Imagine when people in the US wake up in the morning.
You have a good point there, that is for normal times. Right now I kinda think with the dumbing down of the younger generations, they won't have a clue as to what any of this means. And for the older generations, they are so numb from covid, the vaxes, inflation, unemployment, illegals, stolen elections that they could really not care or welcome WWIII.

Boeing B-52H Stratofortress heading toward Ukraine/Russia.
My understanding of the B-52's use in this war is that of a weapons platform. Meaning they likely carry cruise missiles near the intended destination, then let them rip while the B-52 itself remains in a relatively safe area. The Ruskies appear to be doing the same with their heavy bombers. They are big targets and nothing stealth about them, so no reason to waste them.

This movement will grow IF Russian casualties are higher then the official figures. Nothing like losing a son, brother, or father to whip up resistance. Putin is using classic 1940's tactics which requires vast numbers of men to be expendables.

Considering that few Russian youths want to go to Ukraine, my guess is Putin will draw from non-ethic Russian minorities.

If Ukraine played their cards right, they will not invade pre-1991 borders so they can claim they are not invading Russia.

Putin has paranoid fantasies about neo-Nazi's wanting to overrun Mother Russia.
I know you are not a believer in neo-Nazi's roaming the Uke countryside looking for Ruskies to waste, but look at the historical context. Russia's USSR swallowed up Ukraine, what's worse is Stalin created a famine where millions of Ukrainians died of hunger. We are talking recent history, where those living now know of their dear relatives that suffered greatly under the Russians. Then comes the Nazi's running off the Russians. They were regarded as saviors, someone killing Russians, sort of a revenge. My point is the Uke's have different opinion of the Nazi's, we think they were cruel murderers, the Uke's see them as heroes.

So when images of swastikas or SS lightning bolts show up in Uke unit's emblems, and the word is out they have Nazi units, it certainly is believable. And supports reports that these Nazi units are killing Russian ethnics in Ukraine before the war.

Now, like I've said repeatedly, there is so much propaganda from both sides we do not know what to believe. But I believe in history, and to me it makes sense that there could be neo-Nazi's in the war. These are not Jew haters, as we know Nazi's to be, rather they are Russian haters.

B-52s over Finland and Sweden are not in support of ops in Ukraine.
By the time they launch, Russian birds will have already flown the coup. But they are a nice afterthought.

You are correct about this history. I have seen photos of Ukrainians throwing flowers at the advancing German tanks. Their hatred of the Russians was immense because of what they suffered. Recently, I told a nurse true stories about the Ukrainian famine and she was shocked. She had no idea.

Most don't know (or don't want it to be known) that most of Russian commissars were Jewish. Many Ukrainians were quite willing to help the SS get rid of the Juden. Up until this war started, mass graves of Juden were still being found.
Typically an elder would remember stories where they were dumped. Reichminister Himmler was upset to read reports that the locals wanted to watch the mass killings. The commissars would kill every Ukrainian in their jails, often just before the German army arrived.

To say there is bad blood on both sides is an gross understatement.

They know NAZI era images trigger the Russians, that's why use them. Classic example of "the enemy of my enemy is my friend."

Putin's family lost a one year old boy during the siege of Leningrad. So him using neo-Nazi's as bad guys killing Russians is quite convincing.

Address by the President of the Russian Federation (Vladimir Putin)

September 21, 2022

Friends,

The subject of this address is the situation in Donbass and the course of the special military operation to liberate it from the neo-Nazi regime, which seized power in Ukraine in 2014 as the result of an armed state coup.

Today I am addressing you – all citizens of our country, people of different generations, ages and ethnicities, the people of our great Motherland, all who are united by the great historical Russia, soldiers, officers and volunteers who are fighting on the frontline and doing their combat duty, our brothers and sisters in the Donetsk and Lugansk people’s republics, Kherson and Zaporozhye regions and other areas that have been liberated from the neo-Nazi regime.

