Elon Musk told users they will soon be able to see how many times a tweet is viewed on the platform

Twitter CEO Elon Musk told users on the platform that they will soon be able to see how many times their tweets have been viewed after a user claimed nobody reads his tweets.

Musk turned to the social media platform on Thursday, pleading with users to speak up instead of just scrolling through.

"I meet so many people who read Twitter every day, but almost never tweet," he said. "If I may beg your indulgence, please add your voice to the public dialogue!"

Twitter user Rocket_Medic replied to Musk’s request to speak up on the platform more, saying, "I reply a lot…no one reads my tweets."

Musk then asked Rocket_Medic if he has looked at his tweet analytics, which can be viewed by clicking on the three dots in the upper right-hand side of a tweet.

"Those who read tweets outnumber those who reply/retweet/like tweets by over 1000%," Musk said. "Twitter will start showing view count for all tweets, just as view count is shown for all videos. The system is far more alive than it would seem."

Since purchasing the platform in October, Musk has pushed for more freedom of speech. At the same time, the billionaire has come under fire for some of the actions he's taken in the name of restoring that freedom.

This week, Musk said Apple threatened to remove the Twitter app from its store.

On Wednesday, Musk walked back his claims after having a "good conversation" with Apple CEO Tim Cook, in which Cook assured him the app will remain in the App Store.

Evidence grows of left-wing Twitter purge directed by Musk
Brett Wilkins, Common Dreams
December 01, 2022

While claiming to have bought the social media giant in order to make it "an inclusive arena for free speech," multibillionaire Twitter owner Elon Musk is apparently overseeing what critics claim is a purge of anti-fascist voices, The Intercept reported Tuesday.

"No one should've honestly believed Elon Musk would use his ownership of Twitter to champion free speech."

"Several prominent anti-fascist organizers and journalists have had their accounts suspended in the past week, after right-wing operatives appealed directly to Musk to ban them and far-right internet trolls flooded Twitter's complaints system with false reports about terms of service violations," The Intercept's Robert Mackey and Micah Lee wrote.

Among the suspended Twitter accounts are those of journalist Vishal Pratap Singh, who covers far-right protests in California; the Elm Fork John Brown Gun Club, which provides security for LGBTQ+ events in Texas; the anarchist collective CrimethInc; and anti-fascist researcher Chad Loder.

"What I believe happened is that I and other accounts have been mass reported for the last few weeks by a dedicated group of far-right extremists who want to erase archived evidence of their past misdeeds and to neutralize our ability to expose them in the future," Loder told The Intercept.

"What I suspect happened is that Twitter's automatic systems flagged my account for some reason and no human being is reviewing these," Loder added.

A common thread connects the aforementioned suspensions: All were flagged by far-right conspiracy theorist and social media influencer Andy Ngo, who, in a Twitter exchange was invited by Musk to identify accounts for possible suspension.

"Andy Ngo's bizarre vision of 'Antifa' seems to be the metric used to delete the accounts of journalists and publications, most of which engaged in verifiably good journalism and [have] done so completely above board and [terms of service] observant ways," tweeted Shane Burley, editor of the anthology ¡No Pasarán!: Anti-fascist Dispatches From a World in Crisis. "Paranoid delusions about Antifa are driving it."

In recent days, a list of thousands of purported "Antifa" Twitter accounts—including those of CNN, actor Danny DeVito, the World Health Organization, and a "professional dog rater"—has been circulating online.

While calling the list "absurd," listee Nick Martin, publisher of the extremism monitoring site The Informant, warned: "Don't dismiss it. A mass flagging campaign has begun based on the list and is already claiming victory for a number of bans. It's a sign far-right extremists see Elon Musk as an ally who will empower them and destroy their enemies."

The suspensions of left-wing accounts came as Musk restores the accounts of far-right figures, some of whom—like former U.S. President Donald Trump—have called for or incited violence on the platform.

"The irony isn't lost on us that our suspension coincides with a coordinated effort to reinstate the most vile antisemitic, transphobic hate accounts," Elm Fork John Brown Gun Club told The Intercept. "Whether this is an indication of the future of leadership of Elon Musk's running of Twitter, we cannot say but we can say that the timing and reasoning is deliberate and targeted."

