This morning there are interesting things on IAF's Twitter page, plus new podcasts on GSM Channel, Oppenheimer Ranch Project, Deep South Homestead, Adapt 2030 and IAF. I don't check Electroverse, sott, or Big Wobble any more because they jam up my computer.

•Powdered zinc has to be ordered as available supply is gone in S.E USA
•Reduction of available store goods is happening slowly so you don’t notice
•Items that have run out on store shelves the excuse is that there “Isn’t a high enough demand for it”
•Canned foods are not as readily available as junk food is
•Move to Blockchain to track movement of all food shipments and goods globally
•Soft rationing for bulk goods has already begun i.e 25+ lbs bags of sugar, wheat etc…
•Stopping global migration with a financial crisis
•Migrating to where the food will be each season

TxGal, thanks for posting. I'll keep checking and pointing out anything interesting, since I probably have a lot more free time than you do.

It's raining today, but I'm cutting up a board in the greenhouse where it's not too terribly cold when I'm doing something active. Using a little hand saw takes a long time, but it doesn't throw up any dust, which could be almost deadly for me, plus I can pace myself and not wreck my shoulder or back. When I'm done I'll have six each 16" x 4' pieces of chipboard that I can use for shelves or platforms. I'm going to have to buy plywood for finishing the chicken house after all and I'll have to get untreated so the store will cut it in half for me. Not sure if I'll paint it or soak it in old oil to keep it from weathering or getting eaten by termites. Perhaps paint on the half that goes inside the chicken house and oil on the half that goes outside.

I'm still trying to get at least one important thing done every day, since IAF's last two podcasts. And I hope to finish up shopping this weekend to keep me for a very long time. I don't think this new coronavirus will be seasonal like our annual flu always is. If it goes big, provided the recent news isn't just more sensationalizing, I'm guessing it could run for two or three years. I could deal with that if it happened this afternoon, but I'd like it better if I could do one or two big shopping runs before I put myself into total quarantine.

Thanks, Martinhouse! I owe you a pm which will explain much, I think :-) We're okay here, just having a lot of appts back to back, and in between livestock work, land work, etc. Time has not been our own of late. I'm doing pretty good just trying to keep up with the reading, let alone posting. I think after next week we'll settle in better :-)

You are getting so much done, I'm envious! We're getting that rain, too, and it's in the low 40s here today with a chilly wind and constant rain. I don't want to complain about rain because we're in a drought.

We have seed potatoes coming in this week, and I'll probably pick up more from the feed store. I need to order a few more fruit trees, but Stark Bros, which we've been ordering from for over 30 years, has a lot of regular varieties that are not available....not sold out, simply not available. Must be the weather effects, I'd guess.

I'm noticing price increases at the grocery store. Looks like good old regular Campbell's chicken noodle soup may be going from it's usual $1.00/can to $1.50...what the heck! It's a good back up when homemade isn't available....cantaloupes, when available, have been small, barely ripe or overripe, and $2.99 each. Wow.

Aldi 1 pound roll of regular sausage went from $1.89 to $2.75 today. Double wow. Especially since fresh pork has been on sale.

All this mention of price increases is scary. I definitely HAVE TO get to town as soon as I can!

Just called my feed store and the old guy that answered the phone didn't know if the potatoes, onions, etc. have even been ordered yet. I suspect they have but I'll check back soon to be sure. I'll be asking at Lowe's too, when I go there, since they have the only garden center of any size in our bigger town.

Today and tomorrow will be big thinking and list-writing days. Hopefully I can shop both Thursday and Friday in the early AM.

I fry eight rolls of breakfast sausage (sometimes turkey burger or Italian sausage) one at a time. One fits in a jar.

Drain grease if desired. Let cool a bit and pack in Pint and a Half canning jars. Add water to the fill line. Eight of those fit in my 16 quart Presto pressure canner. Takes awhile to do it this way, but you can really stack it up.

I have tried cold pack, but it's messy and not as pretty when canned. Have to be more careful about getting grease off the jar rim so they seal. White vinegar is your friend. The taste is the same with either process.

“The first” ROBUST Scientific Evidence for Cloud-Albedo Control of Earth’s Climate [not CO2]

January 23, 2020 Cap Allon

Physical scientist Ned Nikolov, Ph.D. and his team claim to have found the first ROBUST evidence that decadal variations of Earth’s climate are driven by changes in cloud albedo, rather than CO2.

