It'll be lovely when it's finished, Wanderlove. I hate the middle stages of a project when everything is pulled apart, but it's a necessary evil to get to the awesome END!

I had to stop work on a closet while I wait for the lights I ordered for it to come in. They are supposed to be at Home Depot tomorrow, according to the tracker. Fingers crossed!

Tracking said that my book order was delivered, yesterday. Nothing! Cary called this morning, and they are sending replacements with no charge. Date of arrival, Saturday. I like the convenience of ordering things online, but this is beginning to get worrisome. We never did get the rest of our shipment of brown bread. Cary talked to them about that, too. It was a total mess, so he just told them to forget it. We won't be ordering anymore.

I gathered a bucket full of figs this morning, and more tomatoes. My muscadine trellis is weighted down with muscadines. More jelly in the near future! Cary isn't crazy about it, but I love muscadine jelly. He would rather have grape, instead, but all of our grapevines died. My pantry will be stocked with apple, peach, grape, and muscadine jelly. The apple and grape I had to buy. Our apple tree didn't produce this year. Late frost got all the apples.

I've also starting making Cary's green tea myself, instead of buying the bottled cases. It's lots cheaper. I can store green tea bags with less room than I can cases, too. I need to start vaccum sealing them in jars now that I have a few boxes. We don't drink regular iced tea, but I'm stocking up on cans of Lipton instant tea just to have on hand.

Today is the last day we're going to be experiencing cooler temps. The next 7 days has our heat index climbing back to the 100 to 115 degree point!

Yesterday, Cary finally finished off the load of firewood he's been working on. Got it all split and stacked. He has, at least, 2 more trailer loads to haul to our house from DS's house. Today, he's washing our vehicles and mowing. I've got floors to mop while he and Frisco are outside doing their thing.

Instant tea is a good idea, its something I don't have. And good for you for making the green tea yourself, you know exactly what's in it.

I've got a walmart list going, I'm putting it on paper instead of relying on my phone because the list doesn't always come up in the store, the battery in my phone still needs changing. There is nothing on it that I have to have, although I would like to get some whole milk yogurt. They are still out of the DelMonte canned zucchini but another store in town does have it in stock. And a couple of things from Dollar Tree, I'm always looking for a supply of our allergy meds. Now if I just remember to take the paper list.

I think I already said that I'm cutting back on the medication that I've been taking for sleeping. I've cut it by one third and its still working, I'll do that for a couple of weeks and then try just taking one third. There are side effects that I'd like to stop. dizziness and edema. go figure I didn't know about them, I'm sure I thought getting sleep was more important, but I've been taking them for years, before I moved to the country. I'm probably up to 14 years older since I started taking them and maybe the side effects are more pronounced now.

My Sam's and Chewy orders were delivered today. Keystone tracking says it will be here tomorrow.

I'm in the mood to cook, today, since it's one of our cooler days. I'm making meatloaf, boiled cabbage, purple hull peas, boiled potatoes in butter sauce, and dinner rolls. I even made a red velvet cake, today.

Yummy! Red velvet cake! A small fruit or berry pie is on my list for Saturday farmers market shopping. Hard to get red velvet cake here outside of Mardi Gras time.

Judy- consider using some melatonin, to try if you're having trouble getting to sleep. You only need 3-6 mgs (start with the lowest dose). It doesn't "hang on", so you don't feel groggy the next day, but it really does help.

ST, I have been taking melatonin which may have something to do with why the decrease in my sleeping meds (Trazadone) worked just fine. The trazadone does not make me groggy when I wake up.

We went to town, I got 9 cans of the Del Monte Zucchini at super one, cleaned them out, At walmart I hit my head when I was getting water, it was a loud whack. I swear the mask makes me disorented. I continued with my shopping with my mask pulled down around my neck. When I came in the store there was a mask nazi at the door and made me pull it up and I immediately pulled it down when she was out of sight. I looked at the instant tea but didn't like the selection so I didn't get any. I followed my list and also got more box bottoms for case stacking. Two more cases of water.

