Rodger ALL That, particularly Rescue crew, 100+ MPH and stealth be damned!

Allyson in a full fledged prerunner truck in the lead with Bekka fighting to keep up in her turbo rally Subaru playing catch me if you can racing to save the tanker crew and the original inbound crew

its like the SR71 concept of stealth-it’s already long gone by the time you realize what it is

Why does that one line make things go fuzzy for me? I really need to know, it brings so much emotion and well I don't know.

Thank you.
It is the same for me Ted. It is like, " OK, all the training, all the prepping, planning, and practice, JUST GOT REAL!"
This is death $h!t. F up now and somebody dies.

I will be without fear in the face of my enemies

I will stand brave and upright that the Lord may love me

I will speak the truth always even if it means my death

I will protect the helpless and do no wrong”

Cohickman, you are probably right, it also feels like I have been there. I haven't, I have not seen the elephant and don't want to. I did have a thought though. We are the ones needing the Calvary to ride to our rescue, we are under siege and are sore pressed.

They had crept about as close as they figured possible before the radio call to Sprout. Now it was just down to the doing.

“Alright, so…” Kara shifted things around in her lap some. “We hit the perimeter, you hit the targets to the right, I lob the bird bombs into the guys off to the left, we keep pushing forward up past the outbuildings up to where the two SUVs and trailers are next to the house. I pull us in between the SUVs and the house. You engage any of the guys on the left who stick their heads up after I bird bombed them coming in. While you keep them busy, I start slinging the med bags, and our war gear bags if we aren’t taking too much fire.”

Heidi’s voice was fighting the rain and the wind as she replied.

“As soon as you get the stuff we are taking in out of the truck and to the door, I’ll drop the gun down to you. I’ll hop down and in we go.”

Kara didn’t say anything back to Heidi. Instead, she let off the brake and started to pick up speed. She had the stubby shotgun across her body, the muzzle resting on the windowsill. She was focusing hard on the route.

“I’ll ripplefire on your first bang, Heidi”

Moments later a hellacious ripping sound accompanied by a blinding flash appeared in the edge of her vision. Kara started pumping the bird bombs off to the left, starting with the farthest point they were worried about and worked her way closer as they went.

Meanwhile Heidi was sending two or three second bursts from the MG3 at the guard positions off to the right. Each burst was twenty to thirty rounds poured into the target area. The muzzle blast looked six feet long and a foot across, blinding and horrifying, especially to those who have never found themselves on the receiving end of real machine gun fire.

Heidi couldn’t tell if she had killed all the ones she was shooting at or not. The important part was they were not shooting back at them right now. She was more worried about suppressing, terrorizing and maybe even driving them away. She heard Kara’s handiwork detonating behind her. To someone who didn’t know any better, it would sound like an artillery barrage.

Kara finished dumping the twelve-gauge bird bombs and could now focus on the driving. She had to keep her movements smooth, both because of the overloaded handling and she couldn’t risk jostling Heidi off target.

Heidi pushed back the right side of the perimeter as they went through. She swung around to start working the left side with another belt as they started their left turn to swing between the SUVs and the house.

As Kara slid behind the black white and grey splotchy SUVs and trailers, she realized they were almost completely concealed by the SUVs and the pod things on their roofs. Just before she hopped out of the driver’s seat, she keyed the radio one last time.

“Sprout! Open the ****ing door! We got luggage to move.”

Kara ran around the front of the Suburban. She whipped open the passenger doors and started grabbing bags and slinging them towards the back door to the house. She was glad to be on this side of the Suburban. The concussion from Heidi’s machine gun was brutal!

Kara grabbed the next thing she knew they needed. Heidi had used some webbing to lash together several ammo cans into two bundles. Damn! They were heavy! She turned towards the house and saw a woman in the open doorway.

“Drag the damn bags in!” Kara said as she stepped past her and set the ammo cans down just inside the doorway and headed back to the Suburban. Kara looked up at Heidi pumping rounds out to some of the danger points they identified earlier.

