I have to say that our diet is actually more restrictive than hers. But ours are actually proven issues. The biggest problem at the moment is that my son's diet and keto don't mesh well. So I find myself having to cook two different versions of meals for quite a few of our basic meals. But I'm working it out.

I have no problem with the restrictions you have, because of you and your son. None at all. Totally understandable.

DDIL drinks 5 gallons of purified water a day, supposedly, to keep her body cleansed. Who drinks that much water a day? (She carries a large jug of water everywhere she goes), and would live off of kale, spinach, carrots, eggs, and baked chicken/turkey if she could, but she has DS to cook for, too. He has no food restrictions, either, and he also thinks she overdoes it, but to keep the peace, he goes along with her and her beliefs.

5 gallons?? No way! I tend to drink about a gallon a day, same with carrying my jug everywhere I go, and I’m constantly drinking from the time I wake up to when I go to bed, and the best I’ve ever done (middle of summer, heavy prolonged exertion) was 2 gallons. HOW does the human body good 5?!

You can have issues from too much water..it will wash out your electrolytes.

Keeper, when we pick up beef, firt thing I do I can all the stew meat and make a huge pot of stock (or several) with the soup bones and can the stock. Freezer space 8s limited, and that helps a lot!

I don't know how she does it, but she's constantly drinking water and peeing. I really don't think her drinking that much water is good for her, but I just keep my mouth shut.

Sherree~ Your posts on the other thread was very clear that food issues of any kind was not a problem and I don’t recall you in anyway knocking anyone that did have issues, nor did I. I don’t know why my reply of the many replies on that thread was singled out especially since my reply was just letting you know that I understood your hurt feelings. When I pointed out that perhaps the replies to your posts should be re-read, I was accused of being condescending. I’m not interested in making a big stink out it but I won’t be accused of something I’m not guilty of without defending myself. I’ve asked the person why my thread was singled out but I still haven’t gotten an answer. You didn’t say anything wrong and neither did I.

Judy~We always preferred the meat from does over bucks, just had a less gamey taste. One year DH got a nice size buck and I guess it was still in rut. As soon as I got within 10 ft of where he had it hanging, the smell was sooo strong I told him not to even bother with it. He didn’t listen and the first time I cooked some of it, ugh it smelled even worse. DH and DD still wanted to eat it but they only managed a bite or two LOL. We never cared for the ground meat except to make jerky with it and we made lots of that!

Granddaughter is feeling better and is back with us today. She’s loves to be outside and even though it’s 33 and a bit breezy she still needed/wanted her outside time. She ran back and got her sunglasses and said she didn’t want her eyes to get sunburned! I did manage to get the living room under control yesterday, of course we now have baby dolls and clothes strewn around!

I didn't understand why she singled you out, either. I wanted to try and clear things up for her, and that's the reason for my new post. I knew exactly where you were coming from, and your comments were appreciated then, and now.

There is nothing wrong with what she eats. We eat the same foods, except for the kale and spinach. I would hate to live my whole life with only eating that limited choice of foods, because of something she read on the internet as the sole reason. There are extremes to everything, even food.

Wow! If she actually consumes that much water, she's in serious danger of causing major, potentially fatal, electrolyte imbalances. I've got to say, I don't think that's possible, honestly.

Your DDIL has an eating disorder. And from the sounds of it, it's getting worse.

I admit I could be wrong about the amount of water she drinks, but I'm not far off. Believe me, she is as extreme about her intake of water as she is about everything else. I have watched her drink 2 whole gallons while she's been at my house just in one afternoon. She has it measured out in gallon jugs, LOL.

You're right in that she has developed an eating disorder, and it's affecting her health.

Like I said, I don't think it's good for her. I do believe that most of all her real health problems stem from that. Muscle cramps and low energy. Now, she's having heart palpitations, and will be fitted for a heart monitor next week.
WHOA! OK. As I said... she's in extreme danger of serious electrolyte imbalance, if she's drinking ANYwhere near 5 gallons a day. And now you say she's having symptoms of exactly that!

See if your son can make sure her doctor is aware of her "diet", and especially her water consumption.

I was going to ask you how her general health was, on this diet. If she looked and felt great... well, everyone is different. But she's gonna kill herself.

I’ve been on the lookout for a good pressure canner! But some of these prices, holy Stromboli, I wanna puke! The soup bones honestly shocked me. I’ve been buying marrow bones for my dogs for years, so I requested all the bones (they were free, why not?) and the MEAT left on the soup bones! I am NOT giving that to my dog. I’m researching all the best ways to make bone broth, then I plan to freeze/vacuum seal small portions for easy use.

