In our cleaning up and organizing the pantry room and also the pantry closet, DH is moving all the jar'd goods (dehydrated and vacuum sealed) out to the cabin and the she shed. I'll have to organized them later.

I grabbed a jar that has a date in 2020 of dehydrated veggies to see how it will do in soup (main reason I dehydrated it). i've got a package of Bear Creek Vegetable beef stoup to try with it. I have a lot of Bear Creek soup stored and have yet to try it. I'll give an update tomorrow.

I went to Bed Bath and Beyond today to spend a Christmas gift card. Mainly went to get a new pillow. Didn't realize that some pillows sell for almost $150! Did not get one of those :) After Christmas clearance was 70% off and I got four more dish towels and a total of six 6 inch pillar candles (unscented, though in different colors). The candles were $2.40 each and the two packs of towels were $2.40 each as well. Didn't think that was a bad price.

Have been wanted to add protein powder to the preps for a while and Publix had a type I have used before on sale BOGO this week. So after having my eye exam yesterday (and ordering new glasses, even though the prescription hasn't changed in years), I stopped in Publix and bought two big containers. Finally marked that off the list.

It's not just Florida hospitals, it's hospitals in general. They've lost staff to burnout, vax mandates, and it's showing. A lot of hospitals are overwhelmed with flu, rsv, and COVID right now. I'm sorry your parents had to experience this.
A decade ago, my in-laws use to say that the hospitals in Florida were so bad because they were sized based on the average population in Florida, but in the winter months the snow birds doubled the population. The hospitals couldn't deal with the large increase in the senior population. My fil spent quite a bit of time in the hospital in Florida in the winter and he was often in a bed in the hallway.
I'm sure it has only gotten worse since covid.

I got the new garden cleaned off. Hubby wants to disc it. I put some plum seed that I had saved in some raised beds. I know some were heirloom plums. I hope to get a few trees from them. I also started some lettuce and cabbage in some cold frames.

We had to go to town yesterday. So we ran several errands. One stop was to look at the granite store for counter tops. Our house is just over 30 years old. Things are needing a face lift. Next week they are coming to measure and then we can get a price. I would not be unhappy with formica again, but hubby wants granite. I know it would be beautiful, but I don't know much about it.

I did find 3 small bottles of Bulls Eye BBQ sauce at our Harps store. I bought all 3 since I had been looking for a couple of weeks or more. Hubby is on a pulled pork kick, which is not a bad thing. He cooks the meat and I just do the sides. We also freeze in meal sized portions for an easy meal.

I started on my tax paperwork. My new year resolution is to do better on keeping up on my book work and to walk more.

I have been thinking about getting turkeys. Surprisingly, hubby is not against the idea. I haven't decided yet. I am not sure my energy level is up to another project. I would buy eggs to hatch instead of buying poults. It would involve building another shelter and pen, even if they free range a lot. Lots to consider

Our wood frame house was built back in 1930. When we bought it, it had to be gutted of all kitchen cabinets. I had a hard time deciding if I wanted granite counter tops or ceramic tile. I chose ceramic tile. It goes very nice with the ceramic tile we had laid on the floors throughout the house. I think granite is really nice, too.

Cary has been on a pulled pork BBQ binge, too. I made the BBQ and had it on buns with cole slaw and chips last night. It was leftovers from the night before.

My tooth is somewhat better this morning, but I'm going to call my dentist office back tomorrow to see if they can work me in one day next week. I really don't want to drag this out until February. I'm afraid to wait much longer, because of infection possibly setting in. I'm already getting a bad earache from it, and a swollen gland just under my ear. I can't get an antibiotic without seeing him first. If push comes to shove, I'll call my PCP to try and get one from him, or go to a "walk in" medical clinic.

Cary and I, both, have several gift cards to shop with, today. We'll shop with those, after we go to my PCP's office to get my insurance changed over. DS and DDIL want to meet us at OutBack for our dinner out, tonight. We'll probably be dragging by the time we get back home. If I can fit it in, and I'm not too exhausted, I'm shopping for new dress clothes for myself, too. I'm taking pain meds with me in case my tooth starts acting up, again.

Cary ordered us another 3 #10 cans of cheese powder this morning for long term storage. I thought I had more than what I have, so will fill that gap. I like Augason Farms brand.

