Canned goods wiped out, paper products non-existent, cleaning supplies gone...no disinfectant spray ever!

Ice cream and cookies 80% wiped out.

The spray was my weak area...now I know....we haven't needed anything else, only go when we pick up meds...meds that are doled out and we can't stock up are weak for us too but the critical ones are stocked up.

Per "Next Door" Des Moines area stores getting in shipments of TP (but you need to get there early to snag one). Meat in general is in good supply, but the "good" hams and big turkeys are scarce. Plenty of chicken, lamb, prime rib, steaks, and hamburger.

Rubbing alcohol and peroxide are starting to come in again, supplies limited to one per customer. Still no hand sanitizer or wipes. Paper towels are hit or miss. Most recommend any of the Super Targets. They've been getting full shipments of paper products.

I have not been in the stores lately. If I go, it'll be to one of the smaller Fareways, which has not gone to putting arrows in their aisles to regulate the flow. From what I'm reading, a majority of the shoppers are ignoring the blue arrows on the floor at HyVee and just going directly to what they need. This behavior is resulting in some minor squabbles over space.

No news about what's happening at Walmart, beyond the local scanner squad reporting a fight among a half dozen "People of Walmart" over TP (?) and maybe beer (?) in the parking lot of the south end Walmart. They started throwing cans of beans at each other and damaged several cars before the police broke it up. If you play "guess the race" you'll probably get it right.

This year, I achieved a long-cherished dream. I became a mother, to 18 baby chickens. They’re SO cute!!

I’m building a backyard pen this weekend and the babies are just two weeks old today, so they’re still under the warming lamp in the garage.

Point is, I am told that the local stores have had a run on chicks, and now, they’re out of food.

I did find (and buy) a 40-pound bag elsewhere but Tractor Supply said that they cannot keep up with the feed AND the demand for baby chicks.
That's a lot of chicks, I hope you like eggs.

my SSI comes wensday. so will go early to walmart, gloves and mask, and a .45, just want to replace what I ate, and bump some stuff up if its there,

when the $1200 dollar and more checks hit, I expect the stores to have bigger run, as people who didnt have enough food before will try to stock up. ( I really hope some of them do).

I'm avoiding stores as much as possible so I tried Walmart's pick up service. I was really pleased with the whole experience. I only had 3 substitutions and 2 of those were just for size. I had a lot of cold and frozen items, which were in perfect shape when I got home.

I ordered on Tuesday and picked up on Thurs in the time slot of my choice. There was less than a 10 minute wait for my order to be loaded; I didn't even have to touch anything. I had the option of paying cash when I picked up my order or using a credit card when I placed the order online.

It was free. I will certainly use that service again.

Near Omaha ne, local news ran a story about3 or 4 meat plants shutting down for cleaning.. that was about 5;10 pm, after the news, about 5;30. figured id go to walmart and get another 10 pound roll of hamburger. someone had been there about 5;20, and bought ALL the 5 and 10 pound packages of hamburger, manager said it was over $600.

This too shall pass.
South-central KY, rural and small towns.

Went to Walmart today - needed medications for daughter and picked up a few things since we were there. Easter stuff was 50% off. Huge amounts of stuff left. I don’t recall them having so much stuff left over after any other holiday, ever. Got daughter a stuffed toy that she didn’t need, but it made her really happy, so what can you do?

Had lots of tp. I thought about getting some, but we still have plenty. There were shortages here and there in the food aisles, but the biggest shortage was in the meat section. Lots of empty spaces. I didn’t check prices, because we didn’t need any.

Went to a different feed store than the usual Tractor Supply, and he didn’t seem to have any shortages. His prices are a little better, and he loads the fifty pound bags for you. I’ll be shopping there more often.

I’m amazed the manager allowed it!

I was at Aldi's today, a fairly small one. Fruits and veggies were low, no flour, no eggs, frozen food was just about wiped out, no paper goods, hardly any cleaning supplies, dairy getting low (cheeses, etc.-plenty of milk), some meat, good array of bread and canned goods. Prices were holding steady and the meat I got was at a good price for our area. It was busy there today, about 3pm on a Monday. Had to wait in line to get in. Only 19 allowed in store at a time.

FL -- Had to go to CVS for a couple prescriptions; they were out of all paper products and still no rubbing alcohol. Then went to grocery store -- only needed a few things. They were out of TP but I didn't need any. No hand sanitizer or hand soap in the pump bottles. Got some nice new Dole pomegranate salad on sale -- it comes with dressing, cranberries infused with pomegranate, and toasted sesame seeds -- it's really tasty. Kind of like a slaw but not acidic. Some people were wearing masks, but not many. Passed on the vast array of sweets, and got out of there.