The canning jars I ordered from walmart (4) all delivered without any breakage. The actually packaged them better than last year.

I forgot to look for a new toaster while at walmart, I had not added it to my paper list. And we skipped the dollar tree. I'm tired.

I have a 40 yr. old chest freezer. A 20 yr. old AC. A 20 yr. old hot water heater. I can't get Cary to understand that we don't need to wait, until they just quit, before replacing them. Might not be available or affordable in the future. He won't budge.
If he thinks they are expensive today just wait till tomorrow.

Today's price will seem like a great bargain soon.

SB- Your supper sounds so good! We had takeout pizza from a little place about 10 miles away. It was really good as usual but your food sounds better.

Between yesterday and today everything ordered has been delivered. It’s a mess around here and I’ll have my work cut out for me getting things squared away especially as slow as I have to do things.

DH pulled more corn and worked it up by himself again. We have a total of 41 pints, 6 quarts and a few bags of corn on the cob in the freezer. He said he thought he was going to let the rest go (shouldn’t be much left anyway) but then said an hour later that he wasn’t sure. We’ve put up way more this year than last year and we still have about 10 containers of creamed corn left, so I’m thinking we’re good on corn. I told him to put a few ears in with the pullets and let them enjoy.

Summer, I can take 100mg of melatonin and still not have restful sleep. Most people would be out for a week. Have you ever heard of that? No, I'm not taking that much now. I bought 20 MG tabs and kept upping for results. 100 MG of benadryl works. Since menopause my sleep has suffered.

Benadryl does work well, but eventually it will play hell on your memory. I have not suggestions.

Sigh... yes, it happens. It just means your problem probably isn't low melatonin at the time you wish to sleep. Sleep, contrary to the beliefs of the fortunate ones who just fall into bed, are asleep in 10 minutes and never worry about it, is a complex subject.

This is one place where if you have access/insurance to cover it, a sleep clinic could be worth looking into. Some people find various CBD products help. THC is definitely known to help sleep (in appropriate dosages).

But Judy is correct about Benadryl being ill advised over long periods -tgere are definite links with dementia. Of course, never sleeping can literally be life shortening... pick your poison. But not booze- it truly is a poison, except for a once in a blue moon grief emergency.

Put up another 10 feet of shelves in our garage yesterday. Can always use more shelving. I put cases of new canning jars up on them. The jars are all prepping spares. The shelving is pretty high up so I don't want any commonly used items up there. Our garage is fair-sized but it is getting very full.
Went for a long hike today just for the exercise.

Daughter is worn out and stressed a little from all the canning and garden. I told her quit picking so often, take a day or 2 off. Everything is really coming on. Plus she is trying to do the boys homeschooling and help us with the cabin etc.
I'm going to go in the house after coffee tomorrow and give it a good cleaning, then take the boys off for the day. She needs a break.
She helped us with getting the stove in and what a job. Boys helped too. The other menfolk are always at work. So today we got the pipe in. Man getting those pipes together and hooked together is a job too.
But its all in and chimney and some flashing.
Will still need more flashing inside and out, few branches cut. Finish the other half walls and something for ceiling.
Plus there is always the regular chores and cleaning etc.
Son doesn't sleep well due to EMS shifts. He takes melatonin which seems to help. His realtor has hearing on the 9th (my birthday) and Lord willing can get the eviction granted, so son can purchase property. Tenant is a slimeball she says.
SIL still duking it out at new job, word is they will move him to permanent spot on the 8th. Always praying for everyone.
My sis is better today but still weak. But eating and getting around better.
Lo and behold, a new stray kitten about 2-3 months old, has been coming out of the cornfields for a week. Friendly but starving. Did the search, no owner looking. Got kitten in a big crate, went got 1st shot and new pill for fleas and ticks that works in 30 mins. She has to stay in crate for a few days then can come in cabin. I gave her the shot went fine. Daughter held in towel. Boys are learning stuff every day LOL. Named her Oreo, black and white with fluffy tail.
Oldest son called me, he is on his way down to somewhere near Hocking Hills, Ohio, to make a video with another you tuber on camping. His YT is going good and getting plenty of views. He has a great job, this is a hobby.
Its going to be very hot this week. Pool looking good.
Everyone have a good weekend, stay safe, keep on keeping on.

