Ukraine says it will not back down to Russian pressure

Ukraine says it will not back down to Russian pressure

Ukraine maintained Saturday that it will not back down to pressure from Russia amid increased hostilities along the border between the two countries.
Ukrainian Defense Minister Andrii Taran said Russia was trying to force Kiev to cave in negotiations by ramping up its military presence on the border, but he declared that Ukraine would not let up fighting.

“[T]he actual goals of building up of military presence by the Russian Federation alongside the Ukrainian border and at the temporary occupied territory of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, might be the increase of pressure on Ukraine for the purpose of forcing it to yield in the course of the negotiation process,” Taran said in a statement Saturday.
“The flames of hostilities incendiated [sic] by Russia are only to be tamed in a political and diplomatic manner. Ukraine initially aims at a civilized way of returning its temporarily occupied territories. However, there should be no compromise in terms of standing for the interests of Ukraine,” he added.

The statement marks the latest barb in increasing tensions between Kiev and Moscow.
Fighting between the Ukrainian military and Russian-backed separatists in the eastern part of the country has increased, and Russia’s military buildup on the border is just the latest in a string of aggressive postures.
The Kremlin has threatened to breach the border, with senior Kremlin official Dmitry Kozak last week warning that Russia would be ready to defend citizens living in eastern Ukraine.
Later on in his statement, Taran called on Western nations to rebuff Russia’s latest threats, recognizing that Ukraine alone will be too weak to combat the country's aggression.

“The Russian Federation is to understand that any active aggression and escalation in terms of the security environment will lead to a clear and strong response of the international community. The most convincing and effective mechanism to present the firm, sustainable and uncompromised position of the international community to Moscow’s officials, particularly of the European and Euro-Atlantic countries as for supporting Ukraine,” Taran said.
Ukraine last week announced that it will hold joint military drills with NATO troops later this year, following Russia’s military maneuvers.

Secretary of State Antony Blinken held calls with his French and German counterparts Friday in which they discussed “the importance of supporting Ukraine against unilateral Russian provocations along the Line of Contact in eastern Ukraine, in occupied Crimea, and along Ukraine’s borders as well as the need for Russia to immediately cease its military buildup and inflammatory rhetoric.”

United States Mission to the OSCE
Meeting Requested by Ukraine under Vienna Document Chapter III Regarding Unusual Russian Military Activity

April, 10, 2021

Thank you Madame Chair,
The United States welcomes the decision by Ukraine to request this meeting regarding the Russian military activities near Ukraine’s border and in occupied Crimea. We take note of Russia’s notification on April 9 that it “does not engage in any significant military activity that is required to be reported under the Vienna Document 2011 on Confidence and Security Building Measures.” We also note Russia’s clear statement that “all activities carried out in the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation and related movement of military units in the zone of application of CSBMs are carried out within the framework of combat training and do not require notification.”
While this response from Russia is duly noted, the United States had hoped to use this meeting to clarify the situation on the ground regarding the location, dates, and purpose of the military activity and information on the forces involved as Ukraine had requested under Vienna Document Chapter III. Russia’s decision to not attend this meeting will make that impossible. This is precisely the type of detailed discussion that would make our meeting fruitful.

We are concerned by Russia’s refusal to provide sufficient information about these unusual military activities under Chapter III. Russia’s uninformative response to Ukraine’s questions – and its non-transparent activities on the ground – are inconsistent with the letter and spirit of the Vienna Document, which was adopted by consensus by all 57 members of the OSCE, including Russia, to serve as a lasting source of cooperation and military transparency. Paragraph 16.1.3 states that the reply to a request for an explanation of unusual military activities “will give answers to questions raised, as well as any other relevant information in order to explain the activity in question and dispel the concern.” Russia’s response did not answer the questions raised in Ukraine’s request.
Ukraine’s concern regarding Russian military activities and intentions are very real. In 2014, Russia similarly failed to provide detailed information about its unusual military activities on Ukraine’s border in response to Ukraine’s Vienna Document paragraph 16 request and similarly refused to attend meetings to clarify Ukraine’s concerns. It swiftly became clear in 2014 that Ukraine’s concerns were well founded.

