My question on the night vision goggles; would these be visible by the ones being watched? I would hate to become a beacon while trying to keep an eye out for other critters.

Yes, that set of NVG does have a rather large IR emitter to let it see in very low light. Most digital and cheaper Gen1 sets need that to work in "starlight" or less. Full or even half moon, no problem, less than that gets iffy.

Of course, if you have the ability to lock the built in IR illumination off, and have remote IR illumination that you can turn on and off, remotely, that works fine for you, and lets the other groups fire at a remote IR illuminator and not you...

Simple question, long answer...

Good Night Vision will come with Eye Cups that seal against your face; this is to keep the light from the tubes (that your eyes see) from leaking out onto your face, so, that OTHER people with Night Vision won't see the light bloom on your face.

If you wear glasses, then you fold the Eye Cups back, and let the rubber base rest up against your lenses; if you do this, smart users dial the gain WAY DOWN, so as little light from the tubes hits your face as possible. The end result is essentially "enhanced" human night-adjusted vision, with the option to crank-up the brightness if needed... My experience is, un-aided eyeballs won't see the dim glow unless you're close enough to know they're there anyway. A shroud/veil off the helmet and down onto the goggles, that covers the face, will go a LONG way towards making this whole paragraph moot.

If your opponents have Night Vision, it will be a bit of a dance to find out who sees who first... Avoid being the first one to make some kind of movement - daylight or night vision, our eyes are attracted to movement.

Also, your dogs will still know somebody is out there, regardless of what time it is.

I practice using my blue eyed night vision, and hiding in the showdows. If there is some moon or good starlight, I really don't need night vision. Do want some good infrared optics for brush and deep forest cover work.

Depending upon what kind of dye your clothing uses, "hiding in the shadows" may not buy you anything... With an IR illuminator, LOTS of clothing glows like your plugged-in. It's all, bush, bush, tree, fence, bush, tree, tree, NUCLEAR GLOWING MARSHAMLLOW MAN, bush, bush, stump, bush tree. Most black clothing is the worst. Far too many camo patterns do the same thing.

And... If the brush is thick, no optic (thermal or light amplification) will help you: if you can't see through it in the day, you won't see through it with the optics.

Was Bongino selling anything or encouraging you to use his "discount code"?

Why are these people suddenly jumping on the bandwagon. Follow the money.

Do I think there is a need to prep? Of course. But all of these "personalities" starting to encourage it make me leery of their motivations.

And the laundry detergent can make you glow in IR as well. Avoid anything with”brighter “ in it

Any clothes washed with most regular detergents. I use hunting laundry soap for my sterile clothes for night work. Any uv brighter detergent will ruin your clothes and gear. Buy a new set of bdu’s and mark them. Then never wash them with regular detergent.

If you are going to buy night vision go with at least gen 2+. It would surprise you to know how many people have night vision. And not the cheap crap. Get a good pvs-14 at least. You get what you pay for.

Make sure at least one in your tribe has thermal also. Some of the classes I do have teams with both and if the opfor doesn’t have both they usually end up dead. A lot of the students have dual tube night vision. Personally I prefer a single tube thermal or nvis so the other eye is adjusted to the natural night light in case of a failure. Then get a bump helmet to mount it. You can learn to work shadows to hide from night vision but with thermal it’s more difficult.

Anything with magnification should be avoided if you plan on walking and using it. Even 2x distorts and makes walking and navigating difficult. If you just plan on using at an lp/op then magnification is alright.

Avoid the cheap Chinese crap from Amazon because if things ever go bad it will just get you killed.

More important than anything else is get you gear on and go out and test it. Find good instructors that teach classes for like minded folks and go play in the woods on the weekend with your pez dispenser.

The NV illustrated does have an IR illuminator. I didn't see that it had a provision to turn it off. Check that out before buying.

Dan Bongino's show today he talked about the Obama movie but as a warning to prep for a cyber power outage. Link to listen.

Start with prayer, walk your property lines in prayer asking God for his protection and provisions.

Looking at holes in my preps, or that need improved.

Night Vision on Amazon
Wood burning camp stove I need a way to heat water for freeze dried foods.
5 pack Duct tape for black out curtains.
Water filter Berkey candles
Hand crank radio without short wave. With shortwave
We just bought this camp stove. It is wonderful but it is not for a backpack. we use it outside and would be great if you are using pack animals. Weights 58 lbs for $153.00. Very easy to assemble and fun to cook on.

It does. It is actually a monocular with a IR source on the other side., arrnaged in binocular fashion looked at from the front. That particular model says it has 8 levels of IR. It can be used without the source being activated, if course. There are a number of 'brands' that look very much alike. That one has a rechargable battery. Mine uses replaceable batteries.

I think I would prefer thermal. Do you have any brand/type recommendations?

Regarding the night vision, there is a difference between using it to go into combat (because of the IR) and walking down a path trying to not attract attention with a flashlight. For the low price, the one listed or like it would be useful.

Another item, because I would have a way of charging the batteries, this bike could be useful. It is pedal assist and could allow for quiet trips to locations withing 10 miles. If you have never rode on a pedal assist, they are amazing. Electric Bike