“Hey! Our table reservation is ready! Time to go sister!” Kara said as she stepped up to the Suburban.

Heidi turned towards Kara. She was wet to the core, the rain running down her in sheets. Her glare was fierce and her eyes bright though.

“Good! I’m hungry!” She leaned over towards Kara. “Here! Hold this.”

Heidi dropped the machine gun over the side into Kara’s arms. She slid down inside the suburban and closed the hatch. Heidi came out, her bail out bag on her.

“Let’s get inside, I’m wet and we have things to do.” Heidi said as she walked past Kara and into the house.

The war by the locals just got hit with greater fire power.

When the rest of the troops get there, it war will turn and be over.

Thanks ccg.

Or the locals could put out a call for their own reinforcements?

After all, the Valkyries may have made an impressive entrance but from the opposition's standpoint they know there are only two additional fighters bringing limited resources. I'm guessing not every opposition head was cowering behind a tree or rock. The newcomers are bedding down with locally known entities at the end of a blind canyon. After the initial shock and awe lifts Bird Bombs aren't mortars and a few fully automatic weapons against 30 or more (less casualties) with semi automatics? Full auto can burn thru ammo in a hurry. Not sure of the balance of firepower here.

Or the local warlord probably has made a few enemies? This could be an opportunity for a coup? So many possibilities!

I dunno, if they are locals and not hardened criminals or prior military the sound and sight of a few friends shredded by an MG3 might send a lot packing. But I sure hope the bastards stick around for the knockout punch!

yup...many, many possibilities.

That's why I'm over here out of the way.

Good first contact; they breached the line, got to their rally, apparently unscathed so.... all things are possible

As far as reinforcements for the local mini-warlord, how many thugs will be willing to back him vs the number of other locals that he has angered. Now that he has some hard core opposition (that is apparent to all) and has his attention focused on one target might not some very POed people start to create other problems elsewhere for him or start hitting him in the rear? Opportunity knocks.

Oh so very likely, one would hope, in the real world but, we're in CCG-Land so.....
don't lean too far out of your chair; his course corrections have been brutal in the past and there's no indication he's mellowing or running out of them. ;)

Getting older sucks.

“Sprout, Keep your heads down. One minute out. Danger close, 290 true. Archangel, Inbound HOT!”

Andrea looked over at Paige.

“Oh ****! What do we do?” Andrea said. She wasn’t sure but she knew they should do something.

Paige looked around. She wasn’t sure what to do either, but from the compass heading given, they would be coming to the rear of the farm.

“OK, Andrea, stay on the radio. Karl, keep watch on the front, I’ll keep an eye on the rear, everybody else hold positions until we know what’s going on.”

Paige moved to one of the windows. She had to see what was going on.

Everything was silent except for the rain pouring down. That was when she saw a huge orange tongue of flame out by the back fence. A ripping sound was heard in the house over the din of the rain.

Paige could see the muzzle flash and the tracers reaching out to points along the fence. She knew several of the cars holding the Under-Sherriff’s lackies, villagers or whoever were just pummeled by several controlled bursts of machine gun fire. Her attention was diverted to a series of blasts along the back fence.

The inbound vehicle was now in view. It was a Suburban, complete with gunner up top. It came forward in a curving arc, the gunner still pouring fire into the folks along the fence line. Part of Paige’s mind wanted to cheer. They were not alone anymore!

She watched the Suburban approach the house slide between the house, her Cherokee and Sabine’s SUVs.

Her trance created by the driver’s skills along with her gunners ability to shoot were disturbed by the crackled of the radio. The first woman’s voice was back.

“Sprout! Open the ****ing door! We got luggage to move.”

Shit! Paige rushed to the back door and opened it. Through the open doorway, Paige saw a very tall woman in combat gear throwing packs and bags towards the door. The woman was pulling a bunch of ammo cans from the back seat and hefting four or six cans and heading towards the door to the house. Above her, the machine gunner was still sending bursts towards the perimeter.