The issue concerns the necessary, imperative measures to protect the sovereignty, security and territorial integrity of Russia and support the desire and will of our compatriots to choose their future independently, and the aggressive policy of some Western elites, who are doing their utmost to preserve their domination and with this aim in view are trying to block and suppress any sovereign and independent development centres in order to continue to aggressively force their will and pseudo-values on other countries and nations.

The goal of that part of the West is to weaken, divide and ultimately destroy our country. They are saying openly now that in 1991 they managed to split up the Soviet Union and now is the time to do the same to Russia, which must be divided into numerous regions that would be at deadly feud with each other.

They devised these plans long ago. They encouraged groups of international terrorists in the Caucasus and moved NATO’s offensive infrastructure close to our borders. They used indiscriminate Russophobia as a weapon, including by nurturing the hatred of Russia for decades, primarily in Ukraine, which was designed to become an anti-Russia bridgehead. They turned the Ukrainian people into cannon fodder and pushed them into a war with Russia, which they unleashed back in 2014. They used the army against civilians and organised a genocide, blockade and terror against those who refused to recognise the government that was created in Ukraine as the result of a state coup.

After the Kiev regime publicly refused to settle the issue of Donbass peacefully and went as far as to announce its ambition to possess nuclear weapons, it became clear that a new offensive in Donbass – there were two of them before – was inevitable, and that it would be inevitably followed by an attack on Russia’s Crimea, that is, on Russia.

In this connection, the decision to start a pre-emptive military operation was necessary and the only option. The main goal of this operation, which is to liberate the whole of Donbass, remains unaltered.

The Lugansk People’s Republic has been liberated from the neo-Nazis almost completely. Fighting in the Donetsk People’s Republic continues. Over the previous eight years, the Kiev occupation regime created a deeply echeloned line of permanent defences. A head-on attack against them would have led to heavy losses, which is why our units, as well as the forces of the Donbass republics, are acting competently and systematically, using military equipment and saving lives, moving step by step to liberate Donbass, purge cities and towns of the neo-Nazis, and help the people whom the Kiev regime turned into hostages and human shields.

As you know, professional military personnel serving under contract are taking part in the special military operation. Fighting side by side with them are volunteer units – people of different ethnicities, professions and ages who are real patriots. They answered the call of their hearts to rise up in defence of Russia and Donbass.

In this connection, I have already issued instructions for the Government and the Defence Ministry to determine the legal status of volunteers and personnel of the military units of the Donetsk and Lugansk people’s republics. It must be the same as the status of military professionals of the Russian army, including material, medical and social benefits. Special attention must be given to organising the supply of military and other equipment for volunteer units and Donbass people’s militia.

While acting to attain the main goals of defending Donbass in accordance with the plans and decisions of the Defence Ministry and the General Staff, our troops have liberated considerable areas in the Kherson and Zaporozhye regions and a number of other areas. This has created a protracted line of contact that is over 1,000 kilometres long.

This is what I would like to make public for the first time today. After the start of the special military operation, in particular after the Istanbul talks, Kiev representatives voiced quite a positive response to our proposals. These proposals concerned above all ensuring Russia’s security and interests. But a peaceful settlement obviously did not suit the West, which is why, after certain compromises were coordinated, Kiev was actually ordered to wreck all these agreements.

More weapons were pumped into Ukraine. The Kiev regime brought into play new groups of foreign mercenaries and nationalists, military units trained according to NATO standards and receiving orders from Western advisers.

At the same time, the regime of reprisals throughout Ukraine against their own citizens, established immediately after the armed coup in 2014, was harshly intensified. The policy of intimidation, terror and violence is taking on increasingly mass-scale, horrific and barbaric forms.

I want to stress the following. We know that the majority of people living in the territories liberated from the neo-Nazis, and these are primarily the historical lands of Novorossiya, do not want to live under the yoke of the neo-Nazi regime. People in the Zaporozhye and Kherson regions, in Lugansk and Donetsk saw and are seeing now the atrocities perpetrated by the neo-Nazis in the [Ukrainian-] occupied areas of the Kharkov region. The descendants of Banderites and members of Nazi punitive expeditions are killing, torturing and imprisoning people; they are settling scores, beating up, and committing outrages on peaceful civilians.

