gun you can pet LOL
Even if it's a rabbit gun. Or is that a bug gun? Those pits are very tough! Better cancel the bug gun and get at least a 9mm.ALWAYS CARRY A SIDEARM.
ALWAYS.
You were extraordinarily lucky. Next time you won't be.
File a report with your local LEO agency.
In the future, if you have to shoot the dog and/or him, it could be important.
ETA: VERY important.
Yup, file a police report.
You were very fortunate this time.
The dog's owner will probably say that Puddles is a wonderful dog but you now know better.
That and ATV's Plainly stated on my HO policy Pits are listed as one of the breeds.Like it or not, some insurance companies either deny or increase the cost of homeowner's insurance if there is a breed of dog present that the company defines as "dangerous".
Make sure to read your homeowner's policy.
And some of them who do.Never, ever trust them.Pitbulls are like a box of chocolates.
You never know what you're going to get.
Some are sweet love bugs.
And others will rip the face off of any living thing that doesn't feed them.
I've always been more of a cat person. They taste like chicken when sauteed.
Not if it results in neighbors eventually shooting each other, which HAS happened before.I dislike pitbulls. But please don't poison animals, as It's a really horrible way to die. Shooting is much kinder.
We live in a low-crime, semi-rural area but a former co-worker was attacked by a crazed motorist with no apparent motive. He was severely beaten and had broken bones. If you do not yell loudly when attacked, no one is likely to come to help you right away. . .
And to the ass poisoning dogs, id wipe your seed from this planet of you did that to my dog...
I'll add that after the attack, I found out that this owner (he lived in a trailer on my neighbor's farm) had adopted this dog from a pit rescue about 3 months or so prior - he told me AFTER the attack the pit was a trained fighting dog as had scars on it's head and a broken canine!!!!!! What the heck? He had no fence, not tied up, no leash...nothing for that dog. And my neighbors that allowed him to put a trailer on their property were told that dog was a fighting dog and they allowed it!!! - no fence, no controls, nothing. My neighbors said he 'paid' well. (Dang! Sold out by my neighbors!) Needless to say, I was livid with my neighbors. I spread the word about the pit and when the rest of the farmers found out what happened they were livid too as we all have dogs...some wander around on their farms = they are all good, friendly dogs - no fighting...that dog could have seen their dogs out and about and attacked their dogs. And no one would have been close enough to save their dogs. Trained fighting dogs are viscous to other dogs!Hi Rabbit
my dog and I were involved in a pit bull attack last fall. I know how traumatizing it is. So glad you weren't injured more. You'll probably have some bruises. Shame people are such jerks with dogs. And dogs like that have no business EVER being out with the public. I'd prefer them all 'gone'. There are too many good dogs out there to have a bad one.
Chance
thorr mentioned pepper spray - I just bought some. I'll be carrying it now walking and biking.
This is probably thread drift but Trouble, is that your bull terrier? I've wanted one forever.Thats fear based ignorance, just like covid. Pits aren't naturally mean, the morons that own them make them that way, period. The dog ran into the ops legs, omg put that dog down. Not a tooth mark on them. Real vicious. And to the ass poisoning dogs, id wipe your seed from this planet of you did that to my dog...
Our oldest DS rides about 30 miles a day. He told me just this morning that on a rural road in the middle of the county a group of 4 dogs ran up on him all of them quite large he said. I asked him if he had any pepper spray and he said no. I said if they're running around 10 miles out in the middle of no where, they are a pack and he needs to get pepper spray. Hopefully he will take my advice. My wife was walking our 14-year-old collie on a leash a half block from our home when a doberman and a similarly sized mutt ran through an open gate and attacked them. The owners were in the yard and quickly halted the attack. At the request of the dog owners' next door neighbors, my wife called the police and a deputy had a talk with the owners; we did not file a formal complaint as there were no injuries. It seems the main problem is that people are lazy and inattentive; they will leave their house to get in their car with their dog unleashed. I bicycle 6-10 miles daily and am attacked at least four times a month. I yell loudly at the dog(s) and am accurate at hitting their face(s) with pepper spray if required. I carry a pistol in my handlebar bag for defense against two-legged predators. According to most insurance companies, the following are the more common “Dangerous Breeds” or “Blacklisted Breeds”:
Absolutely. In my town the Selectboard will at a minimum order the dog removed from town or alternatively put down.File a report with your local LEO agency.

