It is cool this morning. It was 42* when I got up. This week we have several things that need doing. My job needs to be done. There is fire wood to split. There is also dirt work at my in-laws to do. Tomorrow is my day with the grandboys. I get one at 8:00 in the morning. Then drop him off at 1:00 when his mother gets off. Then I get the other at 1:20 or so and have him till at least 11:15 p.m. It is a long day. Fun but long.

We bought a Turkey for the holidays. We are supposed to go to Northwest AR to my niece's for Thanksgiving. But I have seen a year or two where the weather would make that not possible. In 1994 we had an ice storm around Thanksgiving. So the Turkey is here if we need to cook here instead.

Two of our packages of needed items arrived early. The one I ordered from Walmart arrived five days early. That was a nice surprise.

Hubby had to go to the tire shop his old buddy runs. We had some old tires we wanted out of the barn. Hubby's friend can sell part of them. He offered to split the money with hubby, but hubby told him that he just wanted them out of his way. Hubby dropped me at my favorite resale shop to browse while he went to the tire shop. I found a few things. 2 tops for me and 2 cotton pants for the oldest grandson. I bought 2 books that look interesting. One is a disaster novel. I haven't read a good gloom and doom book in awhile.

Yesterday I brought in most of my plants that i want to keep over winter. They look so pretty in the house. I hope i can keep them alive.

Thank You, Sherree!! I wasn't too much behind in spite of having to stop on my way home :) I appreciate you getting the thread started this week!

Got in to work last night - full staff but not full census; that was a surprise. Even CCU wasn't full! Later in the shift I heard that we may even start allowing non-emergent surgeries that require an inpatient stay - like knee replacements, etc...

Then I read the gazillion e-mails that piled up while I was on vacation.... There was one from the President (of the hospital) saying that all the vaccinated employees were getting a $500 bonus next week and another one in December! And if the great unwashed - pardon me, the non-vaxxed wanted to get in on the second $500 bonus in December, they needed to start their vaccine program by tomorrow! (Phrasing and Punctuation mine, not his lol!) I'm sure that they were smart enough to run it by legal first... Given that I can make that much in one 8 hour overtime shift; they can keep their poison, but I'm guessing that they'll try to bump our insurance next... Or find a non-vax reason to fire us. Maybe it's time for me to get my knees replaced....

I was sort of hoping for a break this weekend. I can see that is not in the cards ;)

I came home last night to a new generator...as a replacement for our curent one. Higher output, lower fuel consumption. So swapping that out is job one today. Next will be acquiring maintenance items for it...plugs, filters, etc. Prepping the old genny for storage is next...and yes, I made sure it runs and puts out power first, lol.
Wife is out getting more "stuff" to put in the freezer since there is more capacity. It seems she is also getting more concerned with the course things are going. I can't say that I blame her.

The greenhouse has been started! Hooray! The weather perfect for being outside even though it was 43 this morning!

It was 43 here this morning, too. Brrr.....Had to turn on our propane heater for a bit to knock the chill out.

I would love to have a greenhouse. I'm jealous of everyone that has one. It would have to be a quite sturdy structure, because of all the tree limbs that would wind up falling down on it. We have 8 huge oak trees in our yard and one pecan tree. Tree limbs are always falling on the roof of the house every time a gusty wind comes through. So far, nothing big enough to do damage, but a plastic greenhouse might be different. I can't figure out a way to build one that is feasable without pouring a large amount of money into it.

So I now have my in home fire fighting preps:
Fire Extinguisher - in date
Welding blanket
Heavy leather welding gloves

Will it put out a whole house fire? No. But for a small fire I can handle hopefully these will suffice. The welding gloves were like $14.00 USD at a local hardware store. DH bought the heavy duty welding blanket a year or so back for about $25 bucks US. Today they are on Amazon listed from $43 to $87.

I just finished cleaning all the windows on the inside, and closed up all the mini blinds. I left the curtains open over them, since it hasn't really turned cold, yet. I, at least, wanted to get the windows all cleaned. I may decide to take down all the curtains, and wash them, before I close them up. I usually do that it the spring to get all the smoke smell out of them, after using the wood heater and stove all winter.

Late yesterday afternoon, I did a small inventory of a few items in storage, before making out my bi-monthly grocery run, Wednesday. I added some items that I want to try, and some things I thought I could use more of. All the talk about yellow rice on "main", I realized that I was very low on that, plus, I want to try some of the other flavors that were mentioned. I'm always looking to add variety to my storage. When we try something new, and like it, I stock up on it.

Still waiting on the AZO products that Cary ordered. He still has 3 days worth of his antibiotics to take. He can't tell if they are working or not, since he has had no symptoms.

HaHa.....funny .....you know how many people with a greenhouse would love to have a pecan tree??......