For the most part, stores are getting pretty well stocked again here (Norcal). A few items are still hard to find unless you hit the store at the right time but they can be found.

I think this is leading to a false sense of security for most folks.

Personally, I am slowing loading up on canned soups (with meat). These will be gold in the near future.

I have mainly been shopping at the more expensive grocery chain(s) as there is hardly no one there and better stocked without having to wait in morning lines.

Saved, to glorify God.
They are price gouging on ANYTHING with rubbing alcohol in it.
the normal box of tiny alcohol prep pads (100) that Diabetics use before giving themselves a shot, was 1.00 in the dollar store and $1.60-2.50 in drug stores. Now online they are selling for $5-6.
Chewable Vitamin C that cost $6 -$7 before is $18-$22 now
ZINC LOZENGES (or zinc in any form) are almost unobtainable and where once you could buy them for $4.99 they go as high as asking $34.99
I have seen a pint (16oz) of 70% rubbing alchohol($1.60)reg advertised for $16 and a quart $2.60-$3 )reg for over $20

After eating out of our pantry for 5 weeks, I wanted to try and restock some food items that we have eaten. Not that I was out, but I don't want my pantry to get low on items we eat often. I went to our local Dollar General near Amory, MS.. It was fully stocked with everything, except canned veggies and soups. I still managed to pick up cans of cream of chicken soup. I bought the last 4 cans on the shelf. Everything on my list, they had in stock, so, I feel blessed. I am almost out of potatoes and onions, but I didn't want to take a chance of going into town to Walmart just yet. I'll have to rely on my canned potatoes and Betty Crocker boxed potatoes for now. Lots of rice and pasta, too. Dollar General doesn't carry potatoes and onions.

We wore our masks and gloves, and to our surprise, the two other women in the store shopping wore theirs, too. We also practiced the 6 ft. social distancing. The store had tape on the floors for everyone to follow.

Maybe, in two weeks, I'll feel better about going shopping at Walmart. Sam's is still out of the question for the foreseeable future.

We have found with a pantry getting it stocked correctly is just the first step. The second is rotating. Third eating out of it. Yet what had escaped me until the virus was the topping off on a weekly or bi-weekly basis.

Yep, we stocked our pantry with at least a years supply of food first. Then as we ate out of it, it got rotated on a regular basis. In normal times, we would restock every two weeks so as not to let what we have stored get low. We haven't been able to do that, lately, so I was anxious to get some things restocked after 5 weeks. Another thing I've learned eating solely out of our pantry, is that some food items were used more frequently than others. These are now the items I plan to stock more of, and less of some other food items. I'm seeing this situation as a valuable learning experience, at least for us.

Same for us. The snickers bars lasted a lot longer than expected. Chili not so much....

We also discovered alternatives to things that we had thought were horrible, but in hindsight are not too bad.

I am finding price increases on a lot of different items online. The latest was on some tuna from Oregon from a cannery I buy from several times a year.
Chewy Has Purina cat chow back in stock after everyone being out of it.
I tried to send some soup to a friend and everyone is out of that Campbells Chunky Soup except for price gougers on ebay.

I have this ominous feeling that we havn't seen the worse of this food and supply thing yet.

Price increases were a big concern for me, yesterday. They weren't too bad, considering that prices will continue to rise. I say, "get it while you can regardless of the price". It may get priced out of range, or completely not available in the future.

Picked up a big bottle of Kirkland brand Vodka at Costco. It's only 40% alcohol but it's better than nothing and will have to do.

I can understand your feelings on this. But understand the following:

The US government / World is doubling and then doubling a couple of times more the money supply. If the populace of the world begins to understand this, coupled with the current shortage of goods, money will become worthless in a New York minute. No one will sell you anything until a "new" currency comes to light, (gold / silver / and things we should not discuss).

The money has just begun to flow. 150 million adults are about to get checks that will average $1200 per adult and as we have 150 million dependents, $500 more for them. That will be $255 billion dollars in the market in a very short period of time. What is there to buy now / today? Not a heck of a lot....

Prices will just rise even more. Then how will people react?

50/50 we have riots and lots of dead people in the streets very quickly....

So get what you can while you can and try and be comfortable with it.

Space coast, Florida. Winn Dixie was a joy today, now people are cleaning the shelves of food worse than when this mess started. Still no paper towels, napkins, tissues, and of course toilet tissue. I really wish people would chill with this panic buying. It makes it hard on some folks who are unable to stock up due to lack of room and/or lack of money, etc. Damned inconsiderate.

