Went grocery shopping and found Baggies Sandwich Bags. Box count has gone from 150 to 80 for the same price. They had some old and new stock on the shelves at the same time. Location in SW WI.

Also check your pill counts in your prescriptions. They seem to be short fairly often, and/or the prescriptions are unavailable and take extra days to full. (Major chain pharmacy) Refill as soon as you are able, as you may have to wait longer to get them filled, or not have enough to make it to the next refill.

Just checked with Ghirardelli chocolate and their warm weather shipping surcharge has just been dropped. Instead of overnight FedEx shipping $$$$ they again offer free standard shipping with $75 orders.

However the price of their bars has jumped in price. If I remember correctly, last year it was at $36.99 per box of 12 bars.
.
Now the exact same bar is $42.95 per box of twelve, and I couldn't find a discount coupon on the net. Last year I think I found a 20 percent off coupon code.

So I figure real world prices are up about at least 20 percent.

Ouch!

I have done some primary back of the envelope calculations on projected 2024 income and costs and it seems that increases in .fedgov payments will NOT cover my rent increases.

So all increases in food and everything else will result in a net loss in purchasing power.

Probably most other retirees are in the same situation.

I noticed that ever since the covid planned-demic food items are frequently going in and out of stock. I try to keep a supply of non perishable food items to buffer against this.

Their increase is a joke. Price of food alone is killing us.

Just a quick note on RX refills.

As the number of off patent drug ( generic) manufactures decreases, you MUST plan ahead just incase the drugs you need are backordered ( not available ).

Learn to stockpile your medications, just like your ammo and food.

Federal Law allows Controlled Substances, ie pain, sleeper, sedatives, to be refilled after 80% is used up.
Many insurance companies use the same time frame for Legend drugs ( not controlled, like BP, cholesterol, diabetes )

80% of 30 days is 24 days. So, you should be able to stock pile about 5 days of each oral/ topical/ maybe injectable medication each month if you are persistant and cognizant.

Try to avoid filling meds on Mondays since many holidays fall on this day. Pay cash for a small fill of meds if necessary to shift your refill date away from Mondays, Fridays, saturdays and Sunday.

The pharmacy I use is closed on Saturday and Sunday,,,, sheesh. But they are an independent, locally owned and do a great job.

If you have to use a "Pain Clinic" to supply your narcotic Rx's, be very careful about monthly new rx's that "must last 30 days".. The clinic PA / NP/ MD will be a little more flexible with early refills after you develop a more trusting relationship, just be cool and patient. ;)

I hope this review helps a little.

Went to Red Lobster last night for shrimps. It used to be $20 for all you can eat, with 2 sides. Now, it is $25 with only one side! I was so mad. So, I just got the fish & chips Friday special for $15 and the wife got the endless shrimp. Boy did she eat a LOT of shrimps! LOL

That is really dumb of them. You would think they would give you all the cheap sides and bread you can eat, so you fill up on that, and not the shrimp!

Instead of mentioning bad prices, I would rather say how many awesome sales Kroger has right now!
And ours is stocked to the hilt! It’s SO nice to see that instead of the scary holes and shortages like we’ve had for last three years!

Mannnn I wish I had about 500$ e yea dollars and another freezer right now.

But I’m grateful for what I’ve been able to prep up :)
God is good!

Yeah, I was totally thrilled with their price on cheese this week. I wanted to take advantage of their deal on eggs, but sadly, our store doesn't carry the 5-dozen pack.

I’ve been having a few broken pills in the refills this summer on through last month.

I’m on auto refill on my have to take medications and the last couple of months, insurance wouldn’t approve my copd inhaler until three days before I was out. I hate running that low.

I still work and have been having all kinds of issues on them paying for some things they’d already approved. Last week I got notice from the hospital they weren’t paying a $12,000 bill for a procedure they approved before hand back in September! Guess I’ll be fighting with them again.

I hit 5 stores today. I knew some of the shelves would be empty just cause it is Sunday. No boxed milk at dollar tree. Clerk said it comes in on Thursday and sells out same day. Bread shelves were bare. Cereal was on sale everywhere at $6 for 2 little 12 Oz boxes. Those shelves were bare too. Town and Country and Harps were stocked better than wally world. Closer to Thanksgiving they will give you a small turkey every time you spend $100. I went today just for sale items and spent $$$. Canned vegetables $2 a can. No thanks. Lettuce was $3 a head at one store. Potatoes ranged from $3.98 to $6.98 for 10 lbs. But gas was under $3 a gallon! Hooray!

