CHAT So you wake up on Dec 9th, and the railroad strike has occurred -- what are the first things you will do?

House lawmakers voted 290 to 137 on legislation that would force the adoption of a tentative labor agreement by rail workers, using the power of a 1926 law that allows Congress to intervene in railroad disputes that threaten to disrupt the U.S. economy.

I'm seeing on MSM that the Senate sided with the House, today. Some Republicans tried to get sick days added, but it didn't pass.

Exactly.

We’re also running out of diesel, right?

I got in SERIOUS trouble for pointing out that we regularly run that close, and even under Trump we went even lower, as far as ‘days to run out happens’.

Bread and circuses!

If you old foggies in Alabama and Mississippi get a break on property taxes after 65, why can’t we get one in Tennessee?

:bhd:

Because property taxes are the biggest ambiguous and arbitrary scam on the American people today, unless gov/media propaganda gets you down.

Without resistance, tyranny is some mighty smooth sailing.

Nothing POSITIVE in government ever happens by wishing things were different.

You will wake up on December 10th, to the exact same nothingburger you woke up to on January 1, 2000…….I care not that behind the scenes RR issues now and behind the scenes tech issues commencing 1997ish were/are real…..so is the fact that the Beast ain’t gunna spook it’s cash cow (the lobotomized American public) over no cliff.
I think you are forgetting the agenda behind this whole thing. The leaders of the world want a one world government, and they are willing to do anything to get it.

Fully aware of that agenda.

They have all the power they need to move the herd with propaganda and threats.

A sustained RR strike, in my estimation, would spiral society out of “their” control.

Huge risk.

Don’t see them taking that risk.

Manipulating the threat til it’s got ALL the flavor chewed out ?

Absolutely.

IN NO WISE am I saying stay at home and relax….all is well.

No….

Members of this board should be ready for anything, just as much as any inhabitant in this earth’s history should be ready for anything.

If they starve the stations for fuel, the power plants for coal, the grocery stores for food, etc., long enough for people to riot, lose their minds and berserk on any kind of scale, I will be amazed.

Slow and steady is working out fabulously for them.

Look what the country just rolled over and took in the south side for “them”, over the last 2-3 years.

Whatever “they” have planned next, for the American people…..all they need do is ask.

Nothing beyond the constant propaganda and manufactured boogeyman will be necessary.

When considering moving from the north to the south really look at your climate needs. We looked at a number of places and states but after "snowbirding" one winter we decided we needed the 4 seasons. South Carolina coast worked well for us. Just last week the leaves from my maple tree fell and the night got "cold." We have 2 or 3 snow storms each year - enough to make a mini snowman and have a snowball fight. Taxes and cost of living are very low. Summer, there are lots of farms in the state, especially inland, but the coast has changed in the last 10 years to a zoo of retirees and crazy traffic. There are a bunch of us on TB that would be glad to show you around our neighborhoods.

Well ......................since it's Summerthyme, but only close kin, no wagon train of folks LOL
Adriiiiiaaaaan I just want to say one thing....(from the movie Rocky) .........went to McD's in a local city and there, and I mean right there was a car with a New York tag. In our little bo-dunk city at the McD's was a car with a New York tag.

First thought that came to mind:

Is that Summerthyme checking us out?

Summerthyme was it?

From the sound of it, there will be no strike. I wonder in what way the would-be strikers will make their displeasure felt. I'm pretty confident we're going to pay for this, one way or another.

TAKE IT TO THE BANK
TAKE IT OUT OF THE BANK, as we'll be the ones paying for the RR workers' pay increases, by the RR owners jacking up freight transportation costs to pay for the RR workers' increases, and by the freight owners jacking up prices to pay for the RR owners' transportation increases.

Don't worry, the purported pay increase is a fraction of inflation. The workers aren't getting squat.

Accurate statement - just one among the many you’ve previously offered on this subject TL. Seems to me it’s still lost on some here that the REAL ISSUE for labor is SICK DAYS which remained very conveniently UN addressed by assklown central. Assuming (and IMHO its a HUGE assumption) that SHOULD these guys actually return to work its ALSO been forgotten that there are an UNCOUNTABLE NUMBER OF WAYS to sabotage get/slow down and otherwise “derail” pun INTENDED - the system. mind you - no violence need occur.

As I read through this thread It’s become very apparent that AMERICA has forgotten the power the unions once had in this country. Yes - I DID say ONCE - I chose the word PURPOSELY and I fully believe you’re going to see it ONCE AGAIN. This potential strike - unlike anything before it - EVER in our history of dealing with unions - does NOT affect a single industry - or even an “industrial sector” in the economy. THIS has the indisputable ability to affect THE ENTIRE NATION and to do so SIGNIFICANTLY as well as QUICKLY.

the only reasonably similar experience in our history would be the air traffic controllers and the way REAGAN dealt with them. handling this situation in a similar fashion is doomed to fail for reasons that have both been previously discussed but should be clear and evident anybody that chose to look.

