PLAY Show Me something Nice!

Just a local Alligator Lizard. I was watering the flower bed last summer and this little guy decided to climb rather than scurry off.

'Cause the free wind is blowin' through your hair
And the days surround your daylight there
Seasons crying no despair
Alligator lizards in the air, in the air

View from Kamarie Farm.jpgThe view from my front yard, looking east -- my fence line is down in the first dip where you can't see it; all the cow pasture on the hillside belongs to someone else. But we get the beautiful view -- and it's like this all around our place. It's no hardship to stay home here!

It's been my dream home for as long as I can remember.

Mine, too, at least on the outside. Fallingwater is what got me interested in architecture when I was in high school, and it's been a life-long -- hobby is too weak; obsession, I suppose. Although my interest has always been to see how small of a space I could make work for everything I, or my family and I, would need in a dwelling. That's why I've always been interested in the Tiny House movement. But I still love looking at Fallingwater.

Falling Water is pretty, no doubt about that. However, the Tiny House movement is now a no-go for me. Why? Because people NEED to move around. You're gonna mess your body up not being able to do that, especially as you get older. Since this Covid mess, and limitations on free movement, I have found this to be so. Don't do that to yourself.

True, but we have a couple of acres and I have outside chores to do every day, so I get my movement. I don't move around that much inside the house anyway.

I could live just fine in a very small house. However, it would need some out buildings, a root cellar, an attached greenhouse, an attached screened aviary, a partially covered patio, and a wrap-around porch. :)

Same here, LOL! And a workshop, and a woodshed, chicken coop, goat barn....

Kathleen

ETA: Of course, I want, or need, just about all of those things no matter how big the house is. Having a small house just leaves a bit more money available for all of the other things we want!

You're in an apartment? That would explain a lot, most of us here that live in town at least have a small plot of land, even if it's postage stamp sized like mine.

Yes, apt. It's easier for me. I'm 5'6, and need to move around indoors, and if the space is cramped I can't do that. Not whining, just whining. LOL

My son was showing me a YT last night of this woman in NYC who lives in a 90 SF apt in Manhattan. OMG. She claims she lives there while saving money to move to a bigger place. I mean that's what, a little over 9 X 9'??? It was so compartmentalized. Crazy. She claimed to like it, but you could barely turn around.

She's probably a multi generational new yorker, they're used to living in small confines like that. The last place I lived, before I got married to OC and moved into his house, was an apartment, ground floor with a patio, that was 640 sq feet, it was tiny, but doable since it was nearly all open concept.

I watched a video the other day about a young woman living in a tiny apartment in Tokyo -- I'm not sure how long it was, but it was so narrow she couldn't stretch her arms out from side to side -- less than five feet wide, I think, because I'm short and my reach is still about five feet with both arms out straight. She had a sleeping loft, but it was still pretty cramped. I would have to go outside every day if I lived in a place like that. She was paying the equivalent of $600/month for it, which was probably really cheap for Tokyo, but still!

I've lived in houses; I've lived in apts. Good and bad in both, I'd say. Either way, as long as you are comfortable.
