Bracketquant: What planet do you live on ???????? Those prices aren't seen along front range CO......
The planet of the 50 to 75% off sales.

But, I only live there one day every month or two. When there's a sale on an item I stock up a year's supply, or as I explained in an earlier post, I buy a number of those items equal to the number of months going out to the expiration/best used by date.

I don't go shopping that often, so it seems to be a lot of luck hitting the sale days. For meat, I'll look at the expiration date on things that look overstocked, and come back on that expiration date day. That's how I find most meat bargains.

I am sickened by the price increases I ran into this morning on cat food. Sheba perfect portions are up to 28 something a case of 24 and 33$ case of 24. Friskies shreds are over 17 case now. Purina cat chow is way up in the 20's too for an 18 lb bag. All in all between Chewy and Amazon I spent over 500$. I can't keep this up anymore.
Going to have to eliminate their favorites and just go with canned I guess.

Also ran into some of the bait and switch on Amazon on Chinette Oval Platters. Put them in my cart at 28 and looked at cart and it was 70 for the 100. Most of you veteran shoppers are familiar with the scam but just in case always check your cart.

Aldi's Fort Dodge, Iowa. They have literally eliminated an entire aisle. They shorted 2 aisles and took the vegetables bins and slanted them to take more space across what used to be 2 aisles. I whish I had that to take a pic in that part of the store because this is unbelievable. You could literally hold a bicyle rodeo in the empty spaces left.

We were there Friday evening and the place was nearly decimated. Very little produce/fruit compared to normal stock, and breads were likewise well depleted. There was a sign on the entry door apologizing for low stock, saying that due to severe weather delivery trucks were delayed. That weather has last a while if they have had time to rearrange the store like that. Wee were last in that same store in November, and have visited several times the past couple years while doing gun shows.

I did take the following pics on the way out. The curtain hides the fact there is literally zero chicken behind it. All that area is supposed to be chicken. The cooler speaks for itself. They did have quite enough - though far from filled - milk and eggs. And they still had the cheap $3.85/lb bacon as well.

Shelves well well re-arranged to hide shortages. Definitely mixed up from our last visit, and the normal Aldi's layout regardless.

Very busy on a Sunday afternoon. They do not lack for business but the customer volume doesn't account for the obvious shortages, rearranged shelves and aisles and lack of many products overall.

Forgot to say that for the first time I ran into what I believe was shopper theft on Instacart. One pkg of cube steaks was missing. This was a very small order too mostly meat. Of course that can't be proved so won't be throwing accusations around but guess I will have to start utilizing friends more.

I had someone steal my bag of coupons once, right out of my cart

Today, Joe Biden said he cut national debt by $1.7 billion. It has reportedly increased by $3.84 trillion, per NYP.

The US national debt is $31.5 trillion. If he cut the debt by $1.7 billion, it’s only 0.0054%..

That’s the same as having $100k debt and saving $5.40..

96 bars? What's the shelf life for bars of soap?

I am currently using Ivory soap that I vacuum sealed between 2002-2006, and it works fine. There are some issues: The paper has stuck to the soap and is hard to remove (the paper has degraded), and some of the soap is discolored orange on some of the corners. It looks a little weird and the soap feels a little harder when you first starting to use it, but have not noticed any ill effects.

Life of the shelf.
When I'm organized (not always), I unwrap stored soap and leave it to dry in the cabinet. The bars last longer when in use.
I'm someone who rubs a bar of soap on my body. Even though I will wet the bar first, I don't like dried out soap bars. Been there, done that.

Although more expensive, I do like liquid soaps much more, and will sometimes use them

I figure till they are gonna be good at least till they are $10 a bar. Which may be before I die, at this rate of inflation. You may see them already (I did) at
$2 a bar.
Actually I screwed up and bought 72 bars from another seller as well. So I said no screw up, I can use it for a trade item. Or give it to people I know are struggling ( one 12 bar package at a time.)

Or the men's mission in Tacoma, It's Dial, and anti-bacterial, a plus with street people. And I use it.

About 20 years ago I bought 72 big 4oz bars of Dial soap ( a case) for $3.75 a case, (free shipping) and bought TWO CASES. It was shopworn boxes, ( old new stock, ) but the soap inside the boxes was NOT "shopworn" .I sent a box of 72 to the mission and handed out the rest to the food bank. I would have bought more but money was so tight back then.

Shrinkflation! I don't use a lot of sugar, so I purchase the "Domino 100 Sugar Packets"

I had finished a box and was opening the new box. The new box had a NEW design. So I was comparing the two boxes side by side, and WHAM! The packets went from 354 grams down to 350 grams each. (12.50 oz to 12.35 oz)

Who would ever know? Sneaky-sneaky.

