I have NG and electric. Been super lucky to not have lost it at all.
You need almost a gallon a day for yourself. Do you have gas at least?
I learned that a number of commercial buildings have a spigot on the outside due to building codes, but they use a special handle to turn on.So I went out and about. I happened to have a spare carboy that i wanted to fill (prepping and all), so I loaded the pups in the car and headed out into the “Great White South”. Naturally, my little town was out of the question WRT water, so I headed to the next town over. First tried Wally’s: closed. Went to my doc’s clinic: closed. Went to the FIRE DEPARTMENT: NO WATER FOR THE PUBLIC. At this point I was just driving around a bit sightseeing. There was a Wendy’s nearby, and I thought I’d grab a bowl of their chili. The drive-thru line wound completely around the building!
Thus, beaten, I just came home. But all this confirmed what all of us already knew: in the event of an emergency, we are completely on our own.
I swear someone here posted a picture of it, but that is a good thing to have if you live in a suburban / city area. It could get you water when none is normally available.
Yep that was it. I agree, but it could be a lifesaver. That is why it was mentioned.Do not use something this unless it is literally a life or death emergency. This is highly illegal in some places.

You ever tried to do that? It’s not a trivial or easy exercise.

Hopefully other states take a lesson here. The State Government is going to have to answer some really hard questions when it comes to the 19 BILLION they've spent on subsidized alternative power over the last five years while ignoring the grid and legacy systems.
PLEEZE don’t anyone melt snow for drinking water! I listened to a broadcaster warn against doing that because the snow would have so many contaminants in it.....the air has so many pollutants. Think about just the chemtrails from airplanes. There are minute aluminum particles spewed from them and who knows what else they contain.
Then, there are industrial contaminants and particles from auto emission, just for starters.
I also wouldn’t give a pet melted snow, either, for those same reasons.
I have to question whether a Berkey would remove a lot of chemical poisons.
They have large storage tanks here in the desert. Only protected by a padlocked fence. Easily accessible in an emergency. And the tool for opening the hydrants is readily available for purchase. Just saying.Yep that was it. I agree, but it could be a lifesaver. That is why it was mentioned.
No. I haven’t drained it. If I do, I’ll shut it off first.
Amazing in my 73 years I have never caught snow on fire.Mz Kitty, that vid gave you an incomplete understanding. Snow DOES BURN. Have to be EXCEEDINGLY CAREFUL in melting it for the first inch or so of WATER in the pan.
By siphon down, you mean the water gets sucked back into the city pipes out of the heater?
Okay. I went out and turned it off. It was running. I hope it wasn’t damaged. Gas heater.
Mill, wouldn't his check valve on the incoming line cover that issue...always assuming he has one of them?

ORDERED!WaterBOB Bathtub Storage Emergency Drinking Water Container
Our local volunteer fire department is offering non potable water to anyone. They just need to bring their own containers. For 2 days now, they drove through the area with their lights on and over the loud speaker telling people to come out and get water if they need it.I have about 5 days of potable water. That’s a ridiculously tiny amount compared to what I once had.
It won’t get above freezing until tomorrow afternoon.
And it’s snowing again. 2” expected in the next few hours.
Also no trash pickup this week, and no mail delivery this week at all.
