That was my first thought as well. But that much canning in an urban area? I can't think of any other reason, however.

A lot of people, me being one of them, use white vinegar and baking soda to clean with. I'm allergic to everything else. A lot of folks want to go back to being "natural".
In my area of the mid South, you have never been able to find vinegar in the store from May until about mid November. And scrubbing pads (the Brillo kind) were non existent from Sept -Feb. Since all the Dollar stores carry them, you can get them now.

I haven't been able to find any of those large diaper-safety pins lately
..have had to resort to wearing suspenders w/ the chore shorts
dunno if it's a store/area specific issue, or not.

Kind of thread drift, but can also have a bearing on the vinegar shortage besides canning season (our canning season won't seriously hit until next month).

Lots of folks here in CO have resorted to using a mix of vinegar, salt and dawn DW to kill weeds.

Every time I try to restock my 20% ag vinegar it's out of stock. The guy at the local Ace Hardware said they get a shipment in once a week and it's gone the same day.

Everything around here is now resistant to any brand of ground clear (I know, I tried).

Oh, I forgot to mention that if anyone has a Meijer near them, they had a good selection of canning jar lids. They were $3.49 per box, but they had a sign stating that a limit of 6 since they’re in such high demand.

(Salt also had a limit of 2 per high demand.)

jward...don't know what function you need the pins for, but could you substitute horse blanket pins?

Just got back from shopping. There is an empty section where cheese went. I am not sure what kind of cheese. It was that way 2 weeks ago and still is, but plenty of other cheese. Two stores out of chicken flavored can cat food. Plenty of the other flavors, just the certain chicken my cats eat. For a month now the natural brand of dish soap we use has been gone. Shortage of people working. Wendy's closed inside at 2 and driveup window at 3 and sign said no help.

The strangest thing was when I stopped at the small own gas station by my house. There was a line backed up onto the street. After waiting my turn, I saw why. Two of the four pumps had bags over the handles. The guy on the other side of me was filling up three gas cans. I went inside to pay and asked the guy what was up with the pumps. He just shrugged and said they hadn’t had a tanker refill recently. I asked if they were going to get one soon, and he shrugged again and said he didn’t know. Weird.
I drove to Eastern IA today to meet my parents so they could take youngest DS for a week. The Casey's in Farley IA only had 1 grade of gas available. I arrived as the fuel truck was pulling out of the station.......

I had to stop for gas three times today. Except for the 7AM fill up, every station was jam packed, but no lines.

All other stations had all varieties available. Judging by the out of state plates, I would guess the volume is from people going home after 4th of July vacation week.

This isn't grocery store related but it is shrinkage related. When I opened my big box meal from KFC I thought they gave me thighs instead of 2 breasts and a wing. On closer inspection I could see it was breasts only the size of thighs. I wouldn't care except I make chicken salad sandwitches the next day to justify the cost. They always have those big breasts so was kinda surprised. Don't know if it is a one offer or if this will be the way it is from now on.

I usually drink diet 7UP. I like the smaller 7.5 oz cans. Today my niece went to the store and there wasn’t any canned 7UP.
I also wanted the Acme brand fat free Salad dressing . Most of the salad dressing on the shelf was already at the expiration date.

When I went last week I wanted 5 6 packs of the 16oz Diet Cokes. They were on sale 5/ $10. They had none but they substituted 4 8 packs of 12oz bottles and of those they only had 4. I asked the gal loading my car and she said they don't know what their going to get anymore and said Coca Cola and Gatorade products are very low in stock right now.

Sunday I went to the 99cent store and they had pallets of Gatorade waiting to be put on the shelf. I guess it's hit and miss who gets what anymore...

Last year when everything was locked down I was getting some chicken fingers from a local pizzeria. It was always 6 jumbo fingers. They were so good and I got the sauce and ranch on the side with fries. I usually ate 3 and saved the rest for lunch the next day. I ordered some a couple weeks ago and there were only 5 and they were so scrawny. I was so disappointed. Now I am hesitant to order again.

I've done that too, but I use the really good ACV for that, its $20 a gallon. Its the use to be cheap stuff that I use in my bath.

I use Bragg organic vinegar...and it a little over 5.00 a quarter here now.
I use it morning and evening...it is also antiviral and has many health benefits.
I haven't ever used in a bath.

can you share how this works? I see click bait adds on other sites talking about this/ wonderif it works,

I take about 8 oz of water and add 2 tablespoons of vinegar and 1/4 teaspoon of baking soda to it and stir it. It will foam up. Then drink it ...I like the taste and the baking soda stops it from upsetting the stomach...at mine ...this is not a fast way to lose weight. It is just very gradual but it works for me.

