Here in SE Georgia, evacuation is mandatory for everyone east of I95. In reality that means in Georgia, the 911 people can tell you to kiss off because they told you to get out. Too many people on the water's edge don't leave and then demand help.
As it now stands, St Simons Island is expected to have the causeway underwater later today and will have extensive flooding by tomorrow. This also applies to Jekyll Island, Sea Island, Blythe Island, etc. Lots of marsh property here and all of it is expected to be at least partially under by tomorrow.
I95 North is pretty decent with good flow, but GA 341, GA 82, I26, I15 and any road going west is now bumper to bumper. It is expected to take 8-10 hours to get out of range for anyone leaving. In other words, if you haven't left by now, it is too late!
All of the fast foods, grocery stores, etc, ( except Lowes and Home Depot ) have closed by Noon GA time. Lowes and Home Depot are trying to help everyone get ready with plywood etc. All the stores had food when they closed, but were just about out of the basics. Bread, meat, milk, etc. What was left was veggies and things like that. I was surprised to see that there was still beer around. Normally, it's all gone. Lastly, the Booze stores are still open and are doing a gang buster business.
It appears that people are taking it more seriously than the last time. A neighbor bought a generator, (Tractor Supply sold 200 in less than an hour), but I had to show him how to use it. What loads it could take and how much fuel he needed. He's now filling his spare car, empty cans and getting a syphon so he can empty a car if needed.
That's all for now.