But youre right, water intoxication is a real thing and has resulted in several deaths, especially college/military hazing. Can’t chug alcohol, so chug water, right? There was recently an article that they think it was water intoxication that killed Bruce Lee.

I concur. It’s orthorexia, and it’s disordered eating around ‘healthy eating ideals’. I’m a big water drinker, and I bring my 1/2 gallon metal bottles EVERYWHERE, but I’m happy when I clear the thing in a day, my usual is more like 2 containers, and in the middle of summer (on the boat, farm work) I’ve been known to drink 4 container fulls (2 gallons) but that’s EXTREME heat and exertion, and sometimes, hangovers.

If she’s not compensating with salt…she’s putting her kidneys in EXTREME distress. I usually add a good pinch of pink Himalayan salt to my 1/2 gallon jug just to make sure I don’t accidentally kick my electrolytes out of whack, plus, the salinity helps your intestines absorb the fluid rather than just flushing it straight out.

first post op visit following CTR on the right side Tuesday past (11.28). released both the median and ulnar nerves at the wrist. tried unsuccessfully to manage it conservatively myself for a good 3 plus years and ultimately came to this end. got to the point I couldn't drive longer than 5 min or sleep on the right shoulder longer than about 3 min and we'd be off to the races with burning and tingling- sometime as far up as mid upper arm. it had to be done and I wanted it domne before what was left of the healthcare system completely collapsed.

so the cock up is off and the wrist is still pretty sore. I can deal with that. but the restrictions are well beyond what I expected - specifically NO vibratory tools hammering etc . . . all expected. but the absolute worst is NO lifting over 1-2 lbs continuing the next 8 weeks. gonna be difficult for me becasue I don't really have an off switch. and sitting here watching her feed 2 stoves is gonna drive me nutz. good thing I put as much wood up on the porch as I did before hand.

I'm quite sure we'll have an incredible outcome - ultimately - but this side is FAR more involved than the opposite side was. no strengthening for 8 weeks. I can't wait to get into some well structured hand physical therapy and move through this. gotta be back on line to start seed beds and plants under the grow lights.

Same. I'm worried with port placement tomorrow, they'll tell me no lifting. I get it, but c'mon! I got stuff to do!

Bone broth is easy. Soup bones water, a little salt, a splash of vinegar, and herbs. I use immune support herbs like reishi mushroom and astragalus. Cook ot for a couple days in the crockpot or on the woodstove, adding water as needed.

And when we get meat, I want EVERYTHING. If I can't eat it, the dogs can.

I know someone that ended up in the hospital because of drinking too much water. Hoping that doesn't happen to here.

Having a good day. Started new job. So much saner.
seems to me a bit back (like in 3-4 years ago) there was some kind of "challenge" going around on social media involving how much water you could dink in a given time frame. . . IIRC there were actually a few people who DIED becasue of it. anyone else recall that?

Did you say…DAYS?? I’ve used my crockpot on low for for 24 hours, and instant pot once (followed directions, but it seemed…bitter?)

But…days??

I make it a practice to drink a minimum of 64 oz of WATER every day . . . vast majority of summer days my actual consumption will approach 96 oz. two gallons 108 is a possibility - but pretty rare
1 gallon = 128 ounces, 2 gallons is is 256!!

Judy I have done intermittent fasting for several years. I eat first meal late morning and last meal at 6. That is easy for me and I don't get hungry. You can adjust your eating window to what works best for you and your schedule. I had let my weight creep up some and needed to lose it. It's been at least a couple of years and I've lost the weight. Faster at first and then more slowly. I will just continue it to maintain.

I've done intermittent fasting off and on for years, but just could not seem to get back to it. then I remembered back in 2013 when I lost 40# that I didn't eat after 5:00. Until last night I'd been not eating after 4:00 and was not hungry. But I caved last night and ate pizza, and it was lousy. Today I've eaten a little less than 500 calories and I'm fine. Gonna do the Alternate Day Fasting, one day you eat whatever and the next day 500 calories or less. On the what ever day I simply cannot eat what ever I want that may add up to a lot of calories and I know that. I'll be fine and hopefully lose some weight. Drinking water and coffee helps.

I just got back from visiting Mom. I took her a jar of my home canned ground beef to try. She was excited about it and said that she was going to make her a small pot of spaghetti with it, tonight. She's leaving for 2 weeks to visit her sister in Alabama, tomorrow.

Cary and I were talking about our conversation here about how much water DDIL drank in a day's time. I was wrong about the 5 gallons. He said that she easily drinks 3 gallons a day, though. He also reminded me that she not only drinks the water to keep her body cleansed, but so she stays full so as not to gain any weight.