I've managed to stay indoors for eight to nine days at a time the last couple of months.

Guess what? Being retired and with breathing issues, that has been my normal routine the last few years. No great acclimation process here at the bunker, LOL.

That is my story but I can understand how much of a problem this is for people who have children and who used to lead active lifestyles. I wish I had some sage advice but I don't.

Ventured out today, at around noon, to the local mega-mart to replenish the liquor cabinet.

Managed to snag a handicapped parking spot without waiting. Deployed my mask and wiped down an electric scooter before I sped off to secure adult beverages. More good luck, no waiting at the liquor department checkout!

I debated grabbing some groceries but decided not to after seeing the single checkout line last week.

Using online delivery from Aldi has worked out very well for me now and over the last few years. The local mega-grocery has suspended online delivery and grocery pick-up because they have been historically low on staff and they seem to be a bunch of certified idiots. See my earlier posts in this regard.

There are a couple of nice supermarkets in our small town of Poplarville, MS, but of late I've been making prep runs to the local Dollar General store. The DG has a good grocery selection and even carries fresh produce. They have a "seniors shopping hour" between 7 and 8 a.m. and are much less crowded than the supermarkets. We don't really need anything, but we like to rotate preps and also appreciate fresh milk/produce. I was last there two weeks ago and went again this morning. I saw more holes in their stock than I saw on my last visit. BTW, both times I've been there for senior's hour, all of the older folks were only carrying the little DG hand-carried baskets and just buying a few items. I've spend around $150 on each trip and overfilled a full-sized shopping cart on each occasion. I'm an "older folk" too, but insist on seeing myself as a 25 YO trapped in a 63 YO body.

The obvious holes in the DG inventory, combined with the news of meat packing plants closing and farmers plowing under crops leads me to believe that we are going to see serious food shortages going forward, as well as an inevitable rise in food prices (which could be very substantial). Though we already have large food preps, we've decided to double down on them. Additionally, DW and I have been working on the gardens.

Lastly - if you have the ability to do it safely - I'd recommend that all of you use the current low fuel prices to stock up on diesel and gasoline. These low prices aren't going to last forever.

Not groceries, but you need to know.

Last night my son comes and tells me he is in shock because he was pricing new keyboards and mouses on the internet. He said the prices have already shot up A LOT. If you need these things or other electronic gear, better get it now because it's only going to get worse. He asked me why and I said probably China isn't shipping stuff at the moment. Hmmm..........

Just curious... why do you assume it’s panic buying and not a disruption in our supply chain? Remember, a lot of families in the past went out to eat or bought fast food, and now they’re staying at home so they’re buying more groceries. It could be that there just isn’t much left.

We are still able to eat here in Vero Beach (Indian River County Florida). Canned goods are gone from Publix stores. If you want black beans forget it. There were some red beans. Not much else in terms of canned goods. Plenty of spaghetti and pizza sauce. Chicken is returning. No paper products. Plenty of eggs. Lots of produce. Getting back to normal to some degree.

A lot of the stores on the coasts have no fresh fruits or vegetables right now, all the while produce farmers are letting fruits and vegetables rot in the fields because they no longer have schools, hotels, or restaurants to sell to, someone said it was due to contract issues... so millions will go hungry because of a contract that can no longer be honored.
WHERE IS THIS STORE.............."A lot of the stores on the coasts have no fresh fruits or vegetables right now".....
HAVE YOU been to all of these stores

or is it a statement pulled out of thin air

There is a ton of fresh fruits and vegetables here on the east coast of Florida. We have been eating a nice variety every day. Sam's Club was briefly out of Romaine lettuce but they had lots of Iceberg.

This is the 60-90 gap we were talking about in Feb. For the next few months, anything overseas is going to be super expensive. You must decide if you really want it or not.

I'm predicting that with the stimulus checks coming out and with the covid shutdowns of meat processing plants, this thread is about to heat up.

Tough times ahead, my friends. I'm going out today primarily for fresh vegetables. Not sure what I'll see, but I'm choosing a supermarket off the beaten path. I'll add a post later if I see anything worth noting.

The risk/reward equation keeps changing. Without an N-95, I don't think I'd risk shopping in central PA at this point. I'm thinking a run now to beat the stimulus-infused hordes may be worth the risk of going out. I'll cheer myself with the remark I made when my kids were young and they were scared waiting in line to ride the roller coaster:

"The worst that can happen is we die."
