i have a great ( when an indian friend in wi saw it, he approved: 'good ax', lol) hatchet and a fairly good hand saw in my BOB.

went out today to the pile of chopped wood i saw yesterday and most of it was gone already. !

but enough was left for one load. and i realized i can only do this once a day...

but definitely a small good saw would be best.

gonna be a daily chore for the next month.
LOL I live in MS and it's a daily chore here now. LOL

Well it's raining today so not today. Got maybe a 1/4 of a load left to split. Save it for a sunny day. Green live oak, be about 2-3 years before I use it.

I'm glad you got some.

Ukrainians are not going to give up.
I was quite interested in this guy's "invincibility points". Initial viewings created the impression of being some sort of very modern underground tunnel to be used as a shelter. Once I realized it was just an inflatable tent I quit watching, for there is nothing invincible about a tent.

Even if it did not have such a misleading label, a tent for refugees in a war zone is just a place I would not want my family or self to be. Give us something at least with sandbags up to and over the roof, as at least shrapnel will be stopped, and maybe some small arms fire. And their friends in Canada are giving them these death traps in cooperation with WHO. If the worst comes and our own country is another Ukraine, trust me, we would not go to some UN sponsored tent. Our very own wooden home is much, much safer.

Play Kunta Kinte after that and then Wounded Knee.
And (hopefully) in the future there will be flicks about the needless dying due to fake covid vaccines, which included all age groups, races and political factions alike.

Regardless if it's starving Ukrainian children, slaves taken from their homeland, Indians needlessly killed by soldiers or people's mandated deaths due to faulty vaccines - life is a bitch. And I do not mean this sarcastically. There will always be cruelty among humans. It will never end. And unfortunately, neither will the emotional stirring propaganda end.

My point is even though the Ukrainians are suffering, and I do have sympathy for them, but I cannot get all emotionally worked up like the propagandists want us to be. It's not going to cause me to call a congress critter and ask that more of our tax money be sent to the Ukraine to be laundered. I will not ask the congress critter to send them any more of our already depleting armament stockpiles. And I will not be a Russian hater the next time the left accuses Trump of being in their pocket in another Russia Russia Russia hoax.

Purchase a couple flat files and a medium size C-clamp to sharpen both your axe and
hand-saw If you still can. Also a bike or game trailer
I would also start to make as many trips as possible to pick up your firewood and most important of all, store it in 2 or 3 concealed locations.

I would add the US House - they control the $$$$. As with VN the "war" ended once the money flow stopped. The only problem is many of the so called Republicans are on the payroll of the MIC - not sure if the votes are there.
I'm not convinced at all that the Repubs have the guts to hold together on any issue, much less anything about money. The Freedom Caucus in the House seems to have some promise but I don't think there's enough of them to overcome the inevitable number of leakers on any given issue.

Here is the situation as it stands on Saturday, November 26:

Fighting

Russian shelling of the southern Ukrainian city of Kherson killed 15 civilians, officials said.
NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg said the Western military alliance would not back down on its support for Kyiv.
NATO forces took part in drills in northern Poland’s Suwalki Gap, a strip of land between Belarus and the Russian exclave of Kaliningrad, and of crucial significance to the security of the alliance’s eastern flank.
Russian President Vladimir Putin met the mothers of soldiers fighting in Ukraine, assuring those whose children had been killed that he and Russia’s elite “share this pain”.
Germany said it was discussing with allies Poland’s request that German Patriot air defence units be sent to Ukraine after NATO’s chief suggested the military alliance might not oppose such a move.
The war’s first winter will now test whether Ukraine can press on with its campaign to recapture territory, or whether Russia’s commanders can halt Kyiv’s momentum.
The head of Russian mercenary company Wagner, Yevgeny Prigozhin, said a former US Marine general and several British and Finnish fighters were operating for the armed group in Ukraine.

