A belated Happy Anniversary, SouthernBreeze & CaryC!!
I'm having to fight the deer for sweet potato leaves to eat! They are going down the row of raised bed boxes and neatly nipping the leaves off right where they join the stem, and about 1/4 of the way in to the box. First box, leaves gone. Next day, second box, leaves gone. Day after that, half the leaves gone in the third box, this morning, they've finished off the third and started on the fourth one. Who knew deer were OCD? I guess I should just be happy that they are only nipping off the leaves closest to the edge of the boxes and leaving me the ones on the far side
I guess being able to see the soil in the beds will make the actual sweet potatoes easier to harvest.
I think my daughter is seeing the light re: name brand clothes for the boys vs generic. In her defense, she does get most of the name brand stuff second hand. But she sent me a photo and had me pick up 2 pair of generic black 'sports pants' (aka: sweat pants) for older grandson on my way home from work; and there were two pair of generic jeans on the table when I brought them in.
Younger grandson had to take treats to school the next day so I loaded him in the van and we went to the Evil Empire. Came home with Cocoa Rice Krispies, butter, marshmallows and sprinkles. I ended up with 2 little girls helping as well, so it was a good thing I'd bought the three pack of disposable pans instead of two
Daughter had to go to a parent teacher meeting so asked me to move my car; told her to just take it and I'd stay with the kids so she didn't need to take any of them with her or drop them at their homes. We had the kitchen all cleaned up by the time she got home, dishwasher loaded, and things picked up.
I didn't feel much like cooking last night though, so the shrimp went in the freezer until this morning. While I was in the freezer, I found a bag of mixed potatoes, zucchini, carrots and onions, zinged them up a bit with some olive oil, 'Everything Bagel' seasoning, and some Garlic and Herb seasoning. Chunked up some smoked sausage and threw that in, tossed it in a pan and put it in the oven to cook. Threw together some biscuits from the baking mix, then peeled and sliced an apple and put it in a small skillet with some butter and brown sugar and added it to the oven along with the biscuits.
I need to get started on the gumbo... maybe after another cup of coffee
Take care all; have a great weekend!
