I've been doing pretty well with Walmart pickup orders, only a few things occasionally out of stock. The one thing we haven't been able to find anywhere (dh actually goes shopping in real stores) is rubbing alcohol, but the other day they actually had some! $1.24 each, instead of the 88 cents they used to be, but not too bad. I ordered the limit of 3, and when I got them...they were 16 oz. instead of a quart! Ha! I was glad to get them, even at that price, but it was just so funny...I've never seen mini alcohol bottles! I hope to get another 3 next time. (Eastern Oregon)

Went shopping at my local Shurfine a while ago. Had to get more beer. I check the meat cooler every time I go there. They had a sign the last 6 weeks apologizing for the shortage of meat due to a supplier issue. They have meat, just not as much as normal. They get supplies from other distributors though to fill the gap and tonight I caught ten lb bags of boneless skinless chicken breast for $1.29 a lb so I grabbed two of the last 4 bags they had left. Couldn't pass up a deal like that. Ground beef, 80% lean is $3.99 a lb for small packs. Down from $4.76 last year. Overall, most everything is back to normal.

Day by day
Just got back from HEB, very well stocked for the most part. But - no thermometers (oral), did see one forehead thermometer in the baby aisle, but that was it.

Quick update - I had to go back for some odds and ends today. Checked once more for thermometers, and saw a notice posted up that thermometers are at the Pharmacy. You have to talk to the Pharmacy staff to get one - and only one per customer - but they do have some.

Got word that our beef was being processed last Wednesday. We got on the list in April. Should have to make a trip to pick it up some time this week. No one left in this area to process one had to go to San Marcus to have it done.

I went into the downtown "city target" yesterday.
It had NO hotdogs, no chicken breasts, very little lunch meats, only organic eggs, short of yogurt, ice cream, and entire sections had been "re adjusted to hide the gaps". Amazing to me as this store has been in what I call Romanian cold war supply mode since it got stripped naked back in March and April. Thank God I got my food there back in January and Feburary when you could still buy 10 cans of Progresso Lentil soup at a time.
The target store has NEVER recovered from that first sheeple locust attack.
I posted somewhere on timebomb the overheard at the checkout stand conversation, with the logistics girl from Seattle, talking about the export/import company saying no rice for six months? DONE DEAL. The system can't take a second run.

Ran into Aldi's today. Most everything was well stocked. They had hamburger on sale for $1.99 a pound. I never buy much of their fresh meat, but at that price I thought I would try it. Brought it home and made chili out of it. It didn't shrink down any worse than any I've bought elsewhere. Had a good flavor and I am still alive so it's all good. ;) They still have holes in the freezer meat section. 2 of the big freezer bunkers were completely empty, but may they are going to be getting in holiday stuff or something...that was unsual.

Bluelady, I have noticed very small containers on some products like applesauce and canned fruit that I had assumed would be the normal size I usually get at the store. I double check and compare with what I have on hand now before ordering.

parsonswife, I read somewhere here that Modesto also was lacking in milk. I am wondering if the smoke from the fires has changed the taste. Perhaps it was rejected by quality control.

I checked walmart , Albertsons and Safeway Medford Oregon and dairy is full. Yesterday's photo of Klamath Falls must be a delivery problem not an umpqua dairy problem. FYI Klamath Falls is south eastern Oregon 90 mile from Medford.

It seems to me that the whole supply chain is about as sturdy as a 99 year old stepping on a banana peel. One week there is a supply, the next not so much or none. Different items but something always missing. And prices are going up like crazy on almost everything. Weekly bargains can still be found but often with limits of only one maybe two. I think shortages and rising prices are the new normal and unfortunately likely to continue on that slippery slope.

I am learning to be more flexible with my meal planning and also more careful about not wasting anything.

Yes I know. I was one of the organizers for Siskiyou of the Bucket Brigade, way back when. There were substantial fires in Medford area, Modoc and Siskiyou last month.

Also Walmart had no packaged chili seasoning and other packaged seasonings with the exception of a few McCormack taco seasoning and a little packaged gravy mix.

You can really see the overall dollar devaluation in the food prices now. Spent $130 at the grocery store this week for the first time ever. Doesn’t sound too bad but I’m single and 10 years ago it was more like $65 a week. So counting on my fingers that is about a 50% devaluation in 10 years as I don’t eat differently now than I did back then. And I’m making more than I did back then but not double in hourly wage. I feel bad for those on fixed incomes or who have a lot of kids.

