how is the edema? given that we are, first and foremost a prepper site, and you're our fearless leader....
..well, you see where this is going, right? :jstr:
Holy cow. Must slow down and comprehend what is written. Brain translated that as a question about his *enema*. Have you ever experienced an ice water enema? Yikes!

This topic started out with frozen water. That's what drove my mind in that direction.

..probably the only one who didn't know this but...

Carboy
Laboratory glassware

A carboy, also known as a demijohn, is a rigid container with a typical capacity of 1 to 16 US gallons. Carboys are primarily used for transporting liquids, often water or chemicals. They are also used for in-home fermentation of beverages, often beer or wine. Wikipedia

Oh boy, first belly laugh of the day, but I imagine it will prove the best, even when the clock has finished the day's
tick-tick-ticks

Sorry to hear that Dennis that's worse than loosing power.

A suggestion if you don't already know it. Don't use your drinking water in your toilet. Use the snow and ice in a melted form - water to flush. 'Course to conserve even further if your back yard is fenced in, you can do No. 1 outside.

That is what we are doing, snow in the bathtub

No water since early Monday!

ETA. just got a boil water notice which I thought was ironic since there is no water to boil

Called the fire department. They’re supposedly getting a water truck in late today. More importantly, they knew the real cause of the water outage. Seems one leg of the 480 volt feed to the pumping station failed. They’ve called the power folks for assistance but so far no joy.

I only run out of water in the summer when the subdivision well goes down. So I have water stored for that winter is no problem right now there is over 2ft of snow in the yard. When i lived in the mountains the only way we had water was to melt snow and filter it. Coffee filters work great for filtering water to get the big pieces of crud out.

I'm sorry to hear that, Dennis. I certainly hear you on age...I can't do all that I could even 20 years ago. I wish we were closer, and I'd bring you some water. We have been out of power for days (except the brief "rolling") but have firewood, water (community well with backup, plus plenty in the pantry) and food. It's snowing here, too.

I'm glad the edema is almost gone. I stepped on the scale for the first time in a week, and I've lost 3 lbs (not complaining!). Probably some water.

They're saying only a couple more days. The snow is light and fluffy and tomorrow should be 45 degrees, so maybe so!

In extreme water shortage, you do your business outside in a private area.

I have a foldable toilet seat, dump in a bag or on the ground, take care of it later.

If you got a campground not too far away do your #2 there.

Friend of mine who is a retired civil engineer winters in near Austin. In a conversation with him about a week ago he said they had no power and no water. Municipal pipes had frozen and it was going to be a long time and many $ before things ere set right.

Don’t let the Piss Ants get you down…
Son called about 10:00. They are in San Antonio, NW area. Just got power on about 8:00 AM. Power has been out since Monday straight through, no "rolling blackout".

They also have the water boil advisory, so with a totally electric home, they are showering, doing laundry, boiling water, preparing some additional food to heat on the grill if necessary and of course, enjoying having a heated house for the time being.

I've limited my comments to Junior as there are some really simple things that he SHOULD have had staged and ready in the event of some crisis. He didn't and then got caught in the scramble and ended up with nowhere near what he needed.

We've really been fortunate, power stayed on, internet has been more off than on and only the washer hose lines froze which I got defrosted and running. We had to take in the youngest and her boyfriend and two dogs for two days. They got power last night and went home.

The State Government is going to have to answer some really hard questions when it comes to the 19 BILLION they've spent on subsidized alternative power over the last five years while ignoring the grid and legacy systems.

I was under the impression that those green power subsidies were being paid with federal dollars, not state. Sorta' like the EV tax credits.
I don't think the state has any reason to subsidize generation, of any flavor.

The state government does not offer subsidies to wind or solar generation.

The Feds are more than happy to shovel out the cash though.

I hate to hear about water problems. This won't help now but good little future plan for more than one reason. I freeze 2litre bottles or gallon juice{not milk} jugs of water. Stick them all over in the freezer. If the power goes out holds food longer or you can thaw to use in emergencies. I do have a 2000 gallon tank hooked to my gutter but always have to drain for a few months in winter. For drinking or cooking have to filter. When I bought here didn't have water we hauled 450 gallons at a time from a spring down the road. Now I have my own spring. I know about water problems.

Do you have a neighbor with a swimming pool?
If so ask them if you may please have a cup...

***Swimming pool water is NOT something you really want to
drink. It is heavy on dissolved solids (minerals i.e. salts, calcium...).
Hard on kidneys

I couldn’t afford my Wisconsin house down here. The property taxes would be triple what I paid up there.

No water then I switch to sawdust toilet for duration. Stored water is too precious to dump down the toilet. If you must flush, save water you've used for washing yourself or dishes or whatever to use for flushing. Use a basin or dishpan and then pour used water into bucket and when full enough use to flush.

For those unused to cold weather, be prepared to shut off your main into the house when the water comes back on because you may have pipes that froze and cracked which can result in major damage if not shut off promptly.

Personally while I hate being without running water I hate even more when sewer stops. Its much easier to deal with bringing in clean water than getting rid of sewage.

Whenever I get a boil order, I fill my water bath canner, bring to a boil for the proper length of time, turnoff and cover. I then have enough water for a couple days. It takes quite awhile to cool but that's okay because I always have two Britta pitchers and a 2 quart tea kettle full on the counter/stove. Of course, those with all electric homes have no way to boil anything which is where your stored water comes in and why I hate electric stoves.

So I went out and about. I happened to have a spare carboy that i wanted to fill (prepping and all), so I loaded the pups in the car and headed out into the “Great White South”. Naturally, my little town was out of the question WRT water, so I headed to the next town over. First tried Wally’s: closed. Went to my doc’s clinic: closed. Went to the FIRE DEPARTMENT: NO WATER FOR THE PUBLIC. At this point I was just driving around a bit sightseeing. There was a Wendy’s nearby, and I thought I’d grab a bowl of their chili. The drive-thru line wound completely around the building!

Thus, beaten, I just came home. But all this confirmed what all of us already knew: in the event of an emergency, we are completely on our own.

Well, at least this spring you had flour. Now, you'll get more water, have flour and....next spring should be exciting to see what you come up with. This could become an annual tradition on the board. :D
