Good Morning! I'm busy as a bee this morning putting the final touches on tidying up the house, before the gang gets here for Bible study. I hope it goes well. It will be the first time we've all been together, since that blow up over Christmas.

Raising my coffee cup in a toast to your tea cup, Kyrsyan!

Enjoy your Bible study group, Sherree!

Woke up to a bit of snow on the vehicles this morning, and it's started snowing again while I'm sitting here at the computer - big, fluffy flakes. It's pretty much stopped now; only place it's sticking is on the field across the road; otherwise it has melted when it hits the ground. The temps are supposed to get up in to the mid 30's by early afternoon. It sure was pretty to look at coming down, but I'm not going to complain that it melted  Since January and March are the usual months we get snow storms/blizzards, I'll just enjoy this light, fluffy snow.

The first seed catalog of the year showed up in the mailbox this past week - RH Shumway. I love their old fashioned 'Wish Book' style. I'm looking forward to getting out the sticky-notes and marking pages. I want to purchase fresh green and yellow pole bean seed for this year's garden; and will probably look for pole lima bean seed as well. I'll get my tomato and pepper plants from the lady a few miles away. She also sells at two farmer's markets in the area - I save my $1 and $5 bills that I get in change to use to pay for what I buy from her as it gives her change to use for others.

Speaking of Lima beans - has anyone ever heard of 'Blue Speckled Pole Lima Beans'? Years ago a fellow at work had some in his lunch - they turned purple when cooked! His Mother in Law had grown them but did not want to share seed. I guess Google is probably my friend

Dang, now I want to go cook up a pot of lima beans with ham... Corn bread to go with of course, but the greens will have to be spinach as there isn't anything fresh to pick. I'd picked up a take and bake pizza at Aldi the other day that I need to fix for lunch today, and have leftover that need to be eaten, so the limas will have to wait. I have dry lima beans in the pantry, but may leave them in their storage jars and just pick up a package of frozen limas since I have to go to town tomorrow anyway. I always cook way too many beans when I start with dry ones.

Plans for this week:
*Go to the pool 3 times this week - pool is a prep as it helps me keep in shape.
*Grandsons to dentist - prep
*MD appointment - prep
*Go to workplace and have them help me figure out what I need to do about insurance - prep. Hubby is eligible to carry it now, but I still have several weeks of sick pay I can use. Also need to print out check stubs.
*Call the social security office and get an appointment - I can't get in to my on-line account - prep.
*Evil Empire for chicken for cats, Aldi for dairy products
*Run the 2 bags of outgrown kid clothes daughter sent over through the wash and sorting them for donation or the rag tote. Daughter sure had her boys in the right order - Mr. Picky about his clothes is older than Mr. I don't care what I wear while I climb trees and play in the river so she is able to pass them down  I keep at least a couple of decent outfits on hand for Mr. IDC, but I choose when and where he wears them; the rest come from thrift stores, etc..

Well, it's past noon and I haven't done much of anything useful so I reckon I'd better find something to do.

Take care all; wishing you all a good week!

Well, we didn't have our Bible study, today. When everyone arrived, DDIL's mom wanted to have a family talk to clear the air amongst us all. That's what we did. It went well, enough. It was plain for Cary and I to see that she still expects everything to be done as a family as she directs. We're sticking to our plan to just include her on occasion when it comes to doing things with our DS and DDIL. She will be included at our discretion. It might take her a while, before she catches on, but oh well.

It's a rainy and dreary day, today. Temps aren't too bad, though. upper 50's for our high and 30's for our low. It's going back up into the upper 60's to low 70's a few days this week, with more rain. From the way it looks, January is going to be a very warm month, which it very unusual for us. So much for that severe winter that a lot of people were predicting for us.

Right now, I don't have a clue what we'll be doing this week. It seems like everything is up in the air, so we're not making solid plans for anything.

I allowed myself a cup of caffeinated tea, my favorite black tea. That helped.

I'm currently cutting patterns for a design for a friend.

Mom is being released. The doctors don't know but there's no sign of stroke. They think it's migraine.

Monday, I work. Plan is to start early so that I can wrap up with call from boss. If I wait until her call it will get all jumbled. Plans for afternoon are to head into town to pick up fabric and tableclothes that someone is giving away. And then to a produce giveaway at a church.

Boss has asked me to limit my hours for now. That works as long as she realizes that it means she can't keep piling extra tasks on. I'm fast but I can't bend time.

But that will mean more non- work time. Some of that will be used for transcription to bring in some extra. More of it will be spent doing more training. And some other will go to getting back into daily walking or working in the yard. All of which will help with preps.

Today I'm working on cushion covers for a friend. And basic household cleaning.

Was raining and just generally blah weather this morning, so I figured I'd see what our new-ish Aldi's had.