Sherree... look into cattle panel greenhouses... not *super* sturdy, but inexpensive enough to easily replace or repair if a branch lands on it..

I built a rabbit barn out of cattle panels. My daughter and I raised a lot of rabbits in that barn. It worked really well. Ice storms are hard on it though. Snow can be raked off before it gets too heavy, but ice is impossible. I would like to build another and use some of our cedar to make a support down the middle. I think that would work well.

My DH has had it with my food prepping. He made me promise to stop buying food. He looked at me like I had lost my mind when the case of hard red winter wheat was delivered. Safe to say that we are in good shape in our pantry and can slack off for awhile. Its hard though, I guess I'm compulsive about it.

haha just wait til he wants something and can't get it.

God is good all the time

We almost finished the greenhouse. Just need to put the panels on now. Hubby finally had the power installed for his welder in the garage. I added a flat of chicken broth to the collection. Did some repairs on one of my old wooden garden beds. Also added horse manure to the bed so it will be ready for spring. I am kicking myself in the teeth for not getting my fall and winter crops planted. Hopefully I have enough garden ready for the really bad stuff coming. I'm pretty sure I have enough jars. I also got my wood stove out, cleaned and oiled, and hopefully I can now get hubby toinstall it finally. He is actually thinking about it now with everything happening in the world. Comes to a point where one just can't hide from this stuff.

Thanks, Summerthyme! This is the type we were thinking of that would be sturdy enough for us.

Premium Quality Large Multi Climate Handcrafted Greenhouse Kit (roostandroot.com)

That's more money than we want to spend right now.

Here is a thread we have on this site from a member who built a hoop house. And naturally several people posted about theirs too.

We built one of these in 2017 and it has been the answer for our needs! I use it almost the entire year.

Wow! Girl, it's good to have you back! :hugs:

Yeah, the one like I posted is the one we want. It's too expensive right now, but Cary could probably buy the materials, and build it himself a bit cheaper, maybe. I'm not taking it off my wish list.

Yesterday we were doing my contract job of picking up trash. Hubby picked up something that had fire ants in it. He did not know they were on his arm till they all bit in unison. He has at least 30 bites on his fore arm. We headed straight to the pharmacy for Benadryl. The few minutes it took to get there he was feeling dizzy and hot. 2 pills and he was better in a few minutes. I also bought Benadryl cream and a steroidal cream. After we sat in the pharmacy parking lot for bit, we went and got a burger. He was feeling fine after eating and setting an hour or more. I am just glad we were at one of our areas in town. Other areas are are not close to a pharmacy. We are carrying the Benadryl in hubby's bag now. We knew he was mildly allergic to honey bees. We had to use it once before when he got several stings. I work the bees alone since then.

My boss told me they couldn't put up any new signs because they can't get the plastic to make them right now.

I needed to repair a pair on grandsons pants. They had a small hole near the back pocket. I swear the eye of all my needles have shrunk! I could not thread my needle nor could I find my needle threader. I dug out my self threading needles and used one of them to get the repair done. I have to pick up some needle threader. Just one of the perks of getting old I guess.

I have a new list started of things we will be getting now. I have lots of sewing stuff I have bought at the auction for just a few dollars. I love buying a box that is just basically a grab bag. I keep what I want and donate the rest. I keep all the thread and usually have any color I need.

We got Cary's CT Scan done, yesterday. We won't know the results for a day or two.

While we were in big town, we went ahead and celebrated our 45th wedding anniversary which is the 22nd. We ate Chinese, since it's been so long, since we did that. Cary had a nice surprise for me, too. I have been wanting a new wedding ring for a couple of years now. I put away all my diamond and gem set rings, along with my wedding set. I didn't want to look too flashy out in public for OPSec reasons. So, he took me to Kay's, and bought me a simple, small, gold wedding band. Just what I have been wanting, after putting all my other rings away! They had to order it to get it sized, and it won't be in, until Nov. 18!!!!! I guess jewelry is even slow in shipping!

After 45 years, he's still my Sweetheart! :spns:

We'll be heading out, later today, to do grocery shopping.

Ugh, I just feel worn out! The grandkids have all been sick with one thing or another all month, especially little granddaughter. It’s better for her to be with DH and I since she can rest more here and not infect her cousins on the days she’s suppose to be at her other grandparents. Strep has hit all 3 kids, youngest grandson came down with it yesterday. Hopefully they will all get well and stay well soon.

With all the above going on I realized I needed to stock up on more OTC meds especially for the grands. 3 bottles each of liquid Tylenol and Motrin for the baby, 2 bottles of liquid Benadryl and 3 boxes of Benadryl in pill form have been added to the pantry. Oldest grandson can use adult items and youngest grandson is pretty much there. Also added some generic Tylenol PM, melatonin, 2 bottles of generic tums and 4 bottles of rubbing alcohol.