After a long absence of about 7 months, I'm finally finding rubbing alcohol again!

Also a note about canned pumpkin, it's been hit or miss at the usual places I shop (walmart, aldi, and Kroger) but I'm finding it at dollar general for a buck a can.

This past week I've been to several different stores and everything looked pretty good, no head lettuce at walmart yesterday but that's the only shortage I saw.

And yes prices keep going up. Pork and chicken are still mostly reasonable but it depends where I go, usually Aldi for our meats. I don't even look at steaks anymore, even cube steak is outrageous :(

OK, they are ruining my life now. I just spent an hour trying to find veggie pepper online. Don't want the 1 lb if you could even get it the problems Frontier is having. Want the glass spice jars. Finally found someone with 9 jars so snapped them up if they don't cancel which I have been running into.
I've used it on everything for years. I know we are spoiled but even though I still have a couple of jars how the heck does a person even think of all the BS shortages they have now. Pumpkin? Veggie pepper?

Central Iowa: I was out yesterday and will go out today (briefly) -- Target (new microwave), Aldi, Walmart, HyVee, Fareway.

No shortages of note. Cleaning wipes are back at Walmart, albeit an off-brand (new house brand?). All canned veggies and dried beans (although several cents higher) were available at Fareway. Frozen food sections at all stores well-stocked. Beverage aisles were well-stocked but plenty of plastic bottles, few cans. Plenty of paper towels and TP, but with limits.

I didn't see any carts filled to the top, except several ladies who were probably buying for an organization (had the restaurant-sized cans and other bulk purchases).

No violence. People seemed focused (many had lists) and were moving quickly.

..... I feel bad for those on fixed incomes or who have a lot of kids.

The sting is tangible here. He ol food stamps gave us a bump. We're now allotted $6.25 each per day for grub.

Still doable, but one needs to be diligent in shopping sales, best bang for the buck. Cook from scratch, stay away from restaurants of any type, and always accept excess produce from friends and family.

I do see monthly commodities being accepted in our near future. Aldi's is our friend, certainly.

Glad you got a bump! I tried applying this week but we make $80 over the limit. I would have been glad to get it but I know there are folks who are in much worse straits than my family. Plus we have a good sized pantry to dip into, many folks don't .

I always love a challenge so that is how I'm approaching our decreased food budget. And I agree about Aldi, they are a lifesaver!

Went on another beer run today at my local Shurfine store and found ten lb bags of boneless skinless chicken breast marked down to .99 cents a lb. Had to grab at least one. Now I have 30 lbs of chicken in my fridge waiting to be processed. Almost ready to go back and buy 40 more lbs and dig out the pressure canner. Might need lids though.

Sure, it is nothing special. pepper, garlic, celery flakes, red bell but it lasts a long time in the sealed jars and I don't want to buy everything separate. I use it instead of salt cause of BP. Like I said spoiled and lazy that's me now days.

If you have a Trader Joe’s they have something called 21 Seasoning Salute. No salt and lots of different veggies and spices

I never heard of veggie pepper.

A friend tells me there is a seasoning called "Supreme" that she loves....sold at Meijer. I don't get to Meijer very often, anymore, and never heard of that seasoning....have any of you?

I've been without an oven since March. Stove top works, just the oven is out. For a while it was OK because it's been so hot but now I want a new one. My landlord ordered one from Costco on 9-24 with an estimated delivery of 10-1. Then it changed to 10-14. Then it changed to 10-31. He texted me a couple days ago and said now they are saying 11-30. He ordered one from Home Depot which said estimated delivery 10-14. He said whichever one comes first we'll keep and send back the other. I know for a while there was a run on freezers but must be affecting all appliances. Hope I get one in time to do a turkey on Thanksgiving....

A few weeks ago I had to replace my water heater. The plumber told me they had a certain unit in stock but they could order a different one if I didn't mind waiting and waiting and waiting. I was happy with the one they had in stock. I think the shortages are across the board on all sorts of major appliances.

I wonder why it’s so hard to find help, and if that’s true in their other depts., or just in that one.
Are so many unemployed people still getting benefits?
