Interesting this was leaked to the media. Unless the Captain copied the press someone who handled communication took the liberty to forward.

We saw something a couple-three days back that all military illnesses were to be secret.

Scientists in Germany have announced what they described as a first-of-its-kind study into how coronavirus spreads and how it can be contained using the country’s worst-hit district as a real-life laboratory, reports Kate Connolly from Berlin.

The virus has spread more widely among the 250,000 residents of Heinsberg – a district in North Rhine-Westphalia bordering the Netherlands – than anywhere else in Germany, with 1,281 confirmed infections and 34 deaths.

More than 550 people have recovered from the illness so far. The advance of the virus in Heinsberg, nicknamed “Germany’s Wuhan” after the Chinese city where the global pandemic emerged, is between two to two and a half weeks ahead of the rest of the country.

A cargo plane loaded with medical supplies and protection equipment may depart for the US by the end of the day Tuesday, the Kremlin said after a phone call between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin.
The issue of protective gear was raised during the Monday phone talks, with Putin asking if the US needed help and Trump accepting, Kremlin’s spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters on Tuesday.
Moscow suggested the aid in anticipation that the US will be able to return the favor if necessary, once its manufacturers of medical and protective equipment catch up with the demand, Peskov said.
The current situation “affects everyone without exception and is of a global nature,” Peskov said.
There is no alternative to acting together in the spirit of partnership and mutual assistance.

You have to be one of the guys or is it gal that puts both legs in your pants at the same time just to be different....

Just how many do post after having a couple or three to dull the pain of what we are going thru.

Texican....

Howdy, Texican!

When I drank, booze, that is, sometimes a bit of "Who Hit John" made the news seem not so bad... Now, no longer drinking, booze, that is, I don't have that anesthesia available to me... Have to content myself with books and copious amounts of hot, black, sweet, coffee... Somethings cannot be improved upon...

Statistically, there is about a 97% chance that he survives this ordeal entirely. I know next to nothing about him, but since he is a human being, I will hope he is part of the 97% that survives.
How do you know if he really has it ? Fake news maybe ?

Coronavirus could travel 27 feet, stay in air for hours: MIT researcher

Social-distancing guidelines to stay 6 feet from others may be woefully inadequate, one scientist warns — saying the coronavirus can travel 27 feet and linger for hours.

MIT associate professor Lydia Bourouiba, who has researched the dynamics of coughs and sneezes for years, warns in newly published research that the current guidelines are based on outdated models from the 1930s.

Rather than the assumed safety of 6 feet, Bourouiba warns that “pathogen-bearing droplets of all sizes can travel 23 to 27 feet.”

Her research, published in the Journal of the American Medical Association, also warns that “droplets that settle along the trajectory can contaminate surfaces” — and “residues or droplet nuclei” may “stay suspended in the air for hours.”

She notes a 2020 report from China that showed that “virus particles could be found in the ventilation systems in hospital rooms of patients with COVID-19.”

Bourouiba fears that the current guidelines are “overly simplified” and “may limit the effectiveness of the proposed interventions” against the deadly pandemic.

She says it is particularly urgent for health care workers who, she argues in her report, face an “underappreciated potential exposure range” while treating the sick and dying.

“There’s an urgency in revising the guidelines currently being given by the [World Health Organization] and the [Centers for Disease Control and Prevention] on the needs for protective equipment, particularly for the frontline health care workers,” Bourouiba told USA Today.

The World Health Organization — which suggests 3 feet is enough to remain safe — told USA Today it “welcomed” studies.
“WHO carefully monitors emerging evidence about this critical topic and will update this scientific brief as more information becomes available,” WHO said in a statement to the paper.

At least they're trying to find out what is going wrong whilst it is still happening, doubt whether many other countries are doing the same.

Not reading all the SIP orders, but this is first I've noticed that refers to homeland security recommendations...and notes the possibility of "appropriate actions"...

City amends stay-at-home order, extended through April 24

The extension for the St. Joseph stay-at-home order will go into effect Wednesday April 1.

(ST. JOSEPH, MO) The City of St. Joseph announced Tuesday an amendment to extend the stay-at-home order originally issued earlier this month.

The amendment also gives guidance, from the department of Homeland Security, for essential businesses that will remain open during the order. Essential businesses "shall make reasonable efforts to perform only the activities that qualify the business as an essential business and other activities that materially support the activities that qualify the business as an essential business. Essential businesses shall make reasonable efforts to require people to remain separated by physical space of at least six feet."

The declaration also states that "appropriate actions" may take place with respect to any person or business that fails to comply with the order.

