Be safe, brother and stay out of the heat! It's going to be hot here today, but not that bad. I have a doctor's appt. in a nearby city today, so will be on the road much of the day. I'll be taking DW's truck which has AC, unlike my '68 Ford, which does not.

Usually, riding my bike keeps me cool at highway speeds, but in weather like this it doesn't help; riding in this heat is more like riding through a blast furnace! Most of us on this board are getting to be old pharts and we don't handle the heat nearly as well as we did when we were younger.

At least I know I don't!

Best
Doc

That’s for sure! My DH tries to do a little outside work and comes in completely exhausted. I know better.

Every day that hubby has to work in that warehouse in this heat, I worry he's going to have another "heat cat" situation. Once you've passed out from the heat, it becomes easier im the future. Today I was really worried because he got food poisoning from the Carls Jr in Owasso over the weekend. No foreseeable break in the heat.

How hot was it?

Hotter than Totie Fields sauna pants!

Every time you post that pic I wonder if you and I are the only ones who remember Totie Fields.

Just grabbed this from Weather Underground.. note the heat index still feels like 100° out there. No wind to speak of

We were geared up for the power to go off but it never did, thank you Lord.

With Bad Hands comment. I had a thought. I have get the sun “more intense” the last several years. Add into that the tomato production, in vastly different areas of the state and country, is way off. Big ass plants but no fruit. What’s up with the sun ? Sorry Dennis for the drift.

Offhand I don’t know. In Texas, one selects one’s power retailer from dozens of them. One signs a 6-24 month contract. I’m a member of a service that selects the lowest rate available among the retailers. the new contract (which I haven’t yet approved) has a rate of 17.1¢ per kWh.

Interesting that you bring this up. Some folks may remember my attempt to grow tomatoes one year. I ended up with “big ass plants but no fruit.” The reason was the heat. The effect was two-fold: nights have to get under 70° at night for the fruit to set. Also, the heat during the day was so intense that it was necessary to water the plants every day. Missing even one day would make the plants wither within 12 hours. In short, you can’t grow tomatoes down here without them being enclosed in a “coolhouse”.

And yes, I had them shaded appropriately.

Gotta take the wife to Penn tomorrow so thankful the parking garage is in the basement.
Please accept my apology, I am so sorry.

I read that as: Gotta take the wife to the Penn tomorrow so thankful the parking garage is in the basement.

I was wondering what she was being imprisoned for.

My bad.

Naw you're good dude, seriously. It was all me, and after reading it a couple of times, I kind of thought you meant something like that. So again sorry, my bad.

It must be the heat.

Currently 102 deg, feels like 110 deg. Received a little rain last night at about 8:30 pm. Less than 1/10" over about 20 minutes.

We are cool at 106. I have the air going full blast. Been cooking and I'm hotter than well you know.
Out to get diesel this morning. 6.79.9 101 bucks to fill up. Also saw more trains with no containers and a lot of trucks parked in yards. We have tons of independent truckers up here in the desert because of the acreage lots.

Hit 109 for the third day in a row today. Tomorrow will be…. 109. This temperature ties the all-time record since the 1800’s. All week, lows will be 80 or so (record high low temps), and highs not less than 105, up through 108. That’s for the next seven days. Absolutely insane.

The people that got hosed were the ones on variable rate plans. They sound good right up until there’s a shortage. Then you get shtoinked.

I have that info. For the contract that ended last month, 9¢ per kWh. I fired the service and signed on to my current provider @ 14.4¢ per kWh. Long term contract. Power rates will never go down. That’s why I did a long-term.

Please get your evaporator and blower cage and condenser cleaned.

I muse that doing that, even if it cost a few hundred dollars a year, your savings in electric bills pays for it and then some!

Did you take the total $$ and divided by the kw to include all the other fees and crap?
I think we're .13 per kWh with all the fees.

Spot rain, few rumbles possible after attempting to tie a 121-year-old record high

Updated: 50 minutes ago

HEAT ADVISORY IN EFFECT AGAIN WEDNESDAY

Another record high day for the Brazos Valley and the 25th time 100°+ has been recorded this year. The high for Bryan-College Station came in at 109° -- tying the day’s all-time record from 1954. Today also tied 1954 as the third all-time hottest July day in our 140 years of record keeping. Another day of historic heat is expected Wednesday, even though the thermometer is expected to not reach quite as high. 105° is where the forecast points to -- if we get there it will TIE the all-time record for July 13th, set back in 1901. Triple-digit highs are expected straight through the next 10 days. The good news? Highs are only expected to touch 100° - 101° Friday and Saturday.

While not a great coverage, Wednesday and Thursday afternoon will bring the chance for a few more scattered showers and brief downpours to the Brazos Valley’s landscape. Not enough to help drought conditions, but it could at least provide a cool down if you can get under or near one of these. Where they do pop, they will cool the air rapidly from that 105° heat to the 70s or 80s -- which can cause strong wind gusts 30-40mph or higher. Very isolated wind damage is not ruled out. Hazy skies look to return by Sunday and Monday as a short-lived plume of Saharan dust slips into from the south.

Tuesday Night: Mostly clear. Low: 79. Wind S 0-5 mph.

Wednesday: Partly cloudy with a 30% chance for scattered rain by late afternoon. High: 105. Wind: SE 5-10 mph.
Wednesday Night: Partly cloudy with a few showers & iso. storms possible before 10pm. Low: 79. Wind: S 5-10 mph.

Thursday: Partly cloudy with a 30% chance for a spot shower / stray thunderstorm. High: 102. Wind: S 5-10 mph.

Thank you Lord for the rain, it is saving our butts

Yeh, we have been getting tons of rain lately, after the long stretch of none.

I just wish I had more rain barrels as im missing so much potential of stored water.

Rainwater does the plants good.

And Dennis, our tomato plants are just about fried.
During june, I had to water everyday or they would wilt.
(had to hit them a few times with calcium nitrate to keep blossom end rot away, even after using natural calcium mucho)

What did help was blocking the late afternoon sun.

But with this furious heat, the san marzano is toast, but the beefsteaks are still hanging on.

Might save some seed from them for next year if I can get another mater or 2.

Insane and depressing, not to mention discouraging...my garden. I've managed to keep it mostly alive thinking this would end but with at least two more weeks of this, it would take a miracle.

It's been unbearable here as well with heat indices hoovering 110º-115º. My son is a diesel mechanic and got into a vehicle today that was out on the lot and it registered 136º in the vehicle. We had massive thunder & lightening that went on for about 30 minutes with barely any traceable amount of rain at all.

We've gotta leave one of our side windows cracked a bit to let out the expanding hot air. Otherwise, ka-BOOM.

It's going to be 102f in Princeton, TX where Weebit lives. She works at the Sonic there, so say Hi to my lil girl if you stop by for a drink there. She's the short one that will roll her eyes when you call her Weebit.
