I got up around 0330 to take some (more) cold medication - so glad I stocked up in the fall!! I read for a bit before the med put me to sleep for an hour or so; then got up once it was light enough to see outside to take care of the outside cats and fill the bird feeders. I'm already ready to go back to bed
I had been trying to drum up enough enthusiasm to go to the Evil Empire for fresh boneless/skinless chicken thighs today but then realized:
(1) Yeah, no - the energy thing just isn't happening.
and
(2) The stores will likely be way too people-y for my cold induced low tolerance level today anyway.
I do have a couple of prescriptions that are ready for pick up, but will plead my cold and the bad roads last week. I have enough meds to get me through for a while anyway. Cat food was on my list, but it's to replace stock, not an absolute 'must have now' item since I do have some stored. Rural King has been out of the one flavor of food that my indoor cats like best; really don't want to go to Pet Smart, but don't want to let my stock get below 5 cases either, and it's getting close. To stretch it out, I've canned 35 quart jars of chicken thighs - canned to human standards - over the past few weeks, with a plan to use them for the cats unless there is an emergency. I may end up opening one today as I just can't find the energy to drag myself out to the store to pick up more fresh chicken - the rotten cold Hubby brought home to me is kicking my butt. The stores will likely be crowded with folks spending their monetary Christmas gifts, or returning items, so I really shouldn't be out and about sharing my cold germs anyway.
Speaking of chicken, I must say that the canning warmed the house up nicely though.... Maybe I'll pick up some roasts at the store next
Hmmm - just checked their on-line ad and that's a nope for this week - the sale meats are mostly things you'd buy for New Year's Eve or New Year's Day, and I've already got a corned beef brisket in the freezer. I'll check the other store ad when it comes in the mail today to see if they have anything I might want to can up.
I'm trying to work out what I want to do the rest of the week - the temp is up to 16*F, and is supposed to get up to 29*F today; tomorrow the temp is supposed to get up to 45*F = mud city Trying to decide if I want to try to go to the pool Thursday and/or Friday or not; figured I should probably let the cold run it's course for at least another day or so before I'm out and about too much.
There is rain in the forecast for Thursday; I'll see if I can't catch enough from one of the gutters once the roof has been washed clean to refill my 5 gallon canning water jug - there is enough left in it for a couple more canning sessions, but I'll need to refill it soon. Hubby only filled one 5 gallon jug before he drained the rain water tank for the winter - I can usually count on a few good rains during the winter instead of all snow and ice, so it will probably be enough unless I go hog wild with the meat canning.
Well, I'm guessing the cold med wore off and I have a temp again; started feeling cold and shivering so I'm going to go crawl under my nice warm heated throw and see if a nap helps it any.
Take care all; stay safe out there!!