I told a very seriously overweight man we know about it and he is losing and over joyed. He had tried many things and nothing worked but this is .

All I can tell anyone is to do it twice a day and be religious about it. It is very slow and don't lose faith. I really notice the difference when I have to walk a long distance across a blacktop parking lot in high heat and humidity. No longer bothered by that or running up and down stairs. It really takes time. It seems to be very healthy for my body. I look forward to it.

I forgot to add I use Bragg organic vinegar and I shake it well before adding it to the water.

Braggs is what I was talking about and I need to start putting it in my body again. I won't spend that kind of money for my bath. At least the store bought ACV is less than $5 a gallon, still.

Last week I contacted Milton's Bakery to ask why I cant get their bread all of a sudden. This morning I received this reply.

Bread is spotty in CA and not anywhere else. Due to delivery being a problem our bread is not in the market as it used to be. Please try requesting it in the store you most recently received it in as that is the best way to relieve it. I do apologize if this has caused any inconvenience.

Not sure what to make of this. Why would delivery be a problem? Most of the commercial bakeries have their own delivery trucks. So don't really understand what she was saying. The deliveries seemed to stop just before the 4th.

Maybe they don't have enough drivers? What kind of bread is it again?

I noticed what was supposed to be a "good deal" on steaks at Fairway at $6.99 each.

Then I read underneath the steak illustration, 8 ounce size.

Double that price for the actual cost.

ETA: I had the price wrong; it is a dollar higher! There is no shortage of beef cattle around here!

We get a grocery add every week from a local store. for the longest time now there is only one canned food in the entire ad thats in a can. There are a small handful of foods in glass or plastic jars. Everything else is boxed or bagged. Boxed and bagged are not foods I eat very often, so they are not part of my regular pantry.

No plain frozen vegetables, what they do have has additives. The fresh vegetables in the ad were very few.

Few cans advertised and few fresh frozen vegetables are a sign to me.

All of Bragg's products are sensational, their spices delicious, vibrant for casseroles, stews and rice flavoring. The sea kelp flakes are at walmart in spice aisle and doctor up a tuna casserole well

can order direct if out of stock on shelves due to lack of drivers

Products (bragg.com)

I recall Katy Perry and others raving about using Bragg's cider vinegar for daily morning smoothies for weightloss over a decade ago, spotted carrying small bottles out of the gym.

Makes great salad dressing with drizzle of oil, excellent to mix with other vinegar for brine and worth every penny.

search Bragg's + weight loss for recipes, some use honey to sweeten, of note if you have pollen issues

*POWEL: INFLATION DATA HIGHER THAN EXPECTED AND HOPED FOR
View: https://twitter.com/PhantasmaSoul1/status/1415351838673494016?s=20

I see a lot of people freaking out about the increase in CPI, but who don't seem to know what it means. I want to make this CLEAR. These numbers ONLY matter to you if you buy cars, food, housing, or miscellaneous items.

So everything?

When asked to define "some time" Powell replied "it depends." This is getting comical. Then Powell admitted it was a good question. Yes it was. Too bad Powell refused to answer it? It's also too bad there was no follow up question "Depends on what?"

He can't answer that either!

According to Powell #inflation is not a problem unless it continues for several years. So if we just get a permanent surge in prices, say 25% over a year or two, but then future price increases return to just 2% per year, then the entire rise in the #CPI is considered transitory.

Peter Schiff CPI and PPI Expose Transitory Inflation Ruse – Ep 714 (50min)
July 14, 2021
  • Fed forced to admit that inflation will be higher and last longer than they predicted.
  • June CPI numbers come in almost double Fed’s expectations.
  • Highest monthly CPI increase in 13 years.
  • Stock indexes are not a hedge against inflation.
  • Producer costs are rising faster than consumer prices.
  • Consumer prices are rising faster than wages.
  • No signs that inflation is transitory in the oil market.

KFC has been using smaller and smaller chickens as time has passed. I believe someone here said that these days, they’re using 6 week old young ones. And remember when a 10 piece bucket with sides was $12 almost every day? Not anymore. It’s been $20 for several years now. I’m not paying that for tiny little chicken parts.

I'm a fan of Bragg's products myself. I've been using their ACV, nutritional yeast, liquid aminos and their coconut liquid aminos for years.