Nikolov is preparing a paper on his findings now, but has recently given a few tantalizing teasers on Twitter, one of which suggests that albedo variations are likely forced by the Sun’s magnetic activity.

Nikolov wrote that he and his team “tested the hypothesis that global temperature variations over recent decades were caused by fluctuations in global cloud cover.” The team have “developed a new analytic albedo-temperature model … [which] predicts departures of the global near-surface temperature from a long-term baseline as a function of Earth’s albedo deviations from a baseline reflective.”

Basically, the results show a high level of accuracy of modeled Reflected Solar Radiation (RSR) in terms of both inter-annual variability and decadal trends using 2 independent global temperature datasets (UAH and HadCRUT4), providing what Nikolov claims to be “a robust support to our hypothesis: Climate is indeed driven by changes in cloud albedo!

Image

Nikolov elaborates further, writing: “the essence of our findings is that cloud-albedo changes are the IMMEDIATE cause for surface temperature changes. What controls cloud variations is a different question … [the] Sun’s magnetic activity and solar wind likely play a crucial role.”

And in a succinct rebuttal to the CO2 theory, Nikolov adds: “The evidence provided by modern NASA planetary data is UNEQUIVOCAL that CO2 as a noncondensing trace gas in our atmosphere has NO effect on Earth’s climate! The atmospheric thermal effect is 100% due to pressure, not radiative properties of trace gases: omicsonline.org.”

We at Electroverse have long-stated cloud cover controls Earth’s short-term climate, that incoming Cosmic Rays raining down on our atmosphere nucleate additional clouds. We also suppose that fluctuations of these incoming CRs aren’t required to impact cloud cover — that a waning of our defenses (Earth’s magnetic field) will do the job, and that this waning is exactly what we’re seeing of late with an ever-intensifying Grand Solar Minimum coupled with the beginnings of a potentially extinction-level Pole Shift (Magnetic Excursion/Reversal).

Our modern civilization is entering uncertain times.

However, the upcoming shifts -however extreme- are entirely survivable for those properly prepared — so, learn of the changes, relocate if need be, and grow your own.

Those who reject the empire model and return to Earth have little to fear.

Lots of podcasts to catch up on this morning, but I've been on the phone. I got my sister caught up on the things I've read on the Wuhan virus thread and then I arranged to buy two five gallon pails of unshelled pecans from a neighbor, I've had them before and his trees do produce good pecans.

TxGal

I'm popping in and out but keeping that thread open. This virus is spreading like wildfire, I do not have a good feeling about it at all.

That was an excellent purchase to make. We're doing a lot of medical appts, as you know, and I'm not at all comfortable with that. Particularly since our main location for MDs is College Station, with all the A&M students.

We're getting extra feed and I'm making plans to do some serious shopping in off hours. Right now the stores seem to have hand sanitizer in stock, along with most of the other cold/flu necessities. Amazon appears about out of N95 masks. I expect other med supplies to follow that trend.

I really want to get us prepped to stay hunkered down for at least two months, and all our relatives are getting that word. Hopefully our seed potatoes will be delivered later today, but I did want more from the feed store. Garden is pretty much ready to go, seeds are on hand, etc. I'm really glad that much is done :-)

Remember, elderberry does work (reportedly) on coronaviruses. We routinely take a dose before leaving for town, especially if we are going near medical offices or the hospital. Then we take another when we get home. On top of hand washing, etc...

I hesitate to post this stuff, because yes, I do have it for sale. But that's not why I'm posting.. you can get Sambucol at Wal-Mart (but if this spreads, it's likely to be in short supply quickly) and other places. Just get some to have on hand! Because it only works if you take it "early and often"... it prevents virii from reproducing, it doesn't kill what is already in your system. So, if you wait to try to find sone until after you're feeling symptoms, you're already playing catch up.

TxGal, I think I'll be able to self-quarantine indefinitely after I've finished this one last shopping run. If this stuff really does turn into something awful, it could go a lot longer than one season and probably not die down much in the summer like our annual flu does. I've already worked out how I'd handle getting my cash at the bank and how I'd manage with anything that comes in the mail. (Luckily, I have very few actual bills anymore.)