There were over 7.5 million people living in the Donetsk and Lugansk people’s republics and in the Zaporozhye and Kherson regions before the outbreak of hostilities. Many of them were forced to become refugees and leave their homes. Those who have stayed – they number about five million – are now exposed to artillery and missile attacks launched by the neo-Nazi militants, who fire at hospitals and schools and stage terrorist attacks against peaceful civilians.

We cannot, we have no moral right to let our kin and kith be torn to pieces by butchers; we cannot but respond to their sincere striving to decide their destiny on their own.

The parliaments of the Donbass people’s republics and the military-civilian administrations of the Kherson and Zaporozhye regions have adopted decisions to hold referendums on the future of their territories and have appealed to Russia to support this.

I would like to emphasise that we will do everything necessary to create safe conditions for these referendums so that people can express their will. And we will support the choice of future made by the majority of people in the Donetsk and Lugansk people’s republics and the Zaporozhye and Kherson regions.

Friends,

Today our armed forces, as I have mentioned, are fighting on the line of contact that is over 1,000 kilometres long, fighting not only against neo-Nazi units but actually the entire military machine of the collective West.

In this situation, I consider it necessary to take the following decision, which is fully adequate to the threats we are facing. More precisely, I find it necessary to support the proposal of the Defence Ministry and the General Staff on partial mobilisation in the Russian Federation to defend our Motherland and its sovereignty and territorial integrity, and to ensure the safety of our people and people in the liberated territories.

As I have said, we are talking about partial mobilisation. In other words, only military reservists, primarily those who served in the armed forces and have specific military occupational specialties and corresponding experience, will be called up.

Before being sent to their units, those called up for active duty will undergo mandatory additional military training based on the experience of the special military operation.

I have already signed Executive Order on partial mobilisation.

In accordance with legislation, the houses of the Federal Assembly – the Federation Council and the State Duma – will be officially notified about this in writing today.

The mobilisation will begin today, September 21. I am instructing the heads of the regions to provide the necessary assistance to the work of military recruitment offices.

I would like to point out that the citizens of Russia called up in accordance with the mobilisation order will have the status, payments and all social benefits of military personnel serving under contract.

Additionally, the Executive Order on partial mobilisation also stipulates additional measures for the fulfilment of the state defence order. The heads of defence industry enterprises will be directly responsible for attaining the goals of increasing the production of weapons and military equipment and using additional production facilities for this purpose. At the same time, the Government must address without any delay all aspects of material, resource and financial support for our defence enterprises.

Friends,

The West has gone too far in its aggressive anti-Russia policy, making endless threats to our country and people. Some irresponsible Western politicians are doing more than just speak about their plans to organise the delivery of long-range offensive weapons to Ukraine, which could be used to deliver strikes at Crimea and other Russian regions.

Such terrorist attacks, including with the use of Western weapons, are being delivered at border areas in the Belgorod and Kursk regions. NATO is conducting reconnaissance through Russia’s southern regions in real time and with the use of modern systems, aircraft, vessels, satellites and strategic drones.

Washington, London and Brussels are openly encouraging Kiev to move the hostilities to our territory. They openly say that Russia must be defeated on the battlefield by any means, and subsequently deprived of political, economic, cultural and any other sovereignty and ransacked.

They have even resorted to the nuclear blackmail. I am referring not only to the Western-encouraged shelling of the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant, which poses a threat of a nuclear disaster, but also to the statements made by some high-ranking representatives of the leading NATO countries on the possibility and admissibility of using weapons of mass destruction – nuclear weapons – against Russia.

I would like to remind those who make such statements regarding Russia that our country has different types of weapons as well, and some of them are more modern than the weapons NATO countries have. In the event of a threat to the territorial integrity of our country and to defend Russia and our people, we will certainly make use of all weapon systems available to us. This is not a bluff.

The citizens of Russia can rest assured that the territorial integrity of our Motherland, our independence and freedom will be defended – I repeat – by all the systems available to us. Those who are using nuclear blackmail against us should know that the wind rose can turn around.