I ordered a big bag of dog food, along with a couple of other things, including two boxes of crackers. The dog food came in a big box and also inside the box was the two boxes of crackers, which were partially crushed.

I also ordered something from amazon before Christmas that was lost in transit and they make it complicated to get a refund.

I don't know if your existing medical conditions affect the antibiotics you can take? I've used the amoxicillin from fishmoxflex, with similar guidelines for weekend emergencies.

Yes, I can take Amoxicillin. I just don't happen to have any on hand right now. I don't store antibiotics, because Cary is allergic to most of them, and I hardly ever need them.

If you've got swollen glands, you've *already * got an abscess going on. Got antibiotics!

I'll be leaving in a few minutes on my way to my PCP office. I'll see if he'll give me a script for the antibiotics. I can't see my dentist, until next week at the earliest. My PCP has to call me in 2 other scripts, today, so maybe, he'll add amox to the list.

I'm working on my soup. I've added venison, some of my dehydrated vegetables, corn, diced potatoes and diced tomatoes. Its still simmering, but the broth flavor is good.

So the soup is done and its really thick with ingredients, DH noticed a green leaf and said what's that and I said i don't know, eat it anyway. So tomorrow I will cook the other pound of venison and add more liquid cause its so think. It does have a good flavor and the vegetables in the Bear Creek are tasty. some how though, I like my own but this is helpful in a hurry.

Hubby made a soup last night that will feed us affordably. Cabbage (given to us) with venison (given to us) with a pound of hamburger, celery and carrots (we already had), tomatoes (from the garden and frozen), some spinach (growing in garage) and some onion. It was yummy!

I couldn't get a script from my PCP for an antibiotic, yesterday, without him seeing me. They couldn't work me in. I came home, after our adventure in big town, and began rinsing my mouth out with warm salt water and soaking a cotton ball with clove essential oil and putting in on the affected tooth. It's lots better this morning, without any pain at all, and the swollen lymph gland is gone. I've also read online that I can make a mouth rinse with tea tree essential oil or use peroxide as a straight rinse. I have plenty of everything I need. I'll continue to do all of it, until I can get in to see my dentist.

We had a great time with DS and DDIL last night. Everyone was stuffed when we got through eating. We used up all of our gift cards and came home exhausted. We were very disappointed with Barns and Nobel. It has been a while, since we've been there, and they had made a lot of changes. It's gone "woke", and everything in the store was geared towards "wokeism". Is that a word, LOL? They didn't have the books Cary was looking for, so we'll be ordering all of our books online from now on.

Woke up to thunder boomers going on overhead this morning. A loud clap of thunder woke me up suddenly, and I almost jumped straight up out of the bed, LOL. Supposed to be 74, today, and we're under a tornado watch, until 1pm. Only 43 for our high, tomorrow.

SB, I haven't been in a Barnes and Noble in years and it use to be my favorite place to go. I did go to one in the big town nearest me since I moved here 12 years ago. Since I'd not been in one in a long time it felt surreal. I bought a cup of coffee and a snack. The books all seemed to be too expensive if I could even find something that I like. I've been ordering on line for years and years. I prefer a used book store.

Last night at church during the water conversation, a young friend said she should get a wash board, and I laughed. She said you would have one, I still have the one that my mother washed my diapers on, although it did get rusty sitting in Katrina flood waters. Not one person in that group said they had a rain barrel.

Everything inside, including all the book choices, Barnes and Nobel were geared towards young adults and teenagers. We were shocked. The history section, which Cary loves, was nothing but Obama this and Obama that. No Civil War history at all. Nothing. I looked for books by my favorite author, and not a single one of her books were in the store. They sure had a lot of tarot cards and witchcraft books throughout the store, though.

I have 2 washboards and 2 large wash tubs. One washboard is for small delicate items, and the other is for heavy duty rubbing. I have them both hanging in my laundry room for wall decorating but can be used at a moment's notice.

I haven't gone into a "new book" store in decades. When I can, I go to the used book stores. McKay Books is one of my favorites and is on the list for sometime in the next few months. They're each about an 1 1/2 away but it's so worth the trip.

AFAIK, there are no used bookstores around here. There was once one in big town, but it went out of business several years ago.

