We’ve been paying $1.59 for a dozen extra large eggs at the IGA we trade at for the last few weeks.

When we go to Walmart for pickup orders they’ve had what we’ve ordered for the last couple of months but we mostly get paper products and salt free canned goods and such.

If you ARE wanting candy and chocolate though, just wait a bit.

After Halloween is over, that is the best time to grab big bags once they all go on sale. We’ve done that for years.
I buy several, usually. Some will go into the freezer.
We don’t eat candy regularly.

But once in awhile …..you might see me sneaking into the “mini bite sized, candy bar bag” but don’t tell everyone about that
:)
Or.. or ... or... you could hit the sale this week in Sioux City at Palmer Candy Co. They have a sale this week on 'factory seconds,' whatever that means. $10/case. We bought one each of mint patties and dark chocolate peanuts. Over 20 lbs each case, more like 25. Looking back I should have grabbed a case of the lemon pretzel rods as well.

Naturally a Deal

Jimmy Dean hot sausage, 1.20 lb, case of 12

A lot of the stuff is near the date, or even after, but the meat has all been frozen and
with careful shopping there are deals.

Naturally a Deal

That's a little more than I want to pay, as we've gotten uncured bacon for maybe 1.50 per lb

Anyway, good deals to be had, even some organics

I have not bought any of their fresh produce, though.

It must have been a fluke last night because today they have plenty of eggs and I was able to schedule a pick up this afternoon. I really got spooked. And apparently the town I go to is getting more dangerous.

I should have added that the candy purchase is a business expense. We offer candy at all our shows, and couldn't pass the sale up. Mostly kids, and select adults. (other vendors are known to snipe)

Very disappointed to find out that they no longer have Saf-T-Pops. They don't make them but did sell them. Apparently they are no longer made. We reserved them for the very young. I mean, I had one save last year of a choking child at a show, and it wasn't even our candy! Somebody else's root beer barrel.

I have made the decision not to participate in Halloween this year.
I know so many folks who can better use the $50.00 I usually spend for candy distribution.
No one tricks or treats around me anymore. They do the parking lot thing. There is one gated area that still does it though.

I put in an Amazon order for our preferred trash bags about 2 weeks ago (with 2 day delivery). Sold & Shipped by Amazon, not a 3rd party. It was delayed, and then I received a notice that the new delivery date was Nov 2nd. Yesterday, I just received a new notice saying it would not be delivered Dec 12th. Wow.

I get the Walmart brand of concentrate apple juice. No sugar added just pure apple juice. It went from $1 this past summer to $1.27 this week. 27% increase is pretty amazing. I read tin cans are in short supply and this is driving up the cost. Who knows what is true. We are lied to so much I have given up trying to figure out why stuff keeps going up. Oh sure inflation, too many dollars chasing too few products, but still it does not seem to stop.

I had a "Oh My" moment at my local food bank on Monday.

In the parking lot, a dozen vehicles had people waiting. That seemed strange. Inside the lobby where we wait to be called for shopping, at least 1/2 dozen couples were waiting. Strange, only 1 person per family can shop. Everyone needs an appointment. The average time to wait was 45 minutes.

When a client was called, the husband when to the parking lot to wait!

I've never seen families have such "security" there.

The amount of goods in the bank was at about 50%. The cold goods area was 5%.

I did my shopping and had less than half of normal. I go once a month.

For some reason I had a taste for vienna sausage, I'd bought a couple of cases two or three years ago and really had search from them in the pantry, DH has organized it. So I ate a can and priced ordering more. Oh my goodness, the prices have gone up. They are cheaper at walmart than amazon.

My local walmart is still out of a few things that I was able to get at a big town wm.

GV brand sometimes gets a rollback to .68/can, here. Not long ago, the rollback was to .50/can.

I never get a taste for vienna sausages...because they basically have no taste. Then again, something so mild will not have an objectionable flavor. So, they are quite edible.

One should be aware of the sodium content, more than 1,000 mg in that tiny can. And, one should be aware of dented/(leaking?) cans. There was a recall because of that.

Tennessee residents can buy this today (October 31, 2023) at WalMart TAX FREE.

Tomorrow, it is back to paying Tennessee’s rediculously high sales tax on food.
Barry, are you in Tennessee or Mississippi? I was thinking the sales tax helped with Tennessee not having an income tax..? I may be getting my states mixed up.....

I live in Tennessee, and yes, sales tax helps us ward off an income tax.

But sales tax on food in the Memphis area (combined state and local tax portion) is 8 and 1/2 percent. That is a heavy burden on seniors, disabled, and involuntarily unemployed or underemployed citizens.

Those prices aren’t too bad actually. But probably won’t be enough for leftovers.

Heck, my family spent 300$ last year but sister says she’s not doing that anymore. Maybe more than that.

I don’t blame her either.

To be fair though , she goes WAY overboard and makes huge batches of everything just to make sure we have plenty to take home, even going as far as buying stacks of “take home containers” for us.

I’m so sorry. Taxing food is just horrible in general but especially NOW, with how bad prices are.

I plan on doing a no-shop November, or at least I am going to try. I am feeding canned goods to the chickens that I canned over a decade ago that are no longer good (tomatoes, pineapple, and kraut lead the list, but there are more). I have GOT to get more organized. The waste is just killing me!