The Underwood Liver Wurst that I ordered arrived. I tried a can, it was really good and I couldn't eat the whole can, seemed like a lot. Nice quick meal to add to the pantry, 24 cans to a case. Price was reasonable.

Sleep is challenging, especially during menopause. I think I tried everything (except pharmaceuticals)and the only thing that helped (Changes by Zand) was discontinued!! For some people (like me), the normal sedative herbs like chamomile and valerian work like Ritalin. I do better with skullcap (Scutellaria lateriflora), wood betony (Stachys officinalis), or passionflower (Passiflora incarnata). Skullcap is bitter, but more sedative as a tea than in other preparations. Sorry - herbal lecture over now!

I'm trying to keep up with the garden - harvesting is going OK, but the weeding is about to do me in. Yesterday, I harvested 2 five gallon buckets of broccoli -- some went to a neighbor, and I filled the freezedryer. I plan on getting some peaches tomorrow on my way home - some for fresh, some for the freezedryer.

It is still very hot and humid here so my outside work is done in little spurts. We managed to pick six bushels of zipper peas. Sold some of them. Gave some away and then put up 50 quarts. House is looking better as I have been inside more! We woke up yesterday at 4A due to power being out. House stayed cool. Cooked breakfast in summer kitchen on propane. All our alternatives worked. It was a nice dry run. Power came back on about 8 I think. I lived off the grid for about 7 years so doing without power doesn't shake me up too much. It's living with one foot in one world and the other foot in another world that is difficult if you know what I mean.

I don't know about you guys but I have a very sad icky feeling. I have used a little more quiet time these last few days just trying to settle myself. And I know that God is in control. Just seems like a lot is coming at all of us right now.

On a lighter note, the sunflowers are still blooming and still bring a smile to my face when I see them!

I'm finding myself a little more "rattled" than usual, lately, too. With life situations in general, and all that's going on in the news, it does seem like we're getting bombarded with more and more on a daily basis. I find myself not even reading the "Main" on the forum much nowdays. It's all just crazy. It's stressful trying to discern what is true and what is false.

I feel the same way. We are not retired and will likely have to make a choice b/w the jab and my job. I work in Healthcare, not with patients directly, and I like my job. I work at home and it has retirement I don't have to pay into. The rhetoric and propaganda is unrelenting and the verbiage is becoming more aggressive. I'm praying. Its a slippery slope. If you take the first jab, what about the next, and what's after that? Personal autonomy will be gone if this works.....

I couldn't sleep. So I got up and went to Sam's for their early hours. We needed more meat. I bought 10 lbs 90% hamburger, 12 lbs chicken thighs, 12 lbs of skinless chicken breast. I also bought a big bag of walnuts and pecans. I'm going to vacuum seal them today. I'll likely can some chicken and hamburger this weekend. We need more toiletries too. It's hard to think of everything. The stress of the jab is what bothers me, not the CV. I know how to limit exposure and protect myself. I also placed a big order for vitamins last night. I can't think as clearly as I used too. I realize it's related to stress and depression. Maybe I need to stop reading all the bad reports for awhile.

Hope everyone has a nice weekend!

It would be rather strange if someone did Not feel that way with everything happening now and all the dark shadows in our future.
Why do you think I keep adding shelving to every building at our place? My wife and I plan on filling every shelf too.

You're right. If I could get away with it, every room in my house would be turned into pantry rooms. I've already started with our bedroom, because pantry room and laundry room is full. I've only got limited space in the kitchen, but it's doable in there, too, on a smaller scale.

I've never seen it in any store, I was very happy that it tastes good. I could have spent that money and it could have been awful. When I first saw it it was $64 but when the price dropped I jumped at it.