Can you imagine what someone might be thinking right about now if they've never done any prepping and suddenly are taking this pandemic/quarantine thing seriously? Overwhelming!

Summerthyme, I used to harvest and dehydrate elderberries but after enjoying the first cup of the delicious tea from them, I developed an allergy to them. Not an itchy rash type allergy, but the kind that causes my throat to close up so that I can't breathe. Very frightening and VERY disappointing.

Yeah, that's not good! You might want to look into resveratrol... a compound in the skins of purple grapes (Pinot noir wine has good amounts) or the roots of Japanese knotweed. It is a potent antiviral...

I do find the timing of this Wuhan-flu to be curious. The implications are just so varied and huge. You have the Chinese clamoring for pork because their herd got decimated. Along with that they are buying grains like it's going out of style. The people were starting to get restless... and now here comes a "plague" that could kill a bunch of citizens (less food demand if it gets out of hand) and gives them the cover story to lock down ENTIRE cities...and possibly whole provinces (states) to control dissent. Very convenient for the regime in China.

Off topic
Summerthyme, I just want to thank you for you elderberry syrup recipe that you've posted on this board multiple times. I've made it from scratch a couple of times now and sure enough anything viral that I've ever caught is quickly taken care of. My family used to be skeptical of it, even my SUPER skeptical-of-anything-but-modern-western-medicine brother. But after seeing me bounce back in literally 1/2 a day (or even hours) from what would knock them our for days at a time - elderberry syrup (mine or Sambucol) is the first thing they reach for. And yes come late fall I start taking a swig of it every day as a preventative and take 2 or 3 swigs throughout the day if I start feeling like I'm coming down with something.

I just wish there was something that worked as well for bacterial infections... those still knock me on my butt no matter what I try.

TxGal, if I was in your shoes, I think I'd be feeling almost terrified right now. Especially if there were still all sorts of vital medical appointments to keep.

Seeing that Amazon is quickly running out of a lot of things is pretty scary in itself.

Hope you're still able to post but do what you have to...just be super careful down there!

Yep, I'm not feeling real safe right about now, and honestly, just took my temp. :-)

I'm checking with DD who works at another university nearby to see if she's hearing anything...they have lots of international students there.

This will be interesting, to say the least!

Yikes! Please do keep us up to date!

Looks like I need to stop postponing my shopping trips for silly things like not falling asleep until 4 AM. Heck, at 4 AM I can go to Walmart and just take my time and still be at the other store I need when it opens at 7 AM.

And there is NOTHING that could make me go to a doctor's office or a hospital!

A 4 am trip would be great! I'm still thinking about trying to do a Costco run in the early am to be there when they open. Needless to say, my mind is going about 100 mph in every direction.

If anyone needs to order seeds/get bedding plants for the garden, do it asap!!

I have plenty of seeds and actually, lots of nicely sprouted potatoes I could plant, too, but, alas, there will be no bedding plants here until well into February, so I'm out of luck there. I wonder if I could ask the guy at my little town feed store to special order some cabbage, kale, and broccoli plants for me? I could call for pick-up, stay out by the truck and have them load them for me. And if I found out ahead of time how much they cost, I could just leave the money on the tailgate, then back off several steps and say "keep the change".

Last year, the six-packs had gone up to $3.99. I'll be they could be $5 each this year! And if I can get them, I'll gladly pay it!

I really do wish I'd been able to get those rabbits. I need a buck with two unrelated does and they can be Satins, New Zealands, or Californias, or any combination of any of those or all one type.

If you are having trouble finding N95 masks check your building supply. I bought mine from Lowes. I just looked and my store has stock. They will also have nitrile and latex gloves, clear goggles, and Tavel suits.

Someone in the thread about the virus told me not to take elderberry for this because is might cause some "stor" kind of thing. However, you are my go to "expert" on just about everything. so if we are not sick, then take a tsp when leaving home and one when getting back. I do that sometime with manuka honey. Praise the Lord, we are very healthy and rarely get sick. DH's throat was bothering him the other day and I dosed him with manuka honey, he didn't complain about it after that. When I decide to take "something" I take complete responsibility in doing so.

ST, could you give me a short tutorial on using collital (sp) silver, I have it and have no clue on using it. TIA

Adding this information to what we're getting about the Coronavirus gives me a really awful feeling. I'm having to make myself stay calm and think sensibly about what I should be doing right now.