As the tall woman walked up to Paige, she noticed several cans were roped together in bundles with webbing like shoulder straps

The tall women spoke. “Drag the damn bags in!”

The woman set the cans down inside the house and came back outside where Paige was slinging bags and packs into the open doorway.

‘Shit who are these people’ was all Paige could think as she passed by.

Andrea, Paige, Kara and Heidi were all standing inside the kitchen by the back door. Heidi was the first to speak.

“Somebody got a towel? I don’t want to drip on everything.”

“Holy Shit! Are there only two of you?” Andrea blurted out. “It sounded like a full-scale assault force out there!”

“Yeah, only two of us, kid. Which one of you is Sprout, I mean Paige?” Kara answered.

“I’m Paige.”

“Great! Glad to meet you! So, you have bad guys surrounding you, and wounded in need of treatment. We are here to help. I’m Kara and my vicious sidekick here is Heidi. She is an Airbase Ground defense and combat specialist. I’m a medic. So, Heidi is going to make the most of keeping the bad guys from getting us while I work on the casualties. We have reinforcements coming, we just have to hold on until they arrive.”

Paige heard the same forceful overwhelming attitude she heard over the radio. These two seemed to have it all figured out. While Kara was talking, Paige also got a better look at their equipment. These two were a strange mix of full-on combat gear and something else she couldn’t put her finger on. None of that mattered right now though. They were here to help, and Kara said she was a medic. Paige turned to Andrea.

“Andrea, show Heidi around and make introductions. I’m taking Kara to the wounded.”

Kara had her aid bag on her shoulder as she followed Paige to what turned out to be the den just off the kitchen. In the den was an older lady holding a child and a woman lying on the coffee table. Kara heard Paige speaking but her eyes were on the casualties.

“Kid took a round in the shoulder. We packed it with combat gauze and she seems stable. The other one, she is a lot worse. Took several rifle rounds to the side, lots of torn stuff on their way out. I got it packed off and wrapped up but I’ve had to needle decompress four times, each one hasn’t helped as much as the one before. We remembered how to do IVs and got some fluid in, but she is hurt really bad. Tell me you can do more.”

Paige was looking at Sabine while she described her injuries. When she was done, she looked over at Kara hopefully. Kara was just staring down at Sabine. The room was silent for a few awkward moments.

Kara knelt down gently then pulled back the casualty blanket from Sabine, a very focused and unreadable look on her face. She placed one hand flat on Sabine’s chest just below her throat. After a few seconds, Kara looked over at Paige.

“As soon as Heidi gets a snapshot of our situation, I need her here.”

Kara dropped the med bag down on the floor next to Sabine and started flinging open pouches and compartments.

I took a long weekend off from the drama. And Wow! Don't think I could have stood the tension reading one post at a time. But, now I'm all caught up and waiting for the next rescue team to arrive.
Thank you again, CCG. You're weaving a great tapestry of combat for those that haven't seen this kind up and close.

And if it fits, Happy Father's Day.

Remote Paramedical pain in the ass
Heidi was trying to take in all the names and people she was meeting. No, correction, she was trying to look like she was taking in all the names. What she was really doing was trying to boil everything down to things like how many adults, and of these, how many combatants. She was evaluating as much of the layout as she could as they went. She was also looking into their faces, trying to gauge ….something? Their resolve, their fatigue factor? In a moment of clarity she had it. She was trying to measure their usefulness for the coming fight.

Each exhibited their qualities in different ways. Karen was full of rage and viciousness, Kevin’s anger is different, it’s mixed with resentment and some other emotion she wasn’t sure of. David has that European strange dichotomy of seeming reservedness yet she could tell he was ready to unleash given the opportunity. Penny was out of her depth for most of this so was resorting to the ‘how can I help’ coping mechanism for the most part, she has a redheads temper but doesn’t know what to do with it. Isadora is trying to be the rock, the foundation. Right now she is trying to help with the wounded granddaughter so the others can do other things. Heidi knew she would probably shift Isadora to something else for a bit since Paige is in with the wounded now.