CrimethInc, which before the current suspension had never run afoul of Twitter's terms of service in its 14-year existence, said that "Musk's goal in acquiring Twitter had nothing to do with free speech. It was a partisan move to silence opposition, paving the way for fascist violence."

Jacobin's Branko Marcetic wrote Tuesday that "no one should've honestly believed Elon Musk would use his ownership of Twitter to champion free speech."

"Besides the fact that the man is a professional bullshitter," he added, "it was always dubious that a guy who slaps employees with gag orders and bars them from wearing pro-union messages had a genuine commitment to the proverbial marketplace of ideas."

Elon Musk says Ye suspended from Twitter following Swastika post

Ye, formerly known as Kanye West, has been suspended from Twitter after posting an image of a swastika depicted inside a Star of David on Thursday night, Elon Musk announced.

Details: Twitter deleted the image for violating the social media site's rules. The musician's account stated that it's "suspended" and all his previous activity was hidden as of early Friday.

  • "I tried my best," Musk tweeted. "Despite that, he again violated our rule against incitement to violence. Account will be suspended."
The big picture: Ye posted the image hours after unleashing a barrage of antisemitic remarks during an interview with a conspiracy theorist.

  • His Twitter account was restricted in October due to antisemitic tweets that led Adidas and several other companies to drop Ye, but it was reinstated after Musk completed his $44 billion acquisition of Twitter.
Flashback: Musk said Twitter "did not consult with or inform me" before restoring Ye's page, but he responded to the artist's return by tweeting to him "Don’t kill what ye hate Save what ye love."

Of note: Civil rights groups and other advocates have raised concern over the billionaire's pledge for a "general amnesty" for suspended Twitter accounts "provided that they have not broken the law" or engaged in "egregious spam."

What we're watching: It was not immediately clear how long Ye would be suspended from Twitter, but free speech advocate Musk has said permanent bans should be only rarely issued.

GREG GUTFELD: Elon Musk is ticking off all the elite

Once again, Elon Musk is pissing off all the right people. At first it was Hollywood, everyone and their coke dealer either threatening to leave Twitter or left Twitter because they couldn't handle all the free speech.

The only speech they can handle is usually the script someone else wrote for them. This week you got Jim Carrey tweeting that he's leaving. Good, don't let the door hit you and your talking a** on the way out.

But now there's another reason you won't hear about his movies. Then it was the far-lefties like AOC, every other tweet from her was like a deranged note a crazy ex would leave on your bedroom mirror in lipstick. You know, I should know — it has happened to me a couple of times. Now it's Antifa.

First of all, who knew they could actually read? These morons are so dumb, when they have to go to the bathroom, they scratch at the front door so someone will let them out.

The Intercept reports that several freaks have had their accounts suspended after right-wing operatives appealed directly to Musk to ban them. The lefties blame Andy Ngo, a far-right citizen journalist, and when I say far-right, I mean so far, everything he's written about these scumbags has been right.

Last week, he tweeted at Elon that Antifa Twitter accounts were promoting riots, to which Musk replied, "Incitement to violence will result in account suspension." Now see how easy that was, Jack Dorsey? Why didn't you think of that two years ago?

And so they were kicked off Twitter faster than you can say, "How do you like that, you non-showering, Marxist-loving, yellow-bellied scum buckets?"

Yeah, they were kicked off faster than Brian Kilmeade holding on to a cliff in one of my many reoccurring dreams — every time. And before you knew it, Portland's Antifa chapter was threatening revenge, organizing protests at Tesla dealerships.

The upside? They won't have to set the electric cars on fire when they'll just catch fire on their own. And what kind of person even agrees with these miscreants?

ANNOUNCER: Never classy, she is so sassy, feeling maligned, slowly losing her mind. Can't keep opinions to herself with white fragility on her bookshelf. Overeducated and under-medicated. She won't be happy 'til we're all castrated. She's the one that we call Dirtbag Deb.

DIRTBAG DEB: Hey, Elon Musk banned Antifa. That is unnecessary censorship. We, I mean, they didn't do anything wrong.