LOL, after reading about the yellow rice on Main, I ordered some from Walmart, I’m looking forward to trying it.

DH had me order some batteries from Sam’s today that he needs for his game camera’s. I’ve been looking at coffee makers off and on the past week and decided to go ahead and order one, since I’m thinking ours is on its way out! We make coffee at least twice a day. We have two Corning Ware pots for the stovetop but we do like the convenience of the electric coffee makers, plus the kind we use you can make a whole pot or one cup or anywhere in between.

Don't have to go to the stores too often, but when I do I pick up a few things. The other day at Winn Dixie it was canned proteins: 2 cans of Dinty Moore stew, 2 cans of chicken and 2 cans of soup, all on sale. Today when I went to Walgreens to pick up some meds, it was a small bottle of palmolive (.49 cents), 3 bottles of laundry detergent (worked out to 2.50 each), and 2 9pks of toilet paper. Also got $6 toward my reward points for my next purchase.

We got some new parts for our 32 year old Lopi stove. It is a great stove. Worth every penny we paid for it. We also split another Rick of wood and stacked it in the shed.

Hubby's ant bites are healing well. They looked nasty the 2nd day. I put medication on them and bandaged it. They are mostly dry now, but still itch at times. We replaced the dressings that we used up.

Hubby's sister had a pile of material of his moms for me to go through. She got out what she wanted. I got a few pieces, including a couple I started to leave. But I wondered if I might need to make clothes for the boys in the future. The rest I will take to donate. We are not making much headway on the house.

Today I hope to work on one of our ponds while the water is low. It was neglected by the previous 2 owners. This one has some fish in it so I would like to keep it in good shape. We have 2 more that need work too. One needs the side repaired. It is dry at the moment. Has been for years. The owners cut a hole in the levee years ago. We hope to repair it. Then the third has a leak. I am not sure how to approach that one. If we had cows or hogs we could feed hay on the leaky area and the animals work it in and hopefully seal it. But we have no animals.

We were at Ace hardware and I always check the canning section. No lids. But they has 6 packs of Kilner canning jars. I about fainted when I saw the price........$24.95 for 6 jars. We went to Atwoods after Ace and they had them too. The same jars were priced $10.99-14.99 there. They had some cute jars, but the price!

We also stopped at our local Harps. Hubby showed me a pack of ribeyes. $19.98 a pound. He put it back after taking a picture to send his brother. The package of 2 steaks was $60 and change. I noticed a definite increase in the price of a lot of things.

I almost forgot. We bought a 40 pound box of sweet potatoes.

A belated Happy Anniversary, SouthernBreeze & CaryC!!

I'm having to fight the deer for sweet potato leaves to eat! They are going down the row of raised bed boxes and neatly nipping the leaves off right where they join the stem, and about 1/4 of the way in to the box. First box, leaves gone. Next day, second box, leaves gone. Day after that, half the leaves gone in the third box, this morning, they've finished off the third and started on the fourth one. Who knew deer were OCD? I guess I should just be happy that they are only nipping off the leaves closest to the edge of the boxes and leaving me the ones on the far side  I guess being able to see the soil in the beds will make the actual sweet potatoes easier to harvest.

I think my daughter is seeing the light re: name brand clothes for the boys vs generic. In her defense, she does get most of the name brand stuff second hand. But she sent me a photo and had me pick up 2 pair of generic black 'sports pants' (aka: sweat pants) for older grandson on my way home from work; and there were two pair of generic jeans on the table when I brought them in.

Younger grandson had to take treats to school the next day so I loaded him in the van and we went to the Evil Empire. Came home with Cocoa Rice Krispies, butter, marshmallows and sprinkles. I ended up with 2 little girls helping as well, so it was a good thing I'd bought the three pack of disposable pans instead of two  Daughter had to go to a parent teacher meeting so asked me to move my car; told her to just take it and I'd stay with the kids so she didn't need to take any of them with her or drop them at their homes. We had the kitchen all cleaned up by the time she got home, dishwasher loaded, and things picked up.

I didn't feel much like cooking last night though, so the shrimp went in the freezer until this morning. While I was in the freezer, I found a bag of mixed potatoes, zucchini, carrots and onions, zinged them up a bit with some olive oil, 'Everything Bagel' seasoning, and some Garlic and Herb seasoning. Chunked up some smoked sausage and threw that in, tossed it in a pan and put it in the oven to cook. Threw together some biscuits from the baking mix, then peeled and sliced an apple and put it in a small skillet with some butter and brown sugar and added it to the oven along with the biscuits.

I need to get started on the gumbo... maybe after another cup of coffee

Take care all; have a great weekend!