Karl is trying to be the solid patriarch and keep people thinking and quell the panic, but Heidi could see it in his eyes. Karl was scared and working hard not to show it. Andrea wasn’t sure what to do or which direction to go but was ready to fight or anything else they needed. That left Paige.

Paige. The whole reason they came out here. Paige was trying to maneuver things and people and do everything she could for them. She had a very matter-of-fact flat presence Heidi wasn’t sure about. She had seen this before in a few, very few, people she had been in combat with. It was a strange sense that Paige was disconnected from the effects going on around her. Not oblivious, more like resigned and unconcerned about herself, only about her people.

Paige came up to her while she was finishing her tour and told her Kara needed her with the casualties. Not a good sign.

When Heidi walked in, the first thing she noticed was it looked like Kara’s aid bag had exploded all over the floor.

“Good you’re here. I need two things from you.” Kara started without even looking up.

Heidi looked around. Kara and her patient were the only ones in here.

“I thought there were two casualties?”

“I sent the other one with the grandmother to another area. We are going to be doing some invasive and disturbing things they didn’t need to watch.” Kara said as she set out a couple vacuum-packed bundles.

Heidi knelt down next to Kara.

“How is she doing?” Heidi asked while stating at the patient.

“Horrible. I have a lot to do and it may not work.” Kara stopped talking and sat up. “But we will save her. Period.” Kara’s voice sounded angry now.

“What do I need to do to help?”

“First, hold her still while I put a chest tube in. She has a collapsing right lung. They darted her four times and she is leaking air and blood. Once I get the tube in, we can relieve the pressure. Then we need to give her some blood. We can start with two units from me while we find out if we have any other O- donors.”

“Any other blood type work?”

“No, has to be O-, that’s her blood type. I know mine will work, that’s why we start with mine. The kits have Elden cards so we can test anyone else to make sure before we give her anyone else’s blood.”

“Did you already test hers?”

“No, checked her tags.” Kara pointed to the casualty’s dog tag bundle on her chest.

“So, chest tube. What help do you need from me? I don’t know how to do one of those.” Heidi was still trying to process everything Kara was saying, on top of the major part of her brain working out how to defend this place.

“The big thing will be to hold her still when I cut and place the tube. After I get the tube in, I’ll need you to hold it in place while I secure it.” Kara was talking while she laid out her equipment and painted the casualty’s side with iodine.

Heidi followed Kara’s instructions. She knelt next to Sabine’s left side and reaching across her body, held her hip in place and pulled her right arm across her chest towards her, exposing the incision site. She knew when Kara cut because this unconscious person twitched and pulled against her trying to get away from the pain of the knife.

Kara made her incision between the ribs. She followed this with her forceps to hold the incision open enough to pass the chest tube into the plural space. Kara placed a one way valve on the end of the tube, followed by the giant bulb syringe suction device. She looked over at Heidi.

“Good, now you can let go of her arm and hip. I need you to hold this tube in place and not let it move at all. I need to suction and secure it.”

Heidi reached over, feeling for the tube. Kara took her hands and guided it to the tube. Now Heidi found herself leaning across Sabine. That’s what Paige said her name was.

She saw Kara with a turkey baster looking thing with a bag attached. She guessed it was the suction she was talking about. Soon Kara had it hooked up to the valve thing and started squeezing it vigorously. The tube got warm in her hand and she could hear a wet, slurping sound.

Kara cut a super sticky chest seal to wrap around and secure the tube in place.

Heidi looked at Sabine’s face. She seemed to be more relaxed now. Her face was less pinched.

She looked over at Kara’s face. She still looked worried until she saw Heidi watching, then a grim smile was plastered on her face as she spoke.

“One thing down, a thousand more things to go, Let’s get this blood drawn so you can get back out there and hold the line.”
