Dollars to doughnuts he has Ebola. Or, instead of a "mild" case, maybe he has a "touch" of Ebola...

I swear I jumped off the couch and screamed at the moron. Hubby said 'UT OH. Don't break the TV'. That statement has my eyes shooting bullets lying like that. Mild case my left butt cheek.

This could be ugly. Dallas was bad enough, but in one of the most heavily-populated cities in the world like NYC - this is one of my greatest fears, rapid spread, out of control in a heartbeat.

Fox is saying he may have a MILD CASE OF EBOLA????????????? Isn't that like being a 'little' pregnant? OMG!

Well then we must not have anything to worry about
This is getting ridiculous. I can't believe even Fox is using that language. It is almost funny.

"He developed a fever, nausea, pain and fatigue Wednesday night, officials says" <-- that's when he was out bowling

" ... The unidentified doctor returned from West Africa about 10 days ago, the official said.
Investigators are taking the case seriously because it appears the doctor didn't quarantine himself following his return, the official said.

The official said the doctor was out in public. Authorities are possibly going to quarantine his girlfriend, with whom he was spending time since his return from Africa. ... "

Oh man. I didn't even think of that. How on earth do you track down the guy who used the same bowling balls after Dr. Ebola walked out the door?

Might as well get out the bulldozer and raze THAT bowling alley. They are cooked and done.

Be Well

may all be well
Rummer, that is what is making me angry, they know we are not equipped to handle this, and there is no way to be equipped without zero risk, or even minimum risk. I have neighbors, friends, family and associates in every aspect of emergency response and I know first hand they do not have the proper equipment, training, organization or protocols in place. These are people who already put their lives on the line for us every day with great risk, we are upping that by 1000 fold and it doesn't have to be that way. The risks can be contained over there because of the proximity and little access to international or even intranational travel due to geographic challenges. We know how to do this right, it is very hard for me to understand why Obama is refusing to listen to the experts and public on this? All of us get it. Why doesn't he? I know this question will elicit many possibilities, but where is Congress, where is the Military? I hate feeling like we are living under a dictatorship by a different name.

YES!

Sweet Jesus. This "doctor" has been home for 10 days...worked directly with ebola patients in an environment that has claimed about 300 health care workers and untold thousands of others. He decides to get in a car..and THEN goes to a bowling alley? and he's getting symptoms? If this dumb f*ck survives, they should reopen alcatraz and lock his ass up!!!

Today at work we got "the powerpoint of the day" from our EMS officer, who essentially told us, "ahh it's no big deal, we've our dispatchers asking the right questions and chances are that if they get so sick they are symptomatic, well then they'll already be at the hospital" When I asked, "well, how are they getting there, by star trek transporter" all I got was a blank stare...

Yeah, we're so screwed, first those of us in Fire/ems, ambulance and pd.

So the doctor is working with Ebola patients in Guinea. Comes back to the US. Doesn't quarantine himself. I heard a quote the other day:

"The greatest obstacle to discovering the shape of the Earth,
the continents and the oceans, was not ignorance, but the illusion of knowledge."

~Daniel Bornstein, former Librarian to Congress

Doctors are so arrogant!

when are they going to finally figure out that these people like this doctor should be put in strict quarantine upon their return to the u.s?

I was told by my state to treat this as a "full hazmat" situation. Not to "rush in" on a potental Ebola patient and use the buddy system. That EMS officer should check his e-mail updates.
BTW, Dartmouth Hitchcock will be the hospital in NH to send Ebola patients.

The doctor used Uber to get around. I imagine Uber will take a big hit after this news. So will any establishment he's found to have visited. All these losses should be factored into the costs of not having a travel ban.

And look at Doctor Nancy Snyderman. Good grief. These well-educated types are supposed to be better than this, and to have learned a little "impulse control." What's going to happen when the unwashed masses are put into quarantine?

duh-duh-duh...
there was a reason over a hundred years ago Ellis Island quarantined folks that got off the boat

I haven't posted here in a loooooong time, but I can tell you from first hand experience (I work as an inspector for a local health department) that this entire situation is insane. From what I am seeing, this whole thing is like trying to capture a greased pig...never gonna happen. The only appropriate way to prevent an outbreak here is to close the borders to any and all from the affected areas. It's costing us a fortune to do cleanup after the fact, never mind the danger our fellow citizens and health care workers are put in. Everything that we are having to do here is totally unnecessary if people would just be stopped from entry in the first place; Want to come in? Fine; you're under quarantine over there for 60 days, on your dime, before being allowed to travel here. Period. Local public health and government is livid with what's going on.

just heart Wolf Blitzer on CNN say the military strike team is getting ready to deploy.

That should be a positive thing but, and I don't know why, for a moment that scared the willies out of me. Too many sci fi movies, I guess.

The military team, and not the CDC team? Wonder why?
they started out in the news feed saying "military strike team" and showed military folks constructing quanson tents, etc. but now I notice they're saying "CDC team". they don't want to scare the sheeple.

Two different groups, I believe. The military team would be the new rapid response team training/trained at Ft Sam. CDC would be the 'usual' folks.

If Doctors who have SEEN Ebola death at work are doing this, just imagine how J6P coming home from an Africa visit is doing. Out on the town partying, flying, cruises, grocery stores, malls, buses, subways, home depot, costco, halloween candy, etc. Goodbye Brains. These are the Zombies.

According to local news (WABC) it will take at least 12 hours for the test results.

But a patient barfing on a plane only has to be "seen" by -- not a doctor, but a mere paramedic -- and instantly, like magic, they "just know" he does NOT have ebola!

In total agreement! If you want to live in America, pay the price like our forefathers did. Which includes Elias Island, proving you are healthy, have a job waiting, etc. What's happening now is like a scene from Poltergist when Tangina says, "All are welcome."