We are concerned that Russia is refusing to fulfill the commitments it assumed under the Vienna Document 2011 and engage in dialogue to provide reassurance to its neighbor Ukraine, and all participating States. This is the moment for Russia to dispel the concerns of its neighbors and OSCE partners regarding the character of its current military activities near Ukraine’s border. The absence of transparency suggests this is not a routine nor previously scheduled military exercise.
These ongoing provocative Russian military actions reduce confidence and increase tension and raise questions about intentions, particularly given the history of events since 2014.
Thank you Madame Chair.

I have a feeling the Russians are going to start jamming the ground surveillance radars on the RQ-4s. Also wouldn’t be surprised if they started messing with the RC-135s.
Backfire-3's are Russia's equivalent of the B-1...................Primarily missile carriers for standoff missiles.
They can be used tactically but most of the stuff they carry is long range cruise missles.
Again, Russia is thinking AND acting strategically. It's not just Donbass and the Crimea they're after.
Yes, and the Backfires might be used against any American warship in the Black Sea.

Russia Threatens ‘Full-Scale Military Activities’ in East Ukraine

The Kremlin warned on Friday “full-scale military activities” could occur in eastern Ukraine, blaming increased tensions on the Ukrainian government even as Moscow continues massing forces along the border, to the growing concern of Europe and the United States.

“There are concerns that Ukraine’s civil war will resume. And if a civil war with full-scale military activities resumes near our borders, it will pose a threat to Russia’s national security,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said at a press conference on Friday. Peskov carefully referred to the situation as a “civil war” despite Ukraine extensively accusing Russia of meddling by supporting and equipping separatist rebels in the region.

“The current developments and Ukraine’s behavior in general create the risk of full-scale military activities. It is clear from various statements that Kyiv does not completely reject the idea of using force to resolve its issue with the southeast,” Peskov claimed.

The Kremlin said on Friday that German Chancellor Angela Merkel asked Russian President Vladimir Putin to de-escalate the situation by pulling his forces back from the Ukrainian border. Putin replied that Russia “has a right to move its military forces around its territory the way it likes.”

Fox News on Thursday rounded up various analysts who said Putin is most likely bluffing, playing to domestic audiences with a bit of militarized nationalist posturing, reminding the West that Russia is still a significant military threat, goading the United States into spending more on advanced weapons, or throwing a fit after President Joe Biden called him a “killer.” None of these analysts thought Russia was making serious plans to invade Ukraine.

The BBC was less sanguine, quoting a top Russian official’s warning that Moscow is ready to “intervene to help Russian-speaking residents in eastern Ukraine if Ukraine launches an all-out assault on separatists there.”

“Everything depends on the scale of the conflagration,” said Dmitry Kozak, deputy head of Putin’s administration.
Kozak said that if Ukraine does something to warrant Russian intervention, it could be the “beginning of the end” for its existence as an independent nation, warning that Moscow will respond with “not a shot in the leg, but in the face.”

Putin and his officials have been suggesting for several years that Ukraine may be planning an ethnic cleansing campaign against ethnic Russians in the eastern Donbass region. Kozak compared the alleged threat to the 1995 slaughter of Muslims in Srebrenica by Bosnian Serbs.

“If, as our president says, there is a Srebrenica there, we shall probably have to come to their defense,” Kozak said of Donbass.

Russia’s military presence on the Ukrainian border has reportedly reached levels not seen since Russia annexed the Crimean peninsula in 2014. Ukrainian officials generally downplay the possibility of major escalation, while expressing concern about the death of Ukrainian soldiers from shells fired by the Donbass separatists.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky visited the front lines in Donbass on Friday. He said the ceasefire agreement has been “systematically violated in recent days” by the separatists, and told his forces to maintain their “fighting spirit.”

“Thank you for keeping people calm and defending our land,” Zelensky told the troops as he presented several awards.

