Musk Blasts Claims That Reinstating Banned Twitter Accounts Puts 'Lives At Risk'

Twitter’s new boss Elon Musk took a swipe at a mainstream media report that cited activists claiming lives were being put at risk by Musk’s decision to reinstate a number of banned Twitter accounts, including that of former President Donald Trump.

Much Ado About Nothing,” Musk said in a tweet Friday, responding to left-leaning Axios’ report that carried the caption: “Activists warn lives at risk over Elon Musk’s amnesty plans for suspended Twitter accounts.”

Musk on Thursday announced a “general amnesty” for some suspended Twitter accounts, provided that the accounts weren’t engaging in “egregious spam” or hadn’t broken the law.
“The people have spoken,” Musk wrote on Twitter in response to a poll that showed the vast majority of his followers on the platform voting in favor of a “general amnesty” for banned accounts.

Amnesty begins next week. Vox Populi, Vox Dei,” he added, which translates as “the voice of the people, the voice of God” in Latin.
That came several days after Musk ran a poll asking his Twitter followers to weigh in on whether Trump’s suspended account should be reinstated, with most voting in favor.
“The people have spoken. Trump will be reinstated. Vox Populi, Vox Dei,” Musk said in a post.
But Musk’s decision to reinstate suspended accounts has fired up critics who see unfettered speech as a danger.
Axios, a left-leaning media outlet, ran a story in response to Musk’s pledge to restore suspended accounts, sharing it on Twitter with the caption: “Activists warn lives at risk over Elon Musk’s amnesty plans for suspended Twitter accounts.”
The report cited a number of individuals and organizations who had a critical take on Musk’s banned account reinstatement.
One of the individuals Axios cited was Alejandra Caraballo, clinical instructor at Harvard Law’s cyberlaw clinic, who told The Washington Post that for marginalized communities, the amnesty was “existentially dangerous.”

It’s like opening the gates of hell in terms of the havoc it will cause,” Caraballo said, adding that “People who engaged in direct targeted harassment can come back and engage in doxing, targeted harassment, vicious bullying, calls for violence, celebration of violence.”
She added that both Apple and Google should consider removing Twitter from the respective app store offerings.
The report also cited another opponent of Musks’s banned account reinstatement, Imran Ahmed, CEO of campaign group the Center for Countering Digital Hate.
“Superspreaders of hate, abuse, and harassment will be the only people to benefit from this latest decision by Twitter,” Axios cited Ahmed as saying, via the Guardian.
Musk’s characterization of the claims in Axios’ report as little more than a tempest in a teacup drew a range of reactions from Twitter users, both critical and sympathetic.

‘Not Freedom of Reach’

When Musk took over Twitter at the end of October, he vowed to dial down the previous management’s restrictions on free speech on the platform while pledging to maintain curbs on illegal activity and reduce the number of bots.
He also announced earlier in November that Twitter’s new policy is “freedom of speech, but not freedom of reach,” adding that Twitter wouldn’t demonetize and not promote “hate/negative tweets.”
“You won’t find the tweet unless you specifically seek it out, which is no different from rest of Internet,” Musk said.
Following Musk’s takeover at the end of October, there was a spike in “hate speech impressions” on the platform, Musk acknowledged in a tweet on Thursday.
But those impressions have since dropped to levels lower than before the surge in negative posts, he added.

Yesterday ^^^^^^^^^^^ This involved Kim K's involvement with so-called Balenciaga models modeling handbags with toy dolls in their Balenciaga purses with fake blood in the bottoms of the bags. Kim said she's seriously considering her relationship with them, and this morning apparently Balenciaga apologized. Smarmy. I see stuff, I don't post it. Too gross. I saw the pictures.

Lol. Apple will likely regret taking on Elon.
And Apple users who can't use the Twitter app aren't gonna be happy. They might just rethink their choice of devices.

However, I'm waiting for Google to cave too and threaten to remove it from the Play Store.

Either way, it's very entertaining to watch liberal heads explode.
They are absolutely addicted to Twitter, it inflates their egos and narcissism, and they just can't live without it, so they're in a tough spot now.

Remember when they were all saying "if you don't like it, get your own platform"? Well, that's exactly what Musk did, it just happened to be Twitter. :lkick:

If @elonmusk
was on Jeffrey Epstein’s client list - he’d be hidden and protected by our government.

- but since he wants free speech - he’s a government target.

Evil forces are at work here.

Look -- everybody went to Epstein Island if they were anybody. The question is what did they do there and were they frequent visitors. I have looked and there is exactly one picture of a much younger Musk with Epstein's old lady. That's it. I think Elon was smart enough to figure out he didn't really want to be involved. Or we would have heard more about it by now.