It is our historical tradition and the destiny of our nation to stop those who are keen on global domination and threaten to split up and enslave our Motherland. Rest assured that we will do it this time as well.

I believe in your support.

Nothing earth shattering there.

I had same assessment. Nothing earth shattering, Nothing new. I'm not even sure if the call up isn't reassuring in it's low #, as many suggest that's barely enough for Ukraine proper, with a few spares.

At this point, the only way Europe, or the US, awoke in a panic is if they were completely Blind, Deaf and Dumb.

Everything that occurred was amply foreshadowed, and in the main the trajectory was seen, or speculated upon, months ago. It was definitely seen as probable in the last few days, we even discussed it in the last few right here on this thread.
I can only wonder what MSM is pumping out there if folks really did awake surprised.

My concern remains the US/Nato forces who continue to pour gasoline on the pyre at every turn, and double down upon it at every sign of any lull or breakout of peace. They may whip their masses into frothing Karens with their Putin-bad rhetoric or whatever, but I watched this unfold, and know there is blame a plenty to go around. I'm notta

That would be my assessment as well. Once the vote is done, annexation will take place, therefore an attack in those annexed areas will be consider an attack on Russian soil. And not Ukraine.

I would also note that Putin is calling up "Reserves" and I take that to be like our National Guard. So this call up, isn't drafting civilians.

Have no idea about how that will effect the "riots in Moscow" but these guys signed up for it.

And I would consider the "this is not a bluff" as THIS IS NOT A BLUFF. So would act accordingly.

Biden: Lets send some more stuff in the form of money and military aid to Ukraine so they can take back those break away states that voted to break away. I mean, my God man, Lincoln set the president on that. And that's no joke.

Oh wait that was Liz who thinks she is Lincoln. I wonder if she is going to grow a beard?

Biggest take away is the reserve call up. Those reserves will eventually overwhelm the Ukrainians unless they still have a fair bit of manpower reserves left. Can Russia effectively arm and provide the logistics for them? Can the West do the same for Ukraine? A true war of attrition. It will take at least a month for those reserves to start arriving in mass on the battlefield.

The occupied territory joining Russia is a guarantee. The whole reason Putin is now giving for the war is to liberate the Donbass. Imagine the consequences if they said no. He isnt going to give them the option to say no.

Who is he going to nuke? Ukrainian troops on the front? Kiev, Odessa, Lviv? I dont see nukes being used unless NATO mobilizes and they go after Russia proper.

I agree Cary, very predictable, completely expected, and like you, my take away is not so much concern over Putin, as exactly how much gasoline our own western "leaders" intend to use to ensure conflagration. A cynic might suggest they indeed poked the bear as long and as hard as they could to be certain he was forced into the corner with nothing left but to assure the world "IM NOT BLUFFING".

My question, and point for documenting things in this thread, has always been, will the rat-bastards stop short of actually ensuring Nukes light the sky, or will the brinkmanship stop just shy of such destruction. I still feel we're closer to danger than we've been since the cuban M crisis- but as they say, Man plans, Gods' laugh, so while I prudently prepare for the worst, I've not given up all hope, yet.

Russian opposition calls for protests against Putin's 'criminal war'

  • Opposition calls for protests
  • Russian police detain more than 100 people - protest monitor
TBILISI, Sept 21 (Reuters) - Russia's opposition on Wednesday called for protests against President Vladimir Putin after he ordered the mobilisation of 300,000 reservists for what Kremlin foe Alexei Navalny said was a failing criminal war.
Putin on Wednesday ordered Russia's first mobilisation since World War Two and backed a plan to annex swathes of Ukraine, warning the West he was not bluffing when he said he would be ready to use nuclear weapons to defend Russia. read more

Navalny, Russia's most prominent opposition leader, said Putin was sending more Russians to their deaths for a failing war.
"It is clear that the criminal war is getting worse, deepening, and Putin is trying to involve as many people as possible in this," Navalny said in a video message from jail recorded and published by his lawyers.
"He wants to smear hundreds of thousands of people in this blood," Navalny said.