Local WalMart has been $3.26 a bar for 2022 and 2023. It was $2.98 back in 2021.

You would laugh at some of the prices around here. I was checking turkeys on Instacart and Albertsons had 40, 50, 60 dollar price tags on their free range turkeys. I doubt anyone beats WM.
Fresh free range and you are asking to pay through the nose, unless you raise them yourself. Even then, turkey poults are up over $10.00 each...survival-to-harvest, up to the turkey gods. Day-old poults out of the gate (or into the brooder) are about the price of a 12 lb. frozen turkey if you shop for it.

My friend in Kansas said that her Aldi is enforcing limits on certain items now. She has a large family and buys entire flats of canned goods. The cashier wouldn't let her have them, even though there was no sign on the shelves. She said there was no rhyme or reason to what was limited, or why...

For years and years and years, Aldi's advertising slogan was, "The Stock-up Store". It was encouraged! :(

I didn't even know you could buy a case at a regular store. I always buy online mostly from Amazon and Vitacost because Amazon delivers with the case wrapped well and Vitacost packs glass and cans exceptionally well and replaces with no problems if something is broken. I buy Saurkraut, peanut butter, olive oil and a few other items that come in glass.

Seeing lots of holes on the shelves at wallyworld yesterday.

First weekend of the month tho.
I did an order from them yesterday and out of 20 items only 2 subs. The no salt diced tomatoes were out and the larger Angus sirloin. Had the smaller pkg though. 16 dollars about for a lb or so.

Yep... and when you add in the grain necessary (free range doesn't mean you don't have to provide almost all their calories. Turning them loose doesn't magically imbue them with wild turkey genes needed to survive!) to finish them, you can have $2-$4 a pound into them!

I think our daughter paid $8 a pound for a free range organic turkey a couple years ago. I think its nuts to pay it, but I've also home raised them several times and it ended up costing me over $2 a pound.

Yesterday, in Midwest: Aldi had a 12 can limit on cream of chicken soup. The cans were 18 cents less than regular price. What’s to stop someone from going through the register twice?

Two local stores, here, always beat WalMart. The week before Thanksgiving they sell turkeys for .49/lb, every year for the past 20+ years, or so.

('Cept for that one year, when a strange southern brand of turkey showed up here in the north, at .19/lb. To make a long story short, it appeared that brand of turkey wouldn't sell in that area of the south that year, when the news broke that one of the workers was having "relations" with the hens.)

Pre-Covid, there was an artisanal turkey rancher (best way I could describe him) from southern New Hampshire that would hand deliver two year old turkeys to rich Bostonians. These turkeys could go 60+ pounds, and at $4.99/lb that's $300 each.

My oven can barely fit a 30 pounder. I have no idea how those people cooked them.

Locally, there are a few gourmet shops that sell turkeys for about the $4.99/lb price, but they are only 14-16 pounds. New England gets overloaded with turkeys this time of year. Just the WalMart store currently has close to 300 of them (including the whole turkey breasts).

Well the cashiers at my store wouldn't let you do that, but I'm sure people elsewhere get by with it.
If there really is a shortage, I don't have that much of a problem with them limiting things, but when they're just being jerks about it, it's different.

Eggs at the local WalMart completely cleared out, again. This happens almost every two weeks.

But, something completely new, as now there are cardboard cartons (3 pound bags inside) of fresh dog food, where the overflow of eggs would be. I wonder if people are going to be turned off seeing the dog food in the human food section. Or are they just gearing us up for eating zee bugs?

I was just at our Indiana Kruger looking for those bite sized bags of Halloween candy bars.
This is the first year ever….that they don’t have racks of those out on clearance!
Maybe I’m too late and they all got bought up

:(

Yup. There will be cheaper deals at the local grocery stores here yet in the next week or so. Probably Aldi will have a lower price next week too.

We've raised turkeys on and off for years and they're not cheap to raise on store bought feed.

They do limits to try to make the deal last as long as possible - bring as many people into the store as possible. Loss leaders are there to create traffic.

I especially notice with Aldi, a lot of times they will be out of a sale/loss leader item early in the sale week. Some stores (maybe higher traffic areas?) are probably smart to limit promo items. Limiting regular price items is a bit different, but I suspect, same reason. With Aldi, I think they only get a truck once or maybe twice/week. When it's gone, it is gone for the week.
