Westwood Standoff Ends After 8 Hours

The man standing off with police in Westwood since 10:30 a.m. was arrested without incident more than eight hours later when police approached the vehicle and pulled the man out. He is reportedly Joe Moshe, 56, of Westchester.
Police and Secret Service responded to alleged threats he made against the White House when he fled, prompting a pursuit north on the 405 freeway to the parking lot of the Federal Building at Wilshire and Veteran. Police surrounded his vehicle in the driveway where the standoff began, ending around 6:45 p.m. after a long day which included the closure of Veteran Avenue, the evacuation of a nearby apartment building, the partial lockdown of the Federal Building and a handful of tear gas attempts.
Moshe's mother said he was sick and depressed. Neighbors said he was harmless.