What a disappointment that was. Most gas stations have better selection and more stock than this store. Just glad I don't have to rely upon it.

Rain has quit (for a while) so pulled some weeds out of the raised beds.

A couple more hours of simmering and I won't be tortured by having to smell chicken stew cooking ;)

Wife finished a couple toboggans for any more cold snaps....nice and heavy wool...and long enough to cover the ears too!

It sounds like your Aldi's and my Aldi's are the same. I buy Cary's German candy bars there, and shop their seasonal favorites, and that's it. There's just not a big selection of anything.

Tech and Sherree, I'm sorry that your Aldi's aren't up to par; I love ours - that is where I do the bulk of my shopping, and where I purchase most of my basics - bread, milk and other dairy, etc... Flour/baking stuff is bought in bulk at the Amish market, Cane Sugar I pick up at Rural King.

I've only been to an Aldi once and it was years ago when I was visiting my cousin in Florida. I was not impressed.

The new Dollar General near us is nice and bright and clean. I've only been in there once, I don't need anything.

I finally was able to order 4 more 15 qt. locking lid totes from walmart and two cases of 1/2 gallon jars. It remains to be seen if they actually arrive. And I ordered another 46# bag of dog food, DH will not be happy about it.

We have nothing in particular planned this week, that is except continue to work on the pantry, its coming along nicely. Still have a ways to go though.

Our Aldi is miserable... about the size of a small convenience store....we went once... difficult the get in and out...in the middle of a strip shopping center.....a real grocery store 2 doors down.. don't plan to go back to Aldi

We are lucky to have a Lidl even closer get our European and German items there at great prices

Ugh. I'm sure I did the math right but the pattern isn't piecing correctly. Yet everything is the size it is supposed to be. I'm thinking the measurement for one piece is cut just a hair bigger. And that normally wouldn't matter, but it does for this one.

I'm giving it to friend. If it fits, I'm just going to deal with the circle and get it sized correctly. Because I need a correct sized one to make the removable cushipn covers.

And Dad gave a lot more of the story. Mom never got in a room before the transport. She was on a stretcher in the hall all night. And he was on a hard plastic chair next to her. What the frag is going on in FL hospitals? Anyways, they are back in the RV and have both crashed. He said Mom crashed as soon as they got back.

I'm off to fix the zero degree sleeping back I found at thrift. It needs a new clip. And then get it crammed back in its ditty bag. ... Well that did not go as planned. Freshly washed sleeping bags don't like to be compressed. And I don't have that clip style. And can't find the manufacturer info so I can see about ordering a new one. So I'll have to do some seam ripping.

It's not just Florida hospitals, it's hospitals in general. They've lost staff to burnout, vax mandates, and it's showing. A lot of hospitals are overwhelmed with flu, rsv, and COVID right now. I'm sorry your parents had to experience this.

Does reading and getting books count as prepping because, if so, I’ve been quite productive. :jstr: And no, they aren’t “prepping books”. Lol

However, for any of you that might be kindle readers, I did learn to use the Libby app (formerly overdrive) and connected it to my kindle. I then was able to connect three libraries that allow membership from anywhere (digital membership to be able to access ebooks) and have access now to SO many books for free! It has been amazing.

This week will entail menu planning and continuing to take it easy from surgery. I go back to work two weeks from today.

Thanks for the tip, briches! My local library has a thing where you can obtain online books, but it doesn't work on Kindles. I will be checking this out!
If you need help, let me know. My local library has never had many ebook offerings, it was when I was able to connect to the others that was huge.
I just finished Mitch Albom’s The Stranger in the Lifeboat (great read!) and am about to start on Anxious People by Fredrik Backman.

I would love the name of those libraries that allow membership from anywhere.

I use the Libby app on my phone. My Kindle readers are ancient and won't connect. I just passed one of them on to a friend who likes to read on them. And I'll be passing on the other when I find it. They are Kindle Keyboard e-readers. Some of the first models.

I really need to update the info for two of my local libraries as well. One charges a fee for in state but out of county. The other just requires that I call them once a year to verify all my info.

So far today is looking good. Fingers crossed it stays that way.

I miss my kindle keyboard. It was my favorite. I have a paperwhite. It is great for reading at night, but I miss the buttons of the keyboard one. I am considering the Oasis, but it is a want, not a need so am waiting.

The libraries I connected to are:

Clark County, NV e card: eCard Application

Harris county, TX e card:
iKnow Card | Harris County Public Library

Broward county Ft Lauderdale e card:

I have heard there are other libraries that allow non residents to pay a fee (like nyc) for a library card. I am considering that too. (I plan on making a donation to the libraries I connected to after I get my medical bills paid). Reading is keeping me sane at the moment. :rs:

Our Aldi's is a small store, too. I guess that's why they don't carry much. I'm lucky to find the seasonal items I want. When it first opened, I wouldn't dare go there, because GTR took it over, and it sorta became a hang out for them. Now, it's not that way, but I like having more of a variety of options than what Aldi's offers. Sure wish we could get a Lidl, here, so I can compare both places.

