CHAT So you wake up on Dec 9th, and the railroad strike has occurred -- what are the first things you will do?

Trying to use this chat as an idea thought box of things you'll do if you wake up and the railroad strike is under way.

Go to the bank? Go to the grocery store?

Our thoughts may jingle ideas in others heads that they hadn't quite thought of, and they might want to put on the short 'to do' list.

Probably drive to the feed mill and buy enough chicken feed to last until June. Other than that, since we no longer are the owners here, nothing else I can think of.

DS did fill the tractors with diesel and then refilled all the cans... I'm not used to not having a 300 gallon diesel tank sitting full, but it is what it is.

I give up.
Well, if it's the railroad, then I don't think it will last long. They gonna starve the peeps right before Christmas?

I dunno, haven't been paying much attention to it, TBH.

I will have been watching VERY closely and will have ALREADY gotten specific meats, veggies, etc.
Also 2 boxes of Red and 2 bottles of Port (one tawny, 1 ruby).
I will check for the dozenth time that I have an UNOPENED honey jug, and at least 3-5 Champagne Yeast packets. (MIGHT consider a couple of Stout Wort cans as well)
OH yeah, a hundred bux of catfood (4-9 months for her Reverence) AND a few buckets of litter.

Clean out 1 or 3 Marc's stores for BIO-BLOX for the fire stove.

Basically have a freezer 3/4 full and another one 1/2 full as it is.

By then it will be afternoon and I THINK I'll be able to afford JUST A BIT of day drinking.

Oh right it IS time to refresh the case of K-cups (ALWAYS have at least ONE 90 cup case here somewhere.

Chuck - if you do not have this -- enjoy.

Recipes

I'm not sure if that is where I got the coffee one I made once, or the maple syrup. However I have made some of his recipes and they have been good.

I did not wait for Dec 9.

I topped off my galvenized steel garbage cans with layer feed today.

Also, I have about 100 pounds of kitten chow, but maybe I might invest in some adult cat chow for when my little feline lady has finished eating the kitten chow.

By then, I would figure she will be about young adult age.

I WOULD just print all them pages off and go upstairs and scatter them on the bed and touch myself with them!!!

Actually, I gonna dump that into a large thumb drive and file it away!

I do pretty well with Meads already (hence the honey and Champagne yeasts) but THAT is a TREASURE TROVE!!

Thank you, M'am!!!

They shut down the economy in 20/21... here in NM only 75 people could be in a super WAL-MART, you had to wait in line in foul weather to buy groceries.... you have to be suffering from some serious Stockholm syndrome to think they are scared to plunge the knife in deep!

If they are looking to break people's spirit... Christmas is a great time for a good hard beating... after all, most people proved beyond doubt they have no fight in them!

Something to consider:
UPS PLACES many trailers on the rail system each day. If the railroad puts up a picked line the UPS drivers should honor that line. You are really talking trouble now!
Let us pray that doesn’t happen.
RR's have a well exercised plan to be SURE that all high security containers will be OUT of the Right of Ways before ANY strike (they start 9 days early, the Unions MUST give 9 days notice and MOST of the Union Guys are REAL straight on that limit.)

So then this is what we should be looking for
If anyone here knows what or how to do that?

The RR's in Brittian/UK walked off this morning. We shall see how long it takes THEM to clear up.

I doubt that any effects would be instantly catastrophic.

Having a priority list like the OP suggests is not a bad idea.

There would probably be a window for normal purchases. (normally priced, that is)

24-48 hours later might be a different scenario.

They did? I missed it then. We were in Florida in the midst of the friggin Covid thing. That was bad enough. But as I've mentioned before, Winn-Dixie had absolutely no problems keeping people fed, that's for sure. There was gas. I never noticed one thing as far as a rail strike was concerned, nor did I even hear about it. Hmmm..... I have enough for a good while, and I am NOT going to put anymore stress on myself than I have to at this stage of my life. There is nothing I can do about a strike anyway.

Some biocide in there to keep from gunking up filters is your friend.