I just lost a friend because I'm not vaxxed. She doesn't want to get together. I guess the being txd like a leper begins now.
Of the two couples we are friends with, one couple are both vaxed and the other couple only she is, her husband is a Vietnam vet and said he is not putting that poison in his body. DH and I are both vets and we feel the same way. At the church down the road there were several younger working people that were resisting, their jobs may change their minds, sad.

I was miserable yesterday at walmart with the mask, the other store didn't have any mask nazis so I was okay there.

I have an undercurrent of anxiety, we don't live near anyone and safely in the woods but as the year progresses (hard to believe its August already) the more I feel a pit in my stomach. I'm sleeping good, in DH's old lift chair. Dh has not been sleeping well so I'm going to put melatonin in his daily pills that he takes at bedtime.

I have quite a lot of cans that need to be put in box bottoms. I'm now stacking them on the floor of the pantry room. I long ago ran out of shelf space, LOL I thought the addition of those shelving units would solve all of my problems, but alas they did not, because I keep adding more food. I also am moving food off of a book case in DH's room, also know as the mud room because I need those shelves for books. He fusses about my books but I asked him if he would mind that I moved the food and put books there and he said it was okay. I always ask him if it involves his space. At some point I may be able to move all of my exercise equipment out to the cabin which will free up space in the house.

I took everything out of my pantry cupboards and reorganized so I can see what is on the shelves. Hasn't been done fully in years! Found a case of those small tomato paste cans that had at least one corrode through, so that is to be replaced. I was pleasantly surprise by some items I 'found', and feel relieved that now I have some idea what is in there, what might be needed, and can plan meals better.

Tax-free Fri & Sat in Iowa. Made it out first thing and bought several more pairs of heavy weight wool socks in my size. I'm very happy to get those: they have been on back order forever and I wanted several more pairs for storage. Only a few pairs came in. I'm sure the rest are gone, now.

Also looked at running shoes, but only the ugly colors were left in my size, so I didn't get any. I'll also look online for sales. I would like one more pair for storage, but it's not critical if I don't get it.

Back home and working on the closets, again. I ordered bigger battery-powered lights for them: should've done that awhile ago. Even better would be to hard wire them, but that's not going to happen because I'd have to pay someone to wire into the box. On the other hand, I can easily mount a battery-powered light. These are tiny, poorly designed closets. If I ever meet the designer . . .

I looked at the Keystone meat at an area Walmart today. The price is now $8 something, and every can of the roast beef was dented.

I stopped fooling around with the Walmart site, and went straight to Keystonemeats.com. The Walmart site kept giving me outrageous prices, like $37+ for one 28oz can of beef! I just ordered mine at $7+/can directly from their website. Not a single can was damaged.

I'm on a quest to have 52 cans of Del Monte Zucchini in a tomato sauce. That's 4.33 cases. That way I can have one can once a week for a year. I'm lacking 2 cases. There is one store in the big town where the VA that I can find it, Albertsons. I have to check the walmarts there. No Kroger in the area has it.

If I can get or grow zucchini next year I'll consider making it and canning it myself, although the can lists spices, but does not say which ones, typical of processed foods.

Its almost like searching for an out of print book that is hard to find, I'm sure some of you know what I mean.

I looked to order the cheap toaster that walmart has in their store, and online, at first they said pick up only and then a few hours later it was deliverable, I jumped at it, along with a Pioneer Woman tea pot. I want to make hot herbal tea in the evening to get more liquids in and have a nice pot to steep it in, it was not my favorite color (red) but it will do and didn't break the bank.

I'm making some changes in my canned veggie additions. I have plenty of the basics that we eat on a regular basis. Now, I'm looking to add canned veggies that we also like, just to add more variety, but only eat on occasion. Margaret Holmes has a big variety of things we also like. Butter beans, cabbage, squash, Italian green beans, etc. Those are the types of canned veggies I'll be adding. So, that's my quest. Adding more variety to what I already have.