Since the Feb. 24 invasion, Putin has cracked down on dissent and the media, with thousands arrested at anti-war protests and a new law that calls for 15-year prison sentences for those who distribute "fake news" about the military.
Russian state television casts critics as traitors who are in the pay of the West. Putin says the country is in a battle with the West over Ukraine, which he says is being used by the United States and its allies in an attempt to destroy Russia.

Russia's anti-war groups called for street protests against the mobilisation order.
"This means that thousands of Russian men - our fathers, brothers and husbands - will be thrown into the meat grinder of war," the Vesna anti-war coalition said. "Now the war has come to every home and every family."
It called for Russians to take to the streets in major cities on Wednesday. By 1530 GMT, Russian police had detained more than 100 across Russia for protesting against the mobilisation, the independent protest monitoring group OVD-Info said. read more

PROTESTS

Navalny says Putin started a pointless war that is butchering the innocent people of both Ukraine and Russia. He casts Putin's Russia as a state run by thieves and criminals and says it will ultimately be crushed by the forces of history.
The Kremlin dismisses Navalny's claims about Putin, who it says has won numerous fair elections in Russia since 2000 and remains by far the country's most popular politician. It has dismissed Navalny's claim that Putin is corrupt as nonsense.
Navalny's allies say Russian society does not support the mobilisation drive.
"It's scary to watch how a mad bastard is destroying a country live on television," said Navalny's chief of staff Leonid Volkov, who lives outside Russia.
"In military terms, mobilisation is hopelessly late and will not change anything in this lost war," he said. Russians should see it as matter of "moral duty, survival and self-preservation" to push back against the Kremlin, he added. Russian opposition calls for protests against Putin's 'criminal war'

It took ‘couple of months’ to put US anti-radiation missiles on Ukrainian fighters, USAF reveals

The Defense Department confirmed it had sent AGM-88 High Speed Radiation Missiles to Ukraine in August.

By VALERIE INSINNAon
Breaking Defense
September 19, 2022 at 5:23 PM

AFA 2022 — It took only a “couple of months” for defense contractors to equip the Ukrainian air force’s Soviet-era MiG-29 and Su-27 fighters with American-made AGM-88 High Speed Radiation Missiles, the head of US Air Forces in Europe said today.

“It was quite the effort,” said Gen. James Hecker during a roundtable at the Air Force Association’s Air, Space Cyber conference. “We have some early smart contractors that were able to make this happen. Now, is it as integrated as it is on an F-16? Of course not. So it doesn’t have all the capabilities that it would on an F-16.”

On the battlefield, Russia is able to thwart the use of HARM missiles by turning off its radars. But that can benefit Ukraine as well, Hecker said. “Even though you don’t get a kinetic kill … you can get local air superiority for a period of time where you can do what you need to do.”

In August, the Defense Department confirmed it had provided anti-radiation missiles to Ukraine, days after images were posted on the social media site Telegram which appeared to show fragments of an exploded AGM-88 missiles that had allegedly been used by Ukraine against Russian targets.

“We’ve included a number of anti-radiation missiles that can be fired off of Ukrainian aircraft that can have effects on Russian radars and other things,” Colin Kahl, undersecretary of defense for policy, told reporters then.

At the time, a major source of discussion was if the US had assisted the Ukrainians with outfitting the HARM missiles on its Su-27 and MiG-29 aircraft or whether a new ground-based launcher had been created. Photos from the website RevengeFor — which is crowdsourcing funds for weapons for Ukraine — showed a MiG 29 outfitted with an AGM-88, with an adapter visible that allows the HARM missile to connect to the aircraft’s LAU-118 pylon, reported The War Zone on Sept. 16.

Hecker today declined to comment on which contractor had integrated the Ukrainian planes with the HARM missiles, asking with a laugh, “If you were that contractor, would you want Russia to know?”

Over the course of the war, the Ukrainians have shot down at least 55 Russian aircraft, mostly using SA-10 and SA-11 surface to air missiles, Hecker said. If losses on the ground are counted, that number rises to more than 60 warplanes.

During the Ukraine Defense Contact Group meeting at Ramstein Air Base in Germany, one of Ukraine’s biggest requests was for additional SA-10 and SA-11 missiles, Hecker said. However, those weapons are Soviet-made and are not in the United States’ stockpile.

