Some grocery stores in Charlotte, NC are opening their stores for those 60 and over from 6 to 9 a.m. It was great, just a few older people in each store, with everyone else that was younger, sitting in their cars. I went to two stores that I have never been to, a large Latino grocery and one in the "hood". These stores were stocked more than the big name stores, I was shocked. For the first time in 3 weeks, I was able to get eggs, vegetables, bread and chicken stock for me and my elderly neighbors, who are in their 90's and have no business going anywhere. I didn't bother with the meat aisle, they've raised the prices too much - I'd rather make meals with beans, rice and veggies.

The Mexican markets around me are much better. They truck their own produce and eggs and such direct from the ranches and have a better stock of items so Im told. We are not leaving the property and not to be cold blooded but I am calling in markers right about now and have people doing things for me.

Our stores have been bare, stripped clean, thankfully I did a HUGE top off run back in Feb when I saw this getting worse.. before the panic buying began, our freezers are full and my other store room is topped off with things we will use until it gets back to normal (if it ever does) but the main store room is full of food and preps so we are good. Its amazing to see a store fully stocked at 8 AM and stripped clean by 2 PM.. I never want to hear from the locals here that they are broke and have no money because somehow they come up with money to strip the shelves daily. We have 3 grocery stores, countless dollar stores and smaller places that sell food and supplies. Our sheriffs dept have been stationed at our local grocery stores but its very low key, heck one of them was helping bag groceries the other day in our Smith's So far no fights or trouble, but the locals are getting ticked off and its only a matter of time.

On an unrelated note, about 1 and 1/2 years ago I did a video on YouTube on common items preppers should store, basic stuff like food, water, masks, TP, baby wipes.. now people are posting "How did he know" and "He must be a psychic" meanwhile its just common stuff us preppers buy a little at a time during normal times and put back. Some accucsed me of "hoarding" until I pointed out the date of the video.. then it was like "wow.. oops, sorry."

At this point we have decided that if we need something we do without. We stocked up heavily back before the panic buying started .
The very reason to stock up was to avoid the panic buying, exposure to the virus. Daily runs to the store are out till this runs its coarse.

That is what we have decided too. Emptied the milk jug today, and the last banana is gone. But we will survive :) Figure this will be practice for the real apocalypse. The one where you can't order stuff from Amazon.

I'm really amazed to see folks here on the forum still having to go out and about scavenging for things to stock. I guess I had misconceptions about TB being a "prepper" forum. It is understandable, though, that everyone wanted to go out, and top off everything. We did, but are on lock down now, till this is over. We will make do, or do without.

Friends went to senior hours this morning at Stater Bros. Found me eggs, bread, store brand orange juice, lettuce and tomato. No milk or lunch meat and regular meat was stripped bare. They did get me 1 lb of ham sliced off the bone so will have ham sandwitches and will give another friend some of it. This is some scary shite.
And requests are finally starting to come in from friends. Besties asked me today if I have mask and gloves. Yes to them no to everybody else.

Most here are prepped but the way it’s going, this could be for much longer than we’ve prepped for. I see a new normal of still poking our heads out every week or so to see what’s available.

Oh I'm prepped alright but I'm not dipping into the super pails quite yet or the mountain house. Waiting to see just how bad this gets.

I went up to the friend's farm to do pony check again this morning (and left the rest of the substitute farm help a generous supply of eggs...TAKE THEM PLEASE!) :)

Got a chance to scope out the state of the area north of town. The four corner grocery looked sane...only 15-20 cars in the lot, and less when I came back through later. One truck unloading at the dock. Gas station and gunz and bait shop...the usual number of guys there with their 4-wheeler and snowmobile trailers hooked and hauling to the trails and lakes. If the boyz can't work, they are gonna fish, and they can still fish inland lake trout (N. MN) until the end of March.

Traffic volume on the county roads was actually normal, which tells me a lot of people are blowing this whole thing off. That does not bode well far as I can see. Gonna lead to more serious clamp-downs. The worst is far from over...gonna escalate over the next few weeks at least, until anybody see's a light at the end of this tunnel.

