When younger, it was getting stuck 1,500' up in a hangglider
and not able to get down, till long after dark, related that story
not long ago here on another TB thread about flying adventures.

When older in 2002 I'd met most of the top Venezuela military staff;
Commanding General's of the army, air force, navy, national guard
and military academy and civil ministers down there, including the
head of Oni-Dex passport office, and Chavez personal presidential
airbus pilot Major Diaz, who had all quit him in disgust & protest just
the week before in late 2002. That Major Diaz I'd later helped sneak
out of V into Miama and set him up for debrief by FBI cause he had
delivered $1M to Taliban after 9/11 on Chavez orders. We also broke
that news in V and made front page newspapers every where there,,,
,,,but I could only get some internet coverage of it up here in the states.

AIM Report: Joe McCarthy Was Right
Freeper Reports from Ground Zero Venezuela...
While I was stunned to see the lack of interest by our major media and our govt back then, I did get confirmation later about unseen agenda's behind the scenes leaving us unintentionally, or not, vulnerable. Love to see some wikileaks to & from our U.S. embassy in Venezuela from back then, as they were clearly, contrary to popular belief,
not supportive of Chavez being ousted then. (USA needed to assure uninterrupted fuel with upcoming Iraq invasion, was what we were later told privately by Congressional sources for hands-off regarding Chavez then.) Which was a terrible shame and lost opportunity, as popular sentiment in Venezuela then already had him packing his bags with plane waiting to take him to his prepared hacienda in Cuba. (I knew this for a fact because many still close to Chavez regime were giving hourly updates to top military who had recently resigned in protest.) If only Bush had come out and publicly added him to his short list of evil axis nations back then, he'd of been gone back in 2002, I have no doubt. Just international coverage and outrage of his support of Taliban after 9/11 would have done it, he was that close to leaving, one foot out the door. All our future problems with Chavez regime, and now Madura, would need not to of been.
Anyways, funniest thing was one day Major Diaz and I drove to the airport to see what security was looking like cause I needed to try and leave in a couple days and also at the same time the whole country was shutdown in a general strike protest against Chavez. While there he got me in to see the custom presidential airbus, though we did not board it. He just wanted to point out how long it took Chavez to walk up the many steps and to point out he'd do so alone and at the top he'd usually stop to look and wave and his point was he's quite exposed up there. Then the major points out the apts off to the right where he said any above the fourth floor provide a clear shot and then he pointed out behind us the grassy high area next to the highway and what a good clear shot that'd be, too.
Yes, a 'grassy knoll'. I just shook my head, said I wasn't that guy, but would pass it on if I met him.
Those were heady days, Chavez really had one foot out the door and we were helping the new admin that would be to become. Because all these top officials had quit him, we were getting the goods
with documentation of many Chavez doings at the time, that I can share this much here: his bringing in Russian arms and Libyan Katushka missiles & technicians, funneling Middle Easterners through their Oni-Dex citizen registration process before issuing them Venezuelan passports on there way to North America, depositing 4.5 billion $'s with China who was doing more business with them now than the rest of South & Central America combined, Venezuelan govt envoys visiting, consorting & praising N Korea, Chavez first head of state to visit Iraq in supporting Saddam Hussein after first Iraq war, then receiving secret C-130 shipments from Iraq (that SH wanted out of Iraq & Chavez wanted in V.) right before last Iraq war. Chavez trading arms for narcotics with Colombian narcoterrorists FARC/ELN. And, of course, Castro was his mentor and Chavez was Cuba's essential oil source. And, one of Castro's bio-weapons facility with technicians was shipped to Venezuela. Oh, yeah, did I also mention Chavez had been for years pushing France to release 'Carlos the Jackal', brother of Raphael Ramirez, Chavez's former Minister of Energy & Mines and current President of PDVSA, to Venezuela to 'serve out' his prison term there.
Never boring...