The Russian air force’s combat losses against Ukraine — a significantly smaller and less resourced force — exemplifies the threat of surface-to-air missiles, which when fielded in large quantities presents a challenge even to the most seasoned air forces.

“They’re hard to take down. They really are. They’d be hard for us to take down with fifth-generation stealth aircraft and better aviation,” he said. At the same time, Russia made key tactical failures by failing to make a “concentrated effort” to take down Ukrainian air defenses at the beginning of the conflict. “That would have been our first priority.”

Biden Rebukes Russia's "Outrageous" Ukraine Escalation, Says US "Not Seeking A New Cold War"

BY TYLER DURDEN
ZERO HEDGE
WEDNESDAY, SEP 21, 2022 - 11:59 AM

Update(1159ET): As expected President Biden in his speech blasted Putin's "outrageous" invasion of Ukraine and latest escalation by ordering a 'partial' mobilization. He stressed before the UN General Assembly the war is "about extinguishing Ukraine's right to exist as a state — plain and simple." On Ukraine, the president said further, "The world should see these outrageous acts for what they are. Putin claims he had to act because Russia was threatened. But no one threatened Russia, and no one other than Russia sought conflict."

"Ukraine has the same rights that belong to every sovereign nation. We will stand in solidarity with Ukraine. We will stand in solidarity against Russian aggression," Biden continued. He highlighted Putin's mention of nuclear weapons in his early Wednesday speech, and responded "we are not seeking a new Cold War." Biden made mention of alleged atrocities by Russian forces in places like Izium, and even charged the Kremlin with "torture" of Ukrainian civilians.
Overall, there was little unexpected in the somewhat lengthy speech, nor were there any specific new US courses of action or sanctions in response to the Ukraine conflict or Putin's fresh declarations. Below is Biden's UN address, which lasted a little over 30-minutes, in full...

* * *
President Joe Biden is set to address the United Nations General Assembly Wednesday morning at UN headquarters in New York City. Crucially it will come hours after Russian President Vladimir Putin in his own major speech addressing the Ukraine conflict announced a 'partial mobilization' of national forces - or rather of reserve units, as the Kremlin is now clarifying. Calling the moves “urgent, necessary steps to defend the sovereignty, security and territorial integrity of Russia,” Putin said that Russia is fighting the full might of NATO. The US and its allies, he said, are seeking to “destroy” Russia.

Putin also accused the west of using "nuclear blackmail" against Russia noting that "if its territorial integrity is threatened Russia will definitely use all the means at its disposal" to defend Russian territory. "This is not a bluff," he had stressed. US officials were quick to condemn what they said is a severe "escalation" of the "war of aggression" against Ukraine. Putin's speech additionally included an order for fresh mobilization of 300,000 "reservists". The White House issued an initial statement saying it takes Putin's words about nuclear weapons "seriously" - but that it still doesn't see the need to increase America's nuclear readiness and strategic deterrents.

Given that Biden's UN remarks are coming the same day as Putin's significant new declaration - being widely viewed as a new strategy of using the fuller might of the Russian military's blunt forces amid the Ukrainian counteroffensive in the east - which has seen some success, all eyes will be on Biden and his potentially outlining a specific response, including the likelihood of more sanctions.

He's also expected to announce $2.9 billion for a fund aimed at mitigating global food insecurity, in part driven by the seven-month Ukraine conflict.

This I believe is an outright lie. In February before the Russian invasion of the Ukraine Biden could said the Ukraine will not be admitted into NATO, but he did not.

My first reaction, God Damn you Biden!

When these planes show up on Russian Radar, the Russian military will wonder, is this a preemptive strike from NATO / US?

What makes it even more problematic for the Russians is that old BUFF against anything the Russians would be concerned about would be launching low RCS land attack cruise missiles. So the BUFFs could be flying racetrack patterns over Poland, Romania, the Baltic and Artic Seas and be able to tear up everything from the Urals moving west with no problem.

Those B-52s had better have "little friends" on speed dial....
