CHAT I Was Attacked By A Pitbull Dog This Morning

By the grace of God, I was not hurt. I was standing in my driveway and the neighbors vicious pitbull charged me. I can no longer run and didn't have time to anyway. I just braced myself and screamed as loudly as I believe I've ever screamed in my life. The dog hit me full force in my legs but I didn't go down.

When my neighbor realized what was happening he came running and was able to call the dog off. It has taken me a while to stop shaking but I know God had His angels around me this morning.

It is when the dog knocks you down you are in real trouble.

You were lucky.

You might give the neighbor a heads up the next time the dog comes on your property and attacks you will be his last.

That way your neighbor can either leash his animal or know what to expect.

Hi Rabbit

my dog and I were involved in a pit bull attack last fall. I know how traumatizing it is. So glad you weren't injured more. You'll probably have some bruises. Shame people are such jerks with dogs. And dogs like that have no business EVER being out with the public. I'd prefer them all 'gone'. There are too many good dogs out there to have a bad one.

thorr mentioned pepper spray - I just bought some. I'll be carrying it now walking and biking.

Glad you didn't get hurt. It is a shame your neighbor has turned such a wonderful dog into a vicious animal :(.
BS My neighbor who is a wonderful kind person had her Pit bull turn on her one day out of nowhere and she was barely able to get away from it. they have a screw loose somewhere in their brain. attack after attack happens here in the desert.
The breed needs to be destroyed.

I hate the breed. I have been around a lot of them and never know one to not be trouble. One of my neighbors has one that charged me and my daughter a few years ago as we were walking around the block. This one busted out the screen door to get too us. Owner was in a full run trying to stop it. She yelling at it and finally picked up a dead limb that was lying on the the ground and started beating it. It turned on her but finally broke off the attack. Had I been carrying that day I would have killed it.

Back before I knew about pittbulls I bought one for my wife. She had a friend that owned one and was convinced that they were the perfect breed for her and the kids protection. One day the dog jumped the fence and attacked my old neighbor lady walking her poodle. She picked up her dog and held him over her head. My dog bit her viciously on her legs. I and another neighbor ran outside when We heard her screaming and got the dog off her. This monster had been played with every day since weened fed watered and loved she stayed in the house at night and inside a 6 foot stockade fence during the day. I believe the woman would not have survived had we been at work that day. I couldn't wait to kill this dog, my kids were both little at the time. I hate this breed and call them land sharks they can turn anytime. The old lady didn't sue me but I wouldn't have blamed her if she had. No one can change my mind about pittbulls, to me they are like rattlesnakes.

I hate pit bulls.

A few years ago I was with my wife at a craft show she was a vendor I was couple of blocks away walking by a house and a pit bull came at me. I was in the middle of the street (no weapon) it would run at me and then stop retreat it did this at least 10 times - each time it retreated I backed up couple of steps. Keep looking around for something to use (nothing) I was going to fight it but I knew I was going to be in trouble. Finally as the distance increased I was able to keep backing up till I couldn't see it.

If I lived in that town there is a zero chance that one night I would not have thrown a couple of hamburgers covering rat poison into their yard.

O sweet Rabbit, that is frightening! So relieved that it ended as well as it did. Might be time to start carrying one of those wooden cane/animal prod things that Dozdoats is always recommending : (

Pass it forward...
My wife was walking our 14-year-old collie on a leash a half block from our home when a doberman and a similarly sized mutt ran through an open gate and attacked them. The owners were in the yard and quickly halted the attack. At the request of the dog owners' next door neighbors, my wife called the police and a deputy had a talk with the owners; we did not file a formal complaint as there were no injuries. It seems the main problem is that people are lazy and inattentive; they will leave their house to get in their car with their dog unleashed. I bicycle 6-10 miles daily and am attacked at least four times a month. I yell loudly at the dog(s) and am accurate at hitting their face(s) with pepper spray if required. I carry a pistol in my handlebar bag for defense against two-legged predators. We live in a low-crime, semi-rural area but a former co-worker was attacked by a crazed motorist with no apparent motive. He was severely beaten and had broken bones. If you do not yell loudly when attacked, no one is likely to come to help you right away. . .

I was in my driveway fifteen or twenty feet away from my front door. The dog is never loose.

I have a seven-foot tall metal fence attached to the chain link in my backyard between our yards, but the metal stops short behind my storage shed but, the chain-link continues.
If I need to get anything behind my shed I have to call them on the phone to put the dog up until I finish. I don't do anything ever to provoke a dog but this one growls and lunges at the fence if it sees me. He does it to the other neighbors that border their backyard too.

I must really be getting old this has really shaken me up.

Since my stroke I carry a cane but in my own yard I try to do without it. Balance is an issue with me but I have always been able to catch myself before I fall. It honestly had to be the Lord who kept me on my feet. If I had gone down I believe he would have gone for my throat.

I agree. Report it. Your neighbor may or may not understand it, and you may create an enemy. The dog attacked once and will probably do it again if it sees the opportunity. Pit bulls are very dangerous dogs.

If you are attacked again and have no weapon, put your thumbs or fingers in the dogs eyes with the intent of penetrating the eye balls. Most of us are too squeamish to do it but it may save your life.

I took care of a man who got a nail in his eye, it ricocheted off some cement and penetrated his eye. He could not stand or move without throwing up and could not concentrate on anything being said to him. It will disable someone completely. Hopefully it will do so to a pit bull. When in a fight it always comes down to who can disable who first.