Economy/Aid

Russian air strikes in recent weeks have brought Ukraine’s energy infrastructure to its knees as winter approaches and temperatures near freezing, spurring fears of a health crisis and a further exodus.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said more than six million households in the country were still affected by power cuts.
Moscow insists it is targeting only military-linked infrastructure.
In a rare public spat involving Ukrainian leaders, Zelenskyy criticised the mayor of Kyiv, Vitali Klitschko, for doing what he said was “a poor job” setting up emergency shelters to help those without power and heat after Russian attacks.
Ukraine’s finance minister Serhiy Marchenko said more Western support is needed to help it meet growing reconstruction c
osts following the escalation of Russian attacks.
Britain’s foreign minister announced new aid for Ukraine, including ambulances and support for victims of sexual violence by Russian soldiers.

Oil

A meeting of European Union government representatives, scheduled for Friday evening to discuss a Group of Seven proposal to cap Russian seaborne oil prices, was cancelled.
EU governments were split on the level at which to cap Russian oil prices to curb Moscow’s ability to pay for its war in Ukraine without causing a global oil supply shock.

One note about a game trailer (which is a handy tool!). I put a battle belt on the pulling end of mine so I could be hands-free when using it. If it needs to be unassed, the quick-disconnect buckle on the belt gets me free of it. It not only keeps the stress off the arms but allows hand access to a weapon and keeping one's head on a swivel.

not quite so.

recall Napoleon's adage: " the moral is to the physical as three is to one"?

so you have 45 million ( yes, many people have left and are going to leave, but they are all women and children, but all men under 60 are still here, and pissed off) against 130 million. 1:3

and from all that all of us can see here, the russian mobik forces are inadequately trained, equipped, and supplied. and most resent being sent there.

while the ukr forces are fighting for their homes and land and families and culture and freedom. no comparison there.

and as for the russian economy going full steam, i don't see that. their commercial air fleet is on life support, their train network is running short of ball bearings (all used to come from europe... ?sweden), they cannot produce many replacement weapons without chips and spare parts from the west. their only real income is from oil and gas sales, and that is shrinking. their banking system is on the ropes. their ruble is not convertible. their factories are simply not running at full steam.

and they are literally dragging people off the streets and conscripting jailed criminals to fill out their ranks. meanwhile no one in Ukraine is going to jail for being against the war. EVERYONE is on board.

no. russia is going to lose, somehow, by spring.

after that, of course, is anyone's guess.

I will note that all of the major combatants in WWII did just that, including the United States. US criminal/soldiers had an easier time of it than did Soviets or Germans in the same predicament, but it wasn't a walk in the park. Additionally - and more importantly - both the Soviets and the Germans tried and convicted their own soldiers for often very trivial offenses. These men were then placed in penal battalions, which were given the most dangerous jobs.

The Russian and German convict-soldiers only had one way out of their dismal plight. If they really distinguished themselves in combat they might earn the "honor" of being transferred out of the penal battalion and back into a regular army unit. Relatively few men earned such a reward, as the majority of them were killed in combat.

A Belarusian opposition outlet citing sources reported that he had a heart attack. I expect a statement on the cause tomorrow.

Reading a bit about the late FM now. Even though he is a staunch ally of Lukashenko he seemed to have held some soft positions towards the west. When he died earlier today I also saw Russian sources calling him a relatively pro-western foreign minister https://nashaniva.com/304056

It was years since I last saw Vladimir Makei, but then he was very clear on his determination to prevent his country coming under the control of the Kremlin, and not shying away from describing Moscow’s policies as imperialistic. RIP

OK, in terms of actual voting, especially considering the well documented voter fraud, a majority did not vote for the current regime, thus "we" did not vote for what we are now getting.

But because no one has done a damn thing about it, because no one is standing up for a complete and honest accounting of the last election, in essence, we voted for it. This most recent election should have had the "R's" running on a campaign of wanting to investigate the 2020 election. Not a word. And those same RINO's were put back into office, here is where we voted for the 2020 election, but electing the spineless bastards that pretend Biden in President.

This thread's subject is the Ukraine war, so let's get back to it by saying if Trump were in office today the war never would have started, Russia may well be much friendlier to us, and above all the Ukrainian civilian citizens would not be freezing and starving their asses off in the dark today.
I totally agree with the last paragraph. Hell in this scenario China would be hurting
, not Europe, Ukraine, US and Russia. Come to think of it other than Klaus, and the middle east oil producing states the biggest winner is China reeling from 4 years of Trump policies and their insane Wuhan policies.