I’ll go a step further. My father who at the time was a supervisor for GM at their Lordstown Ohio plant objected vigorously to the way REAGAN handled the strike. NOT because he hated Reagan (which he did) But because he (despite being in management at that point in his life ) held the grass roots blue collar view that the RIGHT TO COLLECTIVE BARGANING was inviolate and sacrosanct - that GOVERNMENT had no legitimate role to play in it. He wasn’t alone at the time; it was a view that many in the rust belt and other regions of the country - particularly those who’d had exposure to unions held as well.

We’ve become so incredibly cucked in this country that virtually NO ONE is willing to stand up for themselves UNLESS or UNTIL they’ve been pushed to the very limits - guess WHAT GROUP of individuals have arrived at that point?

This is NOT going to simply ”go away” due to some half assed, long overdue “government intervention” that missed the most crucial of labors concernes altogether. Quite the opposite. This MAY BE the resurgence of the attitude that BUILT this once great nation.

One final point - ALL OF THE ABOVE aside. as has been discussed on many occasions - here as well as on other threads - DEEPSTATE has a great interest in collapsing this country. Its been argued by some that they are NOT going to do so - “at least not quickly” - lets call it the “KASH KOW” point of view. Others here - myself included - have suggested that they’re NOT going to collapse it “quickly”. . . . until ”THEY DO”. There are multitudes of reasons - ALSO previously stated - that this MY WELL BE an opportune moment to do so. Once again I’ve been wrong before - may be this time as well - but I’m not willing to bet we’ll avoid some very serious issues with this - SHOULD it in fact materialize.

if you’re in the camp that believes this is a complete nothingburger and choose to completely ignore the potentially profound ramifications of it materializing please - continue on your merry way. we happened to have dinner with an otherwise highly intelligent couple last evening that share that very mindset with you. since they live up in the Cumberland I won’t be subjected to hearing the wailing and gnashing of teeth

You thought it was such a shame when the government decided entire classes of workers were non essential.

Yea, well this is what happens with the government decides a class of workers ARE essential.
Aaaaannnnnd saves the Unions (not the RR companies) thousands, maybe millions in paying out strike funds to the workers. 10% for the Big Guy, thank you Uncle Joe.

Vote Demoncrat harder.

I've a feeling that the "rule book" is going to be scrupulously followed on those Railroads from this day forward. Expect delays in the coming days as the operating department follows each rule to the absolute letter. You can't discipline someone for following the rules ya know. Hey pudding cup, this isn't going away. no matter what you spew from your pie hole.

It's possible those strike funds aren't actually there.
Whether they are there or not, or maybe I should say either way, it was pandering to the Union Bosses and not the workers. The bosses got their wishes.

In another report over at Brietbart (off topic so won't post) (?) where Bishops (wouldn't that be RCC leadership) were upset with Demoncrats over the Marriage Act. Doesn't the RCC leadership ALWAYS vote Demoncrat?

Got news for both groups Vote Demoncrat Harder!

'Course I could say the same thing since Republicans crossed the isle and voted WITH Demoncrats on both bills.

Vote Republican harder.

This is getting so much easier. Voting for one is like voting for the other.

Well, now that the RailRoadies have gotten their OF-FISH-ul menu (Fish) and they have found that the Catch of the Day is SCROD, the ball is in THEIR court.
We shall see what their reaction is.

(Pretty sure if I were a RR owning company I would NOT stop the strike precautions)

Don't take things at face value.

With the commies, assume the whole deal was scripted.

Union leadership is an arm of the Ds.

They want an effect that isn't quite obvious...yet.
If you know it's all headed to the toilet, pick an issue and blame that.

Pilots do a walkaround of their plane, or at least they should. Is there an equivalent for engineers? How long would it take to do a walkaround on a 200 car train, do you suppose?

If they want to work to the rules, and if this is not precluded by the rules, doing a walkaround would sure be one wrench to throw in the works.

Make it to work on time. Every direction I can go has a railroad crossing. Every time I'm running a bit behind I get stuck behind a train

Wait until that train travels at 2mph instead of 8mph through your crossings.:angl::D

That won't necessarily make anything better. Probably make you and everyone else mad. Sometimes there are no good options...

This used to be one of the brakeman's jobs. They would drop the headend brakeman off, roll the train past him, then stop and let him on the caboose. Now train inspections have gone high tech.

Au contraire......and just what makes you think "they" are going to follow their own rules?!? Dem's don't follow rules. CEO's don't follow rules. Corporations don't follow rules. TPTB don't follow rules. "They" make and break the rules on a whim to suit their satisfaction. "They" don't give a rats azz about the rats in the race at the bottom of the barrel, so long as the barrel keeps spinning around and making them money.

"Who is John Galt?" is what we need right now.

If all the workers walk away, regardless of what the POS in the white house says....what are they going to do about it? "THEY" can't run those trains. CEO's can't run those trains and if the Trucking unions follow suit...that could be the end of government control and the Dem's pipe dreams of governing forever. Just pull over and park everything for a week or two. Put that in their pipe and smoke it!