Individual travel that is not for attending work or for essential business or to obtain necessary food, (including from restaurants), obtaining medicine, supplies, pet supplies, or medical treatment is strongly discouraged. Travel for outdoor recreation may also occur.

Restaurants that have previously suspended operation or limited service can now be allowed to sell alcohol or liquor in the original package. "Provided only original package products are sold for off-premise consumption; mixed drinks poured and repackaged by the retailer are not sold; and transactions occur by carry-out, pickup, or otherwise on the licensed premises in accordance with the Declaration and Order."

The full amendment is posted below.

Snipped by me... we don't seem to have any recovered here in Indiana. According to our stats, we test positive or die. Where can I find our recovered stats?

There are a few different aggregator sites posted on the "confirmed american cases" thread that offer that info

The captain of a nuclear aircraft carrier with more than 100 sailors infected with the coronavirus pleaded Monday with U.S. Navy officials for resources to allow isolation of his entire crew and avoid possible deaths in a situation he described as quickly deteriorating.

The unusual plea from Capt. Brett Crozier, a Santa Rosa native, came in a letter obtained exclusively by The Chronicle and confirmed by a senior officer on board the aircraft carrier Theodore Roosevelt, which has been docked in Guam following a COVID-19 outbreak among the crew of more than 4,000 less than a week ago.

“This will require a political solution but it is the right thing to do,” Crozier wrote. “We are not at war. Sailors do not need to die. If we do not act now, we are failing to properly take care of our most trusted asset — our Sailors.”

In the four-page letter to senior military officials, Crozier said only a small contingent of infected sailors have been off-boarded. Most of the crew remain aboard the ship, where following official guidelines for 14-day quarantines and social distancing is impossible.

“Due to a warship’s inherent limitations of space, we are not doing this,” Crozier wrote. “The spread of the disease is ongoing and accelerating.”

He asked for “compliant quarantine rooms” on shore in Guam for his entire crew “as soon as possible.”

“Removing the majority of personnel from a deployed U.S. nuclear aircraft carrier and isolating them for two weeks may seem like an extraordinary measure. ... This is a necessary risk,” Crozier wrote. “Keeping over 4,000 young men and women on board the TR is an unnecessary risk and breaks faith with those Sailors entrusted to our care.”

Reached late Monday, a Navy representative did not provide a response by deadline.

So far, none of the infected sailors has shown serious symptoms, but the number of those who have tested positive has jumped exponentially since the Navy reported infections in three crew members on March 24, the first time COVID-19 infections had been detected on a naval vessel at sea.

Senior military officials said last week that the entire crew of more than 4,000 will be tested. The carrier’s home port is San Diego.

At the time, Acting Navy Secretary Thomas Modly expressed confidence that they identified all the sailors who had been in contact with the trio of infected sailors and they had been quarantined.

“This is an example of how we are able to keep our ships deployed at seas and underway, even with active COVID-19 cases,” Modly said.

The health status of a US aircraft carrier is a classified matter, in war or peace. The captain has an excellent chance to go into early retirement.

So they're what, 2 to 2-1/2 weeks behind us?

Assuming the data presented reflects reality? (which has been a big problem throughout this disaster)

Just returned from an afternoon walk. Our walk took us past a fire scene with multiple fire trucks, causing a question to bubble up in my mind. No where in the past two months conversations has anyone discussed tanked air sources that I remember reading. Firefighters sometimes have to use tanked air. Which means they have to be recharged using compressors and air from some firehouse compressor site. With the virus hanging potentially in the air for hours, and asymptotic infected people, how do they assure their tanked air is not contaminated with the virus? Do they use HEPA filters on the compressor air intake? Even if they require no people in the compressor room, it would seem to me they are at risk. SCUBA gear has the same issue.

I don't know, but on our local next door site a employee from Methodist was looking for masks. She said they are out, and over 100 employees there had COVID19.

Do you suppose those are included in our stats?

I came across an Indystar article the other day that discussed some problems Indy was having. I was pretty shocked to learn that our first death, Roberta Shelton, had no contact tracing done. She had been to a bar, Moose Lodge and worked at a car rental place in the 5 days prior to being admitted to the hospital. The mayor of Beech Grove didn't even get a notice. Citing health care privacy restrictions, state and local health officials did not respond to questions about actions they took to notify people in close contact with Shelton.

The filters on breathing air compressors are substantial. I could do some research but I doubt a virus is going to get through.
Plus most places will pull the air from outside to avoid sucking in carbon monoxide from the equipment. That can't be filtered out and is of course pretty dam bad for you.
