As everyone expected, #Russia's terms for a negotiated settlement with #Ukraine are absurd and patently unacceptable. The Russian army's offensive failed, and now depleted Russian forces nervously await an anticipated Ukrainian spring counteroffensive. The only satisfactory conclusion to this war is for Ukraine to: (1) defeat the Russian invaders, (2) kick them completely out of the country, and then (3) be admitted to #NATO. Instead of telling Ukraine we will support them however long it takes, we should now be giving Ukraine whatever equipment and support it takes to more rapidly achieve our (= ours, and Ukraine's) collective strategic objectives. Belated half-steps are not enough; they were never a meaningful "strategy".

Note that Russia's comments have been consistent on this issue and, once again, we see the west throwing gasoline upon the pyres anytime there is the barest hint o' deescalation in the wind

#Moscow will consider deliveries of Western-made munitions which contain uranium to #Kiev as equivalent to the use of dirty nuclear bombs, says Konstantin Gavrilov, head of the Russian Delegation to the Negotiations on Military Security&Arms Control in Vienna.
Via @RWApodcast

The UK will send “armour piercing rounds which contain depleted uranium” to Ukraine, for use with the tank squadron donated by the British army.

Defence minister Baroness Goldie made the admission yesterday in response to a written parliamentary question from crossbench peer Lord Hylton.
Goldie said: “Such rounds are highly effective in defeating modern tanks and armoured vehicles.”
Russia has previously warned it would regard the use of depleted uranium in Ukraine as a ‘dirty bomb’.

Kremlin official Konstantin Gavrilov said in January: “If Kyiv is supplied with such shells for NATO heavy military equipment, we will consider this as the use of dirty nuclear bombs against Russia with all the ensuing consequences.”
Depleted uranium rounds have been linked to cancer and birth defects. They were fired extensively by allied forces in Iraq.

The rounds are radioactive and scientists believe their toxic effects on human health can continue to be felt long after conflicts have ended.
A White House spokesperson refused to confirm whether the US was supplying such rounds to Ukraine when asked by a reporter in January.

⚡️The time has come to confiscate russian assets in order to rebuild Ukraine, – Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki says.
According to him, Europe should show stronger political will to support Ukraine.
After all, the aggressors must know that sooner or later they will have to pay for the damage they have caused. Moravetsky notes that now the war is for common European values, and Ukrainians are fighting not only for themselves, but also for the freedom of the whole of Europe.

US is speeding up its delivery of Abrams tanks to Ukraine, opting to send a refurbished older model that can be ready faster, with the aim of getting the 70-ton battle powerhouses to the war zone in eight to 10 months.

Watch "modified" become not a change out of the armor package but instead a repaint to a European camo pattern.....

U.S. Responds to Claim Drone Involved in Plan to Strike Russian Port
Isabel van Brugen

U.S. Releases Video Of Exact Moment Russian Jet Collided With Drone

The U.S. has denied a Russian claim that an American MQ-9 Reaper drone that was downed over the Black Sea on March 14 could have been involved in preparations for a strike on the Russian Black Sea port of Tuapse, calling the allegations "ridiculous."

On Tuesday, Russian online newspaper Mash cited anonymous sources in a report as saying that the drone could have been carrying out surveillance prior to an attack on the port, which is located near to the Russian naval base in Novorossiysk.

"An American drone that was shot down in the sky over the Black Sea could have been involved in preparing an attack on the port of Tuapse," Mash reported. "According to our information, the MQ-9 Reaper was scouting the situation so that [Ukrainian forces] could strike with sea and air drones."

When contacted by Newsweek for comment, the State Department said the allegations are "ridiculous."

"These claims are completely ridiculous and have ZERO basis in fact or truth. To be clear, we categorically deny them," a State Department spokesperson told Newsweek.

The spokesperson said that the U.S. Reaper drone "was lawfully operating in international airspace over the Black Sea."

The drone collided with a Russian Su-27 fighter jet and crashed into the sea, marking the first known direct military encounter between Washington and Moscow since Russian President Vladimir Putin launched his full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.

Both sides have blamed each other for the collision, providing conflicting accounts. The Pentagon has said that the aircraft dumped fuel on the drone, which was in international airspace conducting a routine surveillance mission. Russia has said the drone had "deliberately and provocatively" approached Russian air space.

"The Black Sea is a critical international seaway supporting many of our NATO Allies, including Romania, Bulgaria, and Turkey. It does not belong to any one country," the State Department spokesperson said.

"We have routinely operated in the Black Sea before the Russian invasion of Ukraine, in accordance with laws governing international airspace, and we will continue to operate in the Black Sea region in the future," the spokesperson added.

The Kremlin has yet to comment on the reports.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov has said U.S. drone flights over the Black Sea are a sign of direct U.S. involvement in conflict with Russia.

