Just a short comment on this, we might want to start another thread for it - what has never happened was a stark choice for their electorate - become a US State, or become an "independent country."

As long as they have the "choice" of being a protectorate they get most of the bennies of being a US State (especially welfare) and very few taxes or responsibilities.

The votes have always allowed all three options, I think the next time it should only be two - not because I want another State so much as because it simply isn't fair to ask for all the benefits without any of the taxes on people who could pay them.

And I've been saying this since the 1970s, this isn't anything new.

We know we will have a destabilized federal Executive branch, because of the elections. We NEED to quickly stabilize the Judicial branch. The more destabilized and unsettled the federal government is, the easier for the Marxists to try and knock out chinks of it.

Confirmation hearings will take some of the heat off the President. Because of the open ended term of office, a long lasting conservative Supreme Court can be reconstituted as whole in a matter of weeks. It will be much less subject to delegitimization than the Executive.

Thomas is going to retire very soon. This is not the first change in the court that will be forthcoming. That looks to be happening in the next term.