I would love to have an Aldi close. Nearest one is 6 hours away. Although if I am really on my game, I can meet most of their prices when a local grocery store has sales, but I really have to watch. And I do try to support our local independent grocers. Without them, Kroger and Walmart would take over everything

Just sit something really heavy on your sleeping bag for awhile and it will compress the way you want it. I make hubs sit on stuff I need to flatten down.

Ok this has nothing to do with library books, but Renee, last week I forgot to tell you that my Dollar Tree has those bendable toilet bowl brushes that you said you were looking for. They may not be the exact ones you want, but maybe they would work.

From what I have seen there is no comparison...just the different imported cheese that Lidl carry is remarkable and amazing prices.....we find so many wonderful items from Europe....and so many imported candies and cookies...I also get a lot of imported italian pasta from them...
We have a Giant Food ....a different store than your Food Giant....they are very close to Lidl and a huge store they are owned by a company from the Netherlands and they also carry a lot of imported food... but their imported food is much more expensive than Lidl.......but they do carry a huge selection of items...

Thanks for the info. Maybe we'll get a Lidl in big town, too. It sounds great. I usually order a lot of our European foods directly from Germany. It would be nice to shop for that locally.

Fresh homemade peanut butter cookies and a pot of coffee went over very well with Cary's new cousin, LOL. Just another country boy who also does ancestry work. He came upon our oldest DS at our hunting club while deer hunting. He noticed DS's name and ask who his dad was. DS told him, and he wondered if he and DS were kin. DS gave him Cary's phone #, so he called Cary last night. He came over, and they turned out to be 3rd cousins on Cary's dad's side. He brought all of his ancestry work with him, and he and Cary compared each other's to make sure both had the same info. It was a really nice visit, and he invited us to his home for a visit. He lives closer to small town where we shop. Life is always full of surprises!

That potato and venison casserole lasted for three more meals. They had breakfast at church Sunday morning (once every three months) and there was an egg and potato casserole, I said to myself oh please no more potatoes. I'm not much of a potato eater anyway, but I'm good not having anymore for a good while.

We are still separating, repackaging and organizing the pantry. DH has gotten into the pantry closet now and is taking the vacuum sealed jars I had in there out to the cabin. He does know I will be bringing some back into the house.

I've been putting off having any more dental work done, until after the start of the new year. Well, I got up with a toothache this morning. I called my dentist office to make an appointment, and the soonest I could get one is February 15th. They are renovating the office and are not seeing patients right now. I hope I can hold out til then. This is the year to get full dentures, I'm afraid. I'm losing so many teeth that it just doesn't make much sense to keep dragging it out. As long as I have Lupus and Sjogren's Syndrome, I'm going to keep losing my teeth.

Tomorrow, we have planned to go into big town to get all my health insurance and prescription plan switched over at my PCP's office, do some shopping, and meet our DS and DDIL for dinner out at a restaurant of their choosing. They both work in big town, so it was easier just to meet them there in town, after they get off work.

My dear aunt is still holding on but is getting weaker by the day. I'll be getting a new update from Mom, today. Mom's next to oldest sister is now in bad shape, too. She's 86 yrs. old.

Unless, I can get rid of this toothache, I'm not going to get much done, today. I've taken 2 Aleve, and it has dulled it somewhat.

Thank you. The 2 Aleve I took earlier has dulled the pain a bit. Even the clove essential oil I used last night didn't touch the pain.
So, did your dentist prescribe some antibiotics? If the pain is constant, not just when you chew or due to hot or cold foods, you likely have an abscess. If your dentist won't prescribe antibiotics, call your doctor. But letting it go for over a month is NOT acceptable! It can get into the bloodstream and cause sepsis or myocarditis.

I don't think it's abscessed. It hurts only when I chew and with hot or cold. I have a tendency to grit my teeth during the night, and I think that's what caused it to be so painful this morning. I woke up with my teeth clamped together. I've been having some pain off and one with it for about 2 weeks. My dentist's receptionist told me that if it became an emergency, she could work me in at his other office in big town if need be. If it keeps hurting like it was this morning, I will make that call to get worked in.

Well, there were plans to head to town and get more prep stuff this week. Then boss scrapped her rule of no more than 20 hours/week and threw 1099s at me. I reminded her. She hemmed and hawwed and said screw it. More to tuck away before next month when work falls back to normal - for a bit.

I'll take extra hours at high pay as preps right now.