I buy our soap on Amazon and it comes in a cardboard sleeve and lid of a dozen bars, no wrapping or papers.

I store them as they come down in the storage room.

They work great. I keep 24 bars ahead and never had one issue. We use a bar in about 6-8 weeks. So a sleeve lasts us about a year and a half or more.

Brand is Sappo Hill. We get the fragrance free one. Excellent soap, roughly $3 a bar.

It's OK. Not as good as the likes of Keystone or Yoders, but good enough for quick SOS, or to use as a base for a pot of soup.

It makes an acceptable roast beef sandwich/cracker spread using mayo, plenty of horseradish, and dijon mustard (chopped sweet gerkins or relish if it floats your boat). Coarsely chop or process in the food processor. Can also make quick beef and noodles (use beef gravy mix in the packet w/ the juice from the roast beef to hold the noodles together. Add mushrooms if you have them. Make quick and easy beef stroganoff using the roast beef and slightly thinned out sour cream and caraway seeds and season to taste. It's not gourmet fare, but it lends itself to quick stuff made solely from the pantry.

He’s historically been proven a liar forever. He also was always considered not only dumb, but nasty mean dumb.

IF we had an honest press his butt would have been out the door early on as a senator.

But since the majority of the press is brain dead and immoral to boot, they are just as bad as the rest of the elitist pukes and lie/obfuscate to keep the sheeple bas-baa-baa’ing.

To bad such a large percentage of the people are just as bad.

Judgement is being levied because of the moral deprivation that has grown to almost “in the time of Noe” evil. It will get worse and senile ol’ joe will keep on lying, the press will keep selling the shine-oil, and the leftists cult members will lap it up.

There doesn’t seem to be a thread like this for non-food related inflation, so I thought I’d add my experience today to this thread.

Some idiot deliberately cut the sidewalls to both tires on my wife’s car over night. We do not have a garage to protect our vehicles.

I have a boat tire spare, but this was two totally ruined tires. So, I called AAA to have them send a wrecker, to tow me to a well renown, national tire store.

In total, I bought two new tires - good quality but not their best tire - for a common size tire. Plus, I did get the car aligned, since I happened to be there anyway.

I nearly muddied my Depends when they gave me the bill: $689 for just two mid-quality tires and an alignment! (that does include tax).

BUTT, if I took out one of their credit cards and charged the service to that new card, the cost would be reduced down to $500 !

I really did not want to take out another credit card. I have two already that I don’t use much and pay off every month if I do use them.

But that is almost $200 difference!

I have never heard of such a thing before, Maybe 5% off. Or 10% off, but not near 40% off, just for using their card...

Needless to say, I now have 3 credit cards, and a $500 bill on that third card, that I will make sure to pay off before the grace period is up.

Is there a site you can point to that compares each Presidency's debt and the amount each contributed?

I read something the other day (and now of course can't find it lol) that said it has taken 61 yrs to reach our current debt.

I'd be interested in seeing in that time period how each president stacked up and the reasons for the bloat.

6 packs of bedding plants from Bonnie Plants are $5.99 this year. Bonnie Plants delivers to lots of stores in several states. I think they were $4.65 last year for 6 packs. You can still get plants cheaper at some local nurseries but they will be selling out quick.

Barry, that's AWFUL! Both the tire price and (in my mind, worse) someone wantonly destroying property, apparently for kicks.

A couple of thoughts... do you have comprehensive insurance on your vehicles? It should be covered, although it might be under your deductible amount.

And second, it's getting to the point where everyone ought to have a camera or two covering their property, preferably with a motion alert (that can be turned off in daylight hours... I wonder if they make such a thing?) that gives warning when someone gets too close to vehicles or windows.

I guess we can be thankful it was "only" two tires, and not the catalytic converter!

Thanks, I would like to know more on how each President has contributed. In 1945 we had the war. In 2009 we were coming off a recession, and then pandemic etc. So I can see why the increase from 2009 to present. I'l try searching by President and see what I get.

From the graph for last of 2020 to current looks fairly flat.

2030 to 2050 a big jump.

Yikes!

i start most of my plants using seed and the Park Seed starting system. That is much better, and cheaper, than depending on commercial companies like Bonnie’s or Johnny’s.

But I still end up having to buy a few plants every year. Right now, I know I will be purchasing a 6 pack of cabbage and one of lettuce as soon as this weekend.

Thanks for the warning - I guess I need to rob a bank on my way to the local plant nursery, eh?