As for DS going to see her doctor with her. She is totally against that. She only tells her doctor what she wants her to know. Her doctor probably has no clue as to her eating or drinking habits. If any medication is prescribed, she decides what she will take and what she won't. She refuses any and all antibiotics and steroids. I can understand some of that, but like with food and water, she is extreme about that, too. Sometimes, I wonder why she even bothers going to a doctor when she throws most prescriptions away, instead of filling them.

5 gallons of water is not good but what's really wrong with what she eats? Kale is very healthy, full of b vitamins.

Happy dance. And being so grateful. Put in 7 hours of work and did not finish up feeling exhausted. Managed to get a while chunk of to-do list things done because I'm not fighting a headache and exhaustion.

New boss is happy because I am, one, working faster than she expected. And two, catching a few things that she can fix now rather than when she's buried at tax time. And I caught on to a few QB quirks that meant I caught some extra things for my current task.

But honestly, finishing the day without a fried brain is such a blessing. And having a boss who is thrilled because I can self start and self regulate is a bonus.

Nothing is wrong with what she eats for those who like kale. We don't, but that's us. She is free to eat all the kale she wants, but to live off of just that and a very few other foods is crazy. We also hate spinach, but she is free to eat all of that she wants, too. We prefer a mixed green salad mixed with lots of other healthy foods ( olives, shredded cheese, cucumber, tomatoes, bacon, chopped boiled eggs, bell pepper, etc.) over just plain kale or spinach.

I'm sorry to drag this on and on but you and Caryc are free to eat what you please and so should she with out criticism. But then again I'm partial to spinach and kale, although I do like a few other things in a salad, but not ice burg lettuce. But never ever olives, they are disgusting, I may have tasted one once which is probably why I'm so adverse about them, that a pomento cheese, totally disgusting. My mother tried to get me to eat that stuff and I'm would have rather starved, I'm sure I got slapped in the face about it, which was normal. I know people that love olives and pomento cheese, to each his own.

I’ve been busy doing some cleaning that didn’t happen last week due to being sick. Although I’ve been better most of this week, I still have lingering symptoms that seem worse yesterday and today, mostly sinus and chest congestion. I’m so ready for this to move on.

I made pot roast and veggies in the instant pot for supper last night. I‘m planning on adding some frozen veggies and possibly a pint of ground beef depending on how much roast is left after DH had some for his lunch today, and turning it into soup for tonight. It wasn’t a huge roast and DD and children ate with us last night, but the leftover broth etc. is always a great base for soup.

It‘s a really gloomy/dreary day here and somewhat warmer.

I still haven’t gotten to the pantry this week but DH did move some things off the floor so that will make it easier for me to move around a little better. I’ve got some ideas about changing a few things with the shelving, in there that I believe will make things easier to organize and find things! But it will take some hard work and I’ll need help so I want to get my ideas nailed down in my head before I present them to DH LOL.

I'm making a big pot roast with carrots, onions, and potatoes in my crockpot, along with pinto beans and cornbread for our supper, tonight. There will be leftovers, too. I usually cook big, so we can eat leftovers the second night.

I outgrew my pantry room some time back. So, I started stacking canned veggies in our bedroom by the cardboard flats. I woke up last night from a noise near my side of the bed. I lay there for a while and just listened. It sounded like a mouse chewing on one of the flats. This morning, Cary put fresh mouse/rat poison all around in the pantry room and over behind the flats that are stacked in our bedroom (well out of the way of our dog). I almost made him get up in the middle of the night to get it taken care of. I was afraid that I would wake up this morning and find some of my plastic jugs eaten into, but I could find no signs of anything.

We have rain moving in later tonight, through Tuesday. It's been cloudy, breezy, and warm, today. 62 right now.

We've been away from the house in town getting DH's pre op for his ear surgery on Monday. We have to be there at 5:00 am, they said he was first, haha. Its gonna be a long day. The VA provides us with a hotel room on Sunday night, so at least we won't have to get on the road two hours earlier than that. Thank good ness DH has an excellent since of direction because when the nurse was telling us how to get to where the surgery will be the directions went right over my head. I won't have any trouble getting out of there though, just turn on the GPS to home.

I will be glad when this is all behind us.

Thank you dear Sherree. I guess I'm anxious about it.
I know the feeling! I hope and pray Cary never has to have surgery again. I almost made myself sick over it last time with my anxiety issues. When he was discharged from the hospital, it was dark, and I had to drive home. I can barely see to drive at night. I was praying all the way home that I would be able to see well enough to get us there.