"It is quite obvious what these drones are doing, and their mission is not at all a peaceful mission to ensure the safety of shipping in international waters," Peskov was quoted by the Interfax news agency as saying on Sunday.

Tuapse came under attack in the early hours of February 28 when a Ukrainian drone strike caused a loud explosion at the port, a major oil terminal located south of the Russian naval base at Novorossiysk and north of the city of Sochi.

Newsweek has reached out to Russia's foreign ministry via email for comment.

That's what I had in mind when I said, "Go big or go home" earlier today.
This is an absurd article for a military man to have written - but 100% a result of the purge in our military of actual professionals and their replacements with the politically correct - pushing comments always in line with the current official position.
His goals:
(1) defeat the Russian invaders
(2) kick them completely out of the country, and then
(3) be admitted to #NATO.

This starts and ends with his first point - EXACTLY how does he expect Ukraine to defeat the Russians?
we should now be giving Ukraine whatever equipment and support it takes to more rapidly achieve our (= ours, and Ukraine's) collective strategic objectives - ??? What objectives - Regime change - Break up Russia - War Crimes Trials ????

As for equipment
- the US and NATO (by their own statements) are scraping the bottom of the barrel - there is effectively almost nothing remaining in the way of older Soviet weapons that NATO can send them. As for US arms and ammo the US has stated that they are no longer able to supply Ukraine with unlimited 155mm rounds - they have emptied the reserves and our production at around 15k a month is well below their current use of 5-6k A DAY!
Equipment - take the Abrams - now we are going to rebuild 40 in 10+ months - which begs the question - what happened to building 40 NEW Export versions? Likely we can't do it! Likely we are no longer even able to build just 4 new tanks a month!

Which brings us to his critical step whatever support - The only source for several thousand tanks and supporting armor, jets and men is the US and some troops from NATO.

As for Ukraine doing this - just look at the current conflict in Bakhmut - Ukraine has and is throwing everything into trying to hold this city - and failing. But it is important to note that the attacking forces are NOT the Russian army but just the Wagner Group with support of Russian air and artillery. Best estimates are that there are still some 300k+ UNCOMMITED Russian troops in reserve! These are not the raw - 3 week (at best) trained - conscripts Ukraine is now forced to use. They are former military (reserves) completing some 3 months of additional training.

Bottom line: if the entire Ukrainian military is not currently able to hold Bakhmut against just Wagner - how can anyone project that they will have the ability - some how - to not only retake Bakhmut but push the entire front back to the Russian borders against some 300k additional Russian troops with overwhelming artillery and aircraft support (effectively a no fly zone) as if Ukraine has any jets remaining?

The ONLY way his points 1 & 2 can be obtained (maybe) is as noted - full US intervention - men and equipment - there is no other option.

And as noted Going BIG - US & NATO jumping in - WW3 and make no mistake that will end up going Nuclear!

Time for this to END - go home - end the killing - work a practical arrangement before it goes too far.

18 European Countries Sign Joint Ammunition Donation For Ukraine

Authored by Magyar Hirlap via Remix News,
A total of 17 EU member states plus Norway have signed a joint agreement on the procurement of ammunition to strengthen Ukraine’s defense capabilities, the Brussels-based European Defense Agency (EDA) announced on Monday.

Austria, Belgium, Croatia, Cyprus, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Luxembourg, Malta, the Netherlands, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia and Sweden are the EU countries that have joined the initiative.

Under the agreement, the signing countries will seek to procure 155 mm artillery rounds in the short term on a fast-track basis and several types of ammunition in the longer term.

The EDA said the agreement sends a clear message to the defense industry to increase production capacity and confirms the EU’s commitment to supporting Ukraine.

The European Union’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell — who is also the head of the EDA — welcomed the decision taken by the 17 EU member states.

Hungarian Defense Minister Attila Szalay-Bobrovniczky, who was present at the Monday meeting of EU foreign and defense ministers together with Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó, revealed that Hungary had stayed out of the agreement, opting instead for “constructive abstention.”

He said that one proposal was for member states to transfer all or part of their existing ammunition stockpiles to Ukraine, and this is not something Hungary considers to be productive in its call for peace at the earliest opportunity.

At the same time, as the proposal would not put an end to the bloodshed, but rather would further increase the chances of an escalation, Hungary does not consider itself bound to participate in the initiative, he added.

He said that one proposal was for member states to transfer all or part of their existing ammunition stockpiles to Ukraine,

That sounds as sane as a person in a padded cell in a straight jacket.

And I bet Russia would just love that. The countries that oppose you with no ammo, sounds like a killing field.
“And I bet Russia would just love that. The countries that oppose you with no ammo, sounds like a killing field.”

I have been wondering if that isn’t actually “the plan”...
