Ran to a local grocery store and Meijer's Thursday night. Couldn't find any tea in tea bags except for decaf. There were four small packages of brown sugar the rest of the shelf was empty. Sign said limit two due to lack of availability. No liquid hand soap. No Lysol or Clorox disinfectant wipes. Odd, the only oatmeal in packets on the shef were Quaker. No store brands.

Was just doing a quick run to get three things for DS. Noting a few items as I ran did the run through.

For coffee fans with a Sams Club membership, they have among the best on-line prices that I am seeing anywhere. I've purchased nearly 30 Lbs. of various brands, including StarBucks, Caribou, Seattle's Best and Peets' in the past 2 weeks. Shipping is free. Stock levels seem good (I've found and received everything I was looking for).

I'm convinced that we are in the eye of the hurricane and it's best to stock-up while we can.

I mentioned to my mom, who lives in IA, about my problems finding powdered Cascade. Stores in her area are running out as well. Anybody else notice this in their AO?

We went to Costco on Friday, no toilet paper again. We buy a 36 to 48 pack every other month. Nope didn't happen.

We made an early morning trip to Cardenas market a privately owned Mexican market. They seemed to be well stocked especially their produce which us what we made the trip for. A giant watermelon, tomatoes, lettuce and 2 bags of russets all for 11 bucks. They buy direct from the farms.

Our trip to Rite Aid didn't go as well. DH's prescription wasn't ready and they had no ice cream at all.
I came home and finished my cooking and sat down and ordered cases of beans, maple syrup, ketchup and maple sugar. According to Dennis this may be hoarding but as generosity to others maybe my one good trait I am not going to worry about it.

I give up.
You know, I've had dishwashers a few times in my life. Very rarely used them, mostly because they took too long and were too loud. We have one in this apt that we haven't used even once since we've been here. It just seems to me that 5 or 10 minutes spent doing dishes for 2 people doesn't justify the annoyingness of a dish washer. What I'd RATHER have in the apt is a stackable washer/dryer like my friend has. She pays a lot more rent though. I don't like humping laundry over to the laundry rooms here. Blech.

Maple sugar? What is this delightful sounding goody?

I didn't know where to put this but it is kind of a shortage. Screwed up anyway. To do with our new reality.
We have had a P.O. box for 20 years and almost always go to the other side of town on a Sunday morning early to avoid the traffic and now because it is safer with less people about. For all those years the lobby has been open 24 hrs a day.
Today we get there and it is locked. Went around back and asked an employee reason and he said due to Vandalism.
They gave us no notice or anything about the new hours and there was nothing posted on the door. This after paying 360 bucks for the privilege. And yeah this is a big deal to me because now we have to go to a place with limited parking with a million people around and the streets busy.

I have had a brand new canner in my preps since 2007. I cant remember what kind but I think I got it at Lehmans. I got my grain grinder at Pleasant Hill back then also. Anyway I would have to have DH get it out as I cant do it. probably an expensive one as I bought the good stuff usually. I never got around to canning anything as our gardens fizzled out due to hotter weather and myself getting ill. I would love to gift this to someone younger that is homesteading and with a family. I wouldn't know how to go about choosing someone fairly so if any of you have any ideas let me know. I would imagine shipping would be expensive have to go UPS or Fed Ex and they are out of site but still a lot cheaper than a new canner.

Lehman's has a good selection of all American pressure canners in stock.
Expensive but generational canners.
Also, take a look on ebay. I got a heck of a deal last fall on a (barely) used, same model 50 YO Mirro that I'm used to using. A warped doggone lid finally got the better of me on Mom's old one...but I loved the size and the safety features.
Happy canner here. Set for another 50 years. :)

NEGATIVE! They have them listed on their website, but each description includes a note stating: "Our ____ Pressure Canner is OUT OF STOCK, but we have ordered more! You are still able to purchase it now and we will ship it to you as soon as it arrives." They've been out of stock for some time now. And GOOD LUCK on Ebay too.

I just checked shopgoodwill for pressure canners. There are a bunch listed as pressure cookers that I think are really pressure canners,, and the prices are amazing. Didn't look to see what the shipping would be.

There's a nice All American 921 closing tonight. High bid is 126 right now. New is 279, with a 6 to 10 month wait.

It's kind of surprising to me that no one has commented on my offer of a brand new canner for the cost of shipping.
A local mennonite bakery has a lot of young women working there...I'm sure one of them would love it if no tb family takes you up on your offer. I'm not young, already have one, and none of our kids/families want to can. It is a very kind offer.

Not food related but other items I noticed while shopping at target yesterday, that were missing or very in short supply were; power strips, night lights, and legos.

I started buying Christmas presents for my boys already just in case these types of shortages continue. Christmas with no legos would be travesty in our house!

Legos are made from plastic, and there's a plastic shortage due to a shortage in the polymer that is used to make plastic.

Add jigsaw puzzles to this list. I check Walmart whenever I'm there. They got a shipment about a week ago, and only 3 were left on the next visit. I talked several of the seniors into forming a "puzzle exchange" -- they leave finished puzzles outside for a few hours and then re-box them and trade. These are the cheaper cardboard puzzles, not the expensive ones that are 3,000 pieces or only have a single color.

(Note: I don't do puzzles. I'm the "shopper" and problem-solver)

I've been buying Christmas presents for our three grandkids, too. Two of them LOVE Legos, but they've been getting kits for years, so they have lot of legos. I bought them each a Lego book that has lots of different stuff they can make with their Legos, like spacecraft, dinosaurs, etc. Step by step directions and will last them awhile.

I told my dh that I believe firmly that the economy is going to crap just before or after the elections, and that our two kids probably won't have much money then to buy their kids Christmas presents. So I am going to make sure the grands get some gifts for this Christmas when they won't understand what's going on yet. By Christmas, they'll know and be fully living it. Then they will be happy (I hope) with fewer gifts and more homemade ones.

You may want to PM Old as Dirt. She has many puzzles she may want to sell or give away.

Ok it's an All American # 910 pressure canner. Retails for 239.00 on their website and says it wont ship until Oct.
Now I just dont know how to fairly pick someone that needs it. Dont wish to hurt antibody's feelings.

Of note, the big Walmart by me had ZERO bicycles. I am guessing it is the China supply chain.

Yes my son in law has his kids for 5 weeks this summer. They recently purchased themselves 2 new bikes after searching. His kids are here and the son's bike is messed up. They went to buy him a new one and none. So they are having it repaired to cost more than a new bike.

Made a trip to Brainerd, MN last Friday. Hit Menards and Costco. Menards had a good selection of treated lumber, my local lumber yard was about out and said he was having trouble getting it.

I haven't been to Costco since March. It seemed pretty well stocked, no gaping holes that I noticed. They only had Kirkland and Charmin toilet paper, limit one. Good selection of meat with some limits. Bought some New York strip steaks for $9 a lb., and they were tasty. They added to their rice and pasta selection, but a limit of one. I picked up a ten pound box of spaghetti noodles.

I'm not surprised this happened, there's also a shortage of skateboards, back yard games like volleyball nets and the actual volleyballs, swimming pools, etc., I hear tack sales are at an all-time high right now as are private riding lessons.