Here's How Elon Musk Can Help Expose the Biden Admin's Collusion With Big Tech

Spencer Brown

Democrats, mainstream media outlets, and big tech companies such as Apple Inc. are ramping up their threats and attacks against Elon Musk and the direction in which he's chosen to lead Twitter, namely ending the censorious wokescold habits of its previously leaders. And now, one Republican lawmaker is looking to use Musk's leadership at Twitter to expose the Biden administration's collusion with big tech to protect Democrats and punish conservatives.
Rep. August Pfluger, who represents Texas' 11th Congressional District, sees Musk's takeover of Twitter as more than just a benefit for the platform's users who have already begun to enjoy less censorship on the platform and the reinstatement of popular accounts that had previously been suspended, such as The Babylon Bee and Jordan Peterson. He sees an opportunity to use the new Twitter as a means to expose the Biden administration for its attempts to drive a certain narrative while silencing others as a means of advancing Democrat interests.

In a letter sent to "Chief Twit" Elon Musk on Monday, Pfluger congratulated the new Twitter boss on his successful takeover, and praised "commitment to cultivating Twitter as '...an inclusive arena for free speech.'"
"I know you are determined to take Twitter in a new direction," Pfluger's letter continued. "The American people are relieved at this fresh approach. But Congress must act to ensure Americans' First Amendment rights are not infringed–from big tech or other companies," the GOP lawmaker said. "Central to this discussion is ensuring lawmakers understand the depth of collaboration large social media companies had with government agencies when labeling disinformation," Pfluger explained before making his request for Musk to help lawmakers get a better idea of how such collusion has happened.

Recommended

"With this is mind, I respectfully ask that you report to Congress on any censorship requests from this Administration, whether from the White House, another cabinet department, or agency that is designed to be independent," Pfluger requested.
"It’s time for Twitter to expose the Biden Administration for pushing for censorship of conservatives and stories that would be harmful to Democrat narratives," Rep. Pfluger told Townhall exclusively. "President Biden’s Department of Homeland Security doesn’t get to define what free speech means, and I look forward to Elon Musk’s report to Congress and continued push to protect the First Amendment Rights of Americans," Pfluger added.
Dear Chief Twit @ElonMusk, how bad has the Biden Administration's censorship been? pic.twitter.com/4bBSQiD2nY
— Rep. August Pfluger (@RepPfluger) November 28, 2022
Rightfully, Pfluger's letter also highlighted the "serious threat to the First Amendment rights of Americans" that "originates not only from zealous government censors, but from social media companies who proactively, and many times incorrectly, label specific viewpoints as misinformation and disinformation."

Pfluger invoked recent revelations, which Townhall reported on here, that Twitter's previous leadership built "deep ties and collaborations with Department of Homeland Security (DHS) on the policing of speech." The Texas Republican added that such revelations are not "just a recent trend" but were also seen when "unelected bureaucrats worked to undermine legitimate news in partnership with social media companies to suppress a New York Post article regarding Hunter Biden prior to the 2020 election. This active collaboration with would-be arbiters of truth in the government continues to build on Twitter's history of serious lapses in judgement related to the policing of speech, protection of user data, and even in international affairs given the company potentially allowed the infiltration of foreign operatives into the form," Pfluger warned.

Speaking of Musk's work to turn things around at Twitter, Pfluger said "the American people are relieved at this fresh approach" to running Twitter and added he is "hopeful that you will be successful in this endeavor."

If Twitter really wants to improve the lives of people, then they need to limit the time logged in. Break the addiction.
And, it is an addiction.

Twitter Stops Enforcing COVID-19 Misinformation Policy

BY TYLER DURDEN
TUESDAY, NOV 29, 2022 - 08:35 AM
Twitter will no longer enforce its Covid-19 misinformation policy, under which users who deviated from prevailing establishment narratives frequently had their accounts locked or suspended.

The longstanding policy did not apply to misinformation from government officials, who frequently lied about things such as transmission, masks, vaccine efficacy, side effects, or any of the other 'science' which turned out to be patently false.

Twitter did not officially announce the change, rather, the company added a note to a page on its website outlining its Covid-19 policy.

"Effective November 23, 2022, Twitter is no longer enforcing the COVID-19 misleading information policy," reads the note, which follows a line that still reads: "As the global community faces the COVID-19 pandemic together, Twitter is helping people find reliable information, connect with others, and follow what's happening in real time."

What's more, Sky News reports that the company's Covid-19 'misleading information' policy was nuked, which showed that the company operated on a strike system in which those who had a label added to their tweets were given one strike, while those with deleted tweets were given two strikes. Users with two to three strikes would have a 12-hour lockout, while those with four strikes were permanently suspended.

The platform suspended more than 11,000 accounts and removed nearly 98,000 pieces of content for violating its COVID misinformation policy between January 2022 and September 2022, according to information published by Twitter.
The site also reduced the visibility of tweets or accounts believed to be in violation of the policy by stopping tweets or retweets from those accounts appearing in certain parts of Twitter, displaying their replies in lower positions in conversations and excluding their tweets or account from recommendations on the site. -Sky News
Of note, half of Twitter's content moderation, human rights and communications teams were laid off when new owner Elon Musk took over. Hundreds more left after Musk issued an ultimatum to staff requiring them to sign up for "long hours at high intensity" or leave.

If you recall, I’ve been saying for years now that conservatives would need an entirely separate infrastructure in order to survive. I can’t help but hope that this is the first step in implementing something like that, and that Musk is a true “white knight.” If he is, May God sustain and assist him in his efforts.
