I noticed the 1 gallon Crystal Geyser waters are hard to find anymore (NorCal). Bread is pretty thin lately as well. They will have a lot of one brand and not much of another. Couldn't get burger buns today, none to be had at large grocery store. Hot dog buns they had 4 packs left. Grabbed one. It is Easter weekend coming up but still a bit early to be out.

Buns have been in low stock for a couple months now around here. I know as I love my burgers and hotdogs ;)

Many things in a regular grocery store now are priced like it's a gas station in the middle of nowhere.

One good scare that causes a big food run and this is all bad.

I can see it building up.

Neither here nor there.
Stopped at a local Wendy’s for a bowl of chili. Only 2 packs of crackers per chilli and they were Club crackers told these were the only crackers they could find. They were so much more expensive only 2 per bowl.

FYI their chili is typically fourth six months old.

Once again but just a little bit louder. To date something like 29 MILLION egg laying birds have been euthanized since the beginning of the year due to the avian flu. Prices are not going to come down anytime soon, if ever.
I hope you folks don’t send the bird flu down my way.

My cantankerous bags of feathers are also my pets. They are working pets - I expect them to furnish breakfast as well as spring garden fertilizer. But they are still my family pets, and it is great entertainment at the end of a long, hard day to sit in front of the chicken yard with my wife and watch our little girls play.

They are family members. I don’t want to loose them. Or have to lock them up.

Went to Sam's Club today - they were pretty well-stocked for the most part, but they were out of the large bags of ordinary white rice, and there were no rotisserie chickens available. The cases of 60 cans of cat food that were normally $30 are now $36- that's after they were out of stock for over a month.

I now grab pet food when I see it; the cat food shelves at Walmart and Publix and pretty bare. What's odd in Walmart is they'll have maybe five different kinds of cases of cat food, but only one of each case - I've gone to several Walmarts (as much as I hate that place) and it's the same in all of them. Normally I get my pet food from Chewy, but almost everything except the expensive, premium brands is "temporarily out of stock" almost all the time lately - you have to hit it just right, I guess, and check back daily. Forget Amazon - Prime prices are up, and a lot of independent sellers there are price gouging. (Aforementioned 60 can cases I get at Sam's are over $60 there!) The dog will eat almost anything, but the cats are picky!

At Aldi eggs were $1.88 a dozen - they're normally under a dollar. The free range ones were $1.97, so I opted for those, for the few cents difference. They had very little meat, apart from pork, which was still reasonable. A package of a dozen sausage links was under $2 (in the meat case, not the frozen ones).

As for hot dogs, the best ones are the natural casing uncured 100% beef ones from Boar's Head - but they're now over $8 for a package of seven!

Saved, to glorify God.
If you DIDN'T take my advice and buy "one of the perks" 8 oz instant coffee at Kroger or Fred Mayer, while it was priced $2.79 IT HAS GONE UP TO $3.49 a jar.
Buy it anyway!!! Looking at other 8 oz instant coffee prices IT WILL SOON BE $4.50 a jar before going to $6 within a month or so..

One thing I forgot to mention was the rotisserie chickens at kroger. Thankfully, and oddly, the prices on them have not gone up yet. They’re still 6.99$ each which if you think about it is pretty good for a whole chicken.

Figure in the spices used as well as labor and packaging and those are still a pretty good bargain.

I grab one about once a week, sometimes twice depending on my work schedule. They can be super helpful if I’m too tired or forget to have something ready to cook after being gone for almost twelve hours.

They were $2.99lb at my Costco today. What you paid is robbery!!

Maybe three weeks ago, I got some humongous ones for a $1.99 or $2.99. On sale.
These were small boneless breasts, individual vacuum sealed, in a pouch. Always a little more expensive. I'm guessing they have not yet been marked up much beyond the scamdemic markup. Price has been between $8-$10 a pouch for a while.

I did check the regular packed boneless breast in a tray. $6.33 per pound!

The current Aldi ad has chicken leg quarters for 49¢ a pound in 10 pound packages. These are fresh not frozen so would be easy to repackage into smaller portions to freeze. I like to use these to can chicken. I cook, take off the bones and dice and can in pints. Works for chicken casseroles, soups, creamed chicken, chicken tacos etc. for a quick meal. BTW for those who only eat white meat, my late dh would eat this in various dishes never complaining it was not white meat and he would have complained loudly if he'd objected. He would only eat white meat.

I went to Kroger on Monday. Everything in the store well stocked, no gaps in any department. Prices are definitely up, anywhere from .50 to over $2.00 depending on what the items are. My overall bill was probably about $50 more than several months ago.

Kroger canned chicken in a 6 pack of 12.5 oz was last fall $8.95, now $13.00. Boneless, skinless chicken breasts at $3.99/pound but only have 3 breasts in pack whereas they would have 5.

Eggs here are around $1.89 dozen on average....Kroger had them for sale 18 count for $1.47.

Fresh veg and fruits.....let me just say I do not buy from Walmart my fresh veg/fruits or meat never have. So I've noticed with Kroger in past 6-8 months the fresh veg/fruits look questionable and not so fresh. Even when I brought things home, they would spoil quickly, you have to use them almost immediately.

