CHAT Well, I can see why people would rather collect Covid-enhanced unemployment than work

Yep, when a government makes sure that you get paid more for not working then working the vast majority of people will choose to take the 'dole' and do what they want. That's been proven throughout time. It's human nature.

It's one thing to be a safety net and another for politicians to purposely use the system to destroy it to gain more control.

The old saw - "Will the last one working, turn out the lights when you leave" has a basis in truth.

And here’s the kicker: my former employer wants to put me on a T&M contract for 50-100 hours of additional work. I told them $65/hr. They didn’t bat an eye. Now if they can get off their asses and get the exec approval completed…

I just got my first full UI check with the Covid addition.

$2500. For two weeks.

WTF???
I know it isn't a pleasant thing taking UE, but they are throwing money around. Take it.

Yeah, I don't know how Texas works, but $965 per week was common here in GA for a while.

It is now $665 per week until September.

My opinion, if it is enough, enjoy it for a few weeks, get healthy and all the while doing a selective job search.

You have unique chance to be selective on your job search.

Holy shit! I didn't realize it was like that......
Yeah, it is.

Georgia is a cheap state, but even then they were giving as much as $965 for a while. It is now $665 per week. I understand California can go as much as $450 plus the fed addition of $300-$600 depending upon when you drew it.

I didn’t say it wasn’t good for me on a personal basis. But DAMN! Somebody has to pay for that, KWIM? I feel very guilty getting that much. It seems obscene to me.
We are all paying for it with inflation. That is the bottom line.

Yet, while it is obscene, you need to take care of yourself and your future. So take all you can and work for a better future.

Up to now it is simply just printing money, but when they raise taxes on earners, I may have a different opinion.

Somebody has to pay for that

Not any more. That is what MMT is all about. And they BELIEVE that. They really believe it. And think they can get away with it.

There was a WW2 destroyer on radar picket duty in the Pacific hit by a kamikaze directly amidships from straight overhead after a screaming dive. And the thing was carrying a bomb. Folded the tin can up bow to stern and it went down in a matter of seconds.

That may well be our economic future.

Thus is why you should currently enjoy all you can while you can.

Don't feel guilty. It's the current rules of the game, so take advantage of it while it's in your favor because sooner rather than later "they" will change the rules and you'll be on the losing side.

Yeah, if it were tax collections they're handing out, there would be a limit to them.

But on the road to socialist utopia, no delusion or fakery is too much.

Apparently there is a free lunch, at least for awhile.

Invest in yourself, or buy something real while you can.

Good for me?? Taxpayers are paying for every penny of the “extra.” That’s not good for ANYONE. And certainly not good for employers desperate for workers!

Word of the Day.

Pay attention folks-this is going to **** up the rest of what they have not managed to **** up already.

All that money looks great ATM but, in a few months a Wheelbarrow of it won't buy you a slice of Bread unless the Baker needs fuel for the fire.

WOW. That’s what my DIL brings home after taxes and health insurance and she makes 115K per year before taxes.

This too shall pass.
note to all you seniors out there on the SS:
Start exercising, lose some weight, buy some spiffy threads
and go back to work
because they are not going to adjust your SS for this kind of inflation

Yup. I know it, and am prepping for it. Between my daughter's disability and my SS, we get in a month about what Dennis is getting in a week right now! But I'm trying to wisely use the money from those so-called stimulus checks.

Back last year when all the covid stuff was just getting started good. I got laid off for about 5 months I think at the time my UI was 960.00 a week . I used the little extra each week to pay off or down my bills . I'm in a much better place now to weather the coming storm.

I know others that just blew the extra money on crap.

If there's anything you need to stock up on for you or the furry beasts, this is a great opportunity! Fill any holes in your pantry to keep you going as long as possible, space permitting, because we all know prices are going to go up.

Taking extra classes sounds like an excellent idea! More certifications = more employment opportunity/stability going forward, it would seem.

Hell, DH and I together do not get that much in a month from ss. By the grace of God we each have a couple of other small income streams that help drastically.

Dennis, take the money and run, so to speak. Buy yourself a good solar generator to run your c-pap.

God is good all the time
