CHAT I Was Attacked By A Pitbull Dog This Morning

Walrus Whisperer

Hope in chains...
Gee, a 9-week-old puppy biting everything! How unbelievable! (Lol)

I’m going to go against “conventional wisdom” on that issue. I’ve never discouraged my pups from biting. Biting TOO HARD, certainly. But a dogs mouth is its hands. Anything they want to interact with, it HAS to be using their mouths. Over time, my pups became super soft-mouthed, but they still bite me. These days, I’ll put my arm along the side his head, and he “side nibbles” my forearm. Secondarily, he’ll flop over on his back on the couch, and curl his head back toward me. I’ll reach out with my index finger and touch his nose. He’ll let me do that a time or two, then snaps, trying up to catch my finger before I can pull it away.

We play these games for hours. He’s quite the character.
That's about the sweetest thing I ever heard, Dennis.

Well. All I can rely on is my Experience, my years in the Veterinary biz and in Animal Control.

Experience-owned one. Never an issue. Loves the cats and other dogs and people.

Experience-neighbor had two Rotties that had eaten their kids face and they kept them. Got a call one morning the dogs were loose and to not go outside-blindness thing, might not see 'em and so forth. There is a longer story there that got me up for a Hero's Award but meh, past is past.

Experiece-Nephew got half his scalp taken off by a GS mix.

Experience-99% of dog bites comes from small dogs, they just don't get reported otherwise people would hollar about getting rid of Shtzus, Pomeranians and so forth.

Experience-in 15 years working with animals I saw *one* Pit we held for Biting someone-14 days out and we Euthanized it because the owners did not want it back. Her name was Chloe and she was a sweet dog. That was around 1987.

Experience-larger breeds tend to be calmer in most situations tho one did pull me over and I hald it's head three inches from my face as it snapped it's jaws at me like a steel trap. That was either an older Yellow Lab or similar.

I could go on but it's just my experience but I do not freak out over Dogs-even "Vicious" ones as I understand how to handle them if unarmed and have never needed to shoot one-I certainly would if neccedsary but-like my Alligator, Coral and Rattlesnakes along with other creatures Great and Small, understanding how it thinks and what drives it goes a long way towards keeping things safe and Teeth Free.

The dog is loose. I called my neighbor, she was just off work and picking up the children from the babysitter, and I told her what had happened. Her ex did not tell her. She is rushing home now to deal with the dog.

Yes, same here: my HO policy lists pits, chow chows, and several others.

I know some swear by pits, but none will be coming into my home. Around here, there are some very bad blood lines. It's not a breed I will take a chance on. Our shelters are filled with them.

My vet, fortunately, put the fear of God into me re: chows. Hell of an animal, and my hearts' joy, but never once in my 15 odd years as Alfa did I forget I had a loaded weapon for which I was responsible 24-7. Even with my heightened sense of responsibility, she was free twice. . .Frankly, I prefer a gun that I can set aside without guilt or as much need for overseeing.

Rabbit, I am truly sorry to know of your distress. Is the gf also distressed enough to be willing to change the situation?
Have you spoken with her about what measures might be taken to fix this problem, and which WILL BE taken? At bare minimum that fencing needs a complete reinforcement.

Well. That’s cool as long as you’re not the one being hit from the backside. If you are surprised by something like this you may be the one in the crapper. No thought. Just the oh f! scenario.

Screw this dog. Obviously no one gives a crap about it or it would never be chained. No. I DO feel for the dog, but this is NO GAME AND CERTAINLY NOT MACHO-VILLE.

Just a simple fact: Millions of dogs are killed by shelters every year. You do not have to save every dog. There is an excess of dogs in the USA and that is why the shelters kill many.

Not a Chow fan myself. Never had an issue with one but my Feral sides says "All that hair could be an issue" if I ever had to go Tooth and Fang with one.

Not a Sharpei fan either-nasty little ****ers to have to pick up and carry-all prickly hairs and greasy.

I said Nothing about *that* particular dog. Just *My* experience overall with a wider variety of Breeds than most people will ever come in Contact with.

Trust me I've been Blindsided by nearly everything under the Sun that walks, crawls and flies on the U.S. Continent. I just tend to have faster reflexes and a "No scare' Policy beaten into me so react quickly and with force as-needed. Nothing "Pancho Villa" about it but a keen interest in keeping my own Ass in a single piece or destroying anything putting holes in it.

Pisses me straight off to be attacked and people seeing my reaction are like "Dayuuuuummmm-remind me not to **** with you."

No. I understand where YOU are coming from. You’ve had more experience than most here with, well God knows what comes into vet clinic (lol).

But, we are talking about a particular dog that has gone rogue and people who don’t necessarily have the strength, speed or state of mind to deal with it.

I’m glad you can do this, but I doubt 78% of us could take on a large dog if surprised by the thing. Even if you had say, a pig sticker on you, would you be able to get it out? Would you be able to maneuver the dog around you to use it? You probably could, but not sure I could even though I’m still relatively strong and agile.

The multifaceted “things” in a dog attack are a little tough to deal with when it’s happening to you.

Actually it went from "I was attacked by the neighbors Pitt!!!" to another "All Pitts are EVIL and should DIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

I simply shared my experience with a lot of different Breeds and the true numbers on small dogs versus large dogs including Pitts.

Large dogs do way more damage so that's why we went thru the GSD are BAD! Then Dobbies are BAD! Then Rotties are BAD! and seemed to have settled on Pitts are BAD! Oh, wait, forgot the Chows in there somewhere.

When the simple fact is-comparing numbers small dogs bite at rates 100's of times more frequent and people simply don't report it because it tends to be minor-my mom recently got rid of this little furry spitball of a teeny mutt after she ended up with stitches from it. A Breeder of whateverthe****itis took it and got her a different one with less personality disorders [[but it's still young-waiting for it to get older and turn into Satan myself]]

Remember-someone here was afraid of Attack Weiner dogs and a woman died last year or so from getting pecked by a chicken.

Shoot. Any animal can be dangerous. And if you don’t know that, you aren’t old. Cough, cough.

Rabbit- just seeing this now. I'm so sorry and you need to report that dog ASAP. If you don't it could happen to someone else and the outcome much worse. I would be shaken too- no matter the age.

My daughter has a boxer "Mercy". She's 8 years old now and been with DD since she was 8 weeks. I absolutely love this girl but I can tell you, if she doesn't know you or sniffs an ounce of something not right- she may rip your face off. I would trust her with my life and we have Facetime calls from Grandma LOL. The humans she knows she loves with all her heart. She has been intensely trained and DD is very careful and keeps her crated if someone thy don't know is over. They live on a military base and do have fencing around their back yard but if there are kids outside in other yards no chances of her hopping the fence to play. They bring her inside. She's a big cuddle bug and gets along great with her husky brother but when you own a dog like this you have to be responsible...and too many people aren't. her RBF (resting bitch face) is enough to scare most people off LOL