MAN: Look, Deb, I don't have time for this, OK? I got to…

DIRTBAG DEB: "Elon Musk spews hate speech, and he must be stopped." That's a good one. I'm going to tweet that.

MAN: Well hold on, wait a minute. Isn't that you calling for censorship?

DIRTBAG DEB: Yeah, so?

MAN: Well, you're freely tweeting your opinion, that's kind of hypocritical, right?

DIRTBAG DEB: Huh? You really made me think. [Screams]

Violence. Meantime, you got dedicated Supercuts user — that's sad — Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen claiming she misspoke when she said there's no basis to review Musk's Twitter purchase. You know, she looks like Newt Gingrich, if he was transitioned.

At a New York Times event yesterday, she said the deal would warrant a government review if national security concerns were raised, which was a complete 180 from when she told CBS just a few weeks ago that there's no basis for an investigation. Yep, she caved faster than Jerry Nadler on a hunger strike. I haven't seen a reversal like that since Brit Hume wrestled Tyrus. I think they were wrestling.

Elon Musk has wasted little time making his mark on Twitter since he took over last month.
Of course, the White House is pissed because now that Elon owns it, they know they can no longer control the site's narratives. Elon said yesterday that before he bought Twitter, the "obvious reality" was that Twitter "has interfered in elections" through content moderation.

And now Twitter's old content moderator admits that was wrong. He's referring to the censorship of the New York Post's blurb about Hunter Biden's laptop, all to make sure old Joe would be stinking up the Oval Office with emissions created by chasing crabcakes with vanilla Ensure. Yeah.

Then there's Liz Warren imploding when asked about Elon.

FOX BUSINESS REPORTER HILLARY VAUGHN: Republicans say that Democrats are picking on Elon Musk.

SEN. ELIZABETH WARREN: Elon Musk is doing just fine.

VAUGHN: But do you think that users have a right to freedom of speech, even if what they're saying is wrong or offensive?

WARREN: I think that one human being should not decide how millions of people communicate with each other... One human being should not be able to go into a dark room by himself and decide, "Oh, that person gets hurt from, that person doesn't." That's not how it should work.

Sen. Elizabeth Warre, D-Mass., spoke to Fox Business about Elon Musk's handling of Twitter (Screenshot/Fox News)
And there she goes. Have you ever noticed how these politicians are always in a hurry, but nothing ever gets done? Where are they going? Where's she going?

She's either late for a committee hearing or she has a tiny bladder. Anyway, she's as bitter as a bowl of peyote. Why don't you rain dance back to the commune... For God's sakes, stop dressing like Prince. Then there's this clown answering questions to the best of her ability, which is none.

PETER DOOCY: When are you guys going to delete the White House Twitter account?

KARINE JEAN-PIERRE: Why would we do that?

DOOCY: Well, you're saying that you're keeping an eye on Twitter because it might not be a suitable platform, so why use it?

JEAN-PIERRE: Look, I want to be very clear here. The president has always said and he has been very, very clear in his belief that it is important for social media platforms to continue to take steps to reduce hate speech and misinformation.

White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre speaks during the daily briefing at the White House in Washington. (AP Photo/Susan Walsh)
Well, this lady looks down more often than someone trying on new shoes. She says the site must reduce hate speech and misinformation. Oddly, though, it's the left that seems to corner that market. But Elon's not just pissing off these bozos. The E.U. has threatened to ban Twitter unless he abides by its strict rules on content moderation.

The European head told Musk he must adhere to a checklist of rules, including ditching an arbitrary approach to reinstating banned users. What does that mean? Pursuing disinformation aggressively and agreeing to extensive, independent audits by next year or else.

Well, I guess this idiot forgot that although Twitter is global, it's still as American as Cinnamon Pop Tarts and 4th of July mattress sales. Which makes me wonder, how do you say blow it out your a** in German, French, Italian, Spanish, Swedish and Polish?

What has been known, suspected, and now confirmed is that fascism is at work in this country. Musk has shown us its traditional definition — the collusion of elites in the public and private sectors for the purposes of exerting their power over the populace — is already deployed.