My original point stands Putin is no different than Brandon. The lefts hatred of Russia is simply a tool of convienence because for all intents and purposes we mirror each other in so many incredibly negative ways its scary.

Corrupt leadership at the top stealing the wealth of a nation to line their own fortunes. Jailing and threatening opposition media (to my knowledge we have yet to start killing opposition but its early years) using pliant media to spread only admins message.

This is why I am so hard on Putin. He is a tougher version of everything I despise in the current US leadership and no I do not believe Brandon is running the show any
more than I believe he won the last election.

REALLY??? Russia is going to send a rocket likely costing several hundred thousand dollars to hit a maternity ward? As opposed to military targets or more of the power grid - most likely this was a Ukrainian AA rocket that missed and came back to earth - recall Poland the other day.
This also points to two possibilities:
This was a deliberate misfire attempt
or
The supplied systems are not of the level of quality that the US and allies advertise...

Ukraine SITREP 1. Russian air/missile strikes continued to be far more limited yesterday and overnight focusing mostly on military targets in the south and southeast.

2. Russian VKS activity was far more limited yesterday too, likely associated with deteriorating weather and depleted munitions and maintenance parts. Russian logistics and resupplies across all areas continues to struggle.

3. Ukrainian airforce activity was also reduced yesterday, with just a handful of sorties reported, mostly Close Air Support.

4. Russian shelling was also reduced yesterday with it mostly more sporadic in all impacted areas, Sporadic intensive phases occurred in some southeast regions. The Sumy region in the north also witnessed some intensive phases.

5. The Ukrainian counteroffensives continue to make slower progress, with no significant changes reported yesterday.

Russian Naval activity in the Black Sea reduced slightly in the last 24hrs with rotations and resupplies underway.

6. Reduced air and ground activity is consistent with deteriorating weather as winter sets in. Frozen ground in the coming weeks may increase some heavier vehicle manoeuvres, in the mean time the artillery combat will continue in varying intensity associated with resupplies.

7. We still anticipate a further set of widespread Russian air/missile and drone strikes in the coming days as Russia resupplies its depleted missiles and reportedly readies a fresh batch of Iranian weapons.

I assure you, the Soviet Union was defeated in 1991.
As a refresher:
The Holodomor occurred in 1933 - 90 years ago.
The Nazis occurred in 1945 - 77 years ago.
Stalin died in 1953 - 69 years ago.
Putin born in 1952 - 70 years ago.
He entered the KGB in 1975 and resigned in 1991

Posting the same propaganda over and over is a waste of bandwidth - however, there is a remedy

I'm assuming that most of you are familiar with Col. Douglas MacGregor, the retired US Colonel who has become one of the noted commentators on the Ukraine War.

In this wide-ranging interview - which is well worth viewing - he briefly discussed the vaunted HIMARS system, which we've been supplying to the Ukrainians. One thing he said absolutely blew me away. He explained that the HIMARS system only required two men to operate, one of whom is the driver. He then elaborated and explain that the HIMARS driver has to learn and execute 1100 different tasks. 1100!

That is staggering and explains why the US has not been able to simply donate HIMARS to Ukraine to be operated by Ukrainian crews. I can't think of any task I've ever learned, including at commercial diving school, which required me to learn 1100 different things to execute. Have any of you?

The rest of MacGregor's interview covers the state of US, Ukrainian and Russian forces, US and European politics and some other weapons systems, It's a good listen.

It's inconvenient and uncomfortable for those caught in it, which is normal for war. But the attack is measured and moderate. No cities have been firebombed, there have been no poison gas attacks, no wholesale civilian slaughter. Russia has been remarkably restrained, given the stakes.

That's kind of like saying "Officer, yeah, I attacked that guy with a knife and a baseball bat, but at least I didn't shoot him with my shotgun or even my hand gun." While true, it isn't exactly a convincing argument.

I don't care to dwell in relativism.

There are absolutes in this world no matter how uncomfortable we are with that reality.

Putin is a mad despot, hell bent on creating his post-Communist legacy at the expense of Ukraine and at the expense of his own people.

Putin's last days on Earth are going to be relatively horrible.