The Turkish government announced on Friday that two U.S. Navy warships will sail through the Bosporus Strait next Wednesday, en route to the Black Sea. A Turkish Foreign Ministry official said the notification was passed through “diplomatic channels” 15 days ago. U.S. forces in the Black Sea are well-positioned to monitor Russian activity on the Ukrainian border.

Russia criticized the announced Black Sea deployment for “creating false illusions” in the minds of Ukrainians and giving the U.S. a pretext to “strengthen their own presence in the region.”

Donetsk on fire from barrage of explosions - Russians talk about Ukrainian war operation - Provocation? They're all back in combat positions.

WarNews 247
April 10 2021

An extremely serious incident with a provocateur smell occurred in Donetsk as a fire broke out at a factory with food warehouses in the city centre.

Initial information from the Russians speaks of a "series of explosions heard" before the outbreak of the fire.

A war alarm has already been sounded in Donetsk. Russian media are talking about military mobilization as everyone has returned to the camps and is in combat positions.

They're going to throw it at the Ukrainians.

The Russians seem to be trying to throw it at the Ukrainian saboteurs as it is the factory that fed the city meat while it had large food warehouses.

In fact, some people are already talking about a drone that dropped bombs.

The incident raises suspicions as it comes at a strange time. The Zelenski-Erdogan meeting was over.

At the same time, Russia refused to attend the OSCE meeting on Ukraine, calling the case "finished."

If we now combine this incident with the interruption of water to Crimea from Kiev, then it is understood what the Russians will formally claim.

What Russian media are reporting

"A large fire broke out in Donetsk at a meat production and processing plant. The reasons so far are unknown although eyewitnesses have reported a series of explosions that preceded the fire.

Witnesses speak of bomb blasts heard clearly before the fire

The fire is raging on Ilyich Avenue in the Kalininsky district, in the capital of Donetsk.

The fire has covered much of the plant while firefighters battle

Traffic has stopped.

We do not yet know if there are any human casualties."

I sure hope China doesn't see this as an opportunity to invade while the West is distracted because the full extent of the moves against Russia are putting 2 Arleigh Burkes in the Black Sea and flying like 2 extra ELINT missions per week

I'm being sarcastic here. The US has deployed a miniscule number of assets to the black sea. There is a CSG sailing in the South China Sea right now.

A reader sends:
I guess these have been out for a while, but have only recently been redone with English voice over and subtitles.
The most up-close video of war I’ve ever seen. Because it was obviously shot by participants on the video devices everyone now has (cell phones, cheap digital cameras, etc.)
This seems topical now in two ways. First off, the retard in the White House is sending clear messages to Ukraine that we will support their desire to recover the territory they lost to Russia in 2014. That’s just a crazy thing for them (USA) to be doing.
The Ukrainians fought hard (as you will see in the movie, which is from the Ukrainian point of view) but it was costly. About 10,000 soldiers died in the war – pretty evenly split about 5,000 each to the Russian and Ukraine side. The Ukrainians lost over 300 tanks! This wasn’t a little border dispute, it had major tank battles.
So, for the USA to “help” we would have to send in real US Army mechanized infantry! I guess we did do that in Desert Storm, but the Iraqis famously took off their uniforms and fled rather than fight. The Russians aren’t going to do that in their own backyard.
Another reason to watch it is it pre-figures possible conflict in the USA. The Ukrainians refer to the people they are fighting as insurgents and separatists. So Ukraine was willing to use tanks on their own people to force them to stay in the country. It’s interesting to watch. Ir reminds me of a lot of bullshit sessions over beers with a couple close friends (one a Vietnam vet, the other a retired Major) where we ponder: Which side would the Army be on if Texas (or whichever) decided to split off? Well if they followed the Ukraine model they would throw everything at them. (And Texas et. al don’t have Russia to back stop them.)
Anyway, highly recommended and timely video, gents!

The amount of pro ukie bs is astounding. What are the ukies thinking? Do they seriously think the USA or NATO is going to forward deploy honest to God active duty combat troops to fight active duty Russian military? Are they REALLY that brain dead? Seriously.

It is EXACTLY like Chamberlains guarantees to Poland AFTER they had betrayed Czechoslovakia in 1938 and 1939.