I lived off grid for about 7 years. I was always trying to perfect my “washing” skills. I had a collection of brushes that I found more helpful than scrub board although scrub boards have a place. And I used them often! A rug beater was used often…and not for beating kids!!

I do have some good stiff brushes to use as well. I only have small space rugs, so no rug beating for me. I give them a good shake outside and wash them.

Today was a pattern supply run. The local Joann's has someone that typically shows up as the store opens on the first day of any $1.99 pattern sale and grabs as many patterns as she can afford. This started when they removed the limit on the number of patterns you can buy. I only found out because a cashier told me when I asked if they were looking to stop carrying printed patterns. End result is that I haven't been able to get patterns for months. So with the help of a friend, I got there just after opening today. I think the weather helped. I managed to get all but 2 of the patterns I wanted. And a couple of skeins of inexpensive yarn to practice and relearn crochet with. And a couple of spools of thread that are exact color matched to friend's pants.

And I paid my "fool" tax by buying a couple of lottery tickets on the way home. Mainly because I wanted a good look at the mini liquor bottle selection at the local store. I want to explore making some of my own moonshine flavors, but I don't need quarts at a time. I don't drink that much in a year. They also had some mini moonshines, so I may grab some of those flavors to tuck back as well. This is an odd area for me because I don't drink much. And I'm likely to start making my own mead again. But I'd also like to have a selection available in case it's needed. While I don't drink, I have friends and family who do. And there are recipes that use alcohol. I currently have a few minis in the pantry for some canning recipes. I did not add more Everclear since I still have two bottles on hand. Anyways, the selection is decent enough that I'll probably print some of the mixes and see what I can come up with. And some flavors, like peppermint vodka, I will just have to make at home.

We collect those little mini liquor bottles. I've lost count of how many we have now. Almost every time we go into our wine and liquor shop, I pick up a couple of those mini bottles. They are to be used as barter items.

I don't go in that often. But that's okay. I don't need to spend that much on it. It will grow slowly.

One of my preps arrived in the mail today. I use a very specific creamer to make my chai because of body reactions to half & half. But my craving for chai crashed early this year. And I have a very large bottle of said creamer in the fridge, and part of another one. So I ordered one and two cup collapsible bags/bottles. I'll split most of the creamer between those, with some head room, and drop them in the freezer. Then I can just pull and use them as the desire hits. None sitting in the fridge for months until it goes bad.

Back in the old days....about the 1960s my parents had a small bar in their "wreck" room and dad put up several small shelves and had a large selection of miniature bottles on them ... for decoration....since dh and I don't drink ..after they passed..we saved them...we still have them...I found that a lot of them will fit in the taller cookie tins...lol
We might use them for barter..one day...maybe we will add a few more...might be a good idea..

I have a big cabinet in the laundry room. That's where all of ours are stored, along with our regular sized bottles of different alcohols. I don't have room for all those little bottles in our wine cabinet. Now that we have a more local favorite wine and liquor store, I restock our wine cabinet about every two weeks while on our shopping run. No need to go into big town to do it. I limit my purchase of those mini bottles to about once a month, though.

I wish I had wall space for shelves to display ours on. I think they are so cute, LOL.

Sherree, the problem with liquor being visible is that it walks off. Dad probably had over 100 of those little bottles, along with many collector's decanters he'd bought over the years (they were empty --- but still worth money) His tacky neighbors stole all of it.

Yeah. Plus, can you imagine trying to keep all those little bottles dusted! Still, I think they're cute. I like looking at them.

Granddad had a small cabinet he used for alcohol. I use it for essential oils because it is seriously good at containing the scents. Tightly fit wood.

I will likely find something similar. Small and tight that can be overlooked by most.

I love those bags I got to repackage the creamer for the freezer. And I have way more than I needed for that project. So I think the excess OJ will go in two after I start the crockpot pork tomorrow.

I used to buy individual sizes of things like that. But they disappeared for quite a while. And now prices have gone up. So I'll use these to break down larger containers and toss in the freezer. They'll fill in all the gaps around the other stuff. And vonuse, since I don't use them often or year round - they'll be ther without an extra grocery run. And I can watch for markdowns.

Chemo got held today. My labs look great, but I'm having issues with my ears/hearing, and that can be a side effect of what I'm on. Will get a hearing test done Monday, but I was kind of glad to get the day off. Per the oncologist, it won't make a difference as i will be getting an extra treatment due to radiation being extended (due to the machine breaking down).

