CHAT So you wake up on Dec 9th, and the railroad strike has occurred -- what are the first things you will do?

Raggedy, you have spent WAY too many nights in an ED. LAST time a cup of coffee kept me vertical the whole night shift I got it in an ED. BLACK as the Ace of spades, hot as the Earl of Hell's waistcoat pocket and NO sugar nor whitener.
7 PM drop off. Did a cup of their coffee. I SLOWED DOWN around 4 and sagged a BIT by 7.

Yeah. NUTTIN LIKE ED Coffee.

N&W 382: The Virginia Creeper (2017)

Norfolk & Western #382, a 4-8-0 "Mollie" type locomotive, was built in 1906 by the Richmond Locomotive Works. A workhorse of the branch lines, the engine saw work over its lengthily lifetime notably on the Abingdon Branch of the Norfolk & Western Railway's system, and a notable photography subject for the great O. Winston Link. Sadly the engine was dismantled in 1957, but her sister engine #475 escaped the scrapper's torch. Today, #475 is dressed up as her long lost sister for Lerro Photography's "Virginia Creeper" charter, the third event of its kind, at the Strasburg Railroad. Recreating scenes commonly seen on the Abingdon Branch, #382 races along the countryside with a mixed freight consist, just as she would over 60 years ago! Now please enjoy this special video brought to you by Blue Comet Productions in conjunction with Lerro Photography!

This video was filmed on November 6th, 2017.

I've been on the Heber Creeper.

Fun, fun, fun!

Even if trucks DO run, haven’t we just been hearing about the deisel issues and driver shortages??

There might not be enough of them to cover trains not moving
Son's company has sent out a message that fuel is no longer a huge problem. They have a contract with a particular truck stop company, and that company has not had any issues filling tanks recently.

Jerry Haslam's Pilot Flying J??? I BELIEVE he does a better job running Pilot J than the Browns. Now the Cols Crew he leaves alone and they are doing FINE.

Neither here nor there.
I don't think the majority of people will even pay attention to the strike unless the "media" tells them it represents SHTF. One of the reasons my late dh and I decided to prep was so as not to be part of the hoard mobbing stores in a panic. Most sheeple will not panic until they cannot buy what they want (not need) and will go off the deep end when their needs are not fulfilled. In general, I think a rail strike will be a big ho-hum unless it goes on for an extended period of time which I do not think .gov will allow.

This is one of the reasons we prep, to avoid the hoards who are in panic mode.

Goodness before greatness.
Responding to the OP.

I’ll run into the supermarket screaming toilet paper, where’s the toilet paper?!!!

I’ll hit my stopwatch…

Grab a coffee, then come back in a pick up truck on the street just outside the parking lot with 500% jacked prices of the stuff.

I’m kidding of course. I try to promote a pantry lifestyle as a urban buffer to JIT problems.

Recall the last panic buyers in the early onset of CV-19 cognition. It was a few words from the executive office that sent people into stores, and tissue and TP was an issue. I still recall an old man pushing his cart pleading with anyone who would listen where he could find some.

I’m no rail logistics expert. When I do put a finger on the mass of the (((vibe)))… I get the impression of a smoldering ember. Slow, but eventual in progress.

I do believe this is all part of “TGReset” as there are too many perfected imperfect parallel actions enhancing the culminating state of FUBAR.

“All war is logistics.” L.A.B.

The economic engine, as well as any power structures to include military machinations, are ‘driven’ by it.

Oh wow, you just brought back a bunch of great memories for me!

In the kitchen of my childhood home, my parents had a trivet hanging on the wall that said:

"I'm the boss of this house and I have my wife's permission to say so."

Thank you :-)

There's a wooden sign hanging above the coffee pot here in our computer room/office that reads:

"An old Marine and his D.I. live here."

:)

So kind of on the weak side, huh?

I got my training in the Army, if you could stand a spoon up in it, it was about right.

I told the guys at work when getting coffee out of the vending machine, if you could drink a whole cup of that, you'd survive what the day threw at you.

Just poking. I'll have SB make it up just right, just for you. I'm the man of the house and she has to do what I say.

Friends do that for one another.
Uh… Cary, you do realize that SB can read, don’t you?

Maybe you can use one of those generators to light and heat the dog house for you tonight. Make sure to pack a wool blanket or two.

It’s already getting chilly out there, and it isn’t 5 pm yet.

Nah! I wouldn't do that to him. If I did that, who would keep my feet warm, tonight? I'll just take his cookies away from him!

For those who plan on getting their gas tanks filled up, I’d go soon. The prices are down right now a little bit.

AND, if you use Kroger fuel point rewards, those expire tomorrow for ones accrued from last month.

(ALSO Kruger digital coupons have a one day only coupon, for 4x points rewards off, this Friday only! It’ll be a nightmare at those pumps Friday, but worth the wait)

I saved mine up and .70/gallon off. I just went to use those and was almost able to fill up my tank.
3.14 gallon.

Yeah. So weird. I did errands/shopping yesterday and in "little" feed store/Walmart pickup town, gas was only 2.88/gal. You betcha I topped off the truck because as I suspected, when I went to "bigger" town to Fleet Farm and to get my flu shot, gas was $3.44/gal. No idea why. The two towns...maybe 15-20 miles apart. Different county, same state.

We have price differences like that too.
The very county right next to us has prices lower on gas etc all across the board.

My county is on the “$$$ zip code”
Sister swears even medical costs are lower out there even veterinary care.

But for getting gas, it is silly to drive 30-45 minutes wasting gas to get a deal. For me it is unless I was already there, I’d sure fill up!

December 9th I expect to go to work as usual in the morning and afternoon. That evening is the evening of my stage debut as an actor in community theater.

As "stationmaster" I point out Anne Shirley to Matthew Cuthbert. As "Rev. Bentley" I confess to preaching the same sermon two Sundays in a row. As the "President of Queen's Academy" I present a gold medal and an Avery Scholarship to deserving students.

November 30, 2022

The second ‘winter of discontent’ appears to be underway, as new strikes for a variety of essential services continue to be announced. As we enter December, train strikes are set to paralyse the country, and bus strikes in the capital have already lasted several days.

Nurses will also strike shortly before Christmas, and ambulance workers have declared their intention to strike. Meanwhile, the postal service is set to be disrupted as Royal Mail employees strike over pay.

It can be difficult to keep track of all the different services available. So we has compiled a comprehensive list of all the upcoming train, bus, nurse, ambulance, and Royal Mail strikes.

Train and bus strikes have been going on for a while, and there are currently six different sets of industrial action on the table over pay disputes. These include two sets of bus strikes led by Unite: ten days of strikes on Abellio London’s TfL bus routes and seven days on Metroline’s TfL bus routes, with three overlapping days affecting 132 London routes, or one in every five routes.
