HONOLULU (Map, News) - State officials say there's no doubt Barack Obama was born in Hawaii.

Health Department Director Dr. Chiyome Fukino said Friday she and the registrar of vital statistics, Alvin Onaka, have personally verified that the health department holds Obama's original birth certificate.

Fukino says that no state official, including Republican Gov. Linda Lingle, ever instructed that Obama's certificate be handled differently.

She says state law bars release of a certified birth certificate to anyone who does not have a tangible interest.

Some Obama critics claim he was not born in the US.

Earlier Friday, a southwest Ohio magistrate rejected a challenge to Obama's citizenship. Judges in Seattle and Philadelphia recently dismissed similar suits.

I always thought that the "birth certificate" is what the mother gets.
One (only ONE) yellow certificate with embossed seal and then all following ones are white. As far as I know the registrar keeps no certificate as such, just a book entry. It is that book entry that would be of interest, as these entries are most likely in sequential order.

Pig-in-a-poke is an idiom that refers to a confidence trick originating in the Late Middle Ages, when meat was scarce but apparently rats and cats were not.

The AP says in the first sentence..A "LIE". The quotes do NOT say that he was "born" in Hawaii. The author of the article should have to come forward and clarify this. Who "SAID" he was BORN in Hawaii? Who said that. I did not see that quoted. I saw no quote saying he was born there. Who wrote the article anyway? Ohhhhh.. conveniently..it does not say.

He is a she. Republican Linda Lingle is Gov. of Hawaii. Not saying that she wouldn't be swayed by O's mesmerizing charm, but not as obviously as if she were a Democrat. I do believe that he went to Hawaii to make sure that his birth records remain sealed. And, he waited 4 or 5 days after the announcement of his grandmother's critical illness before he even traveled there. But when your whole life is built on lies it becomes habit forming.

Precisely. The opening sentence of the posted article is not borne out by anything in the article that follows.

The gist of this blurb is that the Health Department Director and the Registrar of Vital Statistics "...have personally verified that the health department holds Obama's original birth certificate." They also go on to say that said certificate has not been handled differently than any other in their custody, and that despite having received numerous requests to release the certificate, they are prohibited by state law from doing so for the benefit of someone who does not have a "tangible interest."

OK. They have a certificate. Big deal. That much we suspected, of course. The question is: Where does this certificate say that this Barry Soetoro fellow was born?

Nothing in the article says, one way or the other. This is all the more perplexing because the State of Hawaii permits the registration of foreign births under certain circumstances. It is conceivable, for instance, that a child may be born in another country and that child can still be issued a Hawaiian birth certificate. That certificate, however, would note that the nation of birth of the child.

Thus, we see that the author of the article is rankly ignorant of Hawaiian vital statistics procedures. The author has blithely assumed that if there exists a birth certificate in Hawaii for a given child, that that, in and of itself, means that the child must have been born in Hawaii, which is not necessarily true.

That is why it is so important for the Soetoro campaign to set this issue to rest. We know Barry Soetoro may well have a genuine certificate of birth on file in Hawaii. What we don't know is in what nation does that certificate say Barry Soetoro was born. As we have seen, Soetoro could have been born in Kenya and still have a birth certificate on file in Hawaii.

You'd think Soetoro would want to set the record straight here. Yet he continues to fail to do so.

We are left to wonder why.

There are some pit bulls

that will not turn loose of this until it is revealed. There is something he is hiding that needs brought out into the light. No where did a state official say he was born in Hawaii, only that they held his certificate. Hawaii has some unique laws that would have allowed someone to request a live birth certificate without having been born in Hawaii. If that's all they have, it doesn't prove he was native born. If it does show he is native born then there is something else he isn't wanting us to know, a name change, a different father that one he has reported to the public, something is wrong. There is a reason he has a team of lawyers on this. It's not a dead horse until Obama makes it one, he is trying his best to bluff on this hand.

The way it works is in Amendment 20, Section 3.
" If a President shall not have been chosen before the time fixed for the begin-ning of his term, or if the President elect shall have failed to qualify, then the Vice President elect shall act as President until a President shall have qualified; and the Congress may by law provide for the case wherein neither a President elect nor a Vice President elect shall have qualified, declaring who shall then act as President, or the manner in which one who is to act shall be selected, and such person shall act accordingly until a President or Vice President shall have qualified."

Basically what happens is the people elect Obama, Joe Biden becomes President.

But first.... The Senate will have to find enough backbone to ask the damned question, and insist on an answer.