Utilize available supplies before diving into preps.

You just have to mitigate the exposure.

I see the LDS online food center is out of everything.

Yep, there is now a new banner notification on the website:

"Due to increased demand for home storage items, these items are out of stock and temporarily unavailable. These items will be available to order in the future when additional inventory is in stock."

For a while they were saying they were accepting and filling orders as soon as possible despite items showing out of stock. Clearly, this is a change.

My order of their powdered milk and flour should have shipped around the 18th since I was billed on that date (from an earlier order)...fingers crossed it arrives safely. I know they are simply swamped just trying to serve their members. It is truly kind that they also try to do so much for people in general, members or not.

Most won't care when you did it, but rather that you did it and have it available for them to take.

We have been in isolation for 2+ weeks but we are still getting deliveries from online orders. Silly not to get deliveries because you do not need to leave your house until the driver leaves. Then I just use a 2-wheel cart to put the boxes into the garage and often never even touch them. I just leave the boxes in the garage for several days before I even look inside them.
We have plenty but never enough.

Yeah. So are we. Just received two deliveries today. We are shopping online so we won't have to go out and about. It's just for items that we'd like to have, but not essential.

This too shall pass.
Sitting in the waiting room, waiting for DD to see her doctor about all the stuff that went on last week. I had hoped to be home to stay by the first of last week....Best-laid plans and all that. Going to need to pick up some more cranberry juice at Walmart when we are done here. Had picked up a couple of bottles when we were topping off a few weeks ago, but DD is going to need to have some regularly for a while. Hadn’t planned on that.

can she do the cranberry supplements? Brand name is AZO in the pharmacy. Another idea is go over where the raisins are and grab some Craisins (sp?) cranberry raisins to have on hand. if your daughter doesnt like them you can always put them in a hot cup of tea and steep them a little to get the goodies out. Cranberry flavord tea! Get good vits and also a helping hand with the urinary tract. its a two'fer

1984 is not fiction.
We just got back from Winn Dixie. I needed some fresh produce, which they had. There were only two five pound bags of potatoes. There was no meat, butter, bacon, frozen potatoes, and naturally no paper products except paper plates. They did have my TastyKakes. I talked to the young girl bagging our groceries and she said it is surreal working in an almost empty store.
I believe Packy was correct a few posts back when she said they could be diverting trucks to larger cities to avoid riots.

I don't know if it's to avoid riots, but the meat manager at our local smallish mountain town Kroger told me she's been limited to only ordering 90 pounds of meat at a time. I guess the bigger stores in the city 20 miles away are getting more of whatever is available.

I went to my optometrist to order new lenses today. Afterward, I went over to H-E-B. I was going to cruise around inside the store to see what was unavailable. As I went to the doors at about 4 pm, I saw there was about a 100’ line to get in. Only a few people at a time were allowed in. I had the pups in the car, so after chatting with the door attendant for a few minutes, I left.

She was well aware of the fact that the supply chain was nearly depleted, and that once that happened, it would take weeks to months to restock depending on the item. She was also well aware of how ugly it will get once that happens.

ETA: Sorry, this is about the LDS online store -

I just learned that they were so swamped by orders they could not fulfill, most have been cancelled. Some that got in earlier/made it further along the 'pipeline' may be fulfilled, or cancelled. Right now I don't know if we'll be receiving our order. They'll send an email when our order either ships or is cancelled.

I've been wondering how I can conceal the smell of cooking food.

Thanks, Dennis. Just wow.

I wish now I had ordered a lot more seed potatoes than I did. Gotta get our garden finished and planted.

Wally World in Mountain Home, AR tonight - produce and cheeses filling places where meat normally goes. Little beef. No chicken. Much of frozen food gone. Few cans soup. 3 cans of turkey spam. Few jars pb. No tp. I really believe they are not getting their usual supplies and are trying to fill holes. Call went over intercom for people to unload fresh food and general merchandise truck. Their are some shiny new metal additions (turnstile looking) in both entrances.
Some stores in area taking only cash. Some taking only cards.