That ain’t old age baby. It’s wisdom (and an adrenaline dump) Big difference.I was in my driveway fifteen or twenty feet away from my front door. The dog is never loose.
I have a seven-foot tall metal fence attached to the chain link in my backyard between our yards, but the metal stops short behind my storage shed but, the chain-link continues.
If I need to get anything behind my shed I have to call them on the phone to put the dog up until I finish. I don't do anything ever to provoke a dog but this one growls and lunges at the fence if it sees me. He does it to the other neighbors that border their backyard too.
I must really be getting old this has really shaken me up.

This is true for our area too. I know there are some that are very sweet, but in our area the dog fighters breed them and sell them. I've always been drawn to bully breeds and have GSD's, but pits aren't a favorite of mine.Yes, same here: my HO policy lists pits, chow chows, and several others.
I know some swear by pits, but none will be coming into my home. Around here, there are some very bad blood lines. It's not a breed I will take a chance on. Our shelters are filled with them.
Nothing worse than a viscous dogI'll add that after the attack, I found out that this owner (he lived in a trailer on my neighbor's farm) had adopted this dog from a pit rescue about 3 months or so prior - he told me AFTER the attack the pit was a trained fighting dog as had scars on it's head and a broken canine!!!!!! Pit bull rescues suck! Sounds like they don't care about the dog's history. Just adopt them all out.....
While at the urgent care with my dog - my neighbor lady came with me - she started confessing a few things.....
Found out these idiot neighbors had a pit bull prior to moving to their farm that almost killed their rottie and they grew up as puppies together. The knew how pits can be!! Came home from work one day and found the rottie's chest shredded. Took the dog to a pit rescue. Good Lord!! What's wrong with people?! Setting up someone else!!
AND these same neighbors admitted their 'frasier' terrier dog (forget the breed name) almost killed their chihuahua - came home from work yet again to a mess of blood and a torn up dog - poor dog never recovered. Died a year or so later.
We had a mystery in the neighborhood for years = the farm across the county road lost their chihuahua - everyone looked and looked - nothing - thought coyotes got it. Then the body was found shredded in this same idiot neighbor's field about 3 weeks or so later. This happened shortly before these neighbor's 'frasier' terrier dog almost killed their chihuahua. So mystery solved. Their dog killed it! OMG! What clueless people!!!! Some people should NEVER have a dog.
I've had 6 GSDs (two K-9s and one cadaver dog) and 3 other breeds on my farm - NEVER had a dog fight, NEVER had any problems with my dogs and neighbor dogs or people - all good dogs.
And I don't like pits either. But have friends that love them. And friends that have had to put them down for aggression. My sister put her pit bull cross down - only two years old - bit my mom twice for no reason and started chewing on the old dog. She got it from the pound as a puppy and she had lots of dog classes with it. Even took it back to class for the aggression. Didn't change anything. A real shame.
Slippery little devils....Nothing worse than a viscous dog
Only you would noticeSlippery little devils....
Oh wow. I didn't realize that. People always tell me that pit bulls are so "sweet", but here you say they got a screw loose and can turn on ya. Scary. I can believe it. I LOVE dogs, and never afraid of them, but i AM afraid of pit bulls.BS My neighbor who is a wonderful kind person had her Pit bull turn on her one day out of nowhere and she was barely able to get away from it. they have a screw loose somewhere in their brain. attack after attack happens here in the desert.
The breed needs to be destroyed.