I think "war" is inevitable at this point, but it will be a long range war, for the most part. It will be a war of drones, and AI controlled mobile weapons platforms. The Russians may not even invade Ukraine proper, just sit back and vaporize multiple targets at distance.

The TRANSGENDER ADMIRAL, AND GENERAL GENOCIDE are in for a rude surprise when his ships get blown out of the water, at distance, using anti-ship missiles. I mean the "war" will be over in 72 hours. It will redefine warfare since it will be conducted at distance, using drones, anti aircraft, anti ship and anti armor stand off weapons.

Artillery will also be a large factor, as Putin will be more than happy to stand back and pound the :poop: out of those naive, ukie fools who actually BELIEVE all the NATO and USA "we got your back," drivel.

Anyway, the Ukies have bought into the neo con warmongers agenda, and don't seem to get the fact they are cannon fodder, solely designed to shut down the Nord 2 pipeline, and keep the Russians from selling natural gas to Germany and pissing off the American energy companies.

Shock and awe Russian and Putin version coming right up.

Pretty much everything from the Ukies is drivel and lies, hopeless fantasy from people who don't realize they are being played by they elite. The Ukies may even think they can trust the Biden crime cabal based on previous dealings.

What fools, NAZI worshiping yahoos, being led by the nose by Nuland et al into the end of the Ukie nation.

I was a little surprised to see such a long range strtegic asset stationed so close to the front lines.

Likely the Russians are making a statement of their resolve. It also leaves NATO very little time to react to these planes being sortied.

Hello London, Paris and Berlin.

Anybody listening?

Tha Backfire 3m's the Russians are using have a mod useful to the current fun and games. Remember the "big belly" mod done on the B-52D models for conventional weapons delivery in North Vietnam? These backfires have a similar mod. The Backfire tends to hang their stores on pylons and so they have pylons fitted up so this thing can deliver iron bombs on target.
There's going to be near zero reaction time when these things pop off a runway. I don't think the Ukranians could scramble interceptors quick enough. But then again I don't think these will be used for front line bombings either.

It's clear London, Paris and Berlin are tone deaf. Utterly tone deaf.

The Ukrainian military said a soldier was killed and another seriously wounded in artillery fire from Russia-backed separatist rebels, as hostilities rose sharply in the east of the country.
As of the reported attack on Sunday, Ukraine says 27 soldiers have been killed in the east this year, more than half the number who died in all of 2020. Attacks have intensified in recent weeks and Russia has built up troops along the Ukraine border.

Russia denies western claims that it has sent troops into eastern Ukraine to help the rebels, but officials say the army could intervene if Ukraine tries to retake the area by force. The military buildup has raised sharp concerns in the west.

Antony Blinken said on Sunday: “If Russia acts recklessly, or aggressively, there will be costs, there will be consequences.”
The US secretary of state told NBC’s Meet the Press: “I have to tell you I have real concerns about Russia’s actions on the borders of Ukraine. That’s why we’re in very close contact, in close coordination, with our allies and partners in Europe. All of us share that concern.”
Ukrainian forces and Russia-backed separatists have been fighting in eastern Ukraine since shortly after Moscow’s 2014 annexation of Ukraine’s Crimean peninsula. More than 14,000 people have died in the conflict, and efforts to negotiate a political settlement have stalled.
The Kremlin, which has not denied the troop movements, said on Sunday it was not moving towards war with Ukraine – but also that it would “not remain indifferent” to the fate of Russian speakers in the conflict-torn region.
The White House this week said the number of Russian troops at the border with Ukraine was greater than at any time since 2014.
Fighting has subsided in the past few years but a diplomatic solution to settle the eastern regions’ status has remained out of reach. Crimea is still recognised as part of Ukraine by the United Nations, and Kiev has vowed to one day win it back.
Joe Biden, who previously oversaw Washington’s policies on Ukraine, is viewed as a strong ally by Ukrainians. Blinken, his top diplomat, agreed on supporting Ukraine against “Russian provocations”, in talks this week with his French and German counterparts.