Hit Safeway today in NE CO. Progresso soup on sale for 97c/can (limit 4); yoplait yogurt 37c (limit 6). I got some Bisquik (they were out of the store brand, and only large boxes) $8.99. Yes I bought it. I did not buy the Hawaiian rolls I wanted ($6/dozen) due to cost or the cheesy garlic texas toast I wanted (they were out). Bread is outrageous, and I told DH I was going to start making ours. Right now, he feels it is not a good use of my time/money/energy, and he is probably right. But.... when I am feeling better - that's gonna happen.

Eggs were $6/dozen. I noticed holes in the milk, Bisquik/pancake mix, but not much else - but it was a very quick trip, not like I went down every aisle.

I also can make my own Bisquik - just am reserving what energy I have.

I wasn't going to go out anymore this week and then I realized that Monday is a holiday, so I started getting my stuff together for the dump and all my errands. We had a hellacious thunderstorm last night, so Mother Nature changed my plans again. Driveway is flooded, looks like somebody took a disc plow and dug an 18 inch deep furrow down the middle of it. Lost some tin on the barn roof and the water ran thru the barnyard so hard and so fast it tore one of the stall doors completely off the hinges. I'm guessing we had over 3 inches of rain in less than 30 minutes, like a good old nasty summer thunderstorm. All the animals are ok and the fences appear to be intact.
The only stall that flooded is the one that lost part of the roof, so I have made some progress.
Not looking forward to cleaning up the mess today.

My tooth is even better this morning. It gave me a bit of pain only after I ate supper last night, but I took Aleve, and it stopped the pain. I'm continuing with the hydrogen peroxide rinse and clove oil.

It will be Monday, before my next grocery shopping run, barring if my aunt doesn't pass away. I'm sending off my Sam's order today for the month. Since, I'm no longer adding to my food storage, my cost at Sam's has gone way down. I've got other shopping to do in small town, Monday, and I hope that I can find what I'm looking for in dress clothes. I looked through my newest Blair catalogue, but they didn't have anything I would wear. They don't have dress clothes, or their selection is very limited.

I'm doing laundry right now, and I'll be doing a bit of house cleaning, too. It's cold outside, after the storms went through, yesterday. 43 for our high, today.

I made oven baked bacon wrapped chicken breasts, a romaine garden salad, green beans, and dinner rolls for our supper last night. I made enough to have again tonight as leftovers. I think I'll bake Cary a potato, tonight, to go with his meal. He's not crazy about salads.

Another week under the belt. Next week will be just as busy. Although I'm halfway tempted to take Monday morning for a thrift store run. Almost all the local thrifts are running 50% off sales.

Making lists is helping. And most of this weekend will be repairing clothes for one friend and making gifts for another friend. I am truly enjoying having the time to sew. As I sew I also doing a lot of recycling of materials and completely rethinking my wardrobe. It's well past time.

A friend is thrilled that I'm actively sewing again because I can help her with issues she has had. Her mother used to sew but she herself never really learned.

I'm starting to purge things. I have more time, and more energy, so I'm getting things sorted out and cleaned up. That's a nice feeling as well.

Made some old recipes. They always end up with way too much. And the last few years, if I made them we ate them until they were gone. Now I'm getting our initial meals done. And then the rest is being packed and frozen to be available for quick meals when needed. A largevpot roast gave us two meals, and will give us 4 more. Today it's pork carnitas. It should work out about the same.

Years ago I hunted for an electrolyte powder that was safe for my son. I found Liquid IV. Last week I tested to see if it might help with his migraines. It doesn't wipe them out but it helps keep him hydrated so they are reduced. Turns put Costco has larger bags at better proces than Sam's Club. First time in a while. I ordered him two more flavors. I'll probably order a couple more before the discount is gone.

It turns out he is happy to drink them alone. But he also like to mix them with his tea. Works for me.

Looking thru recipes. I have a copy of 'Foods That Will Win the War and Hpw to Cook Them' ( or something like that). I think I will try to cook my way thru it hen I am feeling better. Lots of good tips about aging sugar, fats, and grains although mot people don't cook that way anymore.

I did find a knockoff recipe for Hawaiian rolls that I will be trying sooner!