And like Deanne mentioned above about the bread being stale when you buy it even tho dates are well within safe to use time frame.

Has anyone else notice that bread is stale to almost stale when you buy it? I have notice it the last three times I've bought it.

Another reason to start baking it at home again, besides being able to make it healthier. Haha...I've managed to boost the multi-grain aspect and protein levels (two eggs + milk per loaf) so that I can delude myself into thinking it 'almost' cancels itself out on carbs. ;)

Not really groceries, but 12 gallon storage totes I used to buy at Home Depot for ~~$5.88 are now $13.98, and at Menards, some 36x18x72 metal frame shelving units I used to buy for ~~$48 are now $89.

There used to be a non-food thread. I went looking for it day before yesterday.
Think I gave up looking and posted on another thread.

Can anyone recall the title?

I use to shop frequently at DT, every time I was in there I would pick up two jars of their instant coffee. I have an overflowing three 1/2 gallon bucket of instant coffee. I've only been to DT twice since they raised their prices. Frankly, most of what I use to buy there I have a good stock of and don't really need to buy more. 1.25 now for their instant coffee is not a bad price all things considered.

Your post made me look up the shelf life of instant coffee.

I would highly recommend starting some sourdough. It's pretty simple and there is a good recipe with instructions on the King Arthur website. Not only does it make the nutritional value of your bread much higher but it can take the place of yeast if necessary. There are a ton of youtube videos on making sourdough. I make two types of bread weekly. A half bread flour/half ground wheat where I add a cup of sourdough starter just to give it a kick and another which is a mashup of sourdough and ciabatta which my family goes crazy over. The second one uses no yeast but takes several hours of rising and folding.

Miss Belle Catahoula used to love Cinnamon Pop Tarts as a treat. A couple of little bites and my girl was happy. She passed in 2018. I passed by the Pop Tarts and had that thought, so glanced at the offerings. I saw no Cinnamon Pop Tarts, either store brand or name brand. Makes me wonder what happened to the Cinnamon crop this year?

I went to Food Giant, today, to pick up a few items. At the check out counter, there were fresh cooked rotisserie whole chickens. I checked the price. $8 plus tax for a 1.5 lb whole rotisserie chicken! I could not believe what I was seeing! It was so small I had to look twice to make sure it was a whole chicken. NE MS.
Last time I got a rotisserie chicken it was so tiny there wasn't much more left after making two sandwiches. I've not gotten one in a long time.

The pasta section at our Walmart, today, was fully stocked. I bought 4 large bags of egg noodles! Didn't even pay attention to the price. I wanted them while they were available. Also, Premium saltine crackers were back in stock. I grabbed two boxes of those, too.

A few days ago, this pasta, La Moderna star-shaped, 7 oz, 20 per case cost $6.46. At Amazon. Today, the same item is priced at over $19.00 per case!

I bought 2 cases at the lower price.

Same brand of bowties is currently $8.34 per case of 20 7 oz pkgs.

I would guess that Amazon is probably out of stock on it, as the $19.00 price is "by Hakoco". The 20pk cases of other shapes of that same brand of pasta "by Amazon" are $7.92-$9.00, and several of them say they only a a few left. If you wanted to get more at that lower price, you might keep checking back every day. I've been able to get many things close to the older price by watching for them to come back into stock "by Amazon".

Last time I was in walmart I was really hungry so I bought a couple of Nathans hot dogs on a bun. Even with nothing on the bun the hot dogs were delicious. Particulary compared to the Bar-s cheap ones.
I feed the Bar-S dogs to my dogs as a treat. They love ‘em. I can’t tolerate the taste.
My mom used to stretch hotdogs by slicing them into scalloped potatoes, mac and cheese
I slice them into Mac & cheese, along with frozen peas. This is after the m&c is prepared. Yummy.

I used to get the Sam’s Club rotisserie chickens. I think they were $5.99 a couple years ago. The chickens were very large and I considered them well worth the asking price. Then they struck the size of the birds to roughly half what they were but kept the price the same. At that point I stopped buying them.

I bought one last Saturday and it was huge! I find their rotisserie birds to be a hit or miss kinda thing. If they're small I pass, if they're huge like the last one I bought then I will buy one or more of them and cut them up to freeze when I get home. It makes a really good chicken salad sammie and/or white chicken chili.

Same with Meijer chickens.
They’re pretty big most of the time (the seasoning isn’t as good as it used to be but maybe that’s my imagination lol) ….the last one I bought was smaller, then last week I looked at them and that particular night , they looked as big as they used to.

Who knows.

Deanne & Anney: So right.....I buy Dave's Killer Bread which is expensive and find it almost stales within a couple of days.....if I buy Rudi's bread it molds quickly......and I live in low humidity front range Colorado.........hard to keep fresh bread these days...and I don't bake it, yet.......

I bought a $6.99 loaf of Keto Friendly bread from Sprouts and it molded well before its buy-by date. I got only one sandwich out of it before it molded.

I won’t buy that again. I guess I have been on this keto diet for so long, I just really wanted a sandwich made of real bread.

That was way too much to spend for only one single ham and cheese sandwich before molding.

I am back to eating my ham and cheese “sandwiches” between two large romaine lettuce leaves...
