Russia and NATO conducting naval exercises in Baltic Sea at same time.
Russian military exercises involve 40 warships, while NATO’s largest Naval drill - Baltops 23 - involves 50 ships

The RF Baltic Fleet has begun operational exercises at sea and at combat training ranges in the Kaliningrad region. It will last until June 15. The naval tactical groups of the Baltic Fleet left their bases, having deployed naval groupings of the fleet in designated areas of the Baltic Sea to perform training tasks.

In addition to the RF Baltic Fleet, the Pacific Fleet has begun exercises in the Sea of Japan and the Sea of Okhotsk with the participation of more than 60 warships and support vessels, the Russian Defense Ministry said.

More than 60 warships and support vessels, about 35 naval aircraft, coastal troops and more than 11 thousand military personnel are involved in the exercise of the group of forces of the Pacific Fleet.

Ukraine’s vain attempts to launch an offensive ostensibly to oust Russia from “conquered” lands in the Donbass reminds me of the Japanese Kamikaze bombers trying to impede the inevitable U.S. victory in the Pacific. It is needless deaths sacrificed in the name of national honor but, when it is over, is totally meaningless.

After several weeks of British-supplied Storm Shadow cruise missiles striking Russian targets in Ukraine, they’ve finally appeared 'in the wild' on an aircraft before launch.

Photos show two of the Storm Shadows onboard a Ukrainian Su-24M Fencer, which we previously assessed as the likely launch platform for the British standoff missiles. That assessment was proven accurate just two weeks ago.

Unlike the previous photo showing Storm Shadows on a Ukrainian Fencer, this appears to be a Su-24M strike variant, not an MR reconnaissance variant, in service with Ukraine’s 7th Tactical Aviation Brigade.

The Su-24M makes perfect sense to carry these relatively large and heavy cruise missiles both in payload and mission profile. Designed as the preferred tactical strike aircraft for the Soviet Air Force, standoff strikes with Storm Shadows are a walk in the park for the Fencer.

Compared to the low-level interdiction strikes missions once foreseen in the Cold War, the Storm Shadow’s range allows much greater survivability for Ukrainian Fencer aircrews. Given the limited supply of Ukrainian Su-24s and the number of losses in this war already, each airframe is precious.

While not the only far from traditional East-West collaboration in Ukrainian service, be that Sparrows on Buks or HARMs on MiGs, Storm Shadow-armed Su-24s are indeed strange bedfellows. There’s no way the designers at Sukhoi OKB ever believed their creation would one day carry British cruise missiles used to make precision strikes on Russian targets.

Statement of the Ministry of Defense on the offensive of the enemy on the South-Donetsk Front

During June 5, the enemy continued to conduct the offensive, concentrating the main efforts on the Vremevsky ledge of the South-Donetsk direction.
  • Having suffered heavy losses the day before, the Kiev regime reorganized the remnants of the 23rd and 31st mechanized brigades into separate consolidated units, which continued offensive operations in the areas of the settlement. Novodarovka and Levadnoe. In addition, a fresh brigade was brought into battle in this area.
  • At the same time, the enemy launched an offensive in the direction of the Oktyabrsky state farm and Novodonetskoye with the forces of the 37th Marine Brigade with reinforcements, the basis of which was the units of the 68th Mountain Jaeger Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine .
  • The enemy was inflicted a complex fire defeat by the forces of army, assault and operational-tactical aviation, missile forces and artillery, as well as heavy flamethrower systems.
  • As a result of the active and selfless actions of the units of the Vostok grouping of troops, who showed courage and heroism , the enemy was stopped and did not achieve the assigned tasks. The attacking formations and military units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine suffered significant damage .

Major news broke that the Nova Khakovka dam has been completely destroyed. This is the central, extremely important dam that was critical to the whole Kherson situation last year. It was the sole reason Russia retreated, as the threat of destroying the dam kept their troops on the right/western bank of the Dnieper river highly vulnerable.
