CHAT Well, I can see why people would rather collect Covid-enhanced unemployment than work

Those honey do lists retired about 5 years ago.

Now it's just for upkeep of the place. Like mowing, repairing mowers, finding parts to repair mowers, in between rains, cuz all my work is outside. Spending half a day trying to find, not only an inner tube for lawn tractor, but a place to put it in, if I find one somewhere like TSC that might sell the tube, but won't install. I don't have a lot, I have 1 1/4 acres so a push mower is out. And I only have one recliner and keep it indoors. Even with a four foot deck takes almost 2 hours, Then weed eat, and sometimes that needs some work replacing the eater part, and greasing the gears annually.

Then I have to roundup the driveway, and the edge of the yard so the woods won't crepe into the yard, especially the kind with runners which always knows "It's the yard".

Then spray the yard for weeds, because if you don't, you'll be mowing every few days instead of every two weeks.

Since I got that done, now I'm waiting for the rain and soggy ground to dry, to put down termite drugs, and then spraying the house for boring bees. I've built traps which work pretty good, but don't get them all. Meaning earlier, I spent several days cutting, nailing, and designing those bee traps. Not to mention driving to town to get the wood. Which every few weeks needs emptying (upkeep).

When it's raining I'm inside so like reloading, researching genealogies, Bible Studies, reading Preston and Child books.

And then during the two week off period from mowing, I need to put water repellant on the deck, which needs to be cleaned first, and since I've got the cleaner out, I might as well clean the house for mold and mildew on the north side. All for upkeep and maintenance.

And since we had a storm come through last night and lost power for 3 hours, there are limbs, big limbs laying all over the yard which need picking up.

Most people do upkeep on their auto's like change oil, and don't consider that honeydo lists.

So like I said I haven't had a day off since I retired, but I don't mind either.

And having a honey for nearly 45 years is awesome, so those were cool too.

That was my husband's life until I got sheep. Now the mower is sold, the weed eater comes out maybe once a season. A bit of fence and two sheep ( hair sheep that don't need shearing) and your 1 1/4 acres would be immaculately manicured! In fact you might need to split it in to two sections so that one half could grow a bit while the other is being grazed. Driving around in circles on a mower is a lot of "life" that you won't get back. At least that's the way I see it. More time for reloading and other important, more enjoyable stuff.

I find this information very timely, as I was just told that next Friday will be my last day.

I need to review my “packet”, but I understand there is a reasonable amount of severance in it.

I’ll need to see how severance and unemployment work in regard to each other.

Find out your COBRA options for health care. If you are being let go due to downsizing you may be eligible for the feds to pay your COBRA premiums for eighteen months or until the federal disaster ends. I just got a notice that I may be eligible.

I don’t know. Txstew. I filed for my first two weeks. I got $834. They said one week is not paid unless you run out of benefits. Then I filed two weeks later and got $2505. I don’t see how it could be for three weeks. I’m afraid to call them this time - lol.

In Oklahoma's system, you can go online and look at everything regarding your claim, including the amount paid and what time period it represents. If Texas has the same type of system, you might try going on there to see what you can see so that maybe you don't have to call them.

Yes, in Texas you can set up an online account and it list everything you've been paid by the week. Best keep a job search log and make three searches each week. Get caught faking it, and they will jump all over you with charges, demand back pay, and bar any future claim. They want to drop people bad.
